Burbank
So we got to the airport on time and everything seems to be going as planned. We stroll up to the check in only to find, that our flight has been cancelled! I couldn’t believe it, but I have to say that I kept it together pretty well… Like, “It’s all part of God’s plan. I was reminded of my old story, Looking For God. Anyway, I decide to make use of the extra 4 hours it’ll take to get on another flight, by attempting to view the surrounding airport on a molecular level and beyond. I even tried to get all string theory about it and look for the tiny vibrations that make up everything in the universe, from the physics to the mechanics. I got about 40 seconds out of it. Damn that was boring. Put any spin on it you want, I’m still sitting in an airport for 4 hours.

Dave
Sorry to hear that man. Nothing more boring than waiting in an airport.
Posted by: Jesse at August 26, 2005 01:00 PM
You must have ALOT of patience, I probably would have ripped someone a new one... You can always spend 4 hours sing happy birthday to me OR read every single thread at the Community....

Might be God's way of giving you a 4 hour breather before a very intense poker weekend. Or an opportunity to be of some form of service to someone else.
In any case.. enjoy and win big!

Dave,
Sorry to hear about your bad luck today. Look at the bright side...you're still married to the lovely CE!!!
Have fun in Sin City!!

Dave~Why did the flight get cancelled?
Posted by: ylais at August 26, 2005 01:12 PM
Awww that's so crap, airports are always really dull. :(
I've finally managed to download all this week's episodes of Rock Star - i live in England and they don't show it till the following Sunday night over here which drives me mad! At least i've saved 2 days of waiting now. ;)
I hope you have a great weekend! xxxxx

Yowser!!!
I remember, two years ago, we were supposed to fly out to New York on Christmas, some kind of snowstorm grounded all incoming flights, there we were, my son, my niece, and I, at the Long Beach airport for TWELVE HOURS...oh, sure they gave us food vouchers, (the HORROR), but, there's not much to look at after 20 minutes, I think I bought EVERY magazine and word search puzzle, by the time our flight boarded, I had almost forgotten where and why we were going
ah, but at least NOW I know the answer to my question about your portable internet access...
jezzi(be on the lookout for the lovely Cori!!)
Posted by: jezebel at August 26, 2005 01:17 PM
Dave- I remember that "Looking for God" story. Hang in there. I would rather be stuck in an airport for four hours than 8 hours at my job today LOL!
Posted by: Brett at August 26, 2005 01:18 PM
wait just a minute..you could DRIVE to Vegas in four hours!!!

Posted by: jezebel at August 26, 2005 01:19 PM
Is Carmen with you? If she is at least you two can walk around together. I really don't know what to tell ya. When I was stuck in an airport for like 3 hours I just listened to music and read a magazine and even wrote about my experience. Oh yeah and I would be pissed if no one notified me it was cancelled. Was it cancelled even before you left?

You should get a Palm Pilot, download Texas Hold'em and practice so you kick ass. Have a blast man, and someday, bring your band to Winnipeg uphere in Canada.

That sucks! Usually that happens when you are trying to get out of Vegas.
Posted by: James Goodman at August 26, 2005 01:42 PM
Is the airport really that bad Dave? :D
Posted by: Adriana at August 26, 2005 01:48 PM
Wow! That sucks.
But still kinda refreshing that that sort of thing happens to big rock stars, too. haha
Now for a question... Velvet Revolver aim to be releasing their next album around march-april next year. I was just wondering if you would consider a Velvet Revolver/Panic Channel tour? And if that does happen, would you bring it over to england? You and Slash are my favourite guitarists of all-time, and it'd be amazing to see you both play on the same night.
Posted by: Anthony (aka AxlReznor) at August 26, 2005 01:49 PM
Wow thats hatin it!! I know how you feel...although when that happened to me I was going on my 3rd day of no sleep and was cracked out of my mind. Ahhhh the good ol days...riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. lol
My flight was canceled and I was forced to spend the whole night (10 hours total) in the Reno airport. I found a quiet place to sleep and then some jackass tried to steal my purse out from under my head!!! Longest night of my life...
Moral of the story...It could be much worse dear Dave! :) Have fun in Vegas!

Sorry to hear about the delay. Bummer. Obviously you have access to a computer, so you can do all of the wonderful things that everyone's suggesting... Visit boards, play games, chat, etc.
Or... Read a book, take a nap, make some phone calls, have some coffee (or maybe in this already nerve-wracking case, decaf), go over poker strategies in your head, or my favorite... throw on the shades and do some serious people-watching. Give them names, make up stories... it's quite fun.
Good luck and hang in there. Like you said, maybe God wants you to take it easy for a little while.
Later!
Posted by: Denise at August 26, 2005 02:36 PM
BTW, I miss your old stories ~ they were always so clever. You should do more. On airport, when I have time there, I mail out postcards. Keeps me busy.LOL Godspeed.
Posted by: Rachel at August 26, 2005 02:37 PM
Hi Dave.
One question: Any plans to release any live dvd, in Jane's, solo or Panic Channel??
Posted by: Marcel at August 26, 2005 02:47 PM
LOL Dave. I think I would have lasted about 15 seconds. I have a friend who can sit and think like that for hours. And that precisely is the reason we are ONLY friends. He is anal x 1000. I'm sure I'd end up stabbing him to death if we did get involved.
In other news, I just finished your book. A little late, I know, but I was busy with moving and fixing up the awesome 100 year ghetto house I bought in Camden, NJ. Anyway, wow, I could relate to so much of it. ALL of the emotional stuff, the abandonment issues, all the shit that goes with that. It was very cool to be validated by you struggling with the same type of emotions, pitfalls, and especially the defense mechanisms! Man, I can wreak some havoc with that shit.
I'm all the more interested to see how your life progresses, due to all that. It's like I can't believe that it's really as good now as your making it out to be. I know that sounds horrible, but it's not you, it's me. Because I wonder if that kind of hardwiring can really be changed. I kinda feel like once we get broken, we stay that way -- like a wire that gets bent and can never really be straightened.
Hopefully I'll eventually be a believer. I keep pushing myself in that direction, as I have for many years now. But I swear, if I could have looked ahead at how hard I'd work to gain so little, I'd have said fuck it years ago. Now I'm so far into the game it's like I gotta keep hanging on, and just hope that I'm closer than I realize to it all coming together. But holy shit, if I ever decide to give up, look out, because my little ass will surely end up on the news!
Much love always.
Dana

Sorry everyone about how long that turned out to be.
Posted by: Dana at August 26, 2005 02:49 PM
DAVE
Do some sketching of all the other bored
people there with you. I always do that
when I'm stuck in airports.
Posted by: Nik at August 26, 2005 03:06 PM
I'm almost done with the book. I had to read it in small spurts cause it made me want to smoke..lol
I'm kind of wondering about a few things though-
Like the poster above mentioned-
Once you've been in those situations--and pull yourself out--what would it take for someone to fall back into their old ways? I find myself thinking about my old ways and feel sometimes--they're really not that far behind me at times.
They seem to be always with me-it's who I'am...and who those situations have also helped me to change and become now.
I've certainly come a long way from my "old days". But what's to say that line won't be crossed in the future? Oh well-Just sitting her thinking about things.
Also, I'm curious as to how you got to be so interested in computers. How'd that come about, and when? I didn't realize you were so computer savvy.
Have a great weekend all!

How do you have access to this when you're in the airport? Yeah I'm sure that would suck to get stuck like that. I dont take planes just because I'm afraid of heights and I dont want it crashing. I'd hate to be sitting around for hours. You'll be fine. Thats right. Somethings happen for a reason. Have a nice dayy!

That's the burbank airport huh? I fly out of there at least twice a month and it's the most boring airport ever!!!!
try the coffee place there though, it's usually pretty good :)
Posted by: caughtalitesneeze at August 26, 2005 03:56 PM
oh yeah the coffee place is called Tully's :)
Posted by: caughtalitesneeze at August 26, 2005 04:07 PM
Dave
Got a better one for you. Imagine spending the night in Laguardia back in the days before laptops. THAT was boring. Not to undermine the boredom of spending any amount of time in an airport. Hope the rest of the trip goes well.
Posted by: Stardreme at August 26, 2005 04:18 PM
"Looking For God" was a nice story! Do you think you might post new ones in the future, when you've got, maybe, a little more time spare?
Stoked about the store, TEEEE-SHIRTS!!!
Posted by: Spencer at August 26, 2005 04:36 PM
the only redeeming thing about the burbank airport is that it's mostly set up with wireless internet for everyone to use which I assume is what dave was using :)
Posted by: caughtalitesneeze at August 26, 2005 04:53 PM
wow... i hate airports..... hope it gets better

dave, try singing 99 bottle of beer on the wall, now thats boring!
Posted by: Kyle at August 26, 2005 11:39 PM
Hi Dave, WOW a 4 hour delay. I believe that things happen for a reason and you just were not supposed to get on that plane yet. I am a person with a lot of patience so I would not have been upset. One time I waited for 3 hours in a video store waiting for a movie I wanted to see to be returned. I'm a little crazy like that. Good luck in the tournament. Win some for me. lol

Airports are good for people watching.

ON THE AIRPLANE
When you are on the plane
look out the window
If you see communists below
it is a sign that you have been hijacked
Don’t alert the flight attendants
They are in on it
Don’t tell the other passengers
They are also in on it
This isn’t the right plane
Now you realize
Act naturally
Smile at everyone
Don’t stare out the window
They’ll get suspicious
They already have their eye on you
because of your head
And they way you manipulated luggage
in the overhead compartment
Best thing you can do is go to the restroom and weep
Let it all out
You’ll notice the smoke detectors have been tampered with
That’s part of it too
Now open the waste disposal lid
Put your hand inside
Can you feel the book?
I’ve left it there for you
It will tell you how to disable your enemies
using only your seat cushion
Read carefully
Eat the book
You don’t want the plane food anyway
Unless you’ve already been served
Eaten the food
If so
Abandon hope
It is already too late
I’m sorry I didn’t get to you sooner
I love you
I love your family
I’ll take care of everything
Farewell Comrade

Goodmorning!
Did you finally make it to Vegas? How was the flight?
I hate when that happens - the local airport is an hour away and I was waiting for someone to come in to find out the flight was cancelled and they couldn't call to tell me. Two trips to the airport because the next flight was the next day!
Wish I was playing cards . . .
Have a great time~
Always,
me

Sorry your flight was cancelled. HOpe you got there safe and sound with enough time to emotionally refuel. I was stuck for 15 hours once with $5 in my pocket. I did a lot of people watching.

you can play colors...
where one looks around and sees something and says "i see something red"... then the guessers have to find it... the color chooser can pre-determine how many guesses in total before chooser reveals object of chosen color... or it ends if all seekers "give"...
our family did this on long car drives, waits etc...

I hate airports and I should know since I've probably spent more then half my life in them and am destined to spend more. So do you check in the "regular" way and wait at "regular" lounges? Or do they have special ones designated for you?
