Penguin Movie
Carmen and I just saw March of the Penguins. What an amazing movie. I'll tell ya, those penguins really do take a lot of s!@t. All out of love for their mates and babies. I highly recommend this film. Paladin, I am way backing your From the Earth to the Moon suggestion. I loved it. Right now I am checking out a show called K Street and then I am going into Nip/Tuck as per many recommendations here.
1. I'm not getting this hype over Jordis.
That's the beautiful thing about music. You don't have to. Some get it, some don't. If everybody liked the same thing it would be a pretty boring world.
2. Madchen Amick just signed on for a role in a new sitcom starring Freddie Prinz, Jr.
Sweet!
3. Do you think there's ever a chance John Frusciante will join Camp Freddy onstage sometime?
I literally spoke to him last week and asked if he would do one. He said he'd for sure do it. My hopes are for the October Vanity Fair show.
4. (Congratulations Jordis)
um, but isn't that a conflict of interest Dave? Somewhat of a sabotage or at least an interference of sorts? LOL. Opportunist. *shakes head* Where's the caring and compassion for INXS dude?
Jordis did a cover of Should I Stay with Camp Freddy, as it was her birthday. I'm not sure I follow what you are even talking about. Jordis certainly doesn't have an edge because she played with my band. I have nothing to do with the voting process. That's all up to the guys (INXS).
5. You write very well, did writing the book help your writing skills, did you learn anything new from the experience of actually writing?
Thank you. Actually, the majority of that book was written by Neil Strauss, I just did a couple of bits.
Tonight's show has some good performances. The bottom three is getting tougher and tougher to imagine. In about two or three weeks, It'll all come down to a matter of taste. Once again, I sure am glad I don't have to decide!

Hey Dave,
I just read an article with Tommy Lee. He said he wants to get you and everyone else who played on his new album to do a 7 day tour commitment. How feasible is that with your busy schedule?
Posted by: Mark at August 9, 2005 10:27 AM
Dave,
I just saw System of Down last nite and was amazed. I had never seen them before and was not a huge fan, but I am now. I was wondering what you think of those guys? My vote for INXS goes to either Mig or Marty, Jordis is great but in the long run I just don't know if she is right for their band, INXS. Later.

Dave, glad you liked "March Of The Penguins"--did you read my review on PC??? :-) I'm happy you got to share it with Carmen--such a warm, fuzzy movie....
I will be gone this evening, out with friends, so I hope PC is up and running later so I can check out what happened with RockStar....I'll check here if PC is still being "cleaned" ;-)
Hi, Angel--love ya!!!
Love to all,

Nice to see your enjoying your time with your wife again..

Yo Dave!
Have you ever thought about following Jon Brion, Danny Elfman or Philip Glass and doing movie scores? Your music is very theatrical, and given your love of film, it seems natural. What genres would you naturally be into?
Posted by: olsen at August 9, 2005 10:42 AM
Dave - nip/tuck IS addicting! have you seen any of entourage? i'm curious what you think of it....
also, i am seeing a date of october 15th on the step up site for the vanity fair show... do you know if that's tentative or confirmed? will it be at the wiltern again?
can't wait to watch the show tonight...
<3 Sarah
Posted by: SnoWhite at August 9, 2005 10:44 AM
Ah, Nip/Tuck, Monk and House -- the only three shows that I'd chain myself to a fence if they cancelled.
My guess is that they've already taped tonight's performance episode, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that there's some sort of Jerry Garcia tribute, since today is the 10th anniversary of his death. I'll keep my toes crossed for the unlikely appearance of you on guitar for Ripple again. :)

Heya dave,
just wanted to say that my wife 'n I are officially addicted to rockstar inxs. We tried not to be.. really.. we joked about it and teased it and made fun.. but now 3/4 weeks in and it's up there on the top of our TiVo record list.
and we're fully voting for Jordis all the way.
I wanted to thank you guys for the way you're treating the contestants.. I think it's great that you're all super suportive and really kind to them. You respect them and treat them with the respect they deserve for getting as far as they have in the contest..
it's so refreshing to watch people actually care about other people's feelings in a show like this, unlike some of the other "reality" tv shows out there.. american idol.. that one with the rich guy.. etc etc.
keep up the good work, and thanks again for all the years of awesome music.

Dave,
What do you think of Trent’s plan to help stop scalpers by creating the Spiral for NIN fans, and having auctions for his tickets? I have to say, buying the tix through the Spiral was the easiest time I’ve ever had for such a high demand concert. And the auction proceeds go to http://www.innocenceproject.org/, which I’ve never heard of, but seems like a good charity. They work not-for-profit to help exonerate wrongfully convicted people. This is a great idea, you could do it for your shows for the Elisabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, or MAP. Also, could put links on your page for those foundations? With all the new traffic, it could help the charities.
Can’t wait for the show tonight!
Hey, addicted_to_Dave_girl/Erin, happy bday, it’s also my son’s 16th that day.

Dave do you know when the gig will be. I have a couple of things planned for October and don't want to miss it again. Last year I was in phoenix.
Maybe I can plan around...
Posted by: wendybird at August 9, 2005 11:48 AM
Wendybird,
The NY show is supposedly Oct 19, which was the same week as last year. And last year, the LA show was 2 days after the NY show, I think on a Sat. If the newsletter I got was right, I'd plan on that week. But don't quote me on it!!
Love,

If you're into off the wall British humor check out the Young Ones. It used to be on MTV, now you can sometimes catch episodes on BBC - or buy the boxed set! I also recommend buying the boxed set of Eerie, Indiana - that was a great show -
I have to TiVo INXS tonight and tomorrow - seeing Kenny Loggins tonight and Motley Crue tomorrow (talk about a wide variety!)

Thanks sue, that sounds much better. I'll be in New Orleans for Halloween weekend I think. I'm such a concert whore; I hate to miss a Camp Freddy gig.
On a side note, I think I'll have to take down Dave and slash's picture as my screensaver. None of the office staff can get much work done. I have a few new Dave converts…
Posted by: wendybird at August 9, 2005 12:06 PM
I was watching the Rock Star CBS.com video after elimination comments today, and heard Daphna's comments about INXS: "How she had not spent much time with any of the group members; how little she got to know about them and that there was no heartfelt conversation with INXS: The chemistry was just not there".
Is INXS really serious about FINDING a new lead singer or is the group only "browsing", which would not be fair to the contestants who are putting all their hopes in this competition.
Best,
Sylviane
PS: You never responded about performing on Rock Star yourself :-(

Dave,
You mentioned a Vanity Fair show in October. Does that mean CF is coming back to NYC at that time? Will TPC play too? If so, hopefully it will be at Irving Plaza again. Oh, and while you're at it, bring back THE ROOTS too. They rocked.

I just got the new Tommy Lee disc sent to me and was curious how the collaboration between you and he went. DId he have lyrics already set and just played to that or was it you guys just jamming and then he added music later? I like the song with you and Butch Walker...its pretty tight, yeah

Hi,
I'm just curious about the elimination process....does INXS ever know in exactly what order the bottom three are in? Or are they, like us TV viewers, just told which ones landed in the bottom three slots?
Thanks,

I am psyched 4 2night---Mike, I too love System. I saw them in the desert in 2002 with Social D. at a concert festival in Tucson. They certainly rock. Daphna looks so happy! Cool. I don't think it's trite 2 let Dave know he looked hot last week at all! It's trite to hate on him... B-cuz it is so obviously NOT true! Dave is so close 2 near perfect....He would qualify 4 sainthood if he could lose the Hum and smokes. IMHO. peace--Carly

Hey dave,
glad to hear all is well! You do write amazingly well, and the way you think is surprising, i've learned a lot from you. I don't see Jordis as getting ahead just because she sang with your band.... had it been any of the other contestants, they would've had the same oppurtunity. I can't wait to hear Suzie tonight, she'll either be amazing, or so terribly bad. One thing I have learned though, sometimes you have to flop into the terrible, to really improve yourself. I was thinking.... have you ever thought of writing anything about poker. Like a how-to type thing? i really need to learn lol
lots of love

I am about finished with the book. You wrote a few of the entries and I stand by my assessment, haha. You do write very well.
I have enjoyed reading it. The good thing about having it, with the community down, I had plenty of time to read your book. Timing is everything.
I enjoyed your philosophy about a few things and think you are even "cooler" then before I read it. You warned early on this blog that parts of it are dark. Maybe. I found a lot of hope in it.
Take care and hug Carmen for us all,

Hi Dave & friends,
So many great posts, so much going on...
Thanks, Dave and everyone else, for all of the movie and TV suggestions. Some I've seen and love, some I want to see (like Nip/Tuck). I know that pretty much all of the HBO shows are awesome. (I'm particularly fond of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Da Ali G Show. SO freaking funny. Even that Cathouse series, about the brothel, is quite, um, interesting.) I don't have Showtime, but I'm sure those shows are quite captivating as well.
I may have said this already, but it would be awesome to see all of you again (and Camp Freddy or Panic Channel) at the Vanity Fair show. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Jess - I haven't watched that TDDUP ep in a while, but I think you're talking about "True Nature".
EmpyreLounge - Those Crue pics are fantastic!! I'm seeing them at Jones Beach next week. Pretty 'out of character' for me music-wise, but I'm psyched anyway. It should be an unforgettable experience. Always fun to try new things.
Stardreme - Isn't the book great? Trust me, you'll find yourself re-reading sections over and over again. It really does show what a complex, deep, intelligent, and fascinating person Dave is. The 'dark' stuff reminds us that he is, after all, a human being. (As our friend J.D. would say. LOL) It's so easy to forget that. :)
Anyhow, have a fantastic evening, everyone!
Later-
-Denise

Whooo, I'm excited-The book is now ordered along with some 3 spiked bracelets.
I'm curious though, Dave being all Hollywood and famous, if I'll be able to relate to anything in the book. But as I was talking to someone else--I guess you can still relate I suppose..whether you're doing drugs/hanging out with another famous person in some fancy house-or if you're in some crappy/urine stentched Chicago hotel room elevator with someone named John Smith. In the end people usually have the same stories to tell-only with different people. Some unknown and others well known. Or something. :)
Have a great night Dave and everyone!-

Hello All,
OK maybe "trite" was the wrong word...I just should have given in to triteness and just say it- Dave is damn fascinating.
Nothing wrong with Jordis singing with CF- rock-n-roll is about spontaneity after all, no?
I am from Argentina, and during the military dictatorship there was heavy paranoia and suspicion about anyone involved in music or the arts...so my friends and I just chanced it and would sing outdoors, play guitar, bongos, whatever and believe it or not, all the songs were not about protest, they were about whatever we felt like singing. My whole point is, that thank goodness that we are in good ol' USA where someone like Jordis gets a chance and is pulled on stage to share her talent with the world...
Signing off from D.C. where DICKtators abound and there are few places where you can rock out and dance on tabletops, but hell, we try to find them anyway!

I'm just going to have to wait til it comes on video though, because I want my three year old son to see it too! He's been in a theater before, and trust me, getting him to sit still for over an hour is like...well, I don't know what it's like, but it doesn't work, LOL!
Anyways, I've been faithfully watching RS:INXS, and I have to say that Jordis is amongst my faves! And, of course, your beautiful face lightens up the screen! (I have to be quiet now, my husband just walked in the room :) ).

It was a great show again. I think Suzie did the best ever. I liked Jordis's face when she about dropped the microphone. She did great. It is hard to say anything negative. The good thing about music is there is a style for everyone. If like me, you like them all and life is better.

Great show...wished I look like Brooke in that skirt- bold!
Ty kicked ass, so did Marty and I still love Jordis regardless... I think Mig will win though...
Susie actually did a great job!

Posted by: Claudinha at August 9, 2005 08:16 PM
how was JD??
Posted by: wendybird at August 9, 2005 08:17 PM
Since the TPC site is down...
Whoo-hoo. Great show. The official "Goosebump Award" goes hands-down to Marty tonight. Runner-up is Dave, for his "make us cry" comment to Mig (who was fine as usual). I tell you, the man is deep! Ty was awesome, so was JD. (I love both of their songs regardless, but they really did them justice.) Everyone else was also very good in their own way.
My husband brought up a good point about JD potentially being hard to work with. That's something they have to think about too, and I think that was hinted at as well. Something for them to keep in mind.
Mike from NYC... Sounds like a plan. Maybe we'll get together that final night of the show... Our own unique kind of "Rock Star Super Bowl" party. (Too bad it's on a weeknight, right? LOL) We'll definitely figure something out.
Have a good one, everyone. :)

Did you mean someone else?

Marty solo acoustic was really good tonight...Im not a big fan of his but he was really good, especially his little pause the first time he hit the Mr Brightside, when he stopped the guitar as well. Real nice subtle little move...if he isnt the frontrunner, I dont know who is.
I do have a gigantic crush on Jordis and was sadened when her boyfriend was there :)
Brandon was a real fun performance, i thought and was sad to see him in bottom 3, but i put in lots of votes cause id like to see him stick around.
ps. glad you guys liked the crue photos. im still waiting for a TPC Boston show so I can get some good shots, my Janes shots from Lollapalooza came out not as good as I wanted...the victim of a kick to my camera by a crowd surfer early in the day courtesy of the Jackass crew.

hi Dave hi everyone!
i usually don't post here much (as you know) unless i ahve a quetion or something, i'm just at work and missing my community.. :'( i am so addicted.
but yes, i want to see March of the Penquins so bad, i saw the preview for it when i went to Charlie and the Chocolate Facorty, i swear it turned me instantly incredibly girly. just all "awww..." and "how CUTE!" and then i melted into my seat. i need to find a way to get the bf to go to see that with me.

JD is a transparent knobhole. Unlike the villians on Survivor, the editors don't even have to try in order to make him look like an ass. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.
Mark Burnett should be the new lead singer for rock supergroup INXS.

Glad to see my expectation of how Jessica would handle Nirvana was spot on. And getting defensive about it? Oiy... How she got *this* far is the shocker to me.
So, she's gone. Who's next?
Unless he changes stuff up a bit, my guess is Brandon, who I think is good in the bluesy vein, but for INXS? Just a wrong wrong fit.

YUK.
'losing my religion' as an Evanecence song (guess why I hate Evanecence). I am going to shoot myself. Nirvana ala Lisa Marie Presley. FUUUUUUUUUCK.

You wanna feed them a song to murder get them to do a Oasis song... how about Lila, I got sucked into writing the lyrics to the fucking thing. You want to blame someone for my brothers death, blame fucking Liam Gallagher and his 'oh it's a sure thing' shity ass, big mouth advice...
My brother deserves better than this.

Uggh. I hate having insomnia...I am on Cali time, although I am in D.C.
When will sleep come over me???
Must be very tired to be writing this...but you all are a cool group of people, accepting, it seems to me...even of sleeplessness...
Posted by: Claudinha at August 10, 2005 12:56 AM
Man am I a freakin' goob. I suggested that Dave should be in indie films. I typed his name in at the imdb.com site...and there this is this huge list of films he has collaborated on as well as composed for...now see- I am living proof that insomnia can sometimes bring out reason in a person...you learn something new everyday...while I am more than familiar with his music, I never paid attention to the person/s behind all of it...
My humble apologies Dave...and a smack on the ass for me!

Hey Dave,
You might want to recommend to Brandon that he waits for Rock Star: The Black Crowes...
Also, tell Deanna that she has to be the hottest WOMAN I've ever seen and if she wants to teach a little boy some things, I'm willing to learn (I'm just kidding...I think...anyway)...
Peace.

Hi Dave:
Jordis interpretation of Layla had nothing to do with the Clapton song. I had just heard the song on my mp3 player at the gym, and my feeling is that Jordis either wasn't into that song, or it was not the song for her?
What's your input?
Waiting for tonight's show!

Have you seen the movie Kurt & Courtney? I watched it last night and was very disappointed since I have read and heard all the conspiracy theories, but the movie really just did nothing. I was hoping to see something interesting, but it just really pointed out all the lowlifes that are coming up with these conspiracies looking to cash in.

Sylviane, I agree with you about Jordis' Clapton. He was so passionate in that song (He did love Patty), and I did not get that from her. But I still LOVE her, and I'm pulling for her to suit herself better next time. I just want to comment on all the contestants having the most amazing attitudes I've ever seen. I love that,it's inspiring. Dave-cool shirt. Brooke's skirt was sexy as hell.

Josh - I was thinking Black Crowes too! (Re: Brandon's performance.)
And I realized where Jessica belongs - in the Pussycat Dolls! I'm serious. Maybe Carmen can put in a good word for her. :)

Hi Dave,
I was just wondering if Camp Freddy was going to appear at New York's Fashion Week in early September. You guys play a lot of shows in LA and Vegas, I'd love to see you do something over here. It would also be a dream of mine to meet Jerry Cantrell if he appears with you.
Keep rockin'!

hey dave,
that picture of "look under your car for penguins" is from here in cape town south africa. its a beach called Boulders beach where there are a ton of penguins, and table mountain is our famous mountain here in cape town. at boulders beach you can actual park off on the beach or swim in the sea with the penguins, they are really friendly and stroll past you as you lay on the beach. just thought youd all like to know!

Dave-Nice shirt last night. Brooke....OMG I would call in and vote for her just on "hotness" alone. Marty was awesome last night. He took me by surprise doing the solo thing with out (The Awesome House Band!!!!-sorry have to give props). I was a little surprised by Jordis, but hey.... what are you going to do? Suzie, was rad as well. Hope you are doing well......Looking forward to the next show.....

Hey Dave...
Are you and the band going to be in Las Vegas for VEGOOSE - Halloween?
TL
Posted by: TL at August 10, 2005 02:53 PM
Dave - love the shirt.
i thought Jordis would have done a better slow version of Layla. that may have given her an easier way to make it more passionate. still love the girl.
i saw an old episode of SNL the other day with INXS as the musical guest. i have to say, even live, Michael's voice was just effortless. that was one of the best vocal performances i have ever seen on SNL.
it's funny how humble JD acts now... the arrogant jack-ass persona wasn't really working for him. doesn't he know? you can't pull off that kind of personality until AFTER you are famous (ha ha). but i hate to admit, he DOES rock. the guy's got skills.

Happy Birthday sweetmelis
Yay-The elimination show tonight.
Someone said they were playing a drinking game and that every time Brooke said "Rocker"..they had to drink. Well, I'm doing the Dave and "Buddy" thing myself. Well, I'm not drinking per say but I look at my dog to see if he starts looking around to see who is calling "Buddy", his nicname. :)
"Jake, Dave's talking to you--calling you Buddy, isn't that sweet?"..Heh
Everytime Dave says "Buddy" I just smile.
I'm thinking Jessica will go tonight.

Quick question Dave...you always ask the rockers that were let go to say something to INXS before they leave the stage. Don't you think that's kind of torturing them? Most of them are all choked up with the sad news...it must be hard for them to say thanks to them after hearing the bad news!! I don't think I'd be able to say anything without balling!
Anyway...you looked hot as always tonight! Love the way your hair was! VERY nice!

The updated look her is pretty cool! diggin' it!
Always nice to switch things up!
Hope everyone has a great rest of the week!
sleep well, and dream as much as possible!
I thought Jessica should have gone, but I also agree with the Brandon waiting for the Black Crowes competition!! ( I am a huge Crowes fan, so that's not a dig!)
I did't like Jordis last night, but gave her proprs for trying something new!
Suzie should have never been in the bottom three, she's gettin better every week! and she rocked it tonight!
Off to bed!
