Elimination Time
Good morning! Early. Coffee. Today is another elimination on the show. It's always kind of dark to see someone go and it's very early in the game. I'm gonna be devastated by week six. Things are gonna heat up next week. It's hard to just come down on people and critique them without knowing what they truly have. Well, now we know. I think next week will be a bit "rougher" on the contestants, but way more helpful in terms of preparing one of them for this job. Someone asked how it sounds in the house. It sounds way different in the house than on TV. It is much more forgiving live. Mental note taken. I have been criticized by some for being too "flirty" with some of the female contestants. HAHA. My response is... Get over it. It's a rock show! I'm just kind of, "that way". Thanx for all your interest and support. As soon as I have a Panic Channel update, I will for sure bring it. There is a new video on the 6767TV of Glen Hughes' Soul Mover featuring Chad Smith and yours truly. I went to a big CBS party last night. Met Jennifer Love Hewitt. She was very sweet. I was this close to asking her to do the "What are you waiting for?" thing, but I figured it would probably be inappropriate. Brooke and the guys from INXS came down and we had some laughs, some diet cokes and rolled right outta there. We got a little family type thing going, which is awesome. My wife is still shooting her movie in Toronto. I sure do miss her. Honey, if you are reading this... I love you.

This season features repeat cameos by Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Last night, Jesus pulled up in a yellow Lamborghini (I believe) and the bumper sticker read...Know you know what I drive. (WWJD?!) GENIOUS!!!!!!!

There must be a different sound & vibe live versus TV- some comments were surprising both ways. Didn't see the show until this morning on Tivo, but it rocked. Some people stepped up and others had the paint peel a bit. I was out at Weezer concert last night, which was amazing(and taped for MTV).

I only got to see some of the show last night, but as far as the "too flirty" Pee-shah!! Never, makes me wish I could be up there just to get flirted with!! hee hee
I think you out a lot of these contestants at ease, and in my opinion might make it a little easier for them to give it what they got. You have a way of making people feel comfortable. That is only one way out of a thousand that you are an asset to the show!
You always make me smile!

Finally watched all three of last weeks shows and it's awesome. Even my wife and 12 year old boy are fans... I'm trying to teach him how to rock. Great show, we're having fun watching.

Dave--Flirting makes the world go round. The show kicks ass and the contestants are way more talented than anything I've seen in this genre.
Q: Do you think this sort of reality TV is a good way for people to actually have a bona fide rock 'n roll career?

I didn't meant to say that you "out" a lot of the contestants!! oops! I meant to write that you "PUT" them at ease! BIG DIFFERENCE!!!

Well good morning right back atcha!
I have to say that honestly, I knew about you in name only until this show. Since then I surfed around a bit and I think you are THE coolest rocker EVER! How great are you to have this site for your fans where you talk with us on the level! The more I see of you, the more I'm hooked. Carmen is a lucky lady and I hope she comes home to you soon.
Quick question:
Last night a few of the performers used thier new guitars on stage. I noticed INXS made a comment to one of them. Do you think that bothers INXS? I mean, since they're looking for a lead singer and they've already got thier guitarists...how do you think that is percieved? Just curious.
I love the positive tones on the show and the gentle critiques. I think the show is great and I love you in it!
Oh, and you're NOT too flirty. Of course, I'm not your wife, but I'm guessing Carmen isn't sweating anything! ;)

love the show Dave! way to firty?? no way those girls love it...Is it just me or is Jessica being juiced by them saying her stuff is the same every night...i want you to want me(cheap trick) and courtney love maybe have a little in common with being provocative songs but purple haze being catergorized with courtney love and cheap trick... thats where i draw the line and turn in my tickets to see the show. how could anyone be quiet for that!

Morning! another day at work (where i'm still not allowed to use your pic as background on my computer) Great show last night - my vote goes to Mig - only because Aerosmith is my ultimate favorite band and to do one of their songs and have me even think it was good is saying a lot (although i'm not sure he got all the words quite right?) Brandon did good doing Lynard Skynard, but i'm not sure he's right for INXS.
Does the band take into consideration that some of the contestants get "stuck" with the songs noone really wants?

I love the show. I had to miss it last night because my mom is all about watching "The Empire" and I sadly lack tivo. But I caught last week's show and my favorites so far are Marty and Jordis.
Random question: What compliment are you given most often?
Posted by: Crystal at July 20, 2005 07:54 AM
Hola Dave,
Show rocked last night! Should be interesting to see how the dynamics in the house change after JD's comments last night. I thought his performance was good, but that comment was uncalled for and made him look like a jackass. I wondered the same thing Tracy about the Guitars. Although perhaps that showed their versatility. When will Carmen be back?? Has to be hard to be apart so much!!

btw.. your not too flirty... it's great!

Flirty? Dave? How in the world can someone make that comparison? That's like saying the sun is bright or that the ocean is blue or that birds chirp and stuff. Pfft.
Car? Get it back yet? Shotgun, already been called once, just re-affirming. :)
Posted by: Lyn at July 20, 2005 08:08 AM
No freaking way are you too flirty! Every time you do that little flirt thing my crush on you intensifies.
And my 9 year old son thinks you're a god; so now we're having a course on the career of Dave Navarro. And, honestly, you seem to be such a fantastic person, I couldn't think of any other rock star I'd rather have him emulate.
Posted by: Annie at July 20, 2005 08:12 AM
Dave, how about giving the contestants Mountain Song as choice for one of their tunes? And here’s what makes this idea brilliant (at least in my mind) - you could play with the house band! If that song is still tied up with the Coors thing, any Jane’s song would do – Pig’s in Zen, Whores, maybe? Thanks.
Posted by: crazy bee at July 20, 2005 08:27 AM
Good Morning Dave!
Damn...I thought the show/decision would get easier....I started out with very set ideas about who was good and who was bad...then the ones I thought should go started to improve and some of the ones that made a good first impression started to lose their luster because they can't sing a variety of songs...very, very tough choices!!!! I agree about JD's comment...he has such a strong voice but he really makes himself look like an ass sometimes when he talks.
Do their attitudes play into the decision making process at all or is it just based on talent alone???
And, I also have to chime in on the "too much flirting" issue....NO WAY!!!! We love you Dave...don't ever stop being you!!!
Posted by: Cori at July 20, 2005 08:41 AM
Very quickly, as I have been way too busy lately....
We watched the show (as always!) last night, and my daughter and I are so jealous of the girls when you call them "sweetheart" and "honey"....*sigh* So flirt away, big guy--I am sure Carmen is not threatened at all!!!
The show is sooooooo addicting, and we are enjoying it as a family so much--thanks, Dave, for bringing us all in front of the TV to watch something we all love!!!

Great show again last night Dave. I was intrigued by your comment to Ty... trying to figure out if that was a compliment or not. My gut says it wasn't, I dunno.
I gotta tell you, I love how you adore your wife. Keep doing what you are doin' Dave. Awesome stuff!

Awww, I was thinking you were missing Carmen! I hope she won't be gone too much longer.
I was missing my boyfriend yesterday so I stopped by work and left a rose on his car.
It's going to suck to see someone go tonight, but it might bring me closer to getting the iPod or money on the rockstargohome.com site contest if I predicted correctly.
Also, this show is big exposure for all those involved and I'm sure those eliminated won't have a problem keeping their career going afterwards.

I've been poking around on some message boards a lil' bit, looking to see what people are saying about the show and specifically Dave. It's hilarious how people previously unfamiliar with him are all commenting on how he looks like a sexy version of the devil.

On letting the contestants go..I about turned blue watching last weeks shows when they dismissed the first two. I was thinking by week 12 it will be downright scary. It feels intense and I am not even there.
Maybe someone can answer this for me, Dave or others. If there is one song that you recorded Dave that you would say is your best, what is it? I have found some videos on Yahoo of Jane's Addiction (small handful). Okay, some here will say everything you have done is great, but I am not that familiar with your work and figured in spare time I would seek out to listen to some of it. Where to start?
Posted by: Stardreme at July 20, 2005 10:30 AM
I don't think you're too flirty with the girls, because what I wouldn't give to be flirted with by you... But sometimes it seems that the *only* comments you make to some of these girls is about them being hot, sexy, whatev. You and the guys from INXS have been really good about giving pointed, constructive criticism, so when one of the women gets up there, sings her ass off, and only hears about how hot she looked, it's kinda irritating. A little actual critiquing along with the flirting would give them something to work on, you know?
Of course, it might just be that Burnett's editors are leaving your more constructive remarks on the cutting room floor, but if that's the case then you should tell them to cut that shit out and be less sexist with the editing.
All of that said, however, I think this show is incredible - you're the perfect mentor for these performers to really grow on the show, and the guys from INXS are amazing, really awesome, thoughtful, funny guys.
Be sure to let the House Band know that a lot of the fans of this show really appreciate how great they are and how they're responsive to the diverse needs of the performers.
This show kicks ass. And you? I worship.

Heya Dave & all,
I agree with Sweetmelis, I would love to be up there getting the crowd energy, and of course to get a little flirty with Dave. Dave you might be a bit of a flirt but oh well, I bet you may help the contestants but I know if I was up there I think you actually are helping relax a bit. Thanks.

My original final 4 (Brandon, Daphna, Deanna & Ty) are still in the running. However, my new favorite now is Jordis. She has a great voice and looks great.

Hi, Dave. Congratulations on the show -- they couldn't have asked for a better host!
Here's my question: What's your take on Garry's comment that INXS is only considering people's performances in their decisions?
It seems to me that if they're looking for a real bandmate with whom to work closely for any length of time, they need to think about how they'll get along with this person. Unless, of course, they just plan to take him/her as a peon or something, kind of like Mark Wahlberg's character in the movie "Rock Star."

Last nights show was great. The things you said Dave were right on. The JD comment was perfect. If you want the job, you have to say it and mean it. I would hire someone with emotion and determination over creditials anyday. It works no matter what profession you are in. You sell yourself or go home. I read above that others didn't like his comment the other evening, but I would have hired them on the spot.
It's sad to see anyone eliminated, but it is all fair assessment. You did a good job with your comments to each of the three. There wasn't any flirting though....sad. Be yourself...I think everyone here seems to like your flirty ways. I think it adds to the show when you flirt....Whoever made the negative comment to you....poor dears, they are just too serious.

Neal was eliminated? :O NOOOOO! Damn, I liked him. Now, I'll be swearing at it when I watch on Sunday. Voice, voice, I want attitude, Mick Jagger, John Lydon.
Now, I'll have to cheer on Marty.
Sod'em if they can't deal with Dave's flirting.
Dave, will you call me honey?
Jez, check out Ty's bio. Yeah, he was in the cast. Check out ALL the bios. It gives you a great idea of where each singer is coming from, (and, ummm, who they know, name drop alert..Brian May) I was trying to keep my mouth shut about who I liked on there; but with Neal gone...I couldn't help opening it.
(NOOOOO!!!!) Who picks the songs for the contestants to sing? A Bryan Adam's song? It just doesn't fit? Next we'll have a Celine Dion song. INXS will never do a Bryan Adam's cover, or anything like it. Surely there are loads more great songs to choose for them to sing to show their versatility? And the way they have to choose out of those songs pinned up..that's just not a good way to do it. Okay, well otherwise...er..obviously, I'm still into it! :D And Dave, you are damn sexy in boas. I won't have you saying you look ridiculous! :P I read on the official website, that you said that.

Hey All,
My sister was in Kings Cross when this happened, she is okay but she is very freaked. She said that the police were shoving people and telling them to get away from where some broken glass was, but she didn't know where to go. There was so much chaos and she just kept thinking that she had to go get her daughter. Normally here trip would have taken 30 min but since everyone was taking cabs they had to share like 4 people to a cab. It took her 4 hrs to get home. She is still crying because of being so scared but also being happy she finally got to pick up her daughter. She also told me on the news over there is reporting a man ran up to a tube threw a bag in and started running away, but some passengers ran up and tackled him. Luckily his bomb malfunctioned.

How fun coming upon your blog.Inxs rock star is my husband and my new favorite summer t.v guilty pleasure. In response to you being "too flirty" all I have to say is you add so much too the show.Really I love watching you get into the performances and look forward to what you have to say.Tell your criticizers to lighten up.

Hey Dave,
Rockstar just started over here in the UK and I'm loving it!
Just curious..what was your favourite song from strays to play live?
Cheers.

Dave I read a little of the old entries at a time, it may take a while to catch up on them. A question I have come to mind really changes the subject on this string. Have you ever gone to group grief counseling for yourself or as someone that others could possibly identify with? I have known two people that were murdered, one being an ex-husband. There are times the hurt comes back, but I am fairly strong. I let go of it quickly. I have thought maybe it would have been better if I had gone at times. You seem to have worked your way through some tough events in your life and come through them well now. No one I know has dealt with what I went through a couple of years ago. They know it was hard on me, but they don't feel it like I did. Hard to relate. Anyway, I just wondered if you have ever sat with others, maybe with your experience try to help others come to terms with something of this nature?

Dave, too flirty?! No way. The ones who are saying that just don’t get it. Or are jealous. Dave, you have a way of making people comfortable, and feel like they are the only one in the room when you speak to them. It’s a gift. Use it!!
Love to all 67’ers, especially our over-the-pond friends. Stay safe.

Dave, I love you, you are the essence of what a true rocker should be. The show is great, I haven't missed one yet. My daughter is a fan too (hey what can I say, I've raised a kid with great taste). Too flirty, no way!!! It's sexy just to hear you call the ladies on the show "baby" and everyone knows that you are happily married -- it's just part of your style. I think we need to see more of YOU on the show, how about a little guitar work???
Keep it up, (baby) the show rocks!!!!

Have a nice day dave... I dunno, but the film "cheaper by the dozen 2" sounds a real clichee. But what can you from the name alone... Thumbs up!

hey dave, me and my boyfriend are up for a threesome, but we couldn't decide whether we should have you or Scotty Weiland. As I dont know how to ask him, are you up for it?

Hey Dave do you know how Courtney Love is doing? I read somewhere that she was taken to the hospital the other day after she nearly fainted.
She's in court today. I hope things go well.
