Friday

Still in the writing process and coming up with some new jams. We have written three new songs to track on the 14th now as we have pushed back our recording schedule a week. It turns out we were asked to loan our producer, Brian "Gummo" Virtue, to another band while they mix. We were more than happy to oblige as we can always use the time to work out any kinks in the tunes and get them as solid as possible. You know what they say, "Fail to prepare, prepare to fail." It aint so great when you are in the studio without a solid direction. So far we have done all of our writing in the rehearsal studio and done all of our preproduction before tracking. I have been involved with records that have been primarily written in the studio and there is always a lack of cohesiveness in the outcome. Not to say that they were bad records, they just don't sound fully realized. OHM was a lot like that to me. A great record, but we did most of it in the studio and to me, it sounds like it. We just don't want to go "fishing" when we get in there. Arrangements, lyrics, melodies, dynamics... done.

New Camp Freddy Radio tomorrow with special guests, Steve Isaacs and John Claydon.

Hey Dave,

If you could get a call from anyone tomorrow for a guest appearance, who would it be?

Posted by: Six7Six7 at March 4, 2005 11:42 AM

reread the comments regarding writing and realizing and rehearsing before heading into the studio to record; quite interesting. i don't think most musicians are afforded the luxury of realizing songs in the recording studio ($); that seems to be an interesting foot note to being an established band or musician.

late.

I agree with your studio assesement Dave. I have recorded with bands very shortly after the songs were written and six months later after playing everything out dozens of times the songs were so much stronger. I am actually almost embarrased about the recordings of some of my parts because they later sounded weak to me with the songs being so new when recorded. Some argue the "fresh" aspect though, not wanting to record when the song has become stale to the band. It's all a matter of balance I suppose.

Hi Dave this is my first time so be gentle with me.

When you play a cover song how do you play the guitar solo, is it a loose interpretation or do you play it as written?

I hope you put the show on the little radio so those of us who have to work tomorrow night can hear the show later!

Thanks for the update, Dave!!!

Always,

have a great weekend guys and girls. my house was robbed on wednesday so i am a little freaked out and not sleeping well. hopeful that i can catch up this weekend. luckily me and my wife weren't home, and they didn't hurt my dogs so it could be worse. it's a really strange feeling though to know someone was going through all of your shit! anyway i am going to see artie lange do stand-up tonight, so i am sure that will bring a smile to my face. take care!

Posted by: sonicdeath at March 4, 2005 12:19 PM

Are you gonna put tomorrow's CFR on the Panic Channel Radio? I don't think I'll be able to listen, but I really wanna hear Steve on the show.

Posted by: americanzer0 at March 4, 2005 12:19 PM

Tonto - are you in the UK? If so then LA would be 8 hours behind you. Also, look at the time stamp when you post a message here - I think it timestamps on LA time.

Sonicdeath..

Sorry to hear about your house, if you find out who it was you could always $6:25 them!
$4 for a gas can
$2 worth of gas
25c for a box of matches :-)

Hello crew-

Last night I had a dream that I went bowling with a bunch of "friends". I walked in with said group in tow and announced at the counter that the "6767 gang was here". None of my regular everyday in-person friends were in the dream, just a bunch of different faces, but everyone knew each other. Anyway, I went on and bowled awesome, striking in every frame and when I went to bowl my last ball to shoot for the perfect 300, my ball had mysteriously disappeared (perhaps taken by a mischievious Dave?), and I was pissed and searched everywhere for the ball and couldn't find it.

That's when I woke up. I'd be interested in any interpretations.

Have a fantastic weekend all. Oh yeah they just announced a VR date. Finally!

Placebo well and truly rocks... their Sleeping with ghosts album is just so much joy... Bitter End, Taste in Men, Slacker Bitch... cripes, know what I have to listen to on the Dell Jukebox today...

Mars Volata followed by Placebo. Complex emo music day

Hey Dave,

Thanks for the update. Do you ever feel like you've fully completed a song? There's the line that art is never finish, it's abandoned. I'm wondering how close to what you hear in your head do you get.

Have a great weekend everybody.

First time for me as well.

Wanted to personally thank whomever it is that archives the Camp Freddy shows and formats them for the PC Flash player. It's a wonderful service that no one should take for granted.

Also, Dave thought you might dig this...MESSY in comics!

Hi Dave....In response to your "Friday" post about writing in the studio vs. having it worked out before hand....Wasn't "Strays" written in the studio?

thanks,
aron

ps-Just listenned to the "Kettle Whistle" version of "Three Days". Its just everything music should be rolled into one....one of my all time favorites! You can die happy having (partly) created something so beautiful.

S.Death-so sorry to hear about your house. Rough neighborhood? I used to live with that fear in my 1st apt in New Haven. It was on the first floor.....the screens on the windows were all cut out in the corners from people bustin in before I moved in. I definately have empathy for ya. I sleep with a bat under my bed even to this day in a quiet neighborhood. It helps me sleep, protect yourself and your fear seems to lessen. Oh, do yourself a favor and dont watch scary movies for a while. Maybe Im paranoid? Regardless, sorry to hear that shit.

My question again.....lots of Howard Stern fans out there? Will everybody switch to Serius? Do ya'll think its the future of radio? I really dig what the dude does!

Creep-you check the tour dates out?
Jezzi-Ill be sending "The Will to Death"

Any chance that TPC will do Ozz-fest? The line up should be out in the next two weeks I hear. Ive never been.

LOL

It's really cool to get the opportunity to get a peek at the process through your eyes. It feels like we've watched the creative journey every step of the way. Thanks for sharing the experience.

Sonicdeath, I am so sorry to hear about your break in. Hang in there!

Hello Dave and Family!!

Dave- thanks for sharing all of this with us... it is cool to hear all about the whole process.... it also will make the album that much more special since we know how it all went down like we were in the studio with you :)

QQQ- Quite a cool dream. It would be neat if we could all meet up at one place....well and to have Panic play just for us :)

Posted by: karrie at March 4, 2005 07:15 PM

It could happen Karrie, a 6767 party hosted by D.Navarro. Too bad it wouldnt be on the East Coast, but Id definatly go. It would be nice to put faces to the names...like Sonic Death.....ImDead....CreepyLoser. Sometimes I picture us as the Adams family....so goth....Id stick out like a turd in a punch bowl!

Have a sponsor like Delta n send out invites that not only gotcha in but also were plane tickets to the event! Yep, im buggin.....Basquiat was a good movie tonight, back to reality. Anyone think Cory Feldmans a creep in search of attention from the media with his Michael Jackson statement. He got a bunch of hype, the most since the Goonies, and really didnt even say anything substantial. "Looking back on the order of events, it occured to me that maybe he is guilty" What a "Goonie little fucker"! Just my opinion, got one?

Awesome thoughts on getting together.

Either way, the dream tells me on some level that the group is a vital part of the psyche, even if during sleep. WHOA! Settle down now!

In the end, it's like winning the lottery. Probably won't happen, but dreaming about it for a bit is almost as good!

have a lovely night!

hey family

wow, i had a cool night lastnight. i went to a party at a local club where the theme was "models covered in oil who wrestle and pillow fight"!

it was awesome, as we entered the club there were 6 models in latex police uniforms, and the first thing they said to me was, "spread em!" ofcourse i did and before i had even entered the club i had been frisked by the models...AWESOME!

then came the girls hitting each other with pillows while wearing skimpy items of clothing...Mmmmmm, nice!

what a night, i just wanted to brag quickly, lol, it was awesome!

Dave n Family: Seen the movie "Ray"-I never knew he had a dope problem! I wonder if he was friends with Miles Davis? Anyone know? I saw Ray Charles in 2002 (I believe it was anyway) on the New Haven green during the summer Arts and Ideas festival. So glad I went, it was even free. They also had Harry Belefonte and the Roots that year! I dig ?uest Loves drum style, and definatly try to mimick it when behind a kit!

SonicDeath: wishin ya a good day, your in my thoughts and prayers. Do you still have your music collection? Ill send ya some cds if ya like to keep your mood up. Lemme know what types of stuff ya dig on? Ya dig on swine?

20 Questions....
1.Anyone know how Courtney Love is doin?
2.Again, will people switch to Serius radio to be able to tune into Howard Stern?
3.Should I check out "Ray"?
4. Anyone got any recording equipment they would part with? Had to ask!
5.Should I combine questions 6-20 into one question?
6-20. Was that a good idea?

Sincerly,

Mr. Boots

Hey Everyone! Happy Saturday!

SonicDeath, so sorry to hear about the break-in. :( That's such a violation, so unnerving.

Interesting dream, QQQ. Too bad about losing the ball, though. What does a bowling ball represent to you? Something to ponder... Anyhow, I'd love to get together w/ everyone and go bowling. Maybe we can do that at the Hard Rock someday. LOL.

Boots - To answer your question about Sirius, I wouldn't rush to get it JUST to listen to Howard Stern. (I enjoy the show once in a while, and I LOVE Artie, but it sometimes gets old... Strippers, lesbians, blah blah blah...) But if I ever get a new sound system or new car, I would love to get satellite radio for a number of reasons, including the different music channels and stuff.

Anyhow, have a great day, everyone.

Love,
Denise

Boots~~~~you goof!!! Good morning to you!

Dave!!! Hi, good morning to you, I am completely stoked about tonight's CFR! Steve Isaacs INNA HOUSE!!!

Family, thanks for all the good wishes, had a wonderful time last night with my son, off to go shopping today, hopefully my sanity will survive the boy's driving, and the choice of radio stations..

jezzi(Go HEAT!!!)

Posted by: jezebel at March 5, 2005 09:31 AM

Jezzi-from now on its "Mr. Boots" My friends 8 year old son calls me that, its so funny. Heat??? I wish women went into heat kinda like cats....maybe they do? Just not around me! How are you liking the preview so far from the web site. On Monday Ill mail the cd, its all packaged and ready to go to the post office.

Dave-where you friends with Bradley Nowell? Any chances of TPC touring with Long Beach Dub All-Stars. What ever happened to Krist Novecelic's band with their drummer? Ive heard it fell to pieces, and Krist isn't feeling like being in a band for a while. I really admire that dude, wouldnt he be fun to be on stage with when TPC starts playing out! Was there ever talk of him being a Foo Fighter? I like what D.Grohl is doin these days too. I hope him and Courtney can some day see each other with clearer/less hostile perspectives.

Dave-have you listened to any of J. Frusciantes solo albums? You have solo work too? Is it something I could get my hands on for a listen/preview?

"Rotate the Earth and make its blocks spin with chaos"-wiseman on PCP

Sinceramente
