The Rain
I had a very rare night out on the town last night. First, I took the kids to Rokbar and we had an amazing time. Billy and his wife joined us and we just chilled, told stories and laughed a lot with the remaining 8. After all this time hanging around the house and the show, guess who is turning out to have a really cool personality? Jessica! I suggested that she interject that side of her into her performances. Simple but straight. The show and the house tend to be a little more "work" oriented for them and I would imagine somewhat stressful to a degree, last night was nothing but a good time hanging out. No critiques, no clinics, no song choices and NO CAMERAS. (Plus, I don't think the open bar tab hurt anything.) Marty stayed back home to work on music. This week INXS assigned the songs they are to perform and I think Marty was handed a real mindf@#k. Wait till you see this! I personally can't wait. After Rokbar, Riss and I headed over to another spot to hang out with Daphna Dove and her friend. We shared a meal and caught up. It was great to see her. Someone asked me once, "Who from the show do you see yourself being friends with?" Since Daphna is no longer on it, I can tell you she is for sure a friend. She is a really deep and special girl. As for the rest, I must remain publicly silent about that until it is over or until they go home. I'm sure it isn't too hard to figure out.
It looks like it might rain here! I love the rain. (Woody Allen’s character in Play It Again Sam: “I love the rain – it washes memories off the sidewalks of life!) Carmen went to Toronto for a final week of shooting. I'm glad she is gonna be done soon, although I have bad news for her. She caught a scorpion last week and kept it as a pet. She named it, Scorpy. Well, the thing is, it doesn't look like Scorpy is doing so well right now. I haven't seen him move in a few days. Poor Scorpy. I believe he has moved on into the light. You know how when you do a Google search, sometimes your past searches come up? Well, yesterday I was searching something and an old search came up that Carmen had done while I was out. It was a search for "food for scorpions". So damn cute! It nearly broke my heart!

woah, hold up D-dogg, don't dish out the bad news to Carmen just yet!
My first job was at an aquarium store that sold scorpions and I can't tell you how many times I thought the things were dead.
Scorpions are nocturnal and you're really not going to see it move around that much at all unless you're up all night. They barely need any food at all- maybe one or two crickets every four or five days. Does it have a place to hide under? Is the tank heated? If not try getting a heatmat so it's kept at 80 degrees.
Also, too much handling isn't good for it, it can stress it out.
Dude somebody turn the lights on or light some candles in here or something, it's dark and gloomy

Weekend/Sunday 10:
Any local TPC shows in the forecast? (Just a suggestion, how about 1-yr. later 9/21/05 Dragonfly?)
Can you fill is in just a little more what the Rokbar atmosphere is like since it has been up & running for a while now? Is it open everyday, because I'd like to check it out when I fly out the end of SEP for work. (The link just shows a 1-pager w/ phone #'s.)
Have a great weekend DN & everyone!!! -Al

Dave,
Love the new layout.
I heard that Woody Allen loves to film his movies on cloudy days only. Apparently the lighting is better. ¿Have you heard about that? My 2 favorite Woody Allen films are RADIO DAYS and TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN.
I saw THE MARCH OF THE PENGUINS and THE ARISTOCRATS. Your review of TMOP was on target. Great flick. THE ARISTOCRATS was hilarious. Crude humor at its best. George Carlin, Gilbert Gottfried, Bob Saget and South Park were among the best. I recommend that you see it Dave.

Dave, I think writing is one of your best expressions...of course music being your first!
It is really cool to see someone like you make a connection with someone like Daphna- sometimes people who are in the spotlight could care less about the up-and-coming... karma is on your side, babe!
You really convey a sense of melancholy and bittersweetness about your wife and her pet and her absence and it is so obvious that you have a deep love for her.
You are very very sweet.
Have a great weekend.

Sorry to hear about the loss of scorpy. I hate when that happens!! Just don't tell her on the phone and try to be there to give her a big hug after.

Awww! Thats so awesome of you to get to know all the kids of Rockstar! I wish I could've done that. That would've been so awesome!
And Poor Scorpy. I remember I used to catch insects and/or small animals and keep them as pets. I would've loved to have caught a scorpion though. If he doesn't appear to be moving anymore, it's probably best to tell Carmen. She might be a little sad though. However, I'm sure you're the perfect man for her to bring her out of the possible sadness she might be in. :)
I also have a question if you wouldn't mind answering it! :D
Do you own any 7 string guitars?
Be Well,

Hello Sylviane!
Yeah baby, I love in D.C. too. Could really go to Crawford, too! (Not really!) It is hot as the devil's ass here today and I can just do without being outside unless I am at the pool!
I lived in Argentina, but I was raised here, and I always thought that this is the perfect target for terrorism. When I would say that to friend's from other countries, they would laugh at me. Unfortunatly we all know what happened. Eventually I plan to make my way out to California, the scene here is stale and too conservative for me. That, or, I will go live out in the countryside by the Blue Ridge Mountains...
Keep Cool!

Aww, poor Scorpy, hope he's okay!
I second what Claudinha said, it's really great that you connect with the kids on RockStar:INXS and help them to not only realize their dream, but just to hang out and really talk with them while it happens.
And a question for the Sunday 10: Any possible NYC shows coming up in the next few weeks/months with either Camp Freddy or Panic Channel?
Peace!

Do you ever buy any art on Ebay?

Hi All
I hope mortisha8 is correct. Here's hoping Scorpy is just napping. I agree with everyone, what a sweet post. Oozes with niceness.
Hope the 98% prediction is correct. I am going to listen in again and see if all goes well this time.
Wishing you all a beautiful day

Dave, if you don't mind me being a bit intrusive, is it awkward with Steve I that you still hang out with Riss, or is he ok with that?
Oh, and I hope Carmen forgives you for killing her scorpion!! :-)

Hi Dave, hi everyone,
Glad everyone had a nice time last night. Most of them really seem like cool, interesting people. The Marty thing sounds intriguing! Looking forward to the next performance show.
Good luck with the scorpion. Hopefully it's like Mortisha said, and the little guy is just hibernating or something...
Good news for all of you: VH1 is apparently showing reruns of past performance shows! You gotta love VH1 for that. I just watched this past week's show while on the phone with a friend of mine... We were sorta watching it together, doing a play-by-play review. She knows I'm a big Dave fan, and I think she's finally "converting" too, thanks to the show. :) And she likes how positive and diplomatic Dave is.
Well, enjoy the day and the weather, whatever it may be. (Or avoid it if you can.) I know it's like a steam bath here in NY.
Stay cool!
Love,
-Denise
PS: A random question for Sunday:

Hi, Dave!
I'm really enjoying Rock Star:INXS. You are one cool dude! :-)
I am pulling for Marty to win this thing.
If I could make 2 suggestions to him, I think that the only things he has left to do to win would be this: 1--Sing an entire song 'smooth', i.e.--no raspiness or screaming in his voice. I know he can do that, because I bought the Lovehammers CDs and DVD, and I've heard him do some amazing things with his voice, that he hasn't shown off on this show yet. 2--Show his full vocal range. Again, I've listened to the CDs--he hasn't shown all of his capabilities yet. I will be very excited to see him do that on this show. If he does that over the next few weeks, I believe he will be unbeatable. He's already got the stage presence and emotion part down perfectly. Mr. Brightside was absolutely stunning! You are right--he already IS a rock star. I can't take my eyes off of him.
Please send him my best wishes. Go, Marty!!!!! You've got a fan in Indiana! :-)
Thanks, Dave. Rock on!!!

just caught up on 3 nights of Tivo'd ROCKSTAR - sorry to see Brandon go but i don't think he's the best for INXS -he needs to be in s Southern Rock Band. Kudos to the house band again too - they are awesome - they should take some of the contestants who don't win and tour with them - sorta a CF type thing - have different singers...
good movie for you all - The Jacket - Adrian Brody - kind of strange but a good movie!
Please say a prayer for all the families in Brookpark, Ohio - 20 marines from the area were recently killed- the community support is strong, but i'm sure they'd appreciate all your prayers too.

Dave,
Question for the Sunday 10:
¿Have you seen Metallica's documentary SOME KIND OF MONSTER? If so, whatcha think?
Later,

I'm watching it now, it's one hour into it, and two hours left... It's definitely worth watching... I've seen them live... They are a great band - solid to the core... I highly recommend it...

Last year the Vanity Fair concerts were on both the West and East coasts. Any chances of that happening again? We're jonesing for you guys out here, ya know. ;)
Spreading the love,
Deena
Posted by: Deena at August 13, 2005 07:14 PM
"Some Kind of Monster" is gutteral and visceral documentation of Metallica's day to day life of recording an album together in a different way. With a therapist on hand to help disect and digest each other's shortcomings and to get along with them, as they are a part of the package.
When the audition part came and Jason Trujillo jammed with them, I could see right away he was it (without any personal knowledge he was chosen before seeing this documentary).
Wow, it was great to see a band keep it's edge in music while maturing and accepting life's responsibilities at hand, and not letting one kill the other. Well done Metallica.
