Visuals
Agent J asked what I thought of this picture. Well, I think they got the face fairly close, I don't remember my hair ever being like that but I'll take it cause I loved Depp's portrayal of Willy Wonka and it has kind of a new Wonka vibe. I know it is supposed to be a dig at me but what can you do? You can't make everyone happy all the time. I'll just be flattered that an artist somewhere took the time to sit down and focus on his interpretation of me, although I am certain that wasn't his intention.
I have always been a Chocolate Factory purist. I've seen the original like 100 times and I have always been a fan of Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka. Having said that, I loved the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I saw it the other night after the taping and was very pleasantly surprised with how well it was cast. Johnny Depp is for sure a creepier Wonka, but he is so damn good, I forgot about my original perception of the character. It felt like a new film all together. All the kids were amazing in their roles and I must say that this film's Charlie and Grandpa are much more likable than the originals. I suppose that instead of comparing, it's just nice to know that now we have both versions. My only complaint is that the boat ride wasn't f@#ked up enough. The original boat ride was so twisted. I wanted Burton to take it even further. Nevertheless, the film is just awesome.
I also recently finished watching Project Greenlight Season 2. The series is a lot better than the movie they made (The Battle of Shaker Hights), however, the film's star, Shia LaBeouf is really an incredible young actor. I really enjoyed watching him in the series and in the film and I expect great things will come for him. Thanx for all the DVD season suggestions. I plan to get into Carnivale right after I do season 1 of Monk.

you know, i thought the same thing about the boatride.
i was waiting for a fucked up monster filled acid trip and all we got was an image of the boat going over some bumps before stopping. boring.

if it hasn't been suggested yet, make sure in your box-set watching, youinclude entourage. Damn funny for anyone in the entertainment industry.

Thanks for your Charlie review Dave...been looking forward to it! I must admit...I'm with you...I was looking for a chicken with it's head cut off or worse during Burton's boat ride...oh well, maybe he thought it was too predictable.
Have a great day!

Hey Dave, no worries, I'm sure any 67er would give their right arm for an authentic, limited edition Mr. Navarro marionette. Actually looks rather Shakespearean if you ask me, but that's how my brain is wired..
I totally agree, the new C&tCF was a completely different film altogether, cheers to Burton for doing so. And talk about Depp's creepy "MJ-inspired" Wonka...wow.
Caught a late-night re-run of your first win on Celebrity Poker last night, always good to see you again in all your glory, especially sitting next to my childhood fantasy, Ms. Jennie Garth.
On that note, enjoy life!

Afternoon, Dave. I'm either seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tomorrow or Friday. I'm looking forward to it. The boat ride in the original is one of my favourite bits - so fucked up and psychedelic! Crazy that was. i read the other day, that they only got one dwarf actor in to be an Oompah Loompa and copied him on a computer. Whereas in the original they got a whole load of little people to be them. oh well, technology!

Anyone want to predict who will win ROCKSTAR - INXS? I think that it will be one of 2, well 3. If its a girl, it will be Jordis. But I feel it will be a male. My predictions are: MIG or Ty.
Anyone else?

Hi Dave and All,
I own the Video Willy Wonka, bet I have seen it more then 100, it's up there with Rocky Horror Picture show in movie I have seen the most.
I was told the new version is a bit darker but to wait until it comes out on DVD. I figured I would wait, I will probably want to watch it more then once.
The first episode of Monk was great. I hope you enjoy it. I will shut up, It was one of the best.
I haven't gotten your book yet, lack of time, so maybe it's in the book so this is redundant...When was the first time you ever performed on a stage. How did you feel? I was wondering if it is something that came easy for you, or if it took time to become comfortable? I figure, no answer means read the damn book. No details all, I have been avoiding comments about it.
I am looking forward to tonights show, I think we are all hoping you get up on the stage soon. I think it is good to see INXS get up there, see how everyone looks up there together. Get them use to performing with them. The more you all do so, the better, or more exciting. Nothing like live (recorded live) performances.
Rock on All,
Stardreme

Just had to chime in once more today.. Peg-TX: I'm with you, completely agree, at least I hope those are the results.. though they've all got talent and great potential. And Dave, I second Brandon's rec. of "Sideways." If you haven't caught it yet, you must! Funny as s#!%, would be a great movie you and Carmen would enjoy seeing together, I'd bet.
cheers,
Justin

I KNEW you would make that cartoon your pic!!! I think it deserves to be an avatar for a day or so....great segueway into your Charlie review!~!
But what about the photo booth craze? Please comment, if you will, as to where yours ended up, is it the one that is being used at Lucky Strike?, it sure looks like the one that Ratner fellow was showing off on Sunday Morning(TV show).
I was reading some posts from last year, I can't believe it's been a year since I discovered this site, (I know, for some of you, it seems like an ETERNITY!!) I encourage ALL newcomers to take a stroll down the archival memery lane, Dave sure did answer a lot of questions back then, and he did say he doesn't like answering the same one twice, I was surprised by how open he was in the month of August.

Dave,
When I was younger I watched and watched and watched "willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" The one thing that bothered me about that movie was the umpa loompas they used to scare me to death and they kind of still do. I want to go see the new version with Johnny Depp but I've been kinda nervous it won't do the original justice. Maybe I'll see with my friends on my sweet 16
I just also want to say that I respect what you do very much and you seem like a very down to earth guy . Music plays a big role in my life. I turn 16 on the 12th of this month and my parents say I can have a tattoo something I've wanted for a long time but I wanted to ask you how much it hurts You've been a huge insparation for me in my life to be myself no matter what anyone thinks
Thank you for the insparation you and your music have given me Please help me on the tattoo question cause i'm really nervous

i have a box set suggestion: Invader Zim
they only made one season, but the animation is great and it comes from the twisted mind of Jhonen Vasquez (Johhny the Homicidal Maniac, Squee). it's a bit weird, but it can be a fun break from some of the more serious box sets.

The BBC version of "The Office" is much better. Mike pegged that one. I have a friend that works at the BBC so she got another friend Ricky's autograph. Every once in a while I do nice things for friends. It is the best version to watch though. I am waiting for the new Nip/Tuck. The final show last season made me go smoke. I was tore up on the edge of my seat. You all have some great taste here. I feel like a step-child, so I just ordered the book so I can stop asking stupid questions. I do hope it's called "Don't try this at home"! I don't shop any more then I have to. I know so little about performers. I have loved Pink Floyd for 30 years and didn't know what they looked like until Live8...so laugh at me!!

Dave,
Here are 2 of my favorite DAVE lines tonight:
1)Telling DEANNA about how she kept it together while seeing her sister. Classic!
2)Critiquing the "scary conductor moves" that MARTY does. Hilarious!
Sorry but I didn't like TY's performance that much. It wasn't a good song for him to sing. I think that I am in the minority regarding this.
Voted for MIG, MARTY, DEANNA, JORDIS, JD, SUZIE, JESSICA
Didn't vote for: TY, BRANDON, TARA

Well, no matter who does or doesn't like JD, he seems to come back after it seems like he's fallen. I admit, I was impressed by his performance tonight. Mig and Jordis were great as well. And I think Marty treated that damn Creed song with much justice (agreed, perhaps more than even Stapp).
And, now, for my television suggestion: Wonder Showzen. It airs from time to time on Mtv2. Laugh if you want, but it's an incredibly fucked up show that's good for a twisted giggle.

Hey Mike in NYC....I agree about TY's song, but he had never heard it before...so considering that....He did well. Last week I found it easy to vote, it was harder this time. I listened to Jordis's performance again, cried just as much. Powerful!
I think of it as everyone has an "off" day, last week it seemed to be everyone's off day. I sat here wishing I could have seen it live tonight.

One word…….JORDIS!!!! We really hope she gets the break she deserves. Her version tonight of Bowie had all of us in tears. She is the real shit and was just awesome and has been all along. If the guys could possibly see a woman singer doing Michael’s songs…she’s it! Mig is also great and from their motherland if they were to pick him it would make sense and he is great. Jordis or Mig …… Just two cents from Seattle………we love INXS and you Dave.......

Dave---the master
OK, well my husband and I just finished watching the show and his comment was that listening to Tara and Suzie tonight made him want to beat the shit out of someone. I have to say that they both were unimpressive to say the least. We voted for Mig and Marty -- they both were great, JD was good too and in my opinion, any one of them has what it takes to be the front man for INXS -- the looks, the sound etc. We love Jordis, but can't really see her with INXS. She has a HUGE future ahead of her though.
Dave, we are doing our basement in Rock and Roll decor and are trying to collect something from all of the greats (of which you are definately one) -- do you have an autographed pic or something for me? ;) You are such a cool guy to your fans (or should I say followers) I thought that I may as well ask :)
Looked HOT as usual!!! Get up there and play with the band would you!?!?! Like I said before on a previous post -- the fans want what they want and they want YOU!!!
Can't wait til tomorrow night!!!

Thanks for the input everyone! I have now decided that TY is out. I'm thinking MIG or JORDIS. Dave, great show as always. American Idol should take notes. That show irritates me so much. Rockstar is so classy. Thanks for not turning the greatest music on the earth into a circus. ~Peg-TX

Willy Wonka (the new movie) is way great !
good for young kids, parents, stoners, everyone...
Just started watching Chriss Angel . MINDFREAK on A&E.
WHAT THE FUK is with that guy???
Also getting a few laughs from the stupid silly Pauly Shore, Minding the Store.
How much reality TV can we handle?

MiG is the next lead singer for INXS.

Well, Mr. Navarro... what can I say... I hope the exposure you are getting on INXS will open more doors for you - in the pathetic world of network TV, you sir, are a shining star, a true natural - way gorgeous too - Ms. Carmen is a very lucky woman.
Still watching in Tucson - love 6767.com!

dave, i have maybe a stupid question - i noticed on the show that there are oriental rugs on the stage. i have also seen oriental rugs on the stage at many different bands shows - it seems so common that i wondered if there was a practical reason for it - is there? thanks!

Shia LaBeouf is the BOMB!!! I was hooked on Greenlight that year...whatever year it was. It took me a while to actually get to see the movie tho. I saw it on HBO, I think just recently. Anyhow, I think Shia should be a huger star than he is now. He is just amazing. I actually saw holes b/c of him, otherwise I would have avoided that movie.
Hey... props to tonight's comments on Rockstar. OH MY, Jordis kicked so much arse!! She is friggin amazing. If they don't pick her (who knows maybe her vibe isn't correct for the band, even tho she seems cool has all get out), I hope some one somewhere picks her up and exposes her to the world. I know I'd pay to see her on stage!
awesome!

You seem like such a likable guy. I was wondering, what kind of music do you and your wife listen to when you're at home? Any particular groups, or singers? My favorite group is Journey (the album I'm liking right now is "Arrival"), favorite guitarist is Clapton, and favorite singer is either Janis Joplin or Etta James. What book or magazines are you reading now? I'm very curious, as you seem to be quite the rennaissance man.

Thanks for the review, Dave, what do you think a 9 year old would think of it - one who used to scream everytime an Oompa Loompa came on the screen in the first one?
Tonights elimination. . . I know who I would like to see in the bottom three, but I am hoping it is a female going home . . .
I hope to be home from work in time to see the results (I did get to text message a few votes last night). I hope you are up to whoever has to leave!
Always,
me
