C.E. - 4/20

Birthday_1I know, I have been so out of the loop lately. So much stuff going on. First, lemme just confess. I am smoking again. I made it like 43 days and then, just like it was nothing, I was back in. Maybe that's why I am compelled to post again. I like to smoke as I type. Anyway, Steve Isaacs and I went to my wife's birthday party tonight. Lots of fun. Tomorrow Carmen and I are going to be in a fashion show to help raise money for the treatment of MS. We both have people close to us who suffer from the disease. It's a great event and we attended last year. Next week we are back to work in the rehearsal room, jamming, writing and getting ready for the May 17th show at the Dragonfly. Then on the 20th, we play at the M.A.P. show. Jerry Cantrell's band will be playing too. There is a new Camp Freddy show in Vegas on the 30th for the Hard Rock Hotel 10th anniversary party. Nine Inch Nails is playing earlier that night. I'm gonna try to get Twiggy to jump up for a song or two. I'll check in soon. Carmen says thank you to all who wished her a Happy Birthday.

Sorry to hear you are back smoking, but hey, just try and cut it back, okay? It is tough trying to stop a life habit, but you already know that don't you!

Carmen - hope you had a wonderful birthday.

Can't wait to see the picture!

Bless you all!

Hey Dave, I have a wedding coming up on June 4th and thought I would ask if there was anything you regreted not doing in regards to your wedding.. was there anything you would have done with out now that you look back? Everyone tells me what I need to do or what I will like and I haven't done this before so they tell me to just trust them. Thanks

Well, it's really really hard to quit smoking. I can understand the "liking" of it. I just do it because i like the feeling. Sounds dumb but it's true. I quit when i was pregnant but started again when my son was about 8 months old and till then i do not even seriously attempt to try to quit again. I guess the time will come when i am ready to do it. At least i do only smoke outside (not in my house because of my son).

Glad you had fun at Carmen's party.

And again, i love the S.S.R.I. video!!!

love,

Dave,
Who is/was your farvourite Beetle?
I'm a Gearge man! Am just listening to George Harrison's All Things Must Pass which I have just rebought on CD after wearing the vinyl out, and its brilliant!
I know Lennon was the cool one and much more of an icon, but I like to think of George just sitting there calmly with his guitar, helping Ringo with his shoe laces etc and just being a generally mellow influence. Yeah he went a bit eastern and cosmic for a while, but I like the flavour it brought to his playing. Can imagine the other Beetles rolling their eyes when he broke out the sitar though!
Any thoughts?

Hey, Dave! Well, maybe you'll at least be able to cut down a bit. I've been smoking for about 10 years. I feel that I can control my smoking habits. I don't know that I could quit completely, but a pack could last me up to three weeks plus. And that's bumming alot of them to others. And when I don't have any, I don't run out to get some. I just wait 'til I have to put gas or end up at Wal-Mart or something. I try to remember that alot of it is mental. And from what I know about you, you're strong in that department.

I should have my first piece of Dave Navarro merchandise. I got white PRS earrings with you on them coming from the UK. Yay! You feel special? Hah! Just kidding.

Whoa! The picture just changed as I was looking at it!
Wooo.
Kissy kissy!

Dave, I knew you'd be smoking again! I didn't wanna say anything though. I mean come on Dave, you're orally fixated, you need something in your mouth all the time.

Still haven't got the image of you in handcuffs out of my head from your comment about drinking - it just conjoured up too many hot thoughts!

Hello Dave!
I tried to quit smoking but its hard (me being a post-coital smoker an' all) but anyway what I was gonna say was: I imagine you've been to England a fair few times, have you ever seen The League Of Gentlemen? If you have, you'll know why I'm asking!

Hey Dave - the cigs will stop when you're ready. It took my woman getting a 3 week-long-lasting sinus infection for her to finally quit 3 years ago and she still fights the urge to smoke. She treats it like the dope, though, no cigs just for today. We're both clean, too and it rocks to see a professional musician getting and staying clean. I've had to quit bands I was in in order to stay clean. One night, our bass player's girlfriend relapsed in the bar we were playing in with the drummer's girlfriend, ON OUR TAB! What a bitch that night was. I was wondering how being clean has affected your relationships with other musicians. For me, there's some I've just had to give a good letting alone, despite their musical gifts.

Hey -

Dave - Great to hear from you. We missed ya.

As far as the smoking goes, only you know what's right for you. Everyone's different. Even if you can't quit altogether right now, every little bit of cutting down helps. (Does that make grammatical sense? LOL) Baby steps...

And the fact that you're so health/fitness-conscious otherwise surely works in your favor. (There are plenty of non-smokers out there who sit on their asses doing nothing and eating junk food all day. That's not much better!)

I'm happy to hear about the MS benefit. MS is such a bizarre and horrible disease with no known cause. I have a best friend who has it, and I thank God for modern medicine, because so far, it's under control. I pray that it stays that way.

Speaking of MS, have you stoners out there (you know who you are, LOL) heard about a new cannabis-based spray being used in Canada to treat certain MS symptoms? I saw it in the paper yesterday. I find it fascinating how certain plants are so misunderstood and maligned in some cultures, and embraced in others.

On that note, ciao and have a great day, everyone. Wherever you are, live it up as much as you can.

Peace,
-Denise

i agree with SDM, Henry Rollins and Camp Freddy. hank is the man, you know you want to do that

Posted by: marku at April 22, 2005 07:12 AM

Damn Dave! 43 days? What happened dude? Shit, that stuff sounds more addictive than the smack was! (Okay, I may be exaggerating a bit.) Well, look at it this way...you made it a month and a half without smoking! That's longer than most people who try and quit. Try again and see how long you go without it. I've got faith that you can beat this thing eventually, as I'm sure most of the people here do as well.

Glad to hear about the benefit for MS. This week I found out my ex-girlfriend (whom has remained a very good, close friend after all these years) was just diagnosed with MS. It was really upsetting. But, I'm confident that with all the advances in medicine lately, that a cure can be found in the next 10-15 years. So, thanks for doing a something to try and speed up the process dude. :)

You did well Dave. Its hard going cold turkey on something. I have certain issues with Coca Cola that we won't get into :p

Happy belated birthday to Carmen

Posted by: Soph-Deux at April 22, 2005 07:23 AM

You're human, Dave. Please don't feel too badly about smoking again, and thank you for telling us. I think coming clean is good for you. You'll stop when you're ready. Hopefully, sooner rather than later.

You took Steve to Carmen's party? Sweetie, that's just wrong. He's a lovely boy, but come on... ;^)

I think Henry on Camp Freddy is a great idea.

I hope today is the start of a wonderful for all of us.

Hi Dave,

It's so great that you & Carmen are doing the MS benefit, my cousin died of it two years ago, she was only 56 with two grown sons. She lived with it was for about nine years, though it was misdiagnosed for about six of those years!

Her case was quite bizarre, she was intially diagnosed as having lyme disease! Ironically, she was a nurse who worked at a top East coast hospital, they unfortunately couldn't seem to get to the root of her symptoms! Of course, she went out of her hospital and even went to another state to get it diagnosed.

After numerous tests, many 'expert' doctors, other mis-diagnosed symptoms.... which lead her to spend $20,000 out of pocket on a medication she didn't need, she was finally diagnosed with MS.

At least she was happy before getting ill...she was a gourmet cook, loved to paint and raised two great kids. She enjoyed working in a field where she got to help others.

Don't sweat the smoking, my dad quit & restarted several times....though when his health took a bad turn, he finally stopped cold turkey! Please don't let it get to that point! Good Luck~!

Btw, watched "Joey" last night.....after NBC hyped Carmen's appearence for days....seems the episode wasn't shown...!???? Madchen Amick was on, she played Joey's new girlfriend.

take care,
itanja

Posted by: itanja at April 22, 2005 07:43 AM

OOOOPs, that should have read: "She lived with it FOR about nine years, though it was misdiagnosed for about six of those years!"

That's what happens when I don't preview my posts!

Posted by: itanja at April 22, 2005 07:46 AM

Dave,

Now that TPC has more than enough songs to do an extended set, will the band be running through them all?
Since it doesn't appear that "Ashes" will be on your record, will it remain a staple of the live gigs?

Good Morning Dave...thanks for the update and the pic...hoping there will be some pics of you and your beautiful wife after the MS Fashion Show. (hint, hint)

As someone who quit smoking many times before it "stuck"....I so understand how hard it is. Don't worry though...you will reach a point one day where you are truly ready to quit, when you no longer enjoy it and you are sick to death of the habit...it has to be for you though, and just you...not anyone else because it is pointless to try and quit just because others want you to or you think you "should".

When you reach that point and you are truly ready to let go of the habit, you will be able to quit...cold turkey...and never look back.

Have a beautiful weekend, Dave.

Posted by: Cori at April 22, 2005 08:37 AM

Thanks for being honest. When your ready, pick up that patch and be back on your path to eliminate cigs. Your body has already begun to repair itself in those 43 days. Dont dwell on it, ad when your ready try again. Question-where you totally off the patch when you picked up again? Its cool what your trying to do? If you picked up dope again I hope you would be as honest, maybe not here but to the right people. You have more support than most, use it to the advantage it proposes. I want a box of patchs, but cant put the forty bucks aside!
Keep us posted, you may wanna consider how to go about stopping again. Sometimes when announce a date to quit something...if I dont..Im less likely to try again and give up. Just wanted to share my encouragement, strength, and hope with ya. HAve you completed your AA/NA stepwork? Do you have a sponsor? Could you pm me or email me if you dont wanna share that stuff here. Help another dude in recovery so to speak if you find a chance to jot a line.

I was proud of you for just trying to quit. As someone who has never even held a cigarette I can't imagine how powerful the addiction can be. Have you ever tried accupuncture or hypnotherapy to help you with the quitting? Accupuncture is great for chronic problems. Good luck to you when/if you decide to try and quit again.

Sorry (like evryone else I see) that you started back up. But I hope you are able to quit when you are ready. Both my grandmothers smoked. One quit when my mom was pregnant with my older sister, the other smoked all her life, even through cancer and chemotherapy. I believe she stopped towards the end, because she had to, her heart was enlarged, and it was untreatable in part due to ten years of chemo. She went through alot of pain and suffering during those ten years, but she never showed it, until the end. Hopefully you and your loved ones won't have to go through that.
Sorry to be such a downer. Good luck.

Hi Dave I am sooo sorry to hear you started smoking again...I hope that you will be able to do it again and do it for good! I hope that post where the person said smoking isn't addictive and that it's not bad for you was just a joke, someone being sarcastic...BECAUSE I lost my mom to cigarettes! LONG STORY...BUT..I was at her bedside at the hospital when she died on MAY 26TH OF LAST YEAR! She had spent nearly a year in the hospital because of complications from smoking related problems! She only had one and a half lungs because of losing part of one due to smoking! She had COPD (CRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DIESEASE) THANKS TO SMOKING! She kept getting pneumonia due to weak lungs, THANKS TO SMOKING! Because of her inability to get enough oxygen she had to be put on a respirator about five times before the doctor told her he couldn't keep putting her through the procedure...so he put it in for good...she had to be fed with a feeding tube for about a month because of the respirator...she lost all of her hair because of lack of nutrition found in normal foods. She also lost her ability to walk because of laying in the hospital for a year! I watched my mother go from being a 5'6, 115lb., brown hair, green eyed GORGEOUS WOMAN, to a skeleton of a woman who couldn't walk, couldn't speak without a special plug in her throat to form words, bald shell of a human being!!! THANKS TO SMOKING! Luckily I made the drive from Ohio to Michigan to be by her side before she died..I got to tell her how much I love her and how great she was as a mother, grandmother and friend...when they turned the respirator off she lived for about 5 min. before her heart gave out and she died..I am only 37 and I had soo much more to say to her..I wanted her to see her grandchildren grow..I wanted to be able to drink coffee with her and talk about 'old times' and now all of that is gone...THANKS TO SMOKING!!

I am sorry for bringing this story to Dave's blog but I just can't believe anyone could say that this isn't addicting or bad! I don't knock anyone who smokes I know about addiction..I just wanted to try to reach out and tell this story I don't want to see anyone have to go thru what my mom did..you may be young now, you may not feel the effects of smoking yet, but it does catch up to you..AND my hubby quit a year and a half ago COLD TURKEY, he gave it to me and our three children as a Christmas gift and he has never looked back...IF HE CAN DO IT ANYONE CAN!!!!!

Hey Dave & family!

Dave- It is said it takes and average of 8-10 of quitting to smoking to actually quit.....so you are okay.

You will quit when you are ready, so don't worry and don't beat yourself up. I have quit 3 times and once was as long as a year and a half. It is one of the hardest addictions to quit.

Glad to hear you and Carmen had a great day on her b.day..

Take care all and have a great weekend!:)

Poor Dave!!!

Dave~ Are you doing CFR tonight? And do you have a guest coming in? Have you been recording for the Camp Freddy CD recently? Can you give us any hints of what you'll be playing on that?

And Dave, I bought the new Total Guitar mag yesterday, and there's a pin up of Jerry Cantrell in it, and damn it, the first thing I thought of was you on CFR saying how big he was.

Love and huge hugs

Oh and about MS. I'm doing an MS Walk on the 1st of May. Hopefully this will be fun, I've never done a walk before. And once I had a customer(at a store) that was talking to me about him having MS and it was kinda weird because he was saying how he loves bees, and I was like oh i hate them, and hes like I love them for their stings, because supposively(sp)... there sting is good for people that have MS, I forget way... but he was explaining it and everything. Pretty Interesting. Just thought I'd share that, Now I'll go. Have a nice ddayy!

Dave!

Are you taking sides in the Paris/Nicole feud?!?!? Or, IS there even a feud at all? It won't change my life either way, but just interesting to have read you say that you're friends with Paris, but to see you in these pics with Nicole.

If you haven't already, don't pick sides man...there's too much potential on both sides to give up. :-)

Oh, and I just have to say that I think it's majorly kick-ass that CE's b-day is on 4/20. Even though like yourself I gave drugs up years ago, the novelties don't get old!

dave

i was listening to old radio shows and you had a comment about how much you have cum during your life. here is my guestimate:

according to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ejaculation
the average male cums 1/2 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon.

so lets say you jerk off once a day at 2 teaspoons:
2 teaspoons of cum / day
730 teaspoons of cum / year

converting:
6 teaspoons = 1 fluid ounce
128 fluid ounces = 1 fluid gallon
768 teaspoon = 1 fluid gallon

that means about
1 fluid gallon of cum / year

anyway, can't wait for the new album.

Posted by: j.sin at April 23, 2005 11:42 PM

wow........so thats like roughly 25gallons of navarrian spoodge...........damn..........

Posted by: UncleCreepy at April 24, 2005 12:31 AM

hey, that's still a long time, all things considered! (if it's any consolation my grandpa started smoking again a couple of days ago, except it's annoying because he keeps telling me not to tell anyone)

try again whenever you're ready, man. :3 oh and I had no idea when Carmen's birthday was, so, happy belated birthday to her!

Hi Dave,

Well its a long long while since I posted, sorry life has just been a little hectic recently.

I think you did really well 43 days is a long time off the smokes, longer than I have done so far.

You mentioned that you were doing a fashion show to raise money for MS.
Which got me thinking, I was wondering what your stand is on allowing MS sufferers to be prescribed Canabis.
As I also have a couple of people that I know who are suffering with the disease in the Uk.
I live in Holland where they have tested and proved the effectiveness of Canabis for MS. The Uk is doing tests of their own but I am thinking it will be a very long time before they make any positive steps.
Its got to the point where there are little old ladies who have never taken drugs in their life that are making cakes for people with MS in the Uk, risking a jail sentence at like 70 years old so that they can help people with MS, because the medical profession or most likely the government won't.
Just wondered what the situation is like in America are they doing the same tests?

Happy Belated Birthday to Carmen.

Peace and love to you all,

Kirsty

Happy Sunday! It's a lovely cool but sunny Spring day here in NY... I hope everyone is well.

Kirsty - About the MS and cannabis connection... As far as I know, there are a select few U.S. states are looking into exploring and/or prescribing it for people with MS. But not many. Marijuana has such a negative stigma in the eyes of the U.S. government... As I mentioned earlier, Canada seems to be more open to its usage.

To those who posted pics - Thanks again. Very hot. And again, a very, very great cause.

Dave -
A question in case you do some today:

? Who picks out the songs that get played on CFR? Is it strictly you and Billy, or do the heads at Indie 103 get involved as well??

Thanks.

Love,
-Denise

Dave,

Saw that Carmen got you a deck (mahogany?) a little while back. How do you like? (We're getting ready to build one on our cabin up north and think it'll be the perfect addition for grilling and hanging out. The limiting factor is budget, of course, especially w/ the price of wood being expensive these days!)

By the way, what's your favorite TPC song (overall) and one to play? -Al

Dave, not that I'm holding my breath for a Sunday 10, but just in case, I was wondering if you still have to fight the tendency to isolate yourself, or was that strictly addiction related?

Love always.

Dana

PS: A hug for Tracy --> X. Please don't regret making that post about your mom.

I've been to The Winchester House, and it is pretty freaky. The stairs that lead to a door to nowhere, and all sorts of bizarre stuff. But I'm not going to give away anymore about it!
Go visit it. It's great.

Dave~ Did you manage to catch the Doheny gig last night?

Posted by: ylais at April 24, 2005 01:24 PM

Nah, no one has offended me. Sorry if I gave that impression. I have grandparents both chain smokers. My Nan just turned 80. She quit over Xmas, and so did my Grandad. After decades of smoking. My Nan is 80, and her lungs are fine! They quite because they suddenly realised how much money they spent on ciggies. We're talking they have saved FOUR AND A HALF THOUSAND POUNDS, since Xmas since they quit. Now that's incentive.
It's just that me getting on and my Nan to quit never ever worked, nor did scare tactics, and hearing all those stories just ticked her off. I mean imagine, that's all people yap to you about, your doctor keeps telling you to quit smoking...she was fed up with it.
And her chest X-rays are fine. So there are no rules with this smoking thing.
Love, hugs
Lisa

Interesting stuff about the MS/marijuana/cannabis stuff. It could be useful for so many people and it's just sad that state of utter disrepair our government is in over this. I will say here and now that the US government will NEVER make it legal to sell in the US. Let alone any other illegal narcotics. Why? Because the best way to keep a narcotics problem under control is by actually controlling how the drugs are imported, exported, and sold. Agencies within the US government are complicitly involved with dealing drugs; not only to control the issue, but to make money off it in order to fund secret government projects. Don't believe it? Do a google on a guy named Gary Webb. The evidence he dug up in the late 80's/early 90's is astounding and extremely frightening. Enough so that it got him "suicided" last year. The corruption in this flows as deep as Iran-Contra, the LA crack epidemic, and places much deeper than any of us realize. I strongly encourage people to get informed and do their own research about what our government is up to.

Sorry for downing the thread with that stuff, but political corruption is an issue I feel very strongly about and wish more people would know what's going on. I'll leave it at that.

On a lighter note, I heard something about Eric Avery being in Garbage now, but I haven't seen him in any of the publicity photos? So is it just a touring gig or what?

Hope everyone here is well. I'm probably getting back to the panic board sometime this week (god, I miss that place...haven't been there since february). Sort of slowly easing my way back into the internet life (hard to stay away from). But for now, I'm off to enjoy the day!

Be well everyone!

Peace!

A husband walks into Victoria's Secret to purchase some sheer lingerie for his wife. He is shown several possibilities that range from $250 to $500 in price, the more sheer, the higher the price. He opts for the most sheer item, pays the $500 and takes the lingerie home. He presents it to his wife and asks her to go upstairs, put it on and model it for him. Upstairs, the wife thinks, "I have an idea. It's so sheer that it might as well be nothing. I won't put it on, but I'll do the modeling naked, return it tomorrow and keep the $500 refund for myself." So she appears naked on the balcony and strikes a pose. The husband says, "Good Lord! You'd think that for $500, they'd at least iron it!"
He never heard the shot.
