Mid-Week

So my wife is working on the sitcom, "Joey", for the week. She is deep in read throughs and rehearsals and all that. She does a lot of this guest star stuff on TV. She comes home the other day and says, "Dave, you'll never guess who is on this show I'm doing!" "Who?" I ask.
"Madchen Amick."
"My second favorite girl in the world? No Way!"
She proceeds to tell me how she has asked Madchen if I can call her from the radio show one week and she appears to be into it. What a wife, man. Hooking a brotha up!

Madchen there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Madchen all the people
living for today...

So, that might happen which is really exciting. Either way, my wife rules for even trying.

Another day of rock rehearsal. We have finished three new songs. Awake, Tea House of the Spirits and Blue Bruises. We begin tracking on Monday! The final weeks.

1. Future Goals of every member of the band:

I can't speak for everyone, but for me, to be creative and happy.

2. Personal Achievements of every member in the band:

My personal favorites are the Ritual Album, my marriage and putting down the drugs.

3. If you didn't make it as a “rockstar what would you have wanted to be?

A film maker.

4. Dave, do you prefer to be a guitarist in a band or guitarist and singer on your own?

I had a great time doing my solo record and plan to do more someday, but my favorite thing to do is simply be a guitarist in a band.

I am happy for you,Dave! Carmen is awesome :) Have a great day

Dave would you put any unreleased or b-side material for the album out on something like iTunes before the official release date?

Posted by: Schwing at March 9, 2005 09:42 AM

Film maker huh... Are we talking about amature star wars movies that end up on the net?

Does anyone know where i can find that clip. That was the shit!

Dave... Who makes the necklace you wear and is it two chains or one really long one?

Thanks in advance,
Pony

Dave, my dear sweet man. You sound so excited about Madchen, and Carmen is incredible for trying to set this up.

I just have to smack you around a bit now. Sometimes you seem to forget that you are a STAR baby! I think it is so cute that you get excited about meeting people like this but really, how could she NOT agree to talk to you?

I'm not trying to kiss your ass, but it is well established that the majority of the female population finds you to be a beautiful creature (and the rest are blind or plain stupid). You are talented, intelligent, funny, and interesting. CFR is great and certainly wouldn't hurt her career.

If Madchen decides not to, she is fucking insane.

Have a nice day Dave and the rest of you!

Hey Dave

You gotta love an understanding wife. Mine lets me collaborate musically with a female friend of mine and is cool with it. I guess it's all based on trust and not abusing it. She also thinks you're hot which shows she has good taste - but then again she also thinks Carmen's hot too which means she has really good taste.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Did you realize Dave that Madchen looks very much like your wife? Do you think that purhaps thats why you find her so attractive.. I think your wife totally kicks her ass though :)

dave, what's your favourite dance? i see you as a 'bump and grind' kinda fella. though i wouldn't be too shocked to see you salsa-ing down the street.

i have a dance named after me. only i can do it, so it's fitting.

i booekd my trip round the world the opther day. and today i booked a trip to borneo. you can meet me there if you want. i will buy you a coke. i'm there end of september if you're not busy

Good morning Every1 in 67Land.

Dave, you really are an unbelievably blessed guy, all that talent, and by the looks of it a wife in a gazillion!

If you could answer my Q about JAF and OHM(Blender) it would be even more awesome.

Have an amazing rest of the week, best wishes to Perky,Chaney & Isaac's.

That is crazy about Madchen. I was way into her when I was in college, kept the twin peaks poster on the dorm walls. Watched all of her b-movies. She is da woman. Thanks to ER she's back in the public's eye. I am sick of my friends not knowing who it is I speak of.

What would your first question to her be?

Posted by: drumwhore at March 9, 2005 10:15 AM

Hi -

Very good points, Jenniffer. :)

Seriously, it sounds like that will be an interesting CFR show. Good for you, Dave, that wifey is supportive of your crushes. I'm sure Carmen on "Joey" will be fun too. I don't usually watch it, but I might tune in for that. Carmen + Drea = 2 super-cool, beautiful chicas.

Have a lovely day. May everyone who's "frozen in" today stay safe and warm. Let's hope that Spring arrives soon.

Ritual did... things to my head... it´s like...once you listen to it you can never go back... it was just so intense... but still Nothing´s Shocking is my favorite... (I mean how can you have a favorite between two perfect records??) I don´t know but Nothing´s Shocking was the first one for me (although Ritual was already out)... anyway... jane´s music took me through a very dark and twisted path with occasional burts of sunlight... her nose is pepper sunlight... but of course this land is dangerous... and all that...

I love you Dave. Thanks again. your music gave me so f*cking much it´s almost not fair. the price of a record is nothing when you´re buying something that´s gonna ressonate inside your very soul as long as you live. Love you, man.

peace
Luiz.

hey dave, what do you think about old-school blues guitarists? i'm a big fan of robert johnson (hence the nickname), was he ever on your radar screen?

on a sidenote for dave or anyone else, check out leona naess if you want something mellow and just incredible singing. http://www.leonanaess.com, you use to be able to listen to part of her self titled album on there (which is the only one to listen to as far as i'm concerned). the girl is incredible. she did "ballerina" on the sharon osbourne show once, just a piano playing, killer stuff.

OK Madchen Amick. I couldn't put the name to a face but I did a google on Yahoo and know I remember her from Twin Peaks one of my all time favorite shows. I don't blame you Madchen is a beauty. I'll try and catch CFR this weekend when you call her if I can.

Willie - I just caught Leona live a few months back - was a really good show - Diana Ross was there which we thought was weird but when we looked it up the next day apparently she had been married to Leona Naess' father - Just some useless trivia - Sean

Posted by: Sean at March 9, 2005 11:30 AM

spose I havent really glanced over here recently, since I got no responce to my painfully polite non apparal related question as to whether the piano parts from the Rituel songs were available anywhere or whether the keyboard guy from the last Jane's tour who caused the split up was willing to share them.I listened to the channal tracks available and its still the same, lacking and uninspired. Not even inspiring enough to provoke a rant,so I guess I'm growing huh?
Anyway I just wanted to say that I love rituel too, dont know why, just had the urge to share.
and that when Perrys singing shadows of the morning light... your guitar part is luminous.that probably doesnt make much sense but I guess I just kinda think that when all parts combine the music resonates and conveys a pretty spectacular image.
guess I just wanted to say thanks for that.

i love that Ritual is one of your greatest achievments... its funny cause most Janes fans say that Nothings Shocking is the best record but for me its always been about Ritual. hat record IS Los Angeles. my favorite rock record of all time.

Posted by: gigantor at March 9, 2005 12:19 PM

Hi everyone!

Dave, thanks for answering my question on Sat, very cool of you to answer my first post, and on my birthday none the less. Thanks

Luiz - I think you hit it on the head. Shocking and Ritual are two nearly perfect albums. I am not a religeous person, but have always said that going to a Janes show in the late 80's early nineties was like going to church for me. Knowing what I know now I would spend damn near any amount of money for those albums.

On that note I have another question for you dave.

Why, in your opinion, do so many bands put out very good first albums and then either disappear or never attain the perfection that they achieved on their freshmen efforts.

I have my own suspicions, but would love to hear your take on it.

Anyway, hope everyone has a good day!
This is a very cool forum, glad to have found it!!

Hi Dave!
Did you know that "Madchen" is a german word? It's not a name. If you spell it correctly it's "Mädchen", the translation into english is "Girl".
I don't know if anybody posted this already but I thought it could be interesting for you.
Rock on!

This is senseless for me to even think that you might get to read this at any time but oh well it's worth a try considering there are already 33 comments as it is. I'm doing a research project on you right now for school ( don't ask it took me a couple tries to deicide if you were narrow enough) and I can't seem to find any really good and possibly true information on you. I know you're really busy with Carmen and everything but if you could give me a website that has the best info on you, that would be awesome! If you get a chance..that would really help, so much. I haven't been able to check out this site in something like 28 hours - I am going through withdrawal! And I will be going to WDW for a week soon - no laptop - what am I going to do?!?!?!?!?!!!!! And I won't hardly get to look at this site for the next couple of days . . .

One reason is the computers at work got fried! We won't have a new system running until Friday - that is what they told us this morning.

And speaking of Friday, I will only be at work for a couple of hours because I have to go to a funeral. My Uncle David died unexpectedly yesterday morning. He had his foot operated on as he suffers from acute arthritis - we think he got a blood clot. Not only was he a gifted musician, but a wonderful artisan and owned a stained glass restoration business. He was a civil war re-enactor and one of the craziest people you would want to meet. My father is having a tough time with this - my dad and he were the youngest of 6 kids. My uncle just turned 60 at Christmas. RIP . . .

Lots of family coming in for the funeral. I will be chauffering alot.

Peace everyone . . .

Always,
me

That is really cool of Carmen! I remember Madchen from a terrible Steven King movie - Sleepwalkers. I watched it over and over just because she was so beautiful - and I'm straight! Never caught Twin Peaks, so that's pretty much all I know her from. You're too funny, D.

A question that is probably silly, as there may be pictures in the book that I'm forgetting, or it may have been answered before: Has Carmen ever been in the booth? Or were you cautious of the whole booth bad mojo vibe?

Further to Mollys post here earlier, " Whether the keyboard guy from the last Janes tour that caused the split up was willing to share them"

In the state of the union Post, the reasons fo the split were given as "Some old issues, some new issues, none worth mentioning"

Can anyone shed any light then on what Molly said....

Dave

Music for a long road trip? Or just for driving around? Did you get an adapter so you can hook the IPOD up in the ride??

Posted by: Juanjay at March 10, 2005 05:05 AM

Juanjay,

I have had my ipod for about a year now, and you can do a couple of different things to connnect it to your car.
You can get a cradle to plug your ipod into which connects hardwired to your stereo. Not sure how much it costs. 2nd- a company named griffin technology has a fm transmitter called the itrip. All you need is an empty fm frequency and you can transmit your music directly to that frequency. It's about 40$. Works well as long as there is little interference in the station.
Hope it helps.

for those of you who remember a few days ago, they caught the person who robbed my house, and i feel really bad. it was a woman, who is an addict and being in recovery for (most likely) the same thing as what she was stealing for, i don't want this girl to go to jail. i want her to get some help, y'know? dave, any thoughts on this? i'm not thrilled that i have been paranoid and really anal w/my wife and keeping the house locked to the max, and stuff, but i knew the whole time that this was a junkie looking for quick cash. we'll see but it just makes me think of how fucked up drugs are. i am so happy to be rid of them. that's why i come here, because of the vibe. see y'all. darin.

Posted by: sonicdeath at March 10, 2005 09:20 AM

Sonicdeath, I understand that your impulse reaction is one of pity, however the very nature of addiction is that this woman will do WHATEVER it takes to get her next fix..... I hope that the courts deal with her leaniently...But don't feel bad about being a victim.

I worked for 18 monts straight building a house for my Fiancee and I, only to be burgled a week before moving in. The fella that done it was a known junkie, but he was also an informer for the local cops and they basically told me he was of too much value to them on the streets and he walked for his crime(He did mysteriously get beaten up a few months later though!!)
nothing too do with me? :-)

Sonic Death-Im glad you got your belongings back! As addicts we always seem to have that inner tie to others even those in active addiction. Drugs ultimatly lead to jails institutions and death. Better jail/legal problems than death. She could have overdosed from your microwave! (pawn money) I hope she seeks help, my friend just got a year clean and was introduced to the program in jail. Thats what it took for him. So anyway...its outta your control. I hate the whole powerless thing. (Written like a sponsor)

Ylais-can I join in? Im not a panic agent..that takes like a billion posts! Is there gonna be a chat time?

Cori-thanks for the birthday thread..that was so nice.

Thanks to Dave and everyone for the posts and wishs. March 6th the night before my b-day at 3:15 am my dad woke me up screaming at me(junky fuck,ECT) all because I lit inscense while reading. He figured I was celebrating with crack, pot or pcp and covering up the smell. Ruined the day, and emphasised how little trust I have after 8 months clean from heroin. I rent an apt from him...a duplex house...some respect/no sleep. Sucked. you guys are so nice, my dad should take notes from yall!

Today I saw some guy at the clinic beating the shit outta his dog for over a minute. I got his liscense plate. When I did he saw and we got into a verbal fight. He was twice my size, and Im pretty big. He said that "I dont know what was going on" Im nervious to make a complaint..theres some crazy fucks in the world, especially Hartford at a Methadone clinic where I could cross paths with this person any day. Im still a little nervous.. I did my part but still wish I could do more. Open to suggestions. I feel bad for that pit bull, I hope he gets bit, they have locking jaws! Hartfords the type of city where people die daily for the stupidest shit. Stuff like the situation today.

Mike told Howard that he was out at a bar at 4 in the morning drinking some Jack Daniels Old Fashioned and he was still drunk this morning when he came in. Howard had him start his Gossip Game a short time later. Here's how the game goes... Each week Mike Walker calls in with four gossip stories. Three of the stories are from his National Enquirer gossip column. One of the stories is false. Everyone tries to pick out the false story. The stories will appear in Mike's gossip column each week after he plays with Howard. Here are this week's stories:

1. Madonna was asked to be a presenter at the Academy Awards but turned it down since she thought it was basically a Beyonce infomercial since she got to sing 3 songs during the show.
2. Carmen Electra went to get a bikini wax but ended up screaming when they put witch hazel on her instead of the usual aloe vera. She's allergic to the witch hazel.
3. Barbra Streissand was distracted by flashes as she was getting ready to go on stage at The Academy Awards. She demanded that the photographers stop taking her picture. She was told they weren't taking her picture, they were taking Jamie Foxx's picture. She was so thrown off that she forgot her glasses back stage and couldn't read the winner for Best Picture.
4. Paris Hilton refused to tell a doorman at a building who she was there to see. The doorman wouldn't let her in until she told him so she called her driver and had him take care of the problem by giving the doorman the information he was looking for.

Howard went with story 4, Robin picked 3, Artie picked 1 and Fred and the caller both picked story 2 as the fake one. The actual false story was number two.

Yeah! #2 was my guess as well. :)

Boots,
looks like you might be someone I should talk to. My boyfriend just recently got put back in rehab for heroine use, been an on and off again problem for about 4 years, spent some time in jail, was on parole when he got caught this time. One problem is that he keeps going back to live in the same area and hanging out with all the same people and the cycle is bound to start all over again. I'm heartborken over all this, distraught is a better description!

do you have any advise for someone on this side of the
needle?

It's hard to trust when the trust has been broken over and over and over again. I truly have hope for him, I plan on going to some Nar-anon meetings this week to help myself deal with this, but I thought I'd try to get some advise from the addicts side. Hope i'm not offending, I'm trying to everything I can to make the best of this situation.

Posted by: sweetmelis at March 10, 2005 03:26 PM

P.S. happy belated birthday! Koodos to you for being drug free!

Posted by: sweetmelis at March 10, 2005 03:28 PM

Hey Dave.
So, you said that if you wern't a "rockstar" you would want to be a film maker... So my question is, What's stopping you? You should direct something. Maybe a short film, extreamly independant, and be artsy about it. Also, any more acting on the horizon?

Posted by: elockram at March 10, 2005 03:31 PM

DAVE!!!!! pssst...where's the pic?

jezzi(resistant to change)

Posted by: jezebel at March 10, 2005 05:00 PM

sweetmelis,
i am not speaking for boots(cause he does give good advice) but i am a recovering addict also, and i can tell you just a couple things that maybe you've already heard, but i did go through in-patient rehab and learned some things that i can share, and boots you can jump right in. in rehab, one of the main things that they stress is that you change PPT, people, places, and things. so you are right on about him going back to his neighborhood because birds of a feather... it is much easier to use a drug like herion when you surround yourself w/other users, to lessen the guilt and rationalize that maybe 'this guy is worse off than i am so...'. that is a really hard habit to break, and it is really difficult to cut ties w/people like that, unless you really focus on getting clean and start to find some happiness in sobriety. then it becomes easier because you don't feel that comradery with them that you used to. and the trust thing...
it's been over a year for me, but slowly i am building up the trust that i had betrayed w/family friends, my wife. it will come back to you too when you start to notice changes in your boyfriend. you know, reading dave's book, anthony keidis' book, this website, all of these people who i've looked up to for like 15 years went through this same thing, and it keeps me in check because they have made it through and look how great they're doing now. it's a kind of therapy, and if your boyfriend committs to recovery, i'm sure he will find these little things(whatever suits him) to look forward to and feel good about also. you can get some tips by going to NA meetings, from counselors there on how to deal with the recovery of a loved one. this is a tough addiction, it is a full time job for any herion addict. but eventually you learn that all the joy, energy, creativity, laughter, etc. that you feel when you're high, none of it's real.... it's all a mask. and once you stay clean, and really feel true happiness once again it's like nothing in the world can compare. it is simply amazing. i hope you feel better, and i hope your boyfriend finds peace within himself to start his recovery. you can email me anytime if you would like to talk further. hope this helped a little. SD

Dear SweetMelis: well before I tell ya anything, Ill tell ya I dont have the answer. Its bundled up somewhere in your boyfriend and not 10 bags of dope. Also, I did dope all through college and became a substance abuse counselor in New Haven while being an active junky. Id bring clients to outpatient treatment centers which are mainly in drug infested neighborhoods in a state vehicle and then cop/buy drugs around the corner. I stopped counseling over 3 years ago when I started trying to get clean, and havent returned. I have 8 months clean now, with the help of methadone and aa. (A controversial method of sobriety-but has gotten my life on track and back to happy states of mind). If ya want some advice, send me an email. There are so many perspectives on getting people clean...psychologists,doctors, therapist, social workers, methadone clinics-they are all there to help-but they all have different opinions in my experience. Id never turn you down, and not offer some information.....email me if ya like. I believe in whats called an individualized treatment plan as a social worker-but this is my opinion. I can only share with you my experience, strength and hope as they say so send me an address and of course Ill do my best. I dont have the answer, but never give up because someone does. Ultimatly its your boyfriend, hopefully some guidance can lead him to that solution or he will stumble on it alone. It sounds like he has some support if he chooses.

Keep your head up, and let me know how to help. Ill need as much guidance to understand, as Ill be able to give so it will be a mutual effort! Does that make sense?

Sincerly
