Sunday
Last Saturday's CFR loaded now!
Last night's CFR is up. What a great show. We had Ozzy himself come in for an hour or so and play some unreleased cover tunes he has recorded and just chill for a while. Today is all about the R&R over here. True crime television programming, a hair cut, a nap, maybe even that pizza I always talk about.
1. Velvet revolver do it......and now audioslave have done it.......r panic channel gonna be playing any songs from their past? A Jane's addiction song?
That is highly doubtful.
2. Do you regret not finishing high school?
Not at all.
3. I read somewhere that you are into mntn. biking-true?
Untrue.
4. Just wondering ... when you get your hair cut do you have someone come to your house to do it? What brand of hair products do you use?
Yes, they do. I really do not know what they use.
5. Do you ever miss writing movie or fashion reviews? I'd enjoy reading them again
Yeah, in fact Johnny and I have been discussing starting that up again!
6. How do we get tickets for the Dragonfly show?
It really is a first come first serve thing, but there is no need to get there hours ahead of time. It's always pretty comfortable there.
7. Dave is it cool if I feature you in one of my online comics?
Sure, share the link.
8. You still on the patch yo?
Today is day two off that thing. Kind of going through it all over again.
9. Is The Panic Channel recording everything directly to hard disk? Did you use any tape at all?
All to disk. It's gonna end up digital in the end anyway...
10. Also, as a non-drug & non-alcohol consumer, is it strange to have a song of yours so closely commercially related?
I got nothin against beer, I just can't drink it! Many can enjoy a drink without abusing themselves or others... and more power to them, I just aint one of those types! I break out in hand cuffs.

Good Morning Dave! Looking forward to hearing Ozzy on CFR...what a treat :D
One question for the day: Is there any certain song from your past that, when you hear it today you feel that exact same feeling as when you first heard it? If yes, what song was it?
Have a great Sunday!

Dave- great show last night! I laughed my ass off. Ozzy is one in a million.
My question is this- in his book, Anthony Kedis talks about the importance of attending meetings to to this day to help him stay off drugs. Do you attend meetings regularly?
Thanks again for sharing your projects with us. Enjoy the Dominoes!

Dave,
I know I'm not alone in appreciating the opportunity to post and be able to interact even in an asychronous way with you!!
My question is: I'd imagine that you've had different emotions with the completion of each of the albums you've done, but has the finalizing of the TPC album felt different? Do you ever get depressed when it's over and think "what to do next"?

Hey Dave!
I just wanted to say that I really admire your 'life philosophy' if you will, and I have two questions!
What are Canadian venues like versus American venues?
And where's your favorite place to play?
Thanks!

Hey Dave,
Really loved that slow song on the video you posted recently. I loved the guitar solo bit - you are quite a good guitar player!
Your guitar playing on Decon and OHM was very trippy and experimental. That's seems to be what makes your playing distinctive. Will that be your approach playing for TPC or will the record be more tradtional rock?

Is The Panic Channel recording everything directly to hard disk?
Did you use any tape at all?
For example, Rick Ruben likes to record drums onto 2" tape, to get that natural analog tape compression for the rhythm section.
What program are you guys running?
Pro Tools?
Logic?

Couple questions: What charitys do you support? Do you think its important for America to begin to use more economic means of transportation(hybrid autos)?
Would you consider yourself to have ideals of a hippie, or a more hardcore fuk-it/lets burn shit personality!
Did you start the Lord of The Rings? Also-do you have any interesting hobbies-skiing,snowboarding, hiking, skateboarding, extreme sports ECT.

With all of the commotion surrounding this commercial, I was wondering, as a musician or songwriter, how does a process of contributing a song to an ad or movie work.
Also, as a non-drug & non-alcohol consumer, is it strange to have a song of yours so closely commercially related?
Thanks if you have the time brother,
BTW, nice shredding in the clip, it leaves me with hope for the new sound.

Dave,
This question comes from the book THE DIRT by Motley Crue. ¿Have you ever snorted a line of ants the way OZZY did?
MOTLEY CRUE have said that they thought OZZY was the craziest person they ever met. You have to be pretty crazy if THE CRUE thinks that you're crazy.
Later,
Mike
PS - When I tried calling CFR the past couple of weeks, I have been unable to get through. ¿Is it because I am calling from NYC, a 718 area code?

Hey Guys,
It's been a while since I've posted, but I have been lurking. Mostly I've just been really disappointed by the non-Dave drama going on here. When I first started reading and posting on this list I felt as if we were just a group of people who were lucky enough to have a direct link to ask him questions and give him some honest feedback. It almost felt like a group of friends just hanging out. Lately some people have been straying from talking about Dave and TPC completely and it's pretty disheartening. I feel as if Dave now has to watch over us like a parent over children. We should not require him to censor our postings. I don't want to be a judge or act holier-than thou, but I think that it's possible that we may be in danger of losing our connection to Dave here, and none of us want that. So maybe we should ask ourselves before we post, does my comment have to do with anything that Dave would want on his blog? or does what I have to say have anything to do with TPC or Dave? If not then maybe it would be best not to post it. Sorry if this comes off as bossy, but these are just my ideas. I would hate for Dave to have to close comments just because we cannot behave ourselves.
As for the Sunday 10 I have a couple of questions. First, do you regret not finishing high school? Have there been times when you wish you had? Second, who was it who came up with the name Carmen Electra? I think it's a beautiful name and it fits her because she is extremely beautiful. Was it Prince, or did she create it herself?

Hey Dave,
A quick question if I may...
What's your take on Mötley Crüe? I ask because I notice you're wearing one of their t-shirts on the cover of Strays and was surprised, given their cock-rock leanings (Girls Girls girls etc...), and the fact that Jane's were so anti that kind of big hair 80s cheesiness. Was it an ironic statement of yours?
Hope you have time to answer. Cheers.

What approach do you take to crafting your guitar solos? Do you mess around improvising till something good comes up or sit down and write it out phrase by phrase? Take it easy bro J.C.

Hey Dave, fantastic CFR show on Saturday. A group of us know religiously listen to the whole thing live via the web, all the way from Australia. Is it too much to ask if next week you could give a shout out to us?
Also, unclecreepy, what a kind gesture that you proposed the other day, change my point of view of you completely. Thank you for the offer, but I must decline as I live in Australia and it would be too expensive, and I wouldn't want anyone to bare the burden of that no mater what the cost. Those two CD's are as scarce as hen's teeth over here. Can not find them anywhere. I have found them on the internet so I might get them off that. Once again, creepy thank you and I’m sorry for any previous negativity I had put onto you previously.
Stay happy all and make sure you enjoy life.

Haven't posted much, just wanted to say.....THANKS for the download of TPC promo video & for posting the CF Radio shows.....and for still making the time to come here, even though you've been quite busy.
IMHO.....This blog DOES NOT need a Moderator, please DO NOT leave this blog in the hands of a fan. We don't need any 'power plays' coming to this blog.
Dave, YOU have been 'moderating' here just fine!
Do whatever you have to do, to keep this blog the way it is....delete posts, close down the posting option for a day....so some folks can chill out & calm down....do ANYTHING short of putting a Moderator here. Believe me, it will not work.
take care,
itanja

Anyone ever down to trade, got over 600 cds all type and genre and all great stuff. No Blink 182! Also lots of dead and phish on tape. At least 600 total. Fill those dead collections! dave:is your collection huge, is it sparse or is it all hard core rap. I prefer the ghetto funk urban jazz fusion stuff. Dearest DAVE.....After a full day of yard work - bush trimming, lawn mowing, weed whacking and pulling - The question that begs to be answered today is: Does Dave own a lawnmower?? Or do you find yard work / gardening therapeutic?? Have you ever mowed a lawn - come on Dave - Inquiring minds must know....

"It really is a first come first serve thing, but there is no need to get there hours ahead of time. It's always pretty comfortable there."
I don't know about that Dave, I've been pimpin you guys to everyone and their mother...maybe I should have waited until after the show...for very selfish reasons.

by the way you have tons of requests to do a under 21 gig. Lots of young fans around.
Any chance of having starlit open??

One more thing, I'm thinking about getting more pins for the show.
Black, purple, blue, or metallic silver??? Itty bitty, medium, or venti???

Simon, please let someone burn and mail you a copy of those CDs. It's really not that big of a deal and you do need to have them. Better yet, let someone pick them up for you and mail them a check. You can even pay for postage, which would let you be guilt-free.
Have you tried Ebay? A lot of sellers ship outside the US. Worth a try, at least. Good luck!

Good morning, everyone.
Zzzz... It sure feels like a Monday. Easing into the day very slowly... I just wanted to say "hi" to everyone and say that once again I enjoyed this week's CFR.
Thanks to CFR, I finally heard NIN's new song... and boy am I glad I did. It's slammin!! Trent does it again.
Dave - Good luck on the no-patch thing. That can't be easy... Oh, and I'm glad to hear that you're considering doing more writing w/ Johnny. Very cool.
Tracey - Congrats on making it onto the show.) :)
Love and more coffee,

any other suggestions guys?Dave, you got any suggestions?
kyle
Posted by: Kyle at April 18, 2005 08:54 AM
Seriously though Kyle...
1. Anything with a twin guitar part by Thin Lizzy, simple but sounds great when someone really nails them. I've always liked the drums at the end of Chinatown too.
2. Try some obscure stuff to make the crown go WTF. Aloneagainor by Love or some Kinks stuff, can't go wrong with the Kinks... or The Who.
3. Tool sounds good.
Will be interested to read what you do.
Finish work in 10 minutes.....

this Baseball GM, Billy Beane, gave an interview to a sports blog site. In an NY Times article he is quoted as saying..."The reason why I would opt to go do the interviews with them is that it's been a great forum to get the actual message across rather than having it filtered through someone else," Mr. Beane said. "There may be seven newspaper reporters covering one team, and they may be more interested in covering something first than covering something right."
Thought that related to the power of the blog and why Dave has this site in the first place. wanted to share with ya'll. Says a lot about newspapers and tv and 'preconceived angles'.
Also this guy Edgar Bronfman Jr (bought Warner Bros ~1 year ago)...there'a an article on the state of the company and his IPO plans, in the NY Times Sunday Arts section...i think of VH when I hear the name Warner Bros. but I guess old JA albums have that label too.
KSAN, a 'Classic Rock' radio station in SF started playing Jane's Addiction last week for the first time.
Frankly I'm glad. I've wanted to hear JA-STP-APCircle next to my Who, Zep and Floyd for a while :)

There is a great book that has helped tons of people quit smoking, I have been told it is very much an AA approach to not somking. It's called Allen Carr's Easyway to quit smmoking. It is hard to find in the US (the guy is UK based), but it really works. I quit 3 years ago and have never looked back. If you can't find it in the US try Amazon.com/uk. It's a quickk read, but every person I have given it to has quit easily.
Good Luck!

Hi Joel,
You mentioned Edgar Bronfman Jr, I think his family once owned Seagrams! From alcohol to entertainment! looool
I actually think SONY owns most of the record companies these days....Columbia etc.
Got to check out the rest of the Sunday NY Times esp the 'Arts & Leisure', I always get interrupted from my Sunday reading!
take care,

Krista, the posts here have never been strictly about Dave and TPC. Not that I disagree with you entirely. I think the bullshit from the TPC needs to stay there and not be carried over here. This forum can't support the weight of that, being just one thread each day. But people have always talked about other things on here. I think it's a good thing myself. It gives it a nice sense of community. Besides, constant questions and comments on TPC would have to get annoying, don't you think? Read this as if you were Dave. I just did that and all those questions got on my friggin nerves (but that's just me!). Still, I agree that it shouldn't become what it has in the last week or so, and I definitely share your fear in that regard. I think most of us do.
Kyle, lotsa luck! I'm totally impressed that you guys can cover Tool. That takes balls! :p

Dana,
Yes I do agree, thanks for the clairfication. Maybe if we can just refrain from threats of bodily harm..that works for me at least. I guess if anyone has that kind of bone to pick with someone else they should um, well at least refrain from doing it here. I just picture Dave reading some of the last few weeks's threads and being very sad. We all have at least one thing in common here: WE LOVE DAVE! Remember that everyone and I think we'll be ok!
Posted by: Krista at April 18, 2005 11:51 PM
Wow, I got my name up in UC lights twice. Should I look for a place to hide? (Haha!)
Krista, I think more than the threats needs to end. People shouldn't be posting here the same way they do (or did) at the TPC site. There isn't room for people to go back and forth like that on here. I'd really like to see that stop.
In other words, UC, don't make me jack you up! This little Italian girl will fuck your shit up! Don't you even doubt it. :p

yeah that's right Itanja,
Bronfman inherited the Seagrams fortune, sold it for shares of Vivendi stock (which then tanked).
Now he wants to do to others what he did to himself (with Vivendi) and sell shares of Warner Bros. (to recoup $ he's lost) in an IPO. Stay Awayyyy nowwwwww, no way out...

HAHAHAHA I can relate to that, only it's not usually handcuffs...you know you have a problem when you're at a family get-together and your husband takes the kids and leaves the party without you, forcing you to get a ride from your parents, which creates a major flashback in the midst of which you realize why you became an alcoholic............true story!

Thunder, please explain
Why you ask me how I am, I'm fine I
Wonder is it sane
To pierce purple eyeballs made of china
I love you like a son, like a game I have won
Like a toothbrush I used for the Eiffel Tower
My youth, it is gone, it's a boot stuck in the ground
Is there truth to be found in an iron flower
Mmm, I will try hard to be a spark of power
I will, I'll never be your iron flower
Stone please explain
Why your silence makes more noise than thunder
Bones; is it sane
To obey me and the flesh you're under
Your words are soon gone and it hurts, I have none
Take a jump from you pretty linguistic tower
The goal of speech, so obnoxious to reach
Only one thing to do, melt your iron flower...
Mmm, I will try hard to be a spark of power
I will, I'll never be your iron flower
Mmm...

Hi Dave,
I've recently started writing songs of my own and as you were a major factor in me learning the guitar i'd love for you to listen to one of them, i'm not after a way into the 'business' as such - i just enjoy writing - but for one of my idols to hear some of my work would be amazing!
Cheers

Hi Emma.
I wanted to give you my story.
I have 3 tattoos, one of them is on the small of my back (Jane's addiction star, like the one Dave has on his elbows) and it was my first. It did not hurt at all. I could barley feel it and it took 45 minutes. But my second one (on my inner hip in the lower stomach area)That one hurt the most! I could not breath and it sucked.
So, in my opinon, it depends on the person. But the saying goes, Once you get one, you want more. Its true. I want to get 2 more.
Hope that helps.

I gotta go dig a hole and Im not even all that bummed. Fishins not up to par yet, but relaxin. Dave-you fish at all? You should do a charter trip with TPC, I would think that is something anyone would enjoy. There are even sober charters out here on the East coast.
"Boots...keep the cotton in your mouth and outta your spoon!"
Dave-you miss the Spanish ghetto come this time of year? I do...breakfast n bundles..thats so messed up how something as simple as a season can be such a trigger. I dont know how you do it. Im sober..but even with the m at 110 mg, that stuff has an incredible power over my existence and creeps back into the mind on a weekly basis. Keep up the good work! I try and remember the stuff like junk sickness and lost instruments. The prayer stuff is difficult. Sorry to ramble and mention the b word although you rockstars probably get grams anyway.

I got this in my e-mail today, it’s hella long but there are two references to the lovely Mrs. Navarro. Happy birthday Carmen! :D
420 is not so much a time or place as it is a state of mind. A stoned state of mind, to be specific. In the past, HIGH TIMES has reported on various competing theories surrounding the appearance of this unique bit of smoker slang, but as the following timeline clearly shows, the controversy has been resolved. The original story of 420 begins with five fellow students - all of whom assumed the nom de pot Waldo - who met after school at the appointed hour to smoke some of California's finest, and occasionally searched for a hidden pot field they'd heard about in the hills outside town.
1971 - Five San Rafael High School students christen the term "4:20," meeting daily at that hour to share a smoke under the school's statue of Louis Pasteur. The original password: "420 Louis."
1972 - Carmen Electra is born on 4/20 in Cincinnati.
1973-1989 - 420 languishes in obscurity, passed along from stoner to stoner as a completely underground "grassroots" phenomenon.
1990 - A mysterious flyer promoting 420 circulates at Grateful Dead shows, especially in Northern California. A copy of the flyer finds its way from a show in Oakland to HIGH TIMES' offices in New York. San Rafael was the home of Grateful Dead Productions, supporting a link back to the original Waldos, who are not mentioned in the flyer.
1991 - HIGH TIMES publishes the text of the mysterious flyer, which claims that 420 started in San Rafael, CA, "as a police code for marijuana smoking in progress." It also promotes "the grandmaster of all holidays: 4/20, or April 20th."
1994 - Clocks in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction are set at 4:20.
1995 - The Cannabis Action Network stages its first annual 4/20 Ball in San Francisco at Maritime Hall. The event begins and ends at 4:20.
1997 - HIGH TIMES launches 420.com, taking 420 into the digital world.
1998 - HIGH TIMES debunks the "marijuana smoking in progress" theory and declares the Waldos the true originators of 420 after the group produces letters and posters to prove this claim.
1999 - Columbine: The worst thing to happen on 4/20 since Hitler was born 90 years earlier.
2002 - The original Waldos reunite at the HIGH TIMES Doobie Awards in New York City to present a lifetime achievement award to their favorite band, the New Riders of the Purple Sage, who reunite for one night only and perform their classic marijuana anthem "Panama Red."
2003 - Carmen Electra marries Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro.
2004 - Clocks in Sophia Coppola's Lost in Translation are set at 4:20. Coppola and Tarantino become an item.
2005 - HIGH TIMES suggests moving 4:20 to 5:20: "When you're working a 9-to-5 job, sometimes it's worth waiting the extra hour."
PRESENT - You finished reading this 420 timeline.

Odd, that in 1990, well from then until 1994 I was in Northern CA, going to loads of Dead shows, but never ever saw such a flyer, at the shows or anywhere else in San Fran, Oakland, or anywhere remotely near the bay area. Oo

All that sheep talk reminds me of a joke I heard…
A guy is driving down a stretch of highway when he passes a farm. Looking out on the pasture, he spies a farmer screwing a sheep. He stops his truck, gets out and says to the farmer, “Hey, that looks interesting, can I try?. The farmer says, “Sure, “ and steps back from the sheep. Guy bends over next to the sheep in front of the farmer.
Ha ha. Do you get it? Took me a minute.
Have a great day, everyone!
