Friday
Last night was our last night in the studio for a while. Now we sit with the mixes, see if there is anything else we need to do, and try to figure out all the other stuff that is much less fun, such as business and how to get this stuff to you. We are gonna do some shows around town and kind of pick up where we left off on the live tip. We are looking to book an April date along with a date in May or two. There has even been talk of trying to hit Vegas too, primarily because Steve is so into this Wynn Hotel opening. The songs sound great and as it stands, the album tracks we are considering are:
Awake
Tea House of the Spirits
Bloody Mary
Loophole
Blue Bruises
Left to Lose
Half Hearted
Outsider
Said You'd Be
She Won't Last
Unholy Ghost
Go On
Chances are one or two of these might not make the final cut, but for now they are all tied for final approval by all of us. Ashes, Start of Darkness and Someone Else have yet to be fully realized and may come to fruition at some point, but just not right now. Have a beautiful day. I owe you all some answers for the past couple of weeks so if you have any questions, throw them at me.

ummm, ok, about that "oral lovin'" reference your wife made in this month's Blender issue....elaboration, clarification, confirmation?
Dave, Dave, you're my fave!!!! But, I don't know, Billy Morrison runs a very close second!!! I know you guys talk every day, and see each other every Saturday, do you and the wives ever get together for a 'game night'?
oh, and one more thing, what's the third question to win the guitar? You don't have to post it here, just send me a private email....LOL!!!
love to all!!

Dave,
Long time no speak.
¿Did that female caller from CFR, ever send you the song "I wish I was Dave Navarro's underwear"?
I am currently reading THE DA VINCI CODE. I highly recommend it. I have about 125 pages to go. This is definitely a must-read. It is a GREAT novel.
Later,

PS- I just heard that the Pope has passed away. But it has not been confirmed.

hi dave!
when you were using and obviously were living a less healthy lifestyle, was your hair falling out or very limp and weak at all? the reason i ask is bc i have had a lot of emotional stress lately and smoked weed about once a day for months straight and next thing i knew my hair was all damaged. Just inquiring and curious.
Thanks Dr. Navarro!!
Posted by: Neil at April 1, 2005 10:52 AM
Hey Dave, I know its sometimes not fun to live in the past or be tied to the past, but do you think that when you are touring that you guys will jam on some of your solo stuff or some Jane's stuff, or is that all out of the question because you want to be known for this band?
Just curious...
Tim
Posted by: Tim at April 1, 2005 10:56 AM
I didn't get an answer for the first question I ever asked you,so sorry for asking it again,
What's your opinion of Korn's cover of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" or have you heard it?
Thanks Dave
It's been great to finally hear about you again.
Love ya! : )
Posted by: Adriana at April 1, 2005 10:56 AM
Dave,
In my limited view of the business,
I understand the perks of being picked up by a label and getting this disc out on someone else's dime, and the massive debt accrued as such. It would allow you to get a bigger audience when you play out and a return at the gate for TPC. The short road...
I also understand how TPC could put this out on their own, and through name recognition, grass roots marketing, and touring, recoup their/your initial investment, making a more attractive band for a label to sign with a greater chance of the band retaining creative control. The long road...
So my question is this, Why would you pick getting signed now over DIY, or vice versa?
I hope this question is not cosidered intrusive, that is not my intent. I'm just trying to get a better line on the biz, and it is not often I can ask someone as generous as you have been.
Cheers,
Mike C.

a Vegas show! I am seeing a nice little road trip in the future for us LA agents, yeah? ;)
Hi D-dogg :)
no questions, figure you need a break and have plenty of other things to do! Hope you're doing well and breathing fresh. Going on a month without the cigs soon, rock on!
Posted by: mortisha8 at April 1, 2005 10:59 AM
Hey panic agents did I mention road trip???
That would be sooo much fun. Vegas and TPC it doesn’t get much better than that. Oh did I mention my birthday lands on May. That would be a super delicious Birthday treat. Haven’t been to Vegas for almost a year, and I’m getting the skakes.
(again I need to stay away from the coffee, that stuff goes straight to my head)
Have a beautiful day,
Wendy
Oh yeah how’s this for an opening act, Starlit
That would rock my sucks off! It’s just a suggestion, I’m just saying…saying it would be great.

Hey Dave,
If your planning a few shows in the coming months interested in playing Santa Barbara? My friend owns a great live music (rawk) venue and would love to have you guys play. He's got Metal Skool and Louis XIV this weekend ought to be a blast! It would be great to hear the new stuff in our home town!

What's happenin' Dave. There's an interesting new interview with Martyn LeNoble over at www.aintnoright.com. When asked about the production on 'Strays' he said:
ML: I would be one of the fans that agreed Bob fucked up the sound. At one point I had a talk with him, and said “Man I’m just trying to do Jane’s, and this doesn’t sound like Jane’s. I asked him if he had ever even listened to Ritual, and he said “I can’t listen to that record because I hate the way it sounds. He said “I want Jane’s to stop being an art metal band and be a world class rock band.
How do you feel about that? Did you and the band agree with Bob Ezrin? Not tryin to bring any negativity to the board or anything, just curious. Also, Martyn says he is unclear on why he was kicked out of Jane's. Any word on that?
Thanks Dave, Keep up the great work on the site.

Q/ Do you recollect a throwaway song from OHM called Blender, i have a pre-release review from 95 that mentions that song, but when the record came out, the song was gone?
Also, I'm getting married myself to my partner of 10 years on May 29th(Our 4 year old son is bearing the rings), i am really nervous, so if you could give me a few pointers some time on what you did to calm yourself, I'd be 4ever indebted to you...

Obviously you used to really have a thing for Fiona Apple.
Besides the blood message incident, you asked Rich Costey to produce your album.
(You probably didn't decide to get with him because of his work with Angelique.)
And then you had Jon Brion play on a tune or two.
Andrew Slater co-produced "Rexall."
All people associated with Fiona Apple.
So... have you heard the leaked tunes from Fiona's newest album, "Extraordinary Machine"? And would you please play one of them on the CFR show?

WoW, massive responses (positive +) for the Vegas show. I'll echo, and say again, Dave, please give us out-of-staters as much advance notice as possible. That would be greatly appreciated. LA was a fun first, but I'm ready to try Vegas out.
Nice, Q. & A. back on track - always insightul and interesting.
Q. How are TPC belt-buckles coming along? (I've been in workout mode lately, so I could use a new belt/buckle to hold up the trousers. That would be cool if you could have some on hand for the upcoming shows. I'm sure they'll go like hot cakes, so I'd like to reserve mine now ; ) -Al

Did I just read TPC in Las Vegas? Oh hell yeah!
Posted by: Brett at April 1, 2005 05:30 PM
Since IT IS the week-end, I'll throw one more at ya that I've been anxiously/patiently waiting to hear if it went anywhere. For reference, here are my initial Q.'s w/ your A.'s.
1. Did you end up modifying or changing the ending of "She Won't Last"? (I really dig the jam at the end that you played at the 2nd (I think) Dragonfly Show.)
We tracked the end jam and it sounds killer, but I am not sure if it will make the final album. It could wind up a B-Side or on an import or just an online thing for all I know. The track is coming out so good it may be anti-climatic to punctuate it with the jam out section.
3. Could you ever evolve that section (She Won't Last - outro) into it's own song, because it almost seems like it would do it more justice that way?
Dude, we are right there with you! Thinking the same thing!
Q. So, did the metamorphis take place w/ any of the newer songs that you listed above??? (Thanx, Al)
Posted by: Big Al at April 1, 2005 05:41 PM
I researched and found out that the Wynn hotel opens at the end of April. If TPC decided to play Vegas the middle of June, I'd surely be in. I'm still deciding where to vacation.
Miss your frequent updates, D. But I'm eager for a new album of sweet, sweet music.

Hey Dave! Thats awesome to hear about the studio! I cant wait until "The Panic Channel" album comes out! I'll make sure to buy it first!!
But also, I have a question about your site.
I noticed by clicking the side bars, there was one that said "Downloads". so I clicked it, then I found that one of the songs said "Fire(Deconstruction)". When I downloaded it, I was wondering who it was by. Obviously, your guitar work has been involved, and i love the song, but I was also wondering Who is the man singing? Is the song on an Album?
Thanx and Be Well,

Hmm... the Wynn hotel? I work at the Doubletree, probably like "Ghetto tree" would be more like it compared to the place mentioned. If Steve ever wants to get into it, Id love to talk some amenities with ya's. "Is it a full service hotel?.... How many stars? How much for a room...suites? Concierge?" Workin at a hotel makes you a tool, I like to think of myself a special tool similar to a torques wrench. Speaking of stars, tomorrow morning will be nine!

Dave,
since you just got done tracking the album, you've gone through the trials and tribulations of recording. I know you use Marshall gear, as most rockers do. But other than the stack, What kind of amps do you use in the studio? What do you feel is a more solid amp to play through: a VOX AC30 or a Fender Twin Reverb? Thanx for the input bro JC

SOME KIND OF MONSTER
Everyone who's ever been in a rock band or wants to be in a rock band should see "Some Kind of Monster" (this weekend on vh1). Required viewing for the egomaniacle mate in your life/band.
Kirk has the best line in the film after a Hetfield comment/concern/complaint.
Hats off to the entire band for putting this out there...

"Have you ever played music with a fan" ahh...good question. Wanna help me on my solo project? HAHAHHA!-anyway I cant play lead guitar....so I need you! See ya then!
Oh...heres one or two questions.
1. Did you pull or have any april fools jokes pulled that you could share?
2. On that note...what do you think about Austin Kutcher and the show PUNKD. (I think he is gonna get hurt oneday!) I saw a post refering to you gettin PUNKD-any story here.
3. Got any OUIJA board/paranormal storys we could get ya to share.
4. Most inspirational musical influence?
5. How much you get back, pay on your tax return!

Dave, I think I've had two dreams about you so far, and each time I get to cuddle and not much else. It's great and all, but if you could fuck me next time, I'd really appreciate it.
Love always.

**I found that one of the songs said "Fire(Deconstruction)". When I downloaded it, I was wondering who it was by. Obviously, your guitar work has been involved, and i love the song, but I was also wondering Who is the man singing?**
Shannon- Deconstruction is the name of a side project that Dave did with former bassist Eric Avery. I believe they recorded it in between Nothing's Shocking and Ritual. I also believe that Eric handled all the lyrics. They released a CD. I believe it's out of print, but I found one at indie record shop. Others may know more, but that's the short story. Hope that helps.
The moment you guys have a Vegas date- you have to let us know. I'm coming in from Idaho for it. Thanks again for cueing us into what's happening w/TPC.
