War of the Worlds
After the studio last night, which by the way, went very well, Steve I. and I went to see War of the Worlds. If you don't want to know anything about it, skip this paragraph. Tom Cruise actually turned in one of his best performances to date I must say. He was kind of awesome. The special effects were also superb. Lots of destruction and some great camera moves, some that I have never seen done before and some that kind of tipped the hat to older Spielberg styles. Dakota Fanning as always, is just an unreal talent and almost steals the film. Also, WOTW bore very creative aliens, but as in most alien films, it was hard to picture these guys on their planet back home, building all of their high tech gear and asking each other to pass the wrench. The problems I had with the movie were these... No real story. We don't know why they are here, what they want or why they want to kill us. There is an implication that they have been here all along, but in the end, they just kind of... die. Something about the microscopic creatures in the water. At one point, as they are dying, Tom asks an army officer, "What's happening?" He literally replies, "I don't know... Something happened to them. They just started acting all crazy." Then they die and it ends. Also, not one spaceship! Not one. Instead, they have these giant robotic walking things that just blow everything up. In fact, the "tripods" look like huge mechanical aliens. Kind of like if we had huge people shaped modes of transport. Tim Robbins. Out of the blue, Tim Robbins just kind of shows up for a half an hour and it's really kind of a bummer. Hey, I don't know the original story and maybe that's how it all goes. It just seems to me that if they had all this technology, had been here for years and could travel light years to kill us, they would have figured out that our water would kill them. Whoever on their planet masterminded this attack without looking into the potential dangers on Earth, is so fired!

First?
I'm currently watching Live 8 from London. The Killers on. Velvet Revolver are on next.
Good afternoon, Dave!
I'm seeing War of The Worlds soon!
Posted by: Julie at July 2, 2005 12:04 PM
well I am going to go see the movie anyways. I want to see the special effects!
Question? Any word yet when the Camp Freddy album is due out?
Posted by: babyuni67 at July 2, 2005 12:09 PM
justin!! You have done it AGAIN!! I love the Southpark Perk..
Thanks for the review Dave, obviously I don't know the history of psychiatry, but I do know that TC IS one fine actor. and Dakota has had my heart since I am Sam. Don't tell me the aliens fell for the water trick? Did the guys from Signs teach them NOTHING? (Swing away!!) The oldest trick in the book, worked on the Wicked Witch of the West, and still works today!!
NO new CFR? Who is going to tell Billy?
love

I have a question. Is it true that Carmen bought you the Buick Grand National as a present?
Bit sad there's no Camp Freddy. Its on at 2am Sunday morning over the net in the UK. Still waiting for Velvet Revolver...

Thanks so much for the WOTW review Dave~!
I wasn't going to see it anyway. I'll wait to see it on cable, as I do with most movies. lol I'm quite proud to admit that I haven't been to a movie theater in about 8 years! I'd rather use my 'entertainment money' to buy music.
You've got to start doing "Movies'N'Crap" again! Your reviews are always hilarious, informative & dead on.
LOVE todays art, HYSTERICAL, cute & just plain excellent!
Watching Live 8....most of the ROCK perfomances have been edited. Don't get me started!
Have a GREAT holiday weekend~!

Dakota is from here, so proud of her, she's on the "A" list at what, 10, 11? I know what happened to the aliens. Tom converted all of them to scientology. That's what drove them to act all crazy.

umm, i think typepad is having intermittent issues, it's not me, i promise. hey, it's aliens!

"...I don't know the original story and maybe that's how it all goes."
I haven't read the original book, but the radio broadcast is well worth the listen. If only Tom hadn't gone all nut job lately I'd be more willing to go to the theatre and support the bankroll, instead I'll just rent it in a couple months.

hey dave,
I just saw Velvet Revolver perform on Live 8 and thought of you ;)
ps. if/when you see Scott Weiland could you pass on the fantasy comment that I left for you? (I'd love you for forever and a day if you did)
Posted by: dirty little thing at July 2, 2005 01:20 PM
Hey Dave,
My friends and I at first were a bit confused with the birds on the machines at the end, thinking they was killing the Aliens!! However the Aliens were dying not from the water but from virus's and bacteria that we over the thousands of years have adapted to and have managed to immune up on. Could have been explained better, but hope that explains it a bit better for ya. Take care.

Tom Cruise kind of freaks me out these days, but I love Dakota Fanning - wonderful little actress. Anyone else kind of wish the older brother, Robbie, hadn't been back at the end? That seemed a little to unbelievable to me - though I realize the irony of that statement, considering I'm talking about a sci-fi movie.;)

Dave,
SOUTH PARK rules!!
¿Does this mean that you guys will be featured in an episode?
Also, I am going to my friend Anthony's bachelor party tonight. Hopefully I will remember everything that happens tonight. ¿Does anyone have any great bachelor party stories? Just askin'.
For those living in the NYC tri-state area, you gotta listen to K-Rock 92.3 FM, the home of Howard Stern, this weekend. They are having their Monster Metal Weekend.
Later,

Love the Southpark TPC pic!
Absolutely brilliant.
No new CFR :( awww...
I just found this tab online for Bloody Mary. I was searching for a pic of TPC to put on my myspace page, when I came across it:
http://www.mxtabs.net/tabs.php?path=Guitar,t,23774,The+Panic+Channel,Bloody+Mary,183007
Back to searching for a TPC pic for myspace. Does anyone have a good pic with all the band in it please?
Thanks, and hugs

Hi Mike,
I see you mentioned Howard Stern, this is his last week on E!.
I heard he might be picked up by another TV station once he gets on Sirius, but I'm not really following all his goings-on lately.
I will miss the E! show, the sheer insanity during the celebrity interviews was always fun.
I think of the older shows, when the Jackie & Gary puppets were first introduced and Stuttering John's outrageous celebrity interviews at the various events they sent him to... I can't stop laughing.
take care,

Just want to say thank you for sharing your life & being a part of mine. Though we met only once, I have always felt a kind of kindred connection. On Friday evening, I was able to welcome into this world, my twin sons, Jacob & Matthew. I only hope that I can share/pass on the spirit/joy/mystery/amazement/(insert phrase here) of this world that you have to me. Thank you once again for being who you are & for sharing that with the rest of us. I wish you, Carmen, and your family all the joy in the world.

The original story was written in 1898 and set in an England of that time period. So the mystery of the red planet is still intact. The whole buried machine thing gives rise to Dave's faulting the ending and ruins the ending because if the martians had been down before they would have encountered the germs, indeed why didn't they just stay then???
The more I think about it the more I think the movie was crap actually. Seeing Dave's reaction as an individual who has not read the original just helps make it worse!!!

Hey Dave,
Just wondering, did the TV adaptation of John Christopher's "The Tripods" ever make it over there?
Just the "tripod" comment made me think about it, and remember how it used to freak me out as a kid...
Have a good Sunday, let Steve know we're missin' his wisdom

i remember watching it when i was young and being scared shitless. by todays standards it is most probably lame, but it is stil a CLASSIC!

Good review Dave,
Too many references to 911. I dont really want to see that in a movie.
Daves right, there's no story although it is an incredible production...
The movie wants to scare you and make you feel unsafe on this earth. It wants to hit you with paranoia and remind you of your imortality...

Michael - Congratulations on the birth of your sons!
Dave - Thanks for the review. I'm trying to talk my husband out of going to see WOTW tonight, and this might help!
(Truth is, although I don't really want to support Tom Cruise, I might enjoy flick if we do go. Ya never know. Or I'll take a nice, relaxing nap. Sci-fi movies and background music put me to sleep every time. I'm weird like that.)
All the best,

It'll be weird for me seeing WOTW. I'm from the tiny South-East English town where it's originally based and it's quite a big deal here! It'll be weird to see the story without all the local towns names and stuff.
Thanks for the review Dave. Quite bored of TC and was put off the film because of him but I'll check it out now.
Hope all the 6767ers are good!
Much love,
Sarah
P.S. Seriously Dave, you and Carmen are so fucking hot I have no idea how you manage to leave the house in the morning.

Yeah the storyline was weird and the ending not what movie goers expect these days BUT it would have been worse if it hadn't been true to the original story. I personally think it was great how they didn't cop out with the ending, that was very brave.
And I think in the book it was actually the bacteria from the human's blood that killed them. But I could be wrong.
Take care,

personally you couldnt pay me to watch a fuckin' tom cruise move........with a gun 2 my head and/or superglued & ducktaped to the chair....but even if he wasnt in it....i probly still wouldnt go see the new WOTW's remake...the original didnt really do much for me anyways....i usually prefer original/classics to all the remakes that hollyweird's been pumping out the past few years.....(tho im extremely looking 4ward to tim burton's version of willy wonka)....
i guess HappyHairyHardon (christian slater) was right when he said...."you see theres nothing to do anymore, everthing decents been done. all the great themes have been used up, turned into theme parks. so i don't really find it exactly cheerful,to be living in the middle of a totally exhausted decade where theres nothing to look forward to and nobody to look up to..."
thats pretty fuck'n accurate 2 a point (i really look up 2 dave and TPC and am really looking forward to the albums debut)
but as far as hollyweird and movies go....it appears that no-ones capable of creating new originals anymore...its all the same old shit rehashed, refried, and dressed up with pretty lights and special effects.......
sure the remakes have more eye candy than the originals did.....and im not saying i don't love a remake with fab effects....but wheres all the talent gone? with all the good writers out there....is no-one capable of writing a new and future classic film?...sure theres a few new films here and there that arnt remakes, but theres no passion, no original genius creativety.
im sick of the same movies being remade, redone, and ruined...i think it should be a law that original movies/classics couldnt be remade over and over till the story is no longer entertaining. they should be untouchable, so that they would remain classics....to be respected and admired for the very thing that makes it a classic movie....
i swear im gonna go postal on the movie lots in hollyweird if someone remakes "gone with the wind" or "one flew over the cuckoo's nest"......(and if they are please dont tell me).....i long for a new movie full of originality and creativey that is in the same caliber "destined 2 be a classic" as those last 2 i mentioned. is it too much to ask for something full of talent, fresh faces, new ideas, things that havn't been done before. there has to be an undiscoverd fresh face out there that is the "jimi hendrix of movie directors".....
im waiting to be wow'd people......"here we are now entertain us".......

oh and hopefully to help everyone to not accidentally double and triple post the same thing, ive discovered a pattern to it. doesnt happen every time, but sometime when i try to post, i get an error page, bout the server possibly bein down and it wants you to refresh or repost. it u reload the page or try to send it again thats where the double posts happen. i got the same error page when i tried posting the previous post. but rather than reloading/refreshing the page jus go back to the main heading of that days blog and if u chek at the bottom, the post is there ....everytime without fail. the information makes it thru even tho it appears it didnt. why the server has this glitch i don't have a clue. im not a website genie-ass that mr chafino is. perhaps he would know what causes this glitch. i just notice and identify patterns and how to get around the system glitches.....hope this is helpful....i know all the extra double & triple posts are not intentional spam, but they still kinda irk me...im sure im not the only one....

Goodmorning!
Still problems with typepad?
Okay, I am now jealous of my 12 year old niece. She just told me that while she and her mom were visiting in LA, they were stopped at a light beside DAVE! My niece, knew who Dave was, but not my sister. She told her mom, "that's the guy who's married to Carmen Electra."
Now my niece and my sister are rubbing it in that they were that close to him . . . .
Jealous, jealous, jealous . . .
Always,
me

Happy 4th, everybody!
Is typepad acting up again?
My 12 yr old niece just told me a story that made me jealous! A few weeks ago, she and my sister were in LA. At a stop light, who was beside them in a hummer? Give you one guess!
My sister had no idea. My niece told her, that's the guy who's married to Carmen Electra!
Jealous, jealous, jealous . . . .
Always,
me

Me...don't like Speilberg anyways!
