Monday 5

1. Did you speak to any members of the band (NIN)? Did Twiggy join Camp Freddy for a song at all?

Yeah, I hung with Trent at Coldplay for a minute and Twiggy after the CF show. He wasn't able to play cause it was the same night as his NIN gig. I have to reiterate just how phenomenal they were. My all time favorite band.

2. So, was there REAL money involved? Or was it just for bragging rights?

Yeah, it was real this time. I was playing for the Carmen Electra Shoe Fund.

3. Can you give us a hint tomorrow of what you talked about at MusExpo? And why oh WHY was Larry King the moderator?

Well, Larry is just a great moderator. As for what we discussed, it was about the state of things in the industry right now and how to change them and get new artists and bands out there. I was the "artist" point of view. I was also representing Indie 103.1 to a degree. We talked about radio, programming, nurturing new music, touring and record companies. My main point is that we don't have a lack of talent out there, but a lack of faith within the industry. Mainly, people looking out for their jobs rather than looking for new and exciting music.

4. Can you name-drop any of the 50 losers...errr...I mean players....that had their booties kicked DN-style?

Well, there were the usual cast of celebrity players, Cantrell, Shannon Elizabeth, Bijou Phillips, The Masterson boys and a bunch of other actors that I recognized but don't personally know. What made this so much fun was that there were pros playing among us. Chip Jett, Antonio Esfandiari, David Williams, Jennifer Harman... The final heads up game was me against Evelyn Ng, who is a really well known and respected player. She was scary good (and very cool). In the final hand she went all in. I called with pocket kings. She had queen/jack. The funny thing is that the whole game I was late for sound check so I was a lot more reckless than I would have been had I the time. I think that worked to my advantage.

5. What's waiting for you on Tivo?

Law & Order, CSI, Battlestar Galactica, Intervention... Four hours of mindlessness.

Thanks for answering some questions for us Dave. Tomorrow night is Audioslave and i am SO excited! I have been waiting for this concert for a few months now. And lucky me gets to be the sober driver so i will remember every minute of the show! (i think that will definately be a first) Anyway.... Hope all is well with everyone.

Posted by: steelkitten at May 2, 2005 06:11 PM

D-dogg did you catch the Intervention with the girl that cut herself? That was trippy... she seemed like this happy bright funloving young girl but in reality she was self-destructive and self-loathing.
I missed the video game addicts one last night.

And I so know what you're saying with "a lack of faith within the industry. Mainly, people looking out for their jobs rather than looking for new and exciting music." I think that is right on the money especially in terms of A&R people since they have a lot of pressure to bring in the hits that will make $$$. So much great talent out there not being represented.. this is one of the reasons why I'm in the music business program at M.I. right now.

Bare with me folks, I'm using the school computers (and listening to someone play his acoustic guitar) since I'm not going to have internet access at home for a few days. I'm having a new roomate move in and I'm getting the bills changed over to my name.

Hi Dave,
My regards to you and your wife Carmen, Im so proud that a rocker won again! So how do you feel about the Jane's Addiction tribute band that plays around L.A."Nothing Shocks" and also if you'd ever go to see them? Bye the way Love the long hair and Carmen's blonde hair , Tell her to keep it lighter. See Ya
Yoli

Posted by: Yoli at May 2, 2005 06:33 PM

Hey Dave

Carmen was quoted in People that she wanted to have a baby... and that she was inspired by the news that Britney Spears was pregnant. Was she being serious that Britney inspired anything in her? She's a 1,000 times the woman Britney is and any baby you and Carmen would have is going to be way cuter.

Aye!! The Carmen Electra Shoe Fund!!! That's CLASSIC!!! Deena, we need to start one for you, sweetie!

I am so glad you got to speak your mind today about the spineless jellyfish mentality of record companies these days...all the more power to grassroots bands, like The Panic Channel, these A&R guys will rue the day, I'm telling you!!

What's your take on the Fiona Apple "release"? That girl has serious cahones!!!

Are you going to be catching any of the showcases this week? Nice chance to see what could be your future competition!

love to you!

Just wondering what you think of the Queens of The Stone Age. I've seen them live a couple times and they are tighter than shit although I kinda like their older stuff better.

"Baby needs a new pair of shoes". Sorry...that's some other casino game, huh. That's cool you got to test your skillz against some pros. Now you know!! We had some "mindlessness" at our house tonight, too. It was called "Meet the Fockers". Enjoyable in a relaxing-while-wasting-some-time sort of way.

So Dave, What do you think of "With Teeth"? I think it is amazing. What tracks stand out for you?

Posted by: thebends9 at May 2, 2005 08:21 PM

Awesome. Congratulations to Dave on winning! And I'm totally digging that Foreigner Double Vision t-shirt.

Dave, I also have a question (though I doubt you'll wanna answer it). Can you tell us how you came up with the concept of The Panic Channel's logo? To me, it looks like 2 crescent moons being torn apart by a dagger/cross. I'm sure I'm waaay off on that. Can you at least give us a clue? Thanks!

I must say that that is a primo Zeppelin shirt. I see it around a lotat school(I exchange nods with people who happen to be wearing it the same day as me.) It's good that Zeppelin is well represented in population.
What classic band do you think is not represented enough by today's youth/culture?

Thanks,

HI DAVE...EVERYONE!
THREE PART QUESTION...First we are about the same age and I was wondering when you were a teenaged boy what were you listening to? The usuals (for people our age)LOL like OZZY,NUGENT,ZEPPLIN,AC/DC,STONES...ETC.?
and second...were you basically able to listen to the music and then pick it up fairly quickly and play it on your own guitar? And third...what was the FIRST song you ever played from beginning to end?

AND SO IT BEGINS.....My hubby has now bought all three kids their own guitars and amps....I am giving up my garage for my 13 year old son and all his friends to make their band/hang out and jam...Dave tell me this is how you got started so I can feel better about having a garage/house full of boys,(and one girl..my daughter)playing what they call 'music' allll day...everyday...

ELECTRIC GUITAR.....200.00
AMP.................100.00
FIVE YEAR OLD PLAYING 'HIS VERSION' OF AC/DC'S 'TNT' ON THE ELECTRIC GUITAR SO HARD HE BROKE A STRING............PRICELESS

ANYONE GOT SOME TYLENOL????

Hi all!

QUESTION: Does anyone know if/when this Larry King show is going to air?

It sounds like a very interesting, important, necessary discussion. The music industry today seems to be all about playing it safe and making a quick buck -- rather than discovering, supporting, nurturing, and bringing out the best in artists. I would LOVE to hear what Dave and others have to say about this topic.

Tracy - So funny you mention your kids playing musical instruments. That's awesome (albeit noisy)! I was just telling my husband how, when we have children, I would love to have a family "music room" full of instruments. We had one growing up, and it was a BLAST. Having come from a very musical family, I know what a wonderful, enjoyable outlet music can be - both playing and listening. In fact, I think music is the main thing that has kept me relatively sane over the years! LOL

Love and music,
-Denise

Good to see ya there UC. Was wonderin' 'bout you. You know a couple of threads ago you called my name out, and I was thinking, "mmm, I should be so lucky". But then I read something that struck me odd - somethin 'bout playin' in the woods with knives! Whoah dude are you a bender too!! That would be quite interesting, but I'm actually more of a gun-toting kinda gal. So, what say we go play in the woods with your .45 instead, aye??

lookin' forward to your response! (and mine ;) hehe )

i am so glad NIN are back. i wish i'd been at coachella but i'm definitely going when they come to ny on 5/16!!

you guys should pick up the spin with trent on the cover. he and dave have a lot of parallels in terms of personality and experience.

he's also on the cover of revolver. i need to pick that one up!

i just can't wait to get the new record. face it- trent is the reason for manson, making bowie cool again, speaking the truth, masterful production of records and film scores- he's a true uncompromising original. and i want to fuck him. (who said that?)

Through a very reliable source, Dave's looong time guitar tech Phil has been putting the word out to many musicians that he needs a job. It appears that Dave's long time buddy at Capital Records, HATES the Panic Channel and refuses to sign them. They also put together a couple of corporate showcases in order to try to get signed from OTHER labels. The first one, nobody showed up for - including Capital, who is Dave's label. The second one, people were leaving in the middle of the set. What an appropriate name for the band! Yes, it is time to panic!

dave, is this true??

Hey got a question,
Was at your book signing in Jersey, and remember thinking how it must feel for you to have all these people come to see you, and of course purchase the book, but was curious in how does it feel to be noticed everywhere you go? And is it kinda eerie for people to just gawk at you as if you were an animal in the zoo?

Also my b-day is 7/7/77, cooler than yours! Ha ha!

How in the holy hell do you have the time, and inclination to answer questions from fans, and give a reduced version play by play of what goes on in your life? Are you really as marshmallow centered as I think you must be to be that connected to the people who buy your music, and support you and your career?

Anyway, I'm fasinated by how much you post.... gotta love cyberspace...

Cheers Mr. Rock God!

Based on your personal experiences and perhaps those of peers and friends, what advice would you have for someone whose reputation has suffered, due not only to his behaviour, but also because of reasons not under his control?

" First, if anyone wants to get into discussion, which I am all for, please do it at the community. I have very little time each day to read up on everyone and get to questions. When there are so many back and forth interactions going on, I find that I just skip through it all. I then miss legitimate questions and comments. "

I think this is Dave's way of saying we should talk to him, and not each other on his blog. Our "back and forth interactions" need to be done elsewhere. Please respect him and what he's asked of us. He's really being nice about it.

Dave any plans or conctact with MTV to display your (new) house on cribs. Good Panic channel promo, a poster here or there hahahahahahahha

Posted by: ThrwnDllars at May 4, 2005 10:38 AM

I read your from the artist's perspective and agree somewhat that people are worrying too much about the economy and jobs rather than checking out new music. From a listener's point of view, I would think that music would help free their minds during a difficult time. Maybe I'm old fashioned.
I also wonder what your thoughts are about shows like American Idol. Do you feel that takes away from the bands out there on tour trying to plug a new album the old fashioned way? As a listener, it seems the radio stations cater to the "Idols" more so than the artists who are doing it the hard way.
And since I am all rambley today, what do you think internet pirating is doing to the business?

dave, i just want to know where you got those jeans that you were rockin when you won the poker tourney.

nice and simple.

Posted by: rxs at May 4, 2005 11:20 AM

Dave is it actually true that you announced the splitting up of Jane's on the internet before actually telling Perry? I've heard this rumour but it can't be true can it? I can't imagine a badass guitarist player such as yourself being so selfish, tell all the doubters they're wrong!

Posted by: You'ns at May 4, 2005 11:48 AM

You'ns...if you click on the FAQ link to the right of this page, that will take you to White Pony's site...then click on the 6767 FAQ link...Dave's response about the break-up of Janes is the first question there.

Dave

I saw an ad with Perkster slamming the skins and it said Stephen Perkins of The Panic Channel in it. I'm wondering when you do a new spread (no pun intended) for your PRS model is it going to mention that or just who you are?

Oh and I just got my nipples peirced again and I found out the 3rd time is definitely not the charm.

Hi Dave, I heard somewhere that Carmen was slowly turning you around to listening to some of 'her music'. Just wondering if you had the same affect on her and if so what music does she like?

Also all, i bought NIN yesterday - ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!! I did the whole lockdown thing when i got home. I went in and locked myself in my theatre (as the room is sound-proof) and played the CD as loud as I could from start to finish. Just me and the music. It was great.

Therefore there are only 4 albums I'm really waiting for now.

1. CF
2. Audioslave
3. Foo Fighters
4. Coldplay

Capre Diam all.

Dang just checked out the "Get a Date with Carmen" it is now up to $17,400.00, Dave imagine you dont have to pay that for a date hehe. It really is for a good cause though. Tell Carmen she is the best everyday :).

Caught a striped bass outta the ocean yesterday, you ever go fishin Dave. You should take your panic friends on a charter. If youve done this before-you will understand. If you havent, you should try it and see what Im talkin about. What do you think of "Ween". Could Panic Channel ever slow down and do something fun like "Buenos Tardes Amigo". DO YOU OWN "CHOCOLATE AND CHEESE"????????
You need to hear "What Deaner Was Talkin About..."

"The sun comes up n' Im all washed out"

Posted by: Shawn at May 4, 2005 03:42 PM

Uncle Creepy, I only hated you before because I really thought you were someone else..like I said before *sooooo embarassed* (you don't know HOW much). You're alright in my book ;)

Yeah, I love being one with nature too. I like settin the woods on fire - helps clear out the underbrush ya know?? I'm a little firestarter - so BE CAREFUL!! But I only venture into the woods at dusk, that way no one can see the smoke in the sky, nor the fire in the green! It's an old Indian trick!!

A date, eh? Well, my my my, I guess I HAVE managed to get on your good side then...hmm, maybe I'll email you...and maybe I'll run the other way...ya never know with me!!

*shouts YAY!! I have a creepy friend for LIFE!!* (hehe)

JJ........piercings and tattoo's leave scar tissue........u mite think that the more times u pierce sumthing......that somehow the nerve endings will be damaged and u wont feel much.........thats not even remotely true as im sure ur all to aware based on ur 3rdtimes not a charm post........scar tissue actually increases sensativety in the nerve endings while basically turning what used to be soft skin.....into something more leathery known as a keloid......much harder to get thru......even with a brand new supersharp hollow needle.......the amount of force required to get thru this lump of scar tissue really traumatizes the area more than it should and by the time it go's thru the blockage........its pretty dull when it comes out the other side........if ya really wanna get hardcore.......u could have the scar tissue surgically removed with a scalpel.........but depending on how ur particular healing process go'z.......i would suggest either.......carry a bottle of bactine in ur pocky at all timez and never take those nip nakx out again.........or if its not healing well due to the over trauma.........i would take them out and let em heal.........you're body will let u know pretty quickly if its gonna accept or reject them.........almost always one heals quicker/better than the other........im thinking ur in store for problems with it.......

if u do take em out and let heal first.........if ur determined to have nip rings.......just have ur piercist do them furthur back either inside or behind the aeriola.............still painful az hell i wont lie 2 u..........but you'd be much better off repiercing them in an area that doesnt have previous scar tissue.............

same go'z 4 tattoos.........touchups and coverups hurt like davedamn muthafukn hell and then some..........all becuz of scartissue.........ive had coverups........years after somthin had healed........and hurt bout 20times more than it did the first tyme around................

jus my 2cents from your somewhat friendly neighborhood creepy piercist of 13yrs..........good luck........hit me up if u have any more piercing related questions.........that go'z 4 the rest of the 6767'erzz az well............much luv all........be well.........and channel your panic..............blessed be.... :)~

I ALSO HAVE A THING FOR BEIN IN THE WOODS AT NIGHT......I BRING A FLASHLIGHT JUST IN CASE........BUT ALMOST NEVER USE IT.......I MUCH PREFER LETTIN MY EYES ADJUST.......AND BE ONE WITH THE CREATURES OF THE NIGHT WITHOUT SCARIN THEM ALL AWAY..........YEARS AGO ME AND A FORMER TWEEKER BUDDY.........USTO HOP THE FENCE AT THE PARK TO THE WILDLYFE PRESERVE AFTER MIDNIGHT AND FISH TILL DAWN............WE SIMPLY CAUGHT AND RELEASED..........BUT THE BIGGEST FIGHTIN CATFISH AND BASS WERE IN THERE...........AS WELL AS THIS MUTANT CARP THAT HAD ESCAPED FROM THE JAPANESE GARDEN ACROSS THE LAKE.........HE WAS LIKE A SMALL TORPEDO.........MUTANT GOLDFISH BASICALLY...........THO THINKN BACK IF HE HAD ACTUALLY CHOMPED ON MY HOOK......HE OBVIOUSLY OUTWEIGHED BE........AND PROBLY WOULDDA PULLED MY DUMB ASS IN...........I KNOW........ITS DANGEROUS,RISKY,........AND WELL "AMINAL PRESERVE"........EVEN I KNOW THAT SHITES WRONG......ITS LIKE A 500 DOLLAR FINE PER FISH IF U GET CAUGHT.........FLASHLIGHTS ALERT THE RANGERS........BUT IF UR QUIET AND JUST CREEPY THRU THE DARK........MAKES FOR A FUN EVENING.........

HEY DAVE......WHATZ UR TAKE ON THE WHOLE PYRO THING?.......DO U LIKE TO BURN SHITE TOO?.......DO FLAMES SOOTHE AND CALM U INNA TRANCELIKE WAY........OR DO U JUST LIKE THE CONVENIANCE OF THE DISPOSABLE LIGHTER?.........SNICKER...........BURN BAYBEE.....BURN...BURN..........

Nine Inch Nails - Burn
----------------------
This world rejects me
This world threw me away
This world never gave me a chance
This world gonna have to pay

Well I don't believe in your institutions
I did what you wanted me to
I'm like the cancer in your system
I've got a little surprise for you

Something inside of me
Has opened up its eyes
Why did you put it there?
Did you not realize
This thing inside of me
It screams the loudest sound
Sometimes I think I could

Burn

I look down from at where you're standing
Flock of sheep out on display
With all your lies bumped up around you
I can take it all away

Something inside of me
Has opened up its eyes
Why did you put it there?
Did you not realize
Something inside of me
It screams the loudest sound
Sometimes I think I could

I'm gonna burn this whole world down

I never was a part of you

Burn

I was a soldier
I am corruption
I am the agent
Of your destruction
I am perversion
Sick with desire
I am your future
Swallowed up in fire

MUUUUUHHHHAAHAHAHAHAHA........CY'ALL IN HELL.......I'LL BE THE ONE SURFIN THE LAKE OF FIRE AND LIGHTIN HIZ BONG ONNA WAVE :)~

Way to be the adult with "growupalready" Creeps! Make sure to check your mail today and tomorrow! I dont understand "myspace" very well, if anyone can help, please email rather than post it here.

To Dave: I went to three record store for your solo album "Trust No One". No luck, so Im gonna order it I guess. Im not sure what to expect. Is it a heavy album, or is it mellow? (Anybody?) Ended up buying a Nirvana show from UK, and Brian Wilsons "Smile" which I really N'Joyed on the ride home. HAve you heard the album, met Brian, and what thoughts do you have on Beach Boys/vocal layering/style n techniques?

I think although Brian felt the shadow of Phil Spector for so much of his life, he should be so proud to be producing while Phil spends time with legal problems n murder allegations.

Happy Days!
