Friday...

Boss2Yesterday was a long day for me. I woke up at 5:00 AM to go do roughly 25 televised morning interviews. Morning shows mostly. Because of the day's events yesterday they were taped as it would have been way inappropriate to air news about an upcoming reality show on the day of such tragic proportions. They may run today, maybe Monday and maybe not at all. After the interviews I went over to the set of Rockstar for a full camera blocking rehearsal, no performances. The theater looks awesome. It's actually more of a big club than a TV set. It was a lot of fun as my job is really simple on performance shows. I just kind of get to watch the show, chime in when I want and pass the comments to the INXS guys. My real work on the show will take place during the clinics. These are the days when we take the contestants and give them a chance to work on a particular part of their craft, be it voice, stage presence or style. We don't attempt to teach anything, as this is the kind of a job that you either have "it" or you don't, but it is nice for them to be able to work on elements of their performance throughout the 13 weeks. Most auditions are like an hour in a rehearsal room, followed by, "Don't call us, we'll call you." These kids get a chance to vastly improve over the course of the show before the final decision is made.

What? You won't be doing your impression of Simon?

I wasn't going to watch this until I found out you were involved though, so I guess it was great casting.

Of course, I'm the typw who only watched American Idol auditions, and only to see the really awful crap.

Wait...Dave, you 'chime' in? Is that a Paula chime, a Randy chime, or a Simon chime?

Also, do you know if length of taping time is different for performance vs. results shows? My friend was telling me she went to American Idol taping and was there EIGHT hours...yikes, not so bad if we get the chance to sit behind YOU!!!

Is it possible to get a life-size version of those Boss pics? Is there a program that would do that? I want to be able to open any closet door in my house and have Dave standing there. That would rock!

Hi all,

Hope everyone is well today.

25 interviews... wow. I sure hope some of them air after all that hard work.

In any case, next week should be quite exciting. I'm looking forward to the show and seeing Dave... They couldn't have picked a better person for the job!

Happy Friday,

Dave, still unsure as to why you have put your name to this peice of s**t show. You cannot school or teach art & integrity. But I'm sure that you'll rock it. And, I guess,we gotta have at least one reason to watch it. I hope they feel honoured. x

Hey Dave, I was just reviewing TDDUP, episode 1... i noticed a track by Beck, Lost Cause playing when you were talking with your dad. I also noticed this song on the preshow playlist at the dragonfly. Is this one of your favorites?

Posted by: Dave Herrera at July 8, 2005 12:37 PM

Man, you spend all that time taping the interviews and they might not even be aired? I sure hope they will be!

As far as Rockstar INXS goes, I have to say I have a thing for Daphna and the canadian Tara Slone. Ty Taylor seems cool as heck.. how many black rockers do you see around?
With all that talent, it's going to be really hard to choose!
That seems like such a cool job for you, D-dogg to be guiding and mentoring the contestants.
Isn't Barry Squire working on Rockstar INXS? I have a class with him again this semester at MI and I remember him mentioning it.

Hey Dave cool pic, I'm glad someone explained what that Boss thingy was, here I was thinking you were posing for Hugo Boss cologne..DUH :)

Any guesstimate when TPC will play another show?

Q-
You know how Ryan Seacrest does that little, “Seacrest – out or whatever it is at the end of his show? Why don’t you do something to show your faithful 67’ers you know they’re watching?

Best of luck w/the show, Dave!
Love,
Sue

Hello Dave!
New CFR tomorrow? What is your take on the Deal girls- Kim and Kelly? I asked you once what your take was on the Butthole Surfers. Your response was something like 'ummmmmm love them comes to mind'.
Was curious then, what is your fav BHS song? You perfer the new or the old? Do they ever play gigs north of texas? Anyway, if you have a fav BHS song, maybe you could play it on CFR tomorrow or the next time you are there.
Completely different vein here but my 57 year old dad called me the other night to tell me you were on Celeb. Poker. I don't have digital cable so I missed it, but at least my dad knew who you were-God I love that guy!!! Such a rocker for an old fart!

Sounds like fun. We'll be watching here for sure.

Can't wait to see the show. My wife doesn't know you Dave and she saw her first commercial of INXS last night. Her comment when seeing you on camera, "Oh, now that dude's hot." Now I don't feel so bad for saying that about your wife. Word.

Yo Dave -

I actually auditioned for INXS up here in Seattle at the open call a few months back, just for kicks. It was a blast, but none of us hard rocking Seattle-ites made the cut, obviously. Alas, we are probably mostly too indie and weird up here in the 206. :) Anyway, looking fwd to INXS Rock Star. It's such a great bonus that you (and, uh, Brooke!) are hosting. Looks like you're playing a bit too in some kind of jam segment(s)? Best wishes...

Ciao,
Chris

Hi Dave,

Will any of the 25 interviews be shown on any of the daily gossip shows....."Extra", "ET Daily", "Access Hollywood", "Entertainment Tonight" or "The Insider"?

I've also noticed that the local WB affliate (where you were interviewed live last year by Emily Francis while promoting DDTAH).....has also been showing lots of pre-recorded interviews lately. I'll be on the look-out.

take care,
itanja

Posted by: itanja at July 8, 2005 03:18 PM

that's a lot of interviews, Dave! I've told some of the other student nurses I am studying with about RockStar and they didn't know who you were until I showed a picture on my cell phone and said you are married to Carmen Electra. they think you're pretty darn hot!

Its weird here in Britain at the moment. In between the news programmes, you get the weather reports saying "its going to be a fine weekend" but for some poor souls in London who've got friends and relatives missing it isn't going to be fine.

Cat - I am so glad for you that everything is alright with your family.

thank you to Matt on Tuesday's entry for letting me know where RockStar will be shown in the UK. I'll have to get someone to get it off VH1 cos I don't have it (only cheap, crappy Freeview!!), so I expect it'll be on TMF.

I can't wait for Rockstar to begin, it's going to be great to hear some rock on primetime tv.

Also, isn't it the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson? I love him ~ he's doing a great job with the show (at least every time I've seen it so far)

Dave*I agree, you need to seriously have a secret sign, pin or whatever for the "Agents" as Sue stated........... So are you going to grill the newbie's who play guitar on INXS and say hey you need to play the whole solo to three days to move to the next level? LOL J/K......Have a great weekend........

Take care....

Hey Dave what do you use for a practice amp? And what happened to the black prs you had in the guitar instructional video.

Posted by: joseph at July 9, 2005 12:59 AM

Dave,

do you have a roland jazz chorus for sell?

Posted by: Patrick at July 9, 2005 02:26 AM

Dave, what is the purpose of the INXS show, are they trying to find a Hutchence clone, or will the winner be picked on their own merit and talents? after the show is over, will it just be a one tour contract, or will we the winner be a permanent member of the band... how does Rhett and the rest of Michaels family feel about the show, and out of all the performers you have met so far, which one do you think will make the final cut? being a long time inxs fan, I can't help but think that the Farris brothers are doing this show for the betterment of their own careers.

Answer this or don't, it's entirely up 2 u.

Be safe be happy

Morning!

Talked to my sister last night and she told me that she can't wait to see Rock Star - she wasn't sure at first, but after sitting idle beside you in LA a few weeks ago, she said she had to watch.

Well this angel is about to spread her wings and fly for the day. It's my birthday and have a day of fun in the sun planned with my boy!

Bless All!

Hey,

If you haven't seen them, check out the pictures on IWON.com - it has five from the launch of Rokbar - one of the lovely Carmen Electra and one of that guy she's married too!

Great pics!

Posted by: Angel at July 9, 2005 07:37 AM

One of the reasons i'm excited about Rockstar INXS is the fact that a Kinks song will be performed. I love the Kinks! They were the first rock concert i went to. I'd love to see Rock and Roll Fantasy performed, but it will probably be one of their more popular songs. Great picture too - I used it for wallpaper on my computer at work but got in trouble - "not appropriate for a YMCA" Damn!

Looking good Dave. I read the posts on here & things seem to be becoming a little clearer. People are way into your body & image & lifestyle. I guess to some its pretty interesting. But I know that there are a few of us who remember you as a f**king vital artist, with something to offer. Really, what is there for us Jane's/Navarro lifers to connect with here? I think that something's getting lost. I have my theory's. But I'm sure you've heard it all before. It does break my heart. And I know that I'm not alone. Love & respect to you. But I crave just a sign that you still have something to offer the world of art & creativety. Yours till the end. Whatever that may be. x
