Episode 2 Tonight
Thank you for all your comments and feedback. Last night's show was a lot of fun to put together and do, but tonight is all about performance with the remaining 14. Some good song choices, but we will be left with not knowing who will get the ax. That will depend on the votes and the final call from INXS tomorrow night. Tonight we hear more feedback from the band about each performance. There is so much I wish I could discuss, but I simply cannot! Just have to tune in.

Dave here is the link for Perk's Blog:
http://www.rockstargohome.com/rockstar/celebblog.php
He started strong with this classic comment:
"Mig got away easy last night. Smells Like Teen Spirit? Don't go there bro. I mean, I don't sing that song even when I'm in my car alone!"
The real intriguing part of that- Perkins sings?

the show is AWESOME dave...you look fantastic...i heard you on 92.3 out here in NY/Long Island...around 5:00 pm EST (aka around 2 pm) your time...you sounded magnificent...as usual...keep up the great work!

Dave, saw the show and it is a good one. the girl singers are better than the guys. the guys have one great quality to watch and that is how they take themselves so serious. just cracks me up.

Last night's episode was a lot of fun to watch. That house band ripped, and the talent and enthusiasm coming from the contestants was amazing to see. I'm ready for Round 2 tonight!

I usually blow off these kind of reality shows. Not this one. There is some serious talent there. And I am curious when the egos are going to kick in. Bet your having a blast Dave! Enjoy!

Dave - hope you can answer this question about the show. How far in advance are the shows taped or have all of the shows been taped and you just get to sit back an watch it all unfold?
Posted by: Elise at July 12, 2005 10:49 AM
Marivic,
Thanks for answering my last night's question. I'll be in Venezuela in 6 days... so like you I'll miss the show. DAMN! anyway, I am excited to come visit your country-where about are you?
Dave, as usual always looking forward to seeing you but I am excited about the show. Perhaps Simon can learn a thing or two about this approach as Idol got boring for me season one, episode three.
Anyway- howdy to y'all in 6767 land!

Hey Dave-
What's the longest time span you "put down the guitar" for? I'm a long-time guitar player and in my past have set the guitar down for upwards to 9-12 months at a time (only plucking an accoustic for mins. at a time.)
And assuming you have - do you find your playing to have improved once picking it up again (I beleive they refer to it as "plateauing" to an improved level of playing?)
I ask as a fan who has always been highly inspired by the creativity and compsition of your playing; would love to know your approach towards keeping your playing fresh and avoiding the mechanical/automated rut we all can fall into as players.
Thx.

Whose house is "The Mansion" normally? Has Burnett called you with any overnights? I'm betting at LEAST a 7 rating, maybe as high as a 9. Who's doing sound at the Mayan and the house? Will there be other performances at other clubs around LA or is it all at the Mayan?
Posted by: Lyn at July 12, 2005 11:57 AM
OMG, last night's show RAWKED!!! Very astute comments, Dave. They're all lucky to have you on there. Far too many things to say about all the performers, but I will say that I agree with a comment above that most of the chicks really out-shined the guys. Great pic Dave, always stylin. On a side note, Brooke is undeniably HAWT, but in that pic, is it just me, or does she look like she was just sentenced to a day on The Rack/like she's the sister of Mr. Fantastic? No offense at all, the long-limbed Ms. Burke is mouth-watering in any case.
Cheers once again, Dave, on a job well done. Thanks!
Justin from NOLA
P.S. Any of those contestants could kick the s**t out of American 'Idle,' Bo Bice!!

Hey Dave, great job with the show! I am a drummer/musician (and a long time fan of yours) and have dealt with the rigors of "the audition" process. These contestants have some pressure on them however it's great to see that they have the opportunity to get feedback on their performances and are able to show their stuff for more than 10 minutes in order to potentially get the gig. YOU are a class act and totally badass (as usual). These contestants couldn't ask for a better mentor! Also glad to see that you can still be you in any media format. You are inspiration bro! Best of luck with the show, I will be tuned in for sure. P.S. - The "Trust NO One" CD continues to rock my iTunes heavy rotation play list! Thanks Dave!
Posted by: Doug at July 12, 2005 01:01 PM
nice pic.
how bummed was i that i had a callback last night and I FORGOT TO TAPE YOUR SHOW! i remembered this halfway through the audition. (the only consolation was that i got cast in a cool play.)
can't wait to see it tonight! peace out, bean sprout.
Posted by: luckyspinster at July 12, 2005 01:13 PM
Dave, I must be honest with you. In that picture above, there is just too much eye makeup, even for you! :o)
Posted by: americanzer0 at July 12, 2005 01:24 PM
Honestly? The singers weren't THAT amazing to me, in the sense that they didn't kick my ass. They were good, but some of them just weren't Rock singers. You need to have an edge to your voice and push it hard. For example, that first girl Jordis sounded like she belonged in a choir, which isn't bad, but it's not right for a Rock band.
Guys like Myles Kennedy and Lajon Witherspoon KICK YOUR ASS. I didn't hear anyone do that on Monday.
Posted by: Darren at July 12, 2005 02:30 PM
Dave
You were awesome last night as usual. I was a few minutes late getting to the TV but, other than the treat of you being on prime time TV, I almost had to question why I was really expending my time to watch this program. About 4 of the contestents (if that had any tallent). The rest, I had a really hard time controlling my gag reflex. And then I realized that this was the first performance and these people may have the pleasure of being mentored by someone seasoned and loaded with skill as yourself so my thoughts changed for the optomistic better and am looking forward to the outcome. Very curious to see any improvement from these rookies. BTW...INXS made a great choice on the elimination and you looked graciously compassionate towards her feelings.
Posted by: Chrissy at July 12, 2005 02:46 PM
Ahhh Dave, great show! I loved seeing you rock out with INXS. it was very cool. I love the fact that this show isn't poser-ish like American Idol...Bo Bice was just bad. The only one that could really sing was Constantine and he was kicked off at Number 6, but his band now has their CD out so it was reallty just a plug for his band, I'd think. Either way, GREAT SHOW! I laughed so hard when you held up the sign that said "What's Your Number?". Very Cool.
Peace Out, And Keep on Rockin'!
Be Well,
~Shannon~

i agree with the comment of like 12th person above, most of the male singers aren't very good. But I don't think the producers care to much about that though

Let's see what happens this time around. A few more minutes to go...
Posted by: Denise at July 12, 2005 06:50 PM
The chicks really do rock- that might be the edge inxs needs. Anyway after the opening scene I decided that the great twist to the show should be Dave Navarro gets to be the new lead singer! Wouldnt that shock everyone!
Posted by: Drea at July 12, 2005 06:51 PM
You looked quite hot, Dave. :) I'm watching it right now as i type this out. As i read these comments, it looks like these people actually know you. =/ that's cool. I live in canada...so yeah; i doubt i'll be able to see you ever.
Posted by: Bree at July 12, 2005 07:29 PM
Love the show - this is the first time I'm catching it. There's still two more singers to go, but I definitely have my favorite picked out. ******spoiler alert****** My only qualm is that she covered Nirvana and missed a verse, which no one seemed to notice. Maybe it's just because I'm a huge Nirvana fan and I know the lyrics backwards and forwards. Either way, liked her the best. Been thinking a while about a show like this - glad to actually see it!
Posted by: Theresa at July 12, 2005 07:50 PM
Hey Dave, you play KILLER air drums man.
Self taught?
Posted by: Zimphire at July 12, 2005 08:00 PM
Wow, what a great show. Allow me to put in my two cents:)
There were a lot of generics imo. The three blonde chicks all actually seemed really contrived. Wasn't impressed. Ty was great, but I could do without the falseto. Neal couldn't decide if he wanted to be Mick Jagger or Josh Todd.
Marty and Jordis... Wow. Marty reminded me a bit of Anthony, and really was intense. Jordis was like an up-to-date Linda Perry. Both were incredible.
So that's my take. I just wanted to say it with people who had some idea what i was talking about:)
Now... something that bugs me. Oddly enough, I find that you, (Dave) and I share MANY of the same opinions. But what is the deal with Nirvana? Since day one, I never saw anything spectacular about them. They were just another band to me, but why is it so many people think they did something that was so incredible? They didn't do anything at the time that Pearl Jam, JA, or a slew of other bands weren't doing. Why them?
Posted by: Zombee at July 12, 2005 08:04 PM
Hey Dave! Great show! I've got my 2 favs picked out. From your comments, maybe they have a chance to win! Do you find it hard to say nice things about the singers that obviously stink? I would have a hard time without laughing. Especially for the one who really should have had many more articles of clothing on. Had to shield my kids eyes on that one...just plain bad taste!
Posted by: Tammi at July 12, 2005 08:04 PM
When I grow up I wanna be Jordis.
Posted by: Bonita at July 12, 2005 08:04 PM
I know it's gotta be a decent show if I'm rocking back and forth and nodding my head to the songs (and pretty decent selections, btw).
I am pleased and will continue to watch.

Posted by: ..::Jess::.. at July 12, 2005 08:20 PM
Dave, there is so much talent on this show i don't know who to cote for! I really liked Jordis tonight, hard song and she tackled it. I think overall there are only 2 people i don't care for, but even they are excellent in one way or another. I can't wait to watch in the following weeks to see who actually wins. Will there be another season of Rockstar with a different band (of course)?
Get some rest!

Although, I´m really glad to hear it turned out that well. It has to do with the fact that Dave is hosting it. Jeeesus....you`re looking better and better every day, man...no "getting-closer-to-40-kind-of-midlife-crise coming up?

Hey Dave - you're such a hot hunk of man! As a long time fan of INXS I was angry that the boys were looking for someone to replace Michael - but after reluctantly watching the first two episodes, I'm plesantly surprised. There are at least two women and a couple of the guys that might actually fill the large shoes Michael left when he passed on. It still makes me sad knowing that he's gone. I hope the outcome of the show will enable the band to have many more years of great music.
Posted by: sharky the kid at July 13, 2005 12:02 AM
Yeah, I'd like to know more about the house band, too. Gotta give it up for them, they're pretty good. The singers are (approximately) half the show; the band backs their asses up.

I heard some figures on Monday's premiere, but don't know how accurate they are??? 5.7 MIL sets tuned in, but I think it took the overall ratings for Monday night. Not bad for a new show!

And yes, I know the Mayan is not a real club. I gave it to you guys and no one took it. Oh well. I'm not saying who I think should win (Neal) or who I see in the role yet (Neal) but I do have some gut feelings (Neal) and some intuition (Neal). I'd say overall, Mig was the most improved last night from Monday's show. Don't forget to vote (Neal) here: http://rockstar.msn.com/
Hmm, after cking the site, the link to vote is not up. I guess there's a time limit? Doesn't say. It should say what the voting hours are but it's not listed. Great. Oh well, when you can vote (Neal) be sure to do so (Neal).

Marty
Mig

Suzie, Tara & Wil.
Everyone else got at least 2 votes from me. Heather was the biggest surprise for me. She did great.
My final four is still: Brandon, Ty, Deanna & Daphna.
¿Is it me or is Jordis one of the hottest girls you have ever seen?
Dave, saw you on the Late Late Show last night. You were hilarious as always. I think that was the first time that I actually watched that show.

My question - How is Wil Seabrook on that show? He had a record deal with Maverick Records. Has a Web site that now mysteriously says, "The site will be unavailable for the next couple of months." Something about that isn't right.....

Great, fun interview on Craig Ferguson. I've always enjoyed his quirkiness.
Are you coming into NYC to promote the INXS show? Will you be doing Conan?
take care,

"My question - How is Wil Seabrook on that show? He had a record deal with Maverick Records."
Wil is absolutely dreadful, he's a Malibu Ken doll. Not rocker material at all, his constant posing for the ladies makes me retch!
Should have known he had something to do with Maverick Records. lol
That's Madonna's record label..the Ultimate Queen of Style Over Substance!
That sort of stylished presentation might have worked for her career, but it isn't going to help Wil.
Many can see he's basically a poseur & wannabe, his voice isn't distinctive enough either. Over & OUT.

Hi Jezebel!

Do the contestants have a chance to rehearse the songs with the house band prior to the show? Also, do they have certain songs prepared and rehearsed, or are all the performances just "off the cuff" and they have to have the entire INXS repitoire ready to go at any time?
Posted by: Deena at July 13, 2005 07:20 PM
I was wondering that myself. I was thinking that they must have a chance to rehearse, otherwise things could be a mess. ie forgotten lyrics or missing a band cue. Its nice that we have Dave here to give us the inside scoop! :)

DAVE,TONIGHT YOU SEEMED A LITTLE CREEPED OUT BY SOMETHING, YOU EYES TELL SUCH A TAIL..MAKES ME FEEL BAD,WISH THERE WAS SOMETHING I COULD DO!IN ANY CASE,ALWAYS LOVEN' WHAT YA DO.YOU WOULD LOOK HOT IN MUD AND A PAPER SACK, HONESTLY PEOPLE, IT WAS PINK AND BABY BLUE WITH SPARKLES... MAYBE SOMEONE NEEDS TO ADJUST THIER COLOR ON THEOR T.V.? JUST SOMETHINGS TO THINK ABOUT....
Posted by: Livingdeadchickakashellee at July 13, 2005 08:43 PM
Creeped out? Maybe he was just sad to see someone get booted. I'm sure Carmen is looking after him though :)
Posted by: AeroGem at July 13, 2005 09:24 PM
Sorry if this is a repetitive question...I'm still watching and don't want any spoilers!
Dave...having spent time with the contestants and, presumably getting to know and possibly like some of them...did you feel nervous at all when the the contestants with the lowest votes were announced?
Posted by: Cori at July 13, 2005 09:40 PM
Wow did Suzi ever come through tonight. Tara and Wil could have both gone....
Well that's it for Rockstar for 3 weeks for me. I have someone recording it for me while I am away.
Looked good tonight Dave, personally I think you look best when you aren't so polished!!!
Posted by: Tara at July 13, 2005 09:58 PM
I'm loving this show more and more. WTG Suzi! I loved how the band really responded to her performance. This show can only get better with each installment! Just too much fun.

Hi,
Loved the show. I just have one suggestion. Because I'm hard of hearing, and have no CC-enabled TV, I rely a lot on lip-reading. Could you remember not to bring the mike right on top of your lips - and remind the other hosts not to do so either? How Brook Burke holds her mike works really good.
Otherwise, I just love this show, it's awesome.
Posted by: Laurie Landry at July 13, 2005 10:10 PM
yeah.
i know you're both married.
but if i was you, my hands would eventually have to end up on brooke's tits and my tongue in her cooch.
remember, nothing lasts forever.
peace.

I missed tonight's episode! I am sooooo glad that Pretty Boy Wil is gone. I am not saying that he cannot sing. He just cannot rock. I am sure that a year from now he will be a huge MTV star.
Later,
Mike from NYC

So dave,
What's this about being overheard at your gym saying how you're not really into recording music anymore? Is there any truth in this?
Cheers.

100th post? IF so, yay for me!!
But seriously, just in case other post doesn't..you know...POST..
Dave, I just want to say that I am sorry for the plethora of woohoos last nite, (they were telling us to laugh and clap, but please no woohoos, ok, maybe a couple hoos..but, swriously, I ask you family, what ELSE was I to do?)
love,

Hey 6767ers (all you True Rockers),
Like a numbskull, I missed the show last night, because my computer's clock slowed down...so I was wondering if someone who recalls would be kind enough to post here which three received the fewest votes, and which the most votes (if they said). Yeah, someone had to go, and it was definitely Will, maybe he had more to give, like they said the night before, but who knows, you got to bring your game every time, son! DAVE - caught you on the Late Show, you were great dude, as always, I thought it was pretty funny that even a guy like Craig Ferguson was admitting he'd make out with you. Ha! Keep on rockin it brother! And I know you're busy with RockStar, and we're all crazed about it, but please don't forget to give us any TPC updates as they happen. Thanks.
cheers,
Justin
P.S. All the best to Carmen on her shoot. Wow, Carmen & Steve Martin..can't wait to see it!!
Posted by: Justin from New Orleans at July 14, 2005 02:57 AM
Awe Jez, missed it =( I was trying to remember, but the TV was being used for the purpose of playing some video game. If I had remembered in time I woulda kicked him off! Oh well, what's one little woohoo in a world of airplanes overhead and sirens in the night (or is that just here....)
Posted by: Abby at July 14, 2005 03:02 AM
I hope you guys release this on dvd, because Direct TV won't give CBS to me, the bastards. I did everything I could, I yelled, I screamed, I bribed, but it wasn't possible to get it. Damn. DVD time.

Goodmorning!
I really like how the criticism is constructive. You know, there is only one Simon, and we should be glad of that. My question is, as the field narrows, do you forsee becoming more critical?
Always,
me

Wil so did not deserve to be there for this particular genre. He's got his own thing going on, and he really was annoying me UNTIL>>>> his oh-so-gracious and professional exit! way to go out with class brotha! Mad respect goes out to you!!
I must say, I love this show, I would watch it even if Dave weren't involved! There are so many overly talented people here! and I can't wait to see the outcome! Plus Dave, three nights a week! yee friggin' (i'm from jerzee) ha!!!
love to all!

Checked out the show last night for the first time & I thought it was pretty good. I do have to say that I thought the band was going to send Tara packing. I thought Will worked the crowd pretty well. I was so happy for Suzi, I really thought she nailed the song too!! I was glad when they told her she was safe.
Dave are you having a good time doing the show. It was great hearing you give advice do you see a little of yourself in these kids. You know the Dave before he was huge looking for that break?
Posted by: Melissa at July 14, 2005 06:22 AM
dave----didnt get to watch the show last nite, but i dont know that my buddy marty kicked ass tues. nite. i was worried after his first performance, but he came back strong!! i truly think hes gonna get it. but anyways, you looked smokin as usual. keep up the good work sexpot!!!
Posted by: minx at July 14, 2005 07:20 AM
wait...fix...Marty DID get it on tues. nite. oops

Hi Dave -
My boyfriend had me watching the show last night, and I must admit - he sucked me into it! Things are looking good and I'm sure this'll be good for INXS too!! *Ironically enough - he had me show him my Carmen Electra Aerobic Striptease collection earlier in the night!!!*
Can't wait to see how this show progresses!!
Posted by: Jennifer at July 14, 2005 07:39 AM
I know this is late in coming, but I saw Billy Corgan on your playlist there - Got to see him at the Henry Fonda Tuesday night & he SO rocked it!! Glad to see you like him too :)
Posted by: Brandy at July 14, 2005 07:49 AM
Is it me or does Wil look like Woody Harrelson?
Posted by: Schwing at July 14, 2005 08:00 AM
"h well, what's one little woohoo in a world of airplanes overhead and sirens in the night (or is that just here....)"
Pretty much here in So. Cal Abby!
Posted by: Junebug at July 14, 2005 08:06 AM
he IS Woody Harrelson!
Posted by: sweetmelis at July 14, 2005 08:53 AM
No, Wil is not Woody.. HE'S GONE due to a repeated weak performance!!
Posted by: Tara at July 14, 2005 09:02 AM
So glad will's gone, he bothered me! Did he ever look up?
Posted by: sar_nicky at July 14, 2005 09:08 AM
Wil just seemed timid up there. He did not look comfortable at all. 'I Need you Tonight' could hardly be heard as he had the mic jammed into is teeth for the duration of the song.
As somebody stated earlier, he did leave with class.
Posted by: Tara at July 14, 2005 09:34 AM
Loved the INXS show! great song choices you guys picked. I was just disapointed 2 hot Canadian chicks from Toronto were in the bottom 3!
peace out,
Ryan
Posted by: Pinhead at July 14, 2005 09:47 AM
all I can say is I am glad will is gone...nice job INXS.. I mean when someone(especially when the someone is going to give you your chance of a lifetime!) tells you twice to work the whole room, that means the whole room and not just the chicks in front of you.

Anyone here going to rockstar.mns.com to read the boards there? There is one thread in particular under general discussion called 'NAVARRO MUST GO'. If you haven't, check it out. I think Dave's true role is yet to be revealed with the upcoming shows.
Less polish Dave but you are AB FAB honey!!!
Posted by: Tara at July 14, 2005 09:58 AM
I was very pleased to see Wil go but, I agree, he left with class...
Posted by: Cori at July 14, 2005 09:59 AM
What a borefest extravaganza this board has become. When is this show over?
Posted by: Dana at July 14, 2005 11:06 AM
you have anything more interesting to talk about?
Posted by: sweetmelis at July 14, 2005 11:30 AM
Hi all,
For Dana and Sweetmelis, I have placed my comments about the latest Rock Star on the TPC board. :)
I was very happy to see Dave on the other show... the Late Late Show. In reference to what "Fan 332..." said, I thought the light colors were a nice departure from the basic black. One does want a hint of color from time to time!
(I would tell the makeup artist to go a lil' easier on the face powder, but that's just me...)
I enjoyed the show. I was shocked that Craig F had to ask about Dave's mother, but I guess you can't expect hosts to know everything about their guests. All in all it was a cool, funny interview. Great that Dave called Craig on the attractive comment. When you look like Dave, I supposed that stuff is to be expected!
Anyhow, have a beautiful day, everyone.
Love,
-Denise

Oops... make that "suppose".
Posted by: Denise at July 14, 2005 12:47 PM
for the record....I have no problem talking about whatever show. It doesn't bore me at all! I was simply asking, if the conversation is boring you, bring up another topic.
Posted by: sweetmelis at July 14, 2005 12:52 PM
^^ Oops - I misunderstood the comment, sweetmelis. So sorry 'bout that!
(I will still probably put most of my INXS comments on the TPC board, b/c sometimes I'm too lazy to type the same thing twice. :) LOL )
Posted by: Denise at July 14, 2005 01:02 PM
No sweat! i can see how it was misconstrooed!
Posted by: sweetmelis at July 14, 2005 01:16 PM
"Is it me or does Wil look like Woody Harrelson?"
Yes, I was trying to figure out WHO 'Malibu Ken' resembled!
He was definitely not rocker material, as Mike from NYC said.....he'll probably be a big MTV (heartthrob) type of 'star' next year! Wil was NOT my cup of man tea. lol
"I was shocked that Craig F had to ask about Dave's mother, but I guess you can't expect hosts to know everything about their guests."
Yes, Denise, I was also a bit shocked that Craig asked.
Isn't that why Craig (and every TV host) has at least two research assistants....to help out with learning the background about each guest?
I do wonder what these assistants actually do, besides collect all those freebie promo items & other perks.
Their job is suppossed to be....reading the bios, gathering info & photos etc...especially if the shows host isn't all that familiar with their guests.
Conan seems to be the only host who is truly a fan of most of his guests! He seems familiar with most of his guests backgrounds & his enthusiasm shows through.

Hey Dave,
I am LOVIN the show! So many of those people are super talented! I was dead set against a female singer for INXS but I think it could work with someone like Jourdie (sp?)
Anyways, is there gonna be a DVD for this show??!!
