In Whores: An Oral Biography of Perry Farrell and Jane's Addiction it talks about how you struggled to stay clean between '02-03, and that Carmen gave you an Ultimatum to choose her or the drugs. What I wanted to know was if it was just H or did it involve coke too? I know these same old drug questions get over used, but when I read through the whole book I was suprised to learn that without the support of Carmen and Johnny you probably would have still been using. Also, what meds do you take now from getting the itch? Anyways, take care Dave and hope to hear more music from you and the boys

I'd also be curious to know about the struggle with drugs with carmen...cause i thought it was pretty much over with by 2000...so clarification on that would be cool.

And personally, i'm glad you joined teh RHCP cause as much as i like them...i think their best work was with you in the band...they had a much more developed sound that was fuller and more experimental and i think One Hot Minute ranks right up there with blood sugar sex magick. People are just reluctant to change...and you were a great change for the band!

Nice to know I'm not the only one.

1)I think we need an "ignore member" option. Would solve "the problem" real quick.
2)It's sad when an artist finally, does take time to correspond with his fan's, people have to flood the board with nonsense (which DN has to scan through to find legit post's, and questions). I really hope a few bad apples don't ruin the good thing we have here.

3)I haven't read "Whores" yet, but in regard's to the reported 'mandate' of "me or the drugs" from Carmen, well, Dave is an addict, and always will be. Based on that alone, he's going to have his bad day's and moment's where he'll crave. I imagine the temptation is increased when touring, so maybe that had something to do with it, if it's true, because no matter how long you're clean, if someone put's free smack (or whatever your drug of choice is) in front of you and you're an addict, it's going to be a nasty situation. And very uncomfortable. I don't know if this is all true or not (What was said in the book), but my main point being, why WOULDN'T Dave have his bad day's which will lead to craving's...not to mention the 3,000,000 other trigger's we (addicts) all have. So i wouldn't take that part of the book as meaning Dave had abandoned his commitment to sobriety, but it would be naive to think that it wouldn't occassionally rear it's ugly head in some way or another (getting a legitimate craving, can def. lead to some trouble & or misunderstanding's, and regrettable statement's/decisions/arguments). But it is likely few & far between. It's always a daily battle, but when thing's are good, you can put the sword down a bit. Sometime's you'll need to pick it back up and fight for a day or two though. Nature of addiction. Anyway, I'm sorry this is so long. I'm sure no one will read it *unfortunately*, because I'd like to think I have a good perspective on this aspect, and maybe D can defer having to constantly answer Drug ?'s, and read alot of Drug talk.
-One more thing...I also think it's kind of uncool to boast on here about your partying/drug intake over the last weekend, etc. We all know Dave read's most post's, so why remind him constantly about something he'd rather not think about more than he already does on his own. Beside's that, it's totally standard, lame, and cliche', what does your drug intake have to do with anyone on here, and why would we care?. Save it for your own blogs, IM's and eventually for your NA meeting's when you hit bottom. And as far as the Drug ?'s go, he's spoken quite candidly in his book, apparently in Whores, and many other interviews, and pretty much covered all the bases. Time to allow him to leave that in the past as much as possible, he certainly doesn't need people loading HIS blog with that garbage. Not trying to be his spokesman or anything, just someone who has an opinion who know's what it's like to be on that side of the fence... and It's really annoying to have other people reminding you of your drug past when your own mind is reminding you enough on it's own.
