Sunday 10

1. Do you plan on contributing anything to Perry's new project, The Satellite Party, or maybe the next Porno For Pyros record?

Let me consult the Magic 8 Ball... It says, "Outlook Not So Good"

2. How did you come up with playing your guitar with a vibrator? Did you see someone else do it first or was it just a spur of the moment type of thing?

We were in New Orleans in the 80's touring with Love and Rockets. Daniel Ash was using an Ebow at sound check and I just thought it would be funny to see how a vibrator would sound. I ran over to a sex shop, bought one and the rest is history.

3. I've seen pictures of you in Martial Law? If you were in an episode how about putting it up on 6767 TV so we can admire your acting?

Hmmm, let me thing about this for a second. Not a chance in hell!

4. Are there any other Indie 103.1 shows that you listen to on a regular basis? Congrats on the nomination!

Steve Jones has a great show 5 days a week in the afternoon.

5a. Dave did you ever get the Olsen Twin dolls?

No, and I am more than a little broken up about it.

5b. Hi Dave If you could have one gift for your birthday what would it be?

Olsen Twin dolls!

6. What are your thoughts of your experience as an Executive Producer?

Well, I cared a lot about that film but trying to get a great rate on an edit bay or a break in price on tape and transfers isn't really something I am suited for. Perhaps if there is ever something I care about that much, I'd think about it but for now, no thank you.

7. Threesomes. How do you feel about the gender split? Do you prefer the two girls and a guy, or the two guys and a girl?

That's like asking if I'd rather to go to Disneyland or to the dentist.

8. Do you workout when you're on the road traveling and look for hotels w/ gyms or do you just take a break?

Hotels with gyms. A must.

9. Dave what's your take on scientology?

I'm all for anything that provides some happiness and direction for people if they are into it. I don't really know much about Scientology, but the people I know who are into it seem to be happy. Check out The Fable. Interesting, to say the least, but it's really just something floating around the Internet. I'm not well versed in The Fable or in Scientology. I would like to know if there are aliens. Or should I say, I'd like confirmation of what I already believe.

10. How's the TPC record deal progressing?

Good. We start up on Tuesday to do some work with Josh Abraham who did the Velvet Revolver record.

PcrLast Saturday's CFR loaded now!

Dave,

How did you come up with playing your guitar with a vibrator? Did you see someone else do it first or was it just a spur of the moment type of thing? And how did you come to have one just laying around to decide to do it?

Thanks.

Most tv shows have grueling schedules that require 12-15 hours a day to tape just one show. Have the producers refined this process for you to where there's not too much hurry-up-and-wait or do you have to be at the mansion the standard 15 hrs or so?

I've had Don't Try This At Home sitting in my apartment since it came out, and never had the opportunity to read it. I went through it all last night and this morning, and I really liked it. Thanks for putting it out there.

Dave - when I first heard Jane's in say 89 I remember looking at the speakers nearly upside down thinking "what the fuck is with that bloke's voice". I almost couldn't listen to the band because Perry's voice particularly the off-key minor notes over the scale screwed me up. Of course like many things you're a bit dubious about first up of course you can get get to love it deeply.

So the simple question is - first time you heard Perry sing were you "cool" or "wtf" or somewhere in between?

Keep shinin' dude

Hey Dave, on the album-sleeve of The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, there is a section called "Organic Anti-Beat Box Band Party Vocals", and the names Dave & Perry are on that list... are you on that song?

Happy two days before your birthday to you....

Hey, so the question that I had for CFR before my cell went dead was.. Threesomes, how do you feel about the gender split? Do you prefer the two girls and a guy a la Wild Things, or the two guys and a girl a la Y Tu Mama Tambien? Family members, please weigh in as well!!

Also, how does the voting process work with the LA Weekly nominations? Is it a panel of judges, do readers of the paper have opportunity to vote?

and one more thing
The show is at the Henry Fonda theatre on June 14th. Any plans for you to attend? Will any Camp Freddy members be representing?

Queston Dave-

What are your thoughts on having been a member of a band that is considered by many to be "ground breaking"? I imagine that you will say that there are a lot of bands out there that deserve to be heard, are doing original things, etc. But the reality is that Jane's was/is a very influential band musically and, at the time, probably influenced the way record companies the business to a degree. What are your comments on this?

C'mon- don't be shy or PC! Have a kick ass birthday, Dave!

I got one thing to say about scientology. Understand, this is my own opinion. It's a cult that was started by a guy that amassed a huge fortune first as a science fiction writer, THEN as new age religious cult head. Like Dave said, more power to anything that helps folks, but keep in mind, Kirstie Alley was into it bigtime BEFORE all that weight gain. Remember THAT before you run out to buy any books by L. Ron Hubbard, the guy that wouldn't list his REAL first name. Oh, and the whole Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes thing, where Tom pretends to be straight, is a bit much to take coming from perhaps the most famous follower of this crap.
Ok! I'm done. Thanks!

Dave and gang,

Just a quick hello. Dave, thanks for the link about Scientology. It will make some good reading for a (hopefully) slow work day tomorrow!

From what I know so far, I gotta agree with Lyn. There's definitely something "fishy" and creepy about Scientology. Happiness and spiritual enlightenment should be everyone's God-given right, not something to buy and sell. But to each his own!

Good night,

Hey Dave!
They're talking about you and the blog over at theninhotline.net!

"Dave Navarro is a dirty blogger 08:50
From Dave Navarro's blog comes a Reznor heavy Q&A. Here's the more meaty question:

Fan: Over on the Foos' board, some people have been critical of them playing the show (MTV Movie Awards), saying they should have Trent's back (especially since Dave played drums on most of their new record) and not play for MTV since they wouldn't allow Trent to express himself the way he wanted.
DN: Look. You know I love NIN and Trent, but I really think he is a big boy and can fight his own battles. I totally support his right to do what he wants and express himself in any way he wants. (Thank God he does, his means of expression have certainly brought a lot into my life as a fan and listener.) For me, if the Foos want to play the show, it's all good. I'd like to see them. Frankly, I would have rather seen NIN, but since that is out of the question, Dave and the boys will be just fine. I love them both. Just my opinion, I doubt I'll even be able to catch the show at all.

There is another, well, meaty question if you follow the link. Thanks to Rat for passing this along."

"Lyn....ummm, are you saying Scientology makes you fat AND gay? I thought it just cured post partum depression."
LOL, no, not saying that at all. What I am saying is that it's a cult. No different than Jehovah's Witnesses or those people in the purple robes or those freaks at the airport. Well, they used to be at the airport. Remember those scenes in "Airplane" where Robert Stack keeps getting accosted by the weirdo groups and finally he just starts knocking mofos out, lol? That's who scientologists remind me of.
What a great movie. Think I'll re-rent it. It's SO damn silly, it's actually quite funny.

Hi all,

I hope everyone is well.

Uncle Creepy - Of course that was just a figure of speech, my friend. :) But I love your "rastafarian paganism" religion. THAT's the kind of ideology this world needs more of. LOL

Theresa - I always though Jason Lee was a cutie too! I too was a little disappointed to hear that he's one of the "pod people".

Jezzi - Interesting question you posed earlier. I've never seen Y Tu Mama Tambien, though I plan to someday. If I had to choose, I'm pretty certain I'd lean towards THAT scenario...

Now if only I could get Dave to change his mind... ;)

Seriously, though, I have a few more thoughts, sparked by listening to this week's CFR. I will post them separately in a lil' while... Gotta finish something up here.

Love,
-Denise

DISCLAIMER: I love everyone and I mean absolutely no offense by this post. I believe this to be the most appropriate place for this. The content comes from pure observation, speculation, and a desire to help others... to foster peace, love, harmony, and rock & roll for all.

DAVE:
I was listening to the CFR replay last night, and heard you guys joking around about it being an "off night" in terms of phone calls. Ditto for the previous week. I can't help but wonder if perhaps people are nervous/afriad to call in for fear of hitting a "tunnel," if you catch my drift.

Please realize that for some people, the idea of calling into a radio show with musicians that they respect and admire can be quite intimidating. Some have to muster up a LOT of guts just to dial. So these folks are not instantly going to be as articulate and poised as you and Billy. And they might not be hookers with mind-blowing "war stories". But that doesn't mean that they don't have something of value to add IF given the chance.

Again, I love you guys, I love CFR, and I understand your need to keep things moving along -- but perhaps you could exercise just a teensy-weensy bit more patience and compassion with listeners. You might be surprised at the interesting topics that could arise.

AND on a lighter note...

Re: The conversation about the Hamptons... It would be freaking awesome if Camp Freddy or Panic Channel could do a gig in the Hamptons this summer. That would draw quite an eclectic crowd... Celebrities, supermodels, moguls, socialites, AND the local riff-raff (of which I'm proudly a part, LOL), all coming together as one for the love of great music. A girl can dream. :)

Sincerely,
-Denise
