Sunday 6
John, my sincere condolences. The only advice I have is to just hang in there, it will get easier with time.
Boots, Happy Birthday!
Chad, Thanx for the Messy Comics!
The CFR show from last night is up:
1. If TPC tours, will it only be in clubs? Just wondering.
We are hoping to do the clubs as well as open for another band in larger venues. A little six of one, half dozen of the other.
2. So Dave your honest opinion... Love it or hate it? (TPC tat)
Well, I absolutely think it's awesome! I just hope you like our record. I appreciate the vote of confidence in us.
3. What things did you do to clear away the "emotional baggage"?
Gave up the drugs and found a spiritual way of life that works for me. It was important to me that a spiritual way of life was of my understanding and not necessarily a predetermined religion, although religions fortunately work for zillions of people. In short, a simpler and broader way of thinking as in a Big Picture sort of way has been the key for me. Make any sense?
4. Are you watching the new America's Next Top Model? What do you think so far?
I love going from subjects of spirituality straight into America's Next Top Model, but, hell yes, I watch that shit! So far? I can't tell as I am having a hard time picturing any of them winning. I just hope for catty drama and the ruthless Janice Dickinson. That's really all I ask for from that show.
5. What have you been Tivo-ing while spending all this time in the studio?
All the Law & Orders (not sold on Trial By Jury, yet), CSI, ANTM, Surreal Life, American Idol, Intervention, People's Court, House, Cold Case with a forensic wishlist kicker! I think that's it, but my season passes change quite often cause I burn out on stuff. A lot of this stuff is just "laying in bed to fall asleep" type of programming.
6. Dave I have a really important exam on Wednesday.....got any ways I can get out of it?
Dude! That is three days from now! My advice? Study for it. "It ain't like ya don't got the time!"

Wow, other people fall asleep to the television! I have to have it on, can't stand when it's too quiet. I need noise to go to sleep, LOL. Unfortunately, I've gotten my son into that habit, he falls asleep to the TV too. Was I wrong in getting my 2 year old a TV already? Oh, well...

Last night's CFR - wow.
I know you can't possibly predict the future Dave, but do you think you might be playing any shows locally in June? I have time off and might be heading to LA.
Good afternoon, kids.

Man, I never expected Dave Navarro of all people to say that...! I read this article your wrote for DETAILS about 10 years ago in which you said you dropped out of high school and never had a "real" (9- 5) job?? (If my memory serves me well...) Anyway, never had a 9 to 5 job?? if I had your talent I wouldn´t either...!
unrelated topic...
Dave, I miss Lester the bat!! I love your new positive self but I do miss the darkness of old 6767...! Can´t you balance between the two?? make it grey...lol
Those old ramblings of yours were ´precious... "love in LA - the hidden monster" , "looking for God"... Not to mention that column you did w/ your cousin, "movies and crap"... So when will bring back some of that darkness/ sarcasm to us...??? A litte darkness will only make the light look brighter...! ;o) What do you say??

Hey Dave!
Haven't written much lately but neither has Shakespeare. Been to Sweden and then London but I've gone to some internet cafés just to peek what's going on in here 'cos your site simply rules!
I can't fall asleep without tv either and what makes it troublesome is that I don't have a tv in the bedroom so I often fall asleep on the living room couch.
jezzi! Just seeing your post made me smile :)
Have a good week everyone!

John, just read yesterday's thread - prayers and good thoughts sent your way!
Yesterday was pretty amazing at the school and our porduction. Two things I found out about that I think is pretty cool. One of my sister's former students is Brooke Shirey. She moved last summer to LA and got a job on Boston Legal within three weeks of the move - she is waiting for her SAG card so they can give her some lines to say, right now, she is an extra on every show - she got cast as Lisa Kudrow's body double for an upcoming reality TV show, she had a role on The West Wing. On Friday, she was too have signed with a big name Hollywood agent. Yeah Brooke - and if you catch her on the telly, she is absolutely beautiful! Last night at the cast party/awards ceremony, one of our Juniors is talking about leaving school because last year he toured as a replacement drummer with a band. Today, he was going to talk to them about becoming the permanent drummer. They already have touring booked and a possible record deal. This kid is a great kid and I wish him the best. So when you hear the name Jared Overly - you heard it hear first.
We have had a few celebrites emerge from our community just outside the pittsburgh area.
Have a great day - time to catch up on my Law & Order and everything I have taped while away this week.
Always,
me

I wish I had something better than a dial-up internet connection so I could listen to CFR. Who wants to start a fundraiser?! Yay!!! Hahaha....
Spent my whole day downloading from the downloads page. Yeah... you heard me.... WHOLE DAY. No 3 songs per 5 minutes for me. Bah.
I am done venting.

OOOOOh!
I have a few questions now.
In the version of "Stop!" off of Ritual, whose idea was it to have the woman speaking that monologue and who was the woman?
I've heard rumours before that Perry sculpted both pieces of art for the covers of Nothing's Shocking and the original cover for Ritual. True?
Who wrote the book of love?
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?
Paper or plastic?

John, I am sorry to hear those news and I actually heard last night that one of my friends of 8 years committed suicide 2 days ago. And last night, when I heard this, I was out celebrating my birthday (which is in exactly one hour now) so it was a real downer as you can imagine. I just feel so sad for the people who are in a state where they don't talk to anyone about the deep pain they are living with. And in the end, their choice hurts us for the rest of our lives. All I can think of to make this easier for me is that there was probably not much I could have done for my friend and he is probably in a better place right now. And I know he would never have done this towards all of us if it wasn't really for him his 'only way out', even though it should never be that particular way out... To sum up, may they rest in peace...

Dave..
Ok, so I am officially heartbroken. Have just gotten out of a 2 year relationship with a guy who is still attached to his mothers apron strings. A man who promised me marriage and the whole 9. I stood by his side through jail and all that!
It feels like the pain will never go away. Like there is a knife stabbing me in the heart.
What is the cure for mending a broken heart?
Sleepless nights, and lonely days.
HELP!

High,
Heres a little somthing i found on eBay about KERBDOGS first album.............(and its actually better then described)
For full transcript go to:

"HERE'S SOME STUFF I FOUND - When I got this album in '95, I'd never heard of them, but wanted to try something new, and I wasn't disappointed. When I heard "Clock," I was simply floored. Wow! These guys had something! Imagine Nirvana meets Metallica, and that should give you some idea. "Clock" and "Dry Riser" should have, by all rights, dominated the radio waves of that era. But alas, it wasn't to be. If you're interested in the music of that era, and particularly in the more innovative sounds of that time, definitely check this out....
Rock lovers hardly know them. But when you listen their music now, you realize that Kerbdog are the natural link between the so called "grunge" and "nu-metal", with a shade of pure hardcore. Alice In Chains' style reefs and back-ups, and strong guitars. Kerbdog recorded with top-producer Jack Endino (Stone Temple Pilots, and so on). There's something of Kerbdog in Deftones, Glassjaw, or Poison The Well. Kerbdog simply did it first, but nobody knows. They come from Ireland, and they released their album in the dessertic gap which flourished after Cobains death. Wrong time, wrong place, great album.
when i heard this lp for the first time i think...hey,it rocks, yeah, good rock man. this three irish people make great music middle way from therapy n?metallica, a little bit of hardcore. Great guitars n?good voices n?backing vocals. sure if you like music you like kerbdog.
Consider the chorus of lead track and single "End of Green" — the verses are noisy enough crunch and crumble that won't surprise anybody, but the choruses are something else again: peppy, heartening even, not power pop but powerful. The secret weapon is singer Cormac Battle, who sounds almost like a more immediately mainstream James Hetfield, fired up and with that sharp metal-edged bark in his voice but just that little bit calmer and winning. His ear for catchy choruses serves the band excellently throughout the album — nearly every song shifts from an often Metallica-like riff-along main section to an instantly cooler singalong section — and, unsurprisingly, the band's own work is equally inspired at those points. A little more exposure, and maybe a better placement of the band in the straight-up metal continuum it was much more a clearly a part of, and the group might well have filled arenas — Lord knows Kerbdog did the job better than Bush ever did. But such is fate.
Hailing from Kilkenny, Ireland Kerbdog are a post-grunge quartet that merges metal with the nervy, melodic roar of Husker Du. The band released their eponymous debut in 1994 on Fontana Records."
Tracks:
1. End Of Green
2. Dry Riser
3. Dead Anyway
4. Cleaver
5. Earthworks
6. Dummy Crusher
7. The Inseminator
8. Clock
9. Schism
10. Scram

Curious.......when u guys record, I know the norm is usually laying down drums, then bass, then guitars, then vocals and then some overdubs. Have you guys tried laying down drums for a song and then completing it with the rest of the tracks before moving on to another song? We just did this recently and found it to be a little easier to really get involved with a certain song and then be able to have a fresh head moving into another tune. Its also not quite so taxing on a drummer's stamina (that would be me). Just curious to how you guys approach your sessions.

Hi Everyone,
I just want to thank everyone for the advice & support about my father's suicide. I wrote that not knowing what to expect. All I knew was that I was in the most pain I've ever been in, but I never expected so much from people I don't even know. All I was doing was writing because, being a big fan ("Nothing's Shocking" changed my life) I know of Dave's tragedy so I thought maybe he'd have some insight. I'm not one of those people who thinks that rock stars can solve our problems, because I know they're just people like everyone else. Nonetheless, Dave's well-wishes & the words from all of you were amazing. Thank you all so much. You made a differance.
There's a Social Distotrion song called "Don't Take Me For Granted" that sums up everything I'm feeling. Corny, I know but true.

I don’t know. I'm more prone to falling asleep to music more than anything, its tough to sleep without it. My boyfriend needs it quiet, so that makes things interesting. If I fall asleep with the tv on it is usually on a music channel.

Hope to see you guys play in LA again real soon.

John, there are no words I could write here that would suffice...so just know that you are in my thoughts.
Dave,
Awesome CFR.
The in-studio songs were to die for. I was out last night when the show was on but I made sure to blab to my dinner companions endlessly about TPC. AND, more specifically this site and Steve's site. They are all young musicians and such. A few are going to Full Sail for "recording arts" so they were totally interested when I mentioned all of the incredible insight that you guys kindly share. And all of the details about the creative process. That is a gift, really. Well, that was after I mentioned my current addiction to Mr. Dave Navarro...THAT got their attention right away. *blush*
So expect some new visitors!
Thanks again for the re-broadcast. Made my night.
Be well,
~ Susan

i used to fall asleep to the 2nd half of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, the last song on first side of Terrapin. I though Dream On was being sung by a fat black guy as i dozed off at age ~6-7.
Nowadays the tv has a timer on it and I find it easier to doze off with the it on...i think i'm going to go back to music. More theraputic.

Question for Dave and 67'rz,
One album can be played at your funeral...what would it be?
Para mi, I want "From Dusk til Dawn" soundtrack. It has everything from country and westrn (hey I grew up around it) to bluesy jams(Mexican Blackbird!) , classical movements, and the "Pussy, Pussy, Pussy" ramblings kill me (we're slashing pussy in half!) But the rock-out-with-your- cock out tune is Tito & the Tarantulas playing "Angry Cockaroaches"! Listen to the tune, Dave and let me know if you'd ever play it on stage!
Fuck yea, better than some Barry Manilow bullshit! Find your Father in his music, John.

To Jess and anyone who is curious about the Y100 radio station and why it was taken off air...
WPLY 100.3FM (aka Y100) was a Philadephia-based modern rock station and had a run of 12 (I think, at least 10 for sure) years. In those years, they helped raise 400 tons of food and over $400,000 in donations via their "Camp Out for Hunger" and "Sonic Session" campaigns. They've held more than 150 Sonic Sessions (acoustic jams for a very private audience of little more than 50 people from big name bands), held 8 FEZtivals (music festivals where they'd give out Fez hats - think Morrocco Mole and Secret Squirrel) and 8 FEASTivals (Thanksgiving-themed festivals).
They would also go to extreme lengths to help local Philadelphia-based bands. They would host battles of bands at local pubs and bars and would often play these otherwise obscure bands on their airwaves, exposing them to all of the Philly area. They were an amazing service to the Philadelphia rock scene and to charities.
As far as I know (emphasis on that... I don't know for sure - all I know is specualtion and rumour!), the reason they were taken off air was because the parent company, Radio One, decided that the Philadelphia radio scene was geared more toward urban attitudes - hip-hop, r&b, rap. They replaced "Y100" with "The Beat," a station that was already established at 103.9FM.
A petition has been set up and has received a buttload of signs (including my own). At last check it was over 51,000 (March 7th 11:30AM EST)! Also, an online radio station has been set up for them at www.y100rocks.com.
If you are in the Philadelphia area, strike that...
If you are a fan of rock music, and don't want it to die out anywhere, Philadelphia's rock scene begs you, sign the petition at Y100rocks.com!

much love... D from SJ
** As a ray of hope, the last song played on Y100 before shutting down midnight 2/24, Pearl Jam - "Alive" **

QUOTE:
Dave, You should check out this book if you haven't already. It is powerful! Dharma Punx by Noah Levine http://www.dharmapunx.com/

Another good one I just started reading: The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Everyone that has read it says it is life-changing.

Hey Emma -
Thanks for the advice. I couldn't agree more! I'm actually not having a bad day at all; it's a beautiful day and I'm happy to be alive. I'm just having a hard time getting the motivation to work after such a lovely weekend full of family, friends, food, drink, love, relaxation, and other great stuff. But I'm slowly easing into the work day and the juices are starting to flow...
Cheers,
Denise

One more thing...
Tonya, thanks for the link. There are a bunch of books I want to get, and this might be one of them. One of these days, I'm going to hit the bookstore and go on a major shopping spree. (I'm not really an amazon.com kinda person. I enjoy the shopping/browsing experience, especially in a bookstore. There's something soothing and magical about it.)

i'm still pissed that the girl eva won last season on Top Model. eva has the worst attitude and is like 4'6". ya ya was a lot better looking and had better pictures. and amanda looked great in pictures. you could tell janice was pissed when tyra kicked off amanda, but they wanted a black girl to win it last year.
anyhow, this is kinda funny but i caught newlyweds the other day and the hunka hunka burnin' love nick lachey, in his big football player's physique was stuffed into a vintage long sleeve t of the band "The Cult". isn't that great...i'm sure it cost $250 at Kitson or one of those lame ass stores in LA that overcharge you for crappy quality t shirts.

Hey Dave, I've been away for a day and I missed this so much!! I love the way you answer everyone's questions (not trying to kiss ass or anything here...)
Anyway, I've just joined a band with a couple of friends from school, what advice do you have for getting started and everything? We are having loads of trouble finding a guitarist which is unusual but hopefully we'll find someone soon. I hope you're ok and find the time to answer my question!
One more thing, I'm working on some artwork that I would like to show you, would I be able to post a link here for you to see or where else would I post it if not here?
Thanks alot,
Be Well,
Rosie xxx
