Vegas Poker

MainimageOn August 26th I am doing that Vegas Rockstar Poker thing again in Vegas with Gene Simmons and Jerry Cantrell. I have added a link for those interested in participating. The winner takes home $10,000.00! Hope to see some of you there. We had a blast last year.

Last night I finally saw Batman Begins. I really loved it and would go so far as to say it was the best super hero film I have ever seen. I almost liked it better before he became Batman and it was all back story. Christian Bale made for an awesome Batman and portrayed the damaged and tortured soul quite well. My only two criticisms: The cowl really fit his face in a strange way, like it was almost too small. Also, the whole Katie Holmes speech at the end was kind of lame. "One day, maybe I will meet him again, la la la..." and all of that. Just poorly written... not a dig at her acting. The toys were dope for sure.

1. In the first show you told them all that they could come to you with questions. Have any of them, without being specific, requested your input, asked for help, pointers, direction, or opinion yet?

Yes, for sure, but I cannot get specific. Sometimes they take it, sometimes they don't. It's all good. We know that this job isn't something that can be taught and they understand that my voice is but one humble point of view.

2. Do you get nervous/anxious when they get ready to announce who is going to be eliminated?

Well, I don't find out until the band makes the choice live, so there is very little time to get all twisted up about it. The comedown, however, does sting a little bit for a while.

3. Are you going to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

For sure. At first I was apprehensive about it as I loved the original so much and Gene Wilder was absolutely the perfect Wonka, but since it is Johnny Depp, I'm gonna do it. I have faith in his artistic choices. Plus, he is easy on the eyes!

4. Hey Dave, What's going on with The Panic Channel while you're doing the show?

We are still waiting on the Benson mixes, finalizing the deal points, getting the new site all in order and readdressing some of the earlier versions of the music with Josh Abraham. More adding and tightening than anything else.

5. Dave did you tape the auditions i.e. the people who didn't make it? Will we see any shows with "She Bangs"-types or just misses?

No, we are not that kind of show. We are not about humiliation, we are about constructive helpful critiques and helping these kids realize their dreams.

I totally love the show--great work, Dave.

The show is great. I am sure that it is going to get harder and harder to eliminate people. And as said on the show, we will hear more from some of them.

Thank you for the review - wanted to see that - maybe that is what I will go see this weekend.

Have you gotten your car back yet?

LOVE Rockstar:INXS

Did you know Tara Slone used to front Joydrop?...amazing band, great lyrics, and Tara's voice was amazing. They never got the credit they deserved... I am rooting for her. Everyone is so talented.

I love that the show focus' on the positive.

Rock on!

Peace and Ruby Slippers!

Hey Dave! Do you plan on being in Vegas in October? I'm hoping to catch you playing poker or see your band playing! Booking my trip soon, so I was kind of hoping you'd know if you were doing a show then!

Hey Dave,
Will there be a new CFR Saturday/Tomorrow? I saw Carmen on a VH1 celebrity mugshots show, it was funny nothing bad was said about her pic, she did still look pretty. Thanks.

I feel the exact same way about The whole Willie Wonka remake! When the rumors first started, they were saying Nick Cage was supposed to play Willie! I almost cried. I think Nick Cage is the most over-rated actor on the planet. He would have most definitly ruined this movie that has made me smile most of my life! But I'm way more optomistic now that Mr. Depp (yummy) has taken the reigns! I am so excited to see it in IMAX! I'm keeping my fingers crossed! If anyone sees it before me, let me know!

Hey!!! That little film clip is nice, especially cause I had previously never seen pics, Dave, of you wearing those lovely wrist cuffs you have been sporting lately. I saw Craig Ferguson pointing to them, while you guys were off camera...In the words of Jack Nicholson's The Joker...Where do you get those wonderful toys???

Great interview on WMMS yesterday morning - especially when Christy said she didn't like the house band. I thought she was crazy too!
Devil's Rejects comes out soon - you plan on seeing it??

Hell yeah, Vegas baby, I would so like in on that.

Dave, when your recording an album, do you ever listen back at the frist couple of songs and think you could have done better with them? I allways feel like I learn so much when I'm recording.

DAVE: Plus, he is easy on the eyes!

BONITA: Amen brother!!!

Posted by: Bonita at July 15, 2005 12:44 PM

yeah...i'm glad it's depp AND burton doing the new wonka movie cause those two together are great...burton always adds his signature to movies so i'm sure it's going to be good. i can't wait to see it

i think christian bale is one of the best actors around...i find it SICK that he did the Machinist (in which he was a scant 120 lbs and he's over 6ft tall) and then like literally 2 months later had to put on enough weight to play batman...truly...see the movie the Machinist...just to see how versatile he is

much love to all

Did you guys do something at the Viper Room for this Rockstar show? I remember hearing something about it when I was down in LA a couple months ago.

Posted by: Amber at July 15, 2005 02:18 PM

Dave, I have one criticism about TNO and Strays...in my view they are too produced, almost too perfect...Is your new record going in that direction? I just love records that you can feel the vibe of the person playing the instruments, hear different tones and ways of recordîng the instruments...hopefully its a constructive criticism. What do you think?

Posted by: Jorge at July 15, 2005 02:58 PM

Hi Dave!

It just so happens, as Junebug mentioned, I will be celebrating my 8/25 BDay in Vegas...arriving on 8/26...on the off-chance I don't win the contest (rofl) do you know if spectators will be allowed at the Poker Tournament???

Well, Family...I am going to check out Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tonight with my Nephews, to kill time while waiting to purchase our Harry Potter books at Midnight...fun, fun, fun!!! Hope you each have a beautiful weekend!

Posted by: Cori at July 15, 2005 03:13 PM

Dave, although the show was about two weeks ago... did you see Pink Floyd at Live 8? What do you think about it? Were you exited to see those guys playing again...?
Also, thanks for the good vibe, it's always good to read stuff something which is not depressing or about something wrong or negative stuff....

Hey Dave...Where did you find such great singers? All of the contestants can blow, and this is just so unusual for reality t.v.

is there anyone Johnny Depp can't charm? :D

I'm two for two. Batman Begins was one I wanted to see. I saw it opening day, and I wish I could see it again (damn money).

I was apprehensive about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But everyone is in for a treat. I thought the movie was damn good, kind of like my reaction to Batman Begins, but different films. The changes in Charlie are substantial enough. Ebert was right when he described it as an acid trip (well, I've never tripped, but let me tell you it's pretty fucked up).

Posted by: Lesley at July 15, 2005 08:39 PM

Dave, Kudos to you and INXS to bring us a reality show that truly Rocks! I look forward to seeing the rest of the shows... truly some amazing talent up there... INXS will have a really tough choice when it comes down to the finalists.

Posted by: Sergio at July 15, 2005 08:45 PM

Just went to see Charlie and the CF. J.D. was nothing short of awesome. I too always trust his artistic decisions. He did not disappoint. It was a lot funnier than the first one and was appropriate for everyone and not too "dark" for the kids. Ya'll have to go.

Dave,

Do you remember playing a "wing-it" gig at Mac Author Park, in downtown Los Angeles for Rico Quivedo's father's charity event in 1983??? I don't remember the exact date we played on but what I do remember is you...and the circumstances that you most graciously played under. To this very day I am proud to have met you (I always smile inside cause you know, ...Who would believe that I, Todd Torres, once jammed with Dave Navarro?" Do you remember this time in your life?

The first time we met was at Rico's house for a simple rehearsal, you really hated the shit we were playing...ha-ha how the hell did we know you were...you? One thing I did know is that you had raw emotions, real and with an undeniable presence. You, in my mind, had much more depth than the average human; destiny is what it is for those who have arrived. That is for those who have arrived. The “here and now is what I remember about you. The “here and now, meaning I noticed how the moment was always recognized by your essence. The time to act does not concern reality, on the other hand one who reacts in the "here and now", with a little "Take DAT witcha, MUTHA FUCKA!!!" type of energy will not go unnoticed to those who can see. I have been able to see things of that nature as soon as curiosity invited itself into my head. I never shared with you what I thought as far as fortune telling type of shit, cause I don't believe in that crap. What I mean to say is what I can see is real and I recognize the "hear and now" but what's more is the "after". I often keep these instances to myself cause, who would believe this crock anyhow, but the right moment in time had presented itself and I just spoke it in an instant.

I was sitting on a picnic table behind the stage at Mac Author Park, tuning up my guitar. I saw you as you approached from the masses of people all around. You were not yourself, I didn't even know you but something kept introducing these flashes that in hindsight, were meant for you. These are what I call "Instances". Those “instances very comforting, very warm and loving were very determined and would not be denied at that moment in time. Seeing you coming my way with these kind of feelings kind of freaked me out in a funny way...ha-ha. As you got closer, the first thing you said to me was that your mother had been murdered. I did not know what to say so we just sat in silence for sometime. More instances kept flashing in my mind and I simply said, "Dave you are going to be very fortunate, large, the good kind vibes you know? Famous too!!" That's all I said to you at that moment in time, although many more instances were flashing through my mind, all good, all reassuring, nurturing as in terms of endearment, unconditional, like true love, matched by nothing other than a mother's undying love for her child. I put it all together and recognized the “here and now which is why I had no reservations about saying something most would take offense or dislike to. I said what I said, when I said it. For what ever it is worth, I am very happy for you and yours as you make your travel better than your arrival cause that is how you do it. I just wanted to know if you remember that moment in time just as I do...Thanks for you time.

Sincerely, a proud acquaintance from the past! (Or the "here and now"...ha-ha) Todd Torres

Hey Dave- nice work on the show!

Question- seeing a lot of Alice on your "recently played" itunes list made me wonder if you were ever involved with reaching out to Layne Staley at any time before he passed? As always, thanks for sharing with us fans.

"..these kids"

D-dogg, those "kids" are adults... the youngest contestant is 22.
Don't go sounding like a grandpa on us dude, you're not old! We might have to start calling you Uncle Dave. ;0)

Does Carmen like to watch movies? What's she up to these days?

Posted by: mortisha8 at July 16, 2005 12:00 AM

So, no Canadians' allowed in Vegas contest, eh? Too bad!

Posted by: Spencer at July 16, 2005 02:48 AM

Spencer, I don't think they allow Canadians cause all they do is fold all the time. Oh boy, that's funny. I'm gonna catch it now. I'm JUST KIDDING :)

Posted by: Lyn at July 16, 2005 05:11 AM

I've been wondering that as well... were there normal "auditions" or did you find people that were already in small bands and approach them? If it was a normal audition thing...WOW.... can't believe that many talented people came through, honestly i wasn't expecting it after all the american idol bullshit. Anyway, I can't wait to see charile and the chocolate factory. my only thing is, I wish people would quit comparing it to michael jackson... YUCK.. johnny's great and i'm sure it's a great movie!

I adored "Charlie"!!!

It is definitely not the movie of my childhood...it's different and fresh and incredibly funny....I cannot wait to see it again! Johnny Depp was brilliant, as always....there is certainly room in this world for both "Charlies"...this one does not replace the original at all, but it is very, very special.
