Memorial 10
1. Would Jane's have been the groundbreaking act that it was without the drugs?
It's hard to say, there were a lot of factors going on. I would attribute the success of the band to the time, our heads, where music was, our age and our personal circumstances. When we got going, none of us were really that into the whole drug counter culture. Honestly, we wrote most of our catalogue way back when. Were drugs a factor? I'm certain they were, but more in the death of things than in the birthing of things. We were dabblers, drinkers and stoners, but when we embraced the needle, that's when things really fell apart. Keep in mind that this is my experience alone, the other guys may have their own recollections that may or may not differ.
2. Do you believe if a couple has a child and don't get along all the time, they should split? Or stay together for the child's sake.
Honestly, not having a child, I am really unable to give you an educated answer. When my parents split, it was hard for sure, but they were both very much in my life and they remained friends in order to not burden me with their shit. That definitely made things much easier.
3. I was reading some linear notes online about kettle whistle and it says that you play guitars and bongos!
I think I recall something about that, but I honestly don't know for sure. I might have if Perk wasn't around that night, but I can't say definitively.
4. Dave who is this 'teenage' son Carmen talks about it in out takes?
Our live in assistant, Richard.
5. Recently there's been a lot of hatred as people are always discouraging me from pursuing my music.
Well, put it this way, what if someone said to Picasso, "What the hell is that supposed to be?" Do your art man, enjoy the process. Ultimately, it is your heart on the line and your ideas. I say, just do what makes you happy and feel fulfilled.
6. Understand that I do think you are the dog's but do you look back on some of the things you've said in the past and think, man I was talking bollocks there!
Do I? I don't know. Not really. I'm sure you can pull a million things that I have said, done or thought and I would now say, "Wow, what the hell was I thinking?" But then again, I don't know anybody that isn't true for. Just part of life, growing and evolving. I think some stuff would make me laugh more than anything. Par for the course of life, so to speak...
7. Can you tell me if the canceled show of Jane´s in Madrid in the European tour 03, was because of problems in the band?
I believe that was canceled due to an illness in the band at the time. Nothing big. Sorry about that, mate.
8. Hey, was it me or were u in a really bad mood in "punk'd"?
Yeah, I had a cold and was on cold medicine that day. SO not into "chatting" with the driver!
9. Who's your favorite musician of all time?
Hard to say... But lately it has been Trent Reznor or Jimmy Page.
10. How many weeks will Rock Star run?
I believe 13 weeks, 3 episodes a week, for a total of 39 episodes.

Dave,
¿How does one become your live-in assistant? ¿Do you need a resume?
Later,

Dave
Are there any up-coming bands that have caught your ears that have made you think are on to something new and intresting with the rock genre.

Hello Dave, hope you are having a nice holiday!
Where are the spicy questions, people?
here's one..On CFR Saturday, you were offering the government access to your porn viewing habits. What kind of porn really floats your boat? Girl on girl, bondage, s/m, or are you a fan of traditional, what's your favorite classic, Deep Throat, or Debbie Does Dallas?
Me, I could never get past the terrible music, the red filter they seemed to be shot through, or the fact the girl always looked like she was in pain, but that was years ago, maybe the quality has changed since then..
Anyway, hoping to see you guys live in the studio soon, let me know,
love
jezzi(still a has been...hell yeah!!)

Dave I know you Stephen and Eric got screwed on the publishing rights for the albums you had signed with Warner Bros. But was things more equally distributed with the very first album on Tripple X ???? then turn bad or was i pretty shit to begin with
I just finished reading the book Whores. It's fucking amazing. I got into Janes really late so this tied up loose ends and informed me on things I didn't know

Ohhh!! I have a question!
Is there any kind of musical preformance you WON'T do? Like I mean is there any kind of music that you would refuse to put the sound of your guitar to?
Be Well,

high dave
i read that u started piano at an early age (me2high5) was that something your parents saw in you that they encouraged or was that totally their idea? do u think thats when the musical bugg bit ya or was there another factor bigger than hedrix that grabbed you by the ballsz and said "one day u will be a rock god".
Posted by: dast poopinschtein at May 30, 2005 12:53 PM
hey everyone.
I have a question for Dave. Who's your favourite musician of all time and how have they influenced your playing styles?
I have just seen someone selling a PRS Dave Navarro signature guitar for about £2,245 ($5,000 ?) on eBay. If I ever did buy it, I'd prefer the money to go to MAP MusiCares Fund than to line the pocket of some greedy seller.
Peace everyone!

As for question 2, I must speak as a child of who was in this situation. Parents shouldn't stay together just for the children. The children, regardless of how old they are, will notice that something is going on and that is not a good experience for any child to go through. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING though is how the parents react once they are separated and make it clear to your children that their parents separated because of something that went on between the two of you and didn't involve the children whatsoever. The worst thing is for children to take sides with one parent of a separation. Regardless of the reason for separation (unless it was something drastic ie. Daddy tried to kill Mummy), make sure you encourage the children to spend time with your ex-spouse. If you two both show that life can go on harmoniously, then life for the children will be much easier.

I heard that NIN and QOTSA are doing a fall tour and are looking for a third band. What are the chances that TPC could be that band?
Hope everyone takes a moment to pause and be thankful for those who have served our country so we could have the freedom that we enjoy and often take for granted.

Tomorrow Carmen and I are going to be in a fashion show to help raise money for the treatment of MS. We both have people close to us who suffer from the disease
I would like to tell Mr. & Mrs. Navarro, Thank You for supporting MS research. I am one of the millions whom suffers from MS and I'm trying to make a difference. I hope to help all of us with the finding of a cure. I was wondering if the Navarro's would kindly donate an autographed picture dedicated to MSRF which is the non-profit organization I run. If you would like, you can visit our website under the artist support section to view many of the artists whom support out cause. It would be an honor to have Mr. & Mrs. Navarro be part of this.

i looooooved the outtakes from the show that are being shown in 6767tv...they're HILARIOUS. I love carmen's impression of dave wandering around wilshire "out of his mind" as carmen said. I'm glad things are better and seem to be getting better.
and if it's true that NIN and QoTSA are touring together...fuck i better get tix for that...amaaazzziiinnng. Much love to everyone!!

Hey Dave,
I had a friend in high school kill herself over a boy, the sad thing was I was going to visit her later that day at her house but she took her life. I just had recent thoughts about losing such great people and recently my husband and I listening to 'Alice in Chains' and we were saying how Layne Staley was a really great singer and how sad it is to lose such a great singer and writer.
I was wondering, Did you ever have thoughts about someone who you thought you could have helped or you have helped even?

I recall you favoring Starbucks French Roast (too strong for me!), but are you a morning, mid-day, evening, or all the above coffee drinker? Just curious, I try to switch to tea in the evening when mellowing out, but sometimes prefer the extra coffee boost if I'm pulling a late night, such as I'm doing right now...
Any word on TPC buckles (i.e., the one you showed us a sneak preview back on 10 FEB)? Man, I'd love to sport one of them bad boys.
Cheers,

You've been on a roll with question answering lately.
I live in Connecticut. Will I EVER get to see you in ANY shows in any of your bands or solo work?
Posted by: Dan B at May 30, 2005 08:40 PM
Here's something kinda interesting:
Your man Trent decided to not play the MTV Movie Awards because the powers at be there would not allow NIN to play in front of a picture of George Bush. The Foo Fighters have stepped in and will play the show instead.
Over on the Foos' board, some people have been critical of them playing the show, saying they should have Trent's back (especially since Dave played drums on most of their new record) and not play for MTV since they wouldn't allow Trent to express himself the way he wanted. The way I see it, it's a chance for the Foos to play a new song on a show that will be broadcast just days before their new (and fucking incredible) new double album comes out, and there's nothing political behind it...it's just regular ol' promotion.
So, what would you do, Dave? Would you not play the show because of how they treated the NIN situation (for the record, they asked Trent to play without the picture, because they still wanted NIN to play; Trent said no and removed the band from the show), or would you go ahead and rock the house?
Looking forward to your reply...you can see the argument for yourself in the "General Foo" area of the FF postboard.

I alway's assumed that was a "dick reference" for one of Carmen's dildo's.(always wondered how many a hot celeb would own being married to you). Dave...do you ever find it intrusive having a "live in assistant"? Does he pop up at the wrong times...like when you're busy masturbating or having sex???
Posted by: Cori at May 31, 2005 01:34 PM
Dave, do you have any guilt over the way you broke it off with one of your early girlfriends (the one you wrote about in your book) - the one that you found out was cheating on you? and subsequently you felt the need to get back at her by bringing out all kinds of gifts etc. that you had planned on giving to her and then you told her that you were done, it was over, etc., and got up and left her sitting there with presents strewn around with her crying. I mean, now that you're in a happy place in your life, secure, and successful, and older/wiser - do you wish you could go back and change a few things including that scene? I mean, when I look back at my own life, there are things that I definitely would change, but I also understand that when we are younger that it is harder to excercise forgiveness, patience, understanding, and downright martyr-heroics.
Of course I would understand if you don't want to address this question - I'm sure it's of a sensitive nature. And I do apologize if it's too close to your skin, it's just that I have a hard time understanding how today's "Dave" could be that ruthless? Seeing how I am a woman, it's definitely one of the more "darker" stories from your book that I'm having trouble accepting. I'm guessing you have really changed since then?? If so, then more power to ya and I hope more guys become as wonderful as you seem to presently be in this current day and time.
Stay sweet.
:)

It's funny... a guy I dated when I was that age did a VERY similar thing to me. However, we weren't that serious, and I didn't cheat on him. I just wasn't in love and simply wanted my freedom at 14.
