CFR Saturday

Another day off, kind of. Hitting the gym, taking a nap and then rolling down to Indie for CFR with Matt Sorum. Billy is out of town this week. Tomorrow is another performance taping for Rockstar. I am looking forward to see what songs the contestants do. Voting results from the performances will be revealed live on Wednesday, followed by another elimination.

PcrLast Saturday's CFR loaded now!

Do you know if they'll keep the same format throughout the show as in performance show/vote/elimination round with the bottom 3 while singing an INXS song?

How about a Dave cam backstage at INXS? You can show the video on 6767 TV.

Hi dave,

anyway dave i had a question.

if a few weeks ago Bob Geldof came up to you and asked would you get JA back for a one off live8 re-unnion for the best cause, what would you say?

Talking into account of the extra focus this would bring to the event.

Dave you have to answer this one.

oh and me and this other guy are now site admin over at kerbdog.com (the most underrated band inhistory)

They are truly the one of the best bands in the world.

Dave,

Do you remember playing a "wing-it" gig at Mac Author Park, in downtown Los Angeles for Rico Quivedo's father's charity event in 1983??? I don't remember the exact date we played on but what I do remember is you...and the circumstances that you most graciously played under. To this very day I am proud to have met you (I always smile inside cause you know, ...Who would believe that I, Todd Torres, once jammed with Dave Navarro?" Do you remember this time in your life?

The first time we met was at Rico's house for a simple rehearsal, you really hated the shit we were playing...ha-ha how the hell did we know you were...you? One thing I did know is that you had raw emotions, real and with an undeniable presence. You, in my mind, had much more depth than the average human; destiny is what it is for those who have arrived. That is for those who have arrived. The “here and now is what I remember about you. The “here and now, meaning I noticed how the moment was always recognized by your essence. The time to act does not concern reality, on the other hand one who reacts in the "here and now", with a little "Take DAT witcha, MUTHA FUCKA!!!" type of energy will not go unnoticed to those who can see. I have been able to see things of that nature as soon as curiosity invited itself into my head. I never shared with you what I thought as far as fortune telling type of shit, cause I don't believe in that crap. What I mean to say is what I can see is real and I recognize the "hear and now" but what's more is the "after". I often keep these instances to myself cause, who would believe this crock anyhow, but the right moment in time had presented itself and I just spoke it in an instant.

I was sitting on a picnic table behind the stage at Mac Author Park, tuning up my guitar. I saw you as you approached from the masses of people all around. You were not yourself, I didn't even know you but something kept introducing these flashes that in hindsight, were meant for you. These are what I call "Instances". Those “instances very comforting, very warm and loving were very determined and would not be denied at that moment in time. Seeing you coming my way with these kind of feelings kind of freaked me out in a funny way...ha-ha. As you got closer, the first thing you said to me was that your mother had been murdered. I did not know what to say so we just sat in silence for sometime. More instances kept flashing in my mind and I simply said, "Dave you are going to be very fortunate, large, the good kind vibes you know? Famous too!!" That's all I said to you at that moment in time, although many more instances were flashing through my mind, all good, all reassuring, nurturing as in terms of endearment, unconditional, like true love, matched by nothing other than a mother's undying love for her child. I put it all together and recognized the “here and now which is why I had no reservations about saying something most would take offense or dislike to. I said what I said, when I said it. For what ever it is worth, I am very happy for you and yours as you make your travel better than your arrival cause that is how you do it. I just wanted to know if you remember that moment in time just as I do...Thanks for your time.

Sincerely, a proud acquaintance from the past! (Or here and now...ha-ha) Todd Torres

Is there ever gonna be a DVD of your MTV show w/ Carmen?! I'd love to catch the episodes I missed out on! Thank you so much for taking the time to post on here so often!

Johnny Cash ROCKS, his version of Hurt made me cry, the whole cd, The Man Comes Around is awesome, he does a cover of Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode?), as well as Sting's I hung my head, there's something about buying a cd that you KNOW the artist knew would be his last, kind of the same reason I love Ray Charles' Genius Loves Company..

Anyway...DAVE!!! I am off to Sin City in the morning, can you believe I have NEVER been? you would think that would be a home away from home for a jezebel, oh well, I am determined to do three essential Vegas things

1. Walk the Strip (like a catwalk, baby!)
2. Play at least one hand of Poker with the boys.
3. Get married (what if I just hang out in front of the chapel with a cardboard sign that says Marry Me?..will that increase my chances?)

love to you, dear Dave, hope I can listen to CFR but, there is a fight tonight, must go where the men are!!!

Man, Dave. You should definitely see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. My friends kidnapped me yesterday for my birthday to see it, and I was apprehensive, but it blew me away. It helps that I love Johnny Depp to death. All the kids do wonderful jobs, and the story is amazing. It has backstory on Wonka threaded into it very well. Overall it was amazing. Go in with an open mind, and you will love it. There's always the old wonderful one there when you get home if you dislike it.

Posted by: Tara at July 16, 2005 06:16 PM

I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well last night! Being the biggest Willie Wonka fan, I'm not sure how I felt about it. If it were any one but J. Depp, I would have probably hated it. I think it missed the heart warming of the original. It was worth seeing, I guess the fact that I have conflicting feelings about it is a good thing. The one thing I got out of it was that it made the original all that more precious to me! But J.D. was great!

Anyway, I've been watching the show and I love the performers! They're all amazing. It must be great to witness it all live and give your opinion.

I must say I am obsessed with INXS. Just stumbled across this page from a friend. I think it's awesome that you take time to post everyday. It's great to see someone who has made it big, that hasn't forgotten their roots. You really are a true role model for my generation. I've been playing the guitar for two years and I get a little frustrated at times. Just wondering if you have any advice for people trying to learn.

Hey D & Fam, Happy week END *unfortunately*. Anyway, haven't had a chance to tell you how much I love "Rockstar". Never a reality show fan, this one has me. It's got my gf & whole family too. You're for sure the secret ingredient though. The show would be "pretty good" without you, but your knowledge, presence, and personality make it "awesome". You're the dakota fanning of reality tv. You're the show stealer! way to go bro!

(*BTW, couldn't agree more on 'Batman' & your itune's list is awesome. close to mine recently, just a bit more Audioslave for me, alot of Nirvana & Velvet Revolver, Neil Young, Bowie & TNO, other than that...we're vibing w/mucho Nail's & Chains! ha)

Posted by: AdRock at July 17, 2005 10:22 AM

Dave do the contestants have a pool of potential songs they might sing in the elimination round or do they get assigned a specific song "in case" each week? Do they get any practice time with the house band?

Posted by: Schwing at July 17, 2005 11:31 AM

When you go home and watch the show on TV do you ever think the performer sounds not as good or better than how you thought live? I know there is a sound quality difference hearing it live as opposed to TV mics...ever wanna change your critiques?

Dave~I've been watching Rockstar:INXS. It just started tonight on VH1. You're awesome as ever.
Did you know the guys from INXS well before Rockstar?
Were you a fan back in the 80's? I was one of those little teen girls at their concerts in NYC, like the Beacon Theater, underneath Michael Hutchence fainting. :D My sister and I were crazed fans. I'm way impressed with the singers that are auditioning for INXS; and surprised I guess that I like some of them a lot..being so hung up on them back in my teens and beyond.

Love and hugs

heres me question: whilst doing the show was there any song(s) that the contestants performed that you thought you'd like to do with Camp Freddy? Or was there any one of the hopeful that you'd like to sing with Camp Freddy? Ty looks awesome. he looks like a beefed up version of Angelo Moore!!

btw. top stuff getting your name as host and brooke's as co-host on the credits. hahahaha... amazing!

How about recreating that "shoot" for the new kids.
I know they would like it and probably remember more about it than they did from the mid 80's.

Hi Dave,
You may have given an answer to this some where already. If you could audition for any band (past or present) who would it be?

One comment about Rockstar INXS. I wouldn't want to be the person or persons to dismiss any of the people auditioning, so hats off to INXS for being able to do so (and the talented people auditioning) so publically. They have dismissed two so far with absolute grace and in such a positive manner. So far, it has not only been entertaining, but just watching the process is interesting.

Posted by: stardreme at July 18, 2005 03:42 AM

Dave do you still have all your old Ibanez guitars? The Nothing Shocking cover one, And the tele bodied one with the batman sticker on it?

Or where they destroyed during that Lolla concert?

I've been playing PRS guitars since 89 and thought the switch was wise. :)

Nothing wrong with Ibanez guitars BTW, not bashing them. They make excellent guitars. I have owned them, and would still own them if I had more money. :D

Can't wait to see what happens on the show this week... I must agree from your other blog - that the Katie Holmes speach of "maybe one day I'll see him again... la la la.." wasn't the greatest.

Also, I'm curious to know if your show with Carmen is going to come out on DVD. Due to higher education getting in the way, I always missed it, but what I did see, I loved!!

Have a good week!

Posted by: Simon at July 18, 2005 02:10 PM

Hey, Navarro fans. Writer and journalist Rodger Jacobs here. I just opened my new site, www.8763wonderland.com , ostensibly as a vehicle to promote my new true crime book, “Long Time Money and Lots of Cocaine, about the 1981 Wonderland murders.

The site has since morphed into what I like to think of as an L.A.-centric online tabloid with frequent daily updates and an emphasis on L.A. true crime news, adult industry news (such as my recent public spat with a certain porn director over $200), and books and literature. Recently, for instance, we’ve been keeping up with the deaths of Japanese porn star Yumika Hayashi and former model turned bounty hunter Domino Harvey.

I invite you over to have a look. Hope you enjoy.

Oh and for those of you asking about the selection process of Rockstar INXS- it was just like American Idol where they went to a bunch of cities and auditioned a wide variety of many many people. Unlike American Idol, CBS had a policy that every person that shows up must be given a chance to audition... which of course meant very long days for the talent producer and talent scouts.
(I know this because the talent producer was a guest speaker in one of my classes)

Maria, what I found odd about the Rockstar:INXS, was that I saw an ad here in the UK saying there were going to be UK auditions. I even posted about it a while back on the tpc board. I remember telling RP (hi RP!) that she maybe she'd be interested. And then suddenly it's on in the USA, with people that have auditioned in the USA. (I went and checked out their bios on the show's website) I know I wasn't imagining it, and the source was reliable. No big deal, just found it odd. Change of plan I guess.

Posted by: ylais at July 18, 2005 05:00 PM

Tonight's episode was pretty cool. "Peacockin'" has definitely been added to my vocabulary. :)

But JD definitely seems like the man to win this thing. Stage presence, personality, excellent vocal range, and a subtle style that seems suited for INXS. That kid's got a lot of talent. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Question for Dave: With the new show, recording of the TPC album, and CFR every weekend; is the Camp Freddy record being put on hold indefinitely? Just curious.

Hope all is well with everyone here. Stay cool!

Peace!
