Sunday 10
OK. Here's the deal. When Blink pulled out of the show, we were told that they had broken up. It made sense to us because it was an important show for an important cause. You're right. I shouldn't repeat things that aren't confirmed and I apologize to the band and their fans. Honestly, it was a mistake. I am glad to hear that the news is untrue. Anyway, moving on...
1. When you gave up using substances, how did you hang out with friends that still used?
Well, I wasn't much of a social user, so I really didn't hang out with many people at the time. I was more of a locked up in the house kind of user.
2. Have you thought about funding your new band with your own money instead of having to deal with a record label?
So far, that is what we have done, as there is no "official" deal at the present time.
3. Has anything really embarrassing ever happened to you while you're on stage?
I fell into the audience a couple of times, but that was more fun than embarrassing.
4. Dave, on "Slow Motion Sickness" what did you use for that background distorted pulsing sound?
That is an ARP 2600. It looks like this:
5. Who does most of the lyric writing in the band?
Steve Isaacs does it all.
6. Will the new TPC record feature an appearance by the vibrator?
The vibrator makes a guest appearance on a song called, "Ashes".
7. OK, how about top five places for a 'anything goes' Sunday?
Well, I'm on a delivery kick lately, so my top 5 would be, at least today: 1. Domino's 2. Domino's 3. Domino's 4. Domino's 5. Domino's
8. I know this is a bitch of a question but do you think the Panic Channel's album will be better than Strays?
No man, to me, albums are kind of like children, I love all of them.
9. Another question, what was your personal opinion on Strays?
I had a great time making Strays and I really love the record. I agree with Eric Avery, in that it didn't really sound like the old Jane's, but I think it was the best "New Jane's" work. I guess I can only compare it to the songs, "So What" and "Kettle Whistle" on the Kettle Whistle album. As much as I like those songs, Strays just sounded like a more cohesive band.
10. Robbie Williams doing Camp Freddy? how the fuck did that ever come about?
He and Billy are longtime friends.

I think it bis so cool of you to answer these questions, and I also think some people went waayy overboard in that last post. Have a great day Dave

Hey Dave,
Will the new TPC record feature an appearance by the vibrator?
Posted by: Six7Six7 at February 20, 2005 10:59 AM
How have your musical influences changed from the first Jane's album until now? I assume they're more diverse, but if you were to give your top 5 influences from the early Jane's days compared to your top 5 now, what would they be?
Posted by: Jamie Greer at February 20, 2005 11:01 AM
What makes you think it would joe? I never heard about that before.
I think if there are going to be pictures of the band anywhere on the covers Dave should wear his druggie hat in appreciation of the Druggie Hat Crué.

Thanks for clearing that up (about Blink). It's crazy how fast rumors can spread, even when innocent.

So Dave, are you blessed with those great eyebrows or do you have to do some tweaking to them to keep them so awesomely shaped?
Posted by: Tammi at February 20, 2005 11:36 AM
Dave, question
...what is Matt Chamberlain doing now? what other projects other than TNO has he done? i was listening to TNO again, and his drumming is hell of a good! i would love to hear more of what he has done!

Wow! Two and a half days without a computer and so much to catch up on! Fifteeen minutes to check in.
It sounds like it was still a truly awesome concert! Wish I was there!
Dave, thank you for sharing all of this with us!

Sorry, I missed something. What is the "vibrator"?
Posted by: Mike at February 20, 2005 11:57 AM
Dave, about how old is your "inner child"?
Posted by: Cori at February 20, 2005 12:01 PM
I know this is a bitch of a question but do you think the Panic Channel's album will be better than Strays?
Do you at all consider it to be the follow-up to Strays? In your own mind at least.
Posted by: Wilson at February 20, 2005 12:01 PM
Another question, what was your personal opinion on Strays? I don't think I've read or heard anything you've said about the album itself.
Posted by: Wilson at February 20, 2005 12:02 PM
domino's, nice... actually I've never had pizza from there. shocking!
just one question, mon ami... Robbie Williams doing Camp Freddy? how the fuck did that ever come about?

Hi Dave & friends!
Mike - Re: the vibrator. If you look up some older articles about Dave and his guitar playing, you will learn that he and a few other guitarists use vibrators and other devices to create groovy, demented, otherworldly sounds with their instruments. (Sometimes, as we know, they use them for other things as well. LOL) You'll find these articles at some of the Dave/JA sites.
Dave - Have you ever had the buffalo chicken nuggets from Domino's? They are slamming!!
I had them for the first time the other night while hanging out (drinking) with friends. It was really late, and the only thing open was Domino's delivery. So they ordered a lot of everything. I think the pies themselves are awful compared to the ones you get at a regular NY pizzeria, but in the middle of the night, who cares? LOL I DID like bacon cheeseburger pie. Surprisingly good.
On that note, have a lovely, yummy, fulfilling day!

soph...i haven't had dominos either...i mean coming from nyc...i'm spoiled with nyc pizza lol...no need for dominos lol
question for dave: what's your favorite pizza topping?
i know there are some weird ones out there like pineapple or something...just curious as to what yours would be.
happy sunday! much love!

Its my first year in highschool and im ratehr pessimistic about my abilities as a student of rock...any recomendations on how to develope a more unique style? oh and should i take lessons? i ve never done that...haha, looking for a protege? hit me up! thanks dave.
Posted by: bryce at February 20, 2005 12:37 PM
would some of you please quit your bitching? Save the drama for your mamma.
I feel like it needs to be said though - I find it quite rude that some of you choose to come on here and call Dave all sorts of things because of one little typed thing. It's not like he totally trashed Blink or anything. He wanted to jam with them. He said "supposedly" which means he isn't 100% sure, just something he heard. He was nice enough to apologize and say it was the wrong info, and I only think it right that some of you apologize for what you said about him. I don't think the Blink guys would like knowing that a few of their fans are giving the majority a bad name with their behavior on here.
If there is any musician out there that deserves respect, it is Dave Navarro. He's out there promoting community amongst musicians with Camp Freddy and doing charity shows. He just wants to play music and show people a good time. And if you don't like it, you don't have to waste your time coming on here.
my 2 cents that nobody asked for but I don't give a sh#@

Thanks for clearing that up about Blink! I really appreciate it.
Posted by: chels at February 20, 2005 12:55 PM
Dave, is there anyone you would love to have perform with Camp Freddy that hasn't yet?
You Blink 182 fans need to chill out. You are wicked cool for bitching on the internet at Dave, makes it so easy to hide behind a computer screen...By bitching about a dumb rumor you are not making Blink 182 or their fans look good.
Posted by: Bridget at February 20, 2005 12:58 PM
I agree Mortisha, I am Blink fan also, but I did not hold Dave in error for his statement...things happen. If they had broken up.. attacking others wouldn't change that anyway
Posted by: Patricia at February 20, 2005 12:59 PM
ok, Dave, you shouldn't really say shit like that if you don't havce your facts straight. You got all the blink fans worked up. and now you probably lost some of Janes Addiction fans because of it. You definitely lost me as a fan of your band. I don't know why you said it.. Seriously, even if you thought they broke up, don't go blabbing it around. Fuck..
Posted by: hardcore blink fan at February 20, 2005 01:00 PM
Anyone who'd stop being a "fan" just bc of that.. never was one
Posted by: Patricia at February 20, 2005 01:07 PM
I think Dave was totally cool about his apology and explanation, and that should be the end of it....
And as always, I am wishing I lived in a big city (in particular LA) so I can go to some of these concerts I can now only read about here....as it is now, I can only watch the cows go by....
About the vibrators--seriously, they can make music with them? That is crazy! Do they use the Rabbit, or what?
Posted by: Elizabeth at February 20, 2005 01:08 PM
LMAO!!!!!!
that was awesome how all the Blink 182 fans flocked in here to give Dave shit about the news... HAHAHAHA
They were PISSED at DAVE FUCKING NAVARRO because Blink 182 broke up!!!!!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHA YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that was awesome...
I'm kinda disappointed that they didn't break up, though... they would've done the world a great service to have called it quits.
but yeah, an angry mob of angry 13-year-old girls, and pathetic 30-year-old male virgins was pretty funny

Posted by: boots at February 20, 2005 01:34 PM
Personally I think people should be pissed at Blink 182 for bailing out on a Tsunami Benefit show last minute with no reason except for a false one that was given to the other bands. Even if Blink 182 did break up bitching at Dave wouldn't make them get back together.
Posted by: Bridget at February 20, 2005 01:39 PM
I agre, I said that in one of my other posts
Posted by: Patricia at February 20, 2005 01:43 PM
Holy!
I'm away from the net for 3 days and a bloody bomb hit! Mortisha, Paint Pastel Princess and Patricia, well said. PPP I am having a good laugh myself!
Dave, glad the show went well despite the few no-shows.
I do have a question for you Dave, and I think it is a pretty good one.
How would you feel if Weird Al did a parody of one of your songs? Honored, pissed, amused, indifferent if Weird Al covered one of your songs? I'm thinking you would laugh about it as you strike me as a guy with a wonderful sense of humour.
Posted by: Tara at February 20, 2005 01:44 PM
Tara~ THanks so much for the compliment. I think your question is very good..I'd love to know the answer
Posted by: Patricia at February 20, 2005 01:46 PM
holy crap some of u kids are inconsiderate assholes. blink had a reason for not showing up at that show. they are taking a break right now, toms going through bad times. quit fuckin shittin on blink because u guys dont know what happened, i do. and dave, he was told by others about it and he just said what he knew, he wasnt sayin anything bad about blink. dave didnt start the rumor on blink, blink did it by not showing up, i hope to god that the guys get out of this, im more worried about them than the band. so stop all this shit and just hope tom gets better
Posted by: katie at February 20, 2005 01:47 PM
PS I have wonderful editing skills-sorry about the choppy question.
OOOPS- Wonder if there are people on here that will blame Dave for my error?
Posted by: Tara at February 20, 2005 01:48 PM
I think Weird Al DID parody a (sort-of) Dave song. Didn't he do a polka version of "My Friends"?
Posted by: Denise at February 20, 2005 01:51 PM
Hola 6767
Dave much love to ya bro don't know why people are getting so bent out of shape for the Blink thing, you just posted what you heard. Which being that its your blog I see nothing wrong with it. Thats all on that.
As for the vibrator question, basically it can create something like an ebow effect. Sounds really cool if you use it in conjunction with a Uni-vibe and a phaser.
For the rude people. Stop being so damned rude it can go along way.
Posted by: Juanjay at February 20, 2005 02:12 PM
wow...i never knew there was such a hardcore following for blink 182. usually i'm pretty nice and i bite my tongue...but you guys need a life...this band really is not all that great...i saw them live...twice...and both times they were terrible...worst live show ever. they're music is generic, their antics wear thin, and they have nothing meaningful to say. don't attack dave because he said what he just heard...it's his site...he has the right to post what he wants. if you don't like it, go elsewhere. you guys really need to stop spamming this board with stupid nonsense. get a life...if it's not going to bother you in two weeks...there's no use in getting worked up over it. get over it.
there i've said my peace...sorry...bad mood lol...not a good weekend

Yo dude you wanna get your own style. Seriously get a metranome and FORGET any theory you know for the time being and just noodle around. Basically musically masturbate man.
Try alternate tunings, try different affects, use things such as coins for picks. All these different small variables can change your sound.
Most important thing to getting your own sound though is your hands. Listen to EVH, Dimebag (RIP), Daniel Ash, Robert Smith, Dave, John Frusciante.. alot of their signature sounds and tones comes from their hands. Most of them have used different gear thru out the years but their hands are the key. It may sound weird but you start messing around with your hand position has the biggest effect sound.
As for style. Just noodle until you find something that lets you creatively get out whats in your head. Stop looking at tabs and sheet music for a while. Force yourself to think outside the box. And you will be surprised with what will happen.
Posted by: Juanjay at February 20, 2005 02:20 PM
Hey all,
Hope you're all good. Question for everyone: How long have you been a fan of Dave or CF or TPC and what got you into him/them?
Just trying to learn a bit more about you all since i'm new :)
Dave: I'm sure you've probly answered these questions already, but what are your main musical influences? Favourite passtimes? Favourite song or meal or movie or whatever at the moment?
And I agree with Emily, it's Dave's site so he has the right to say what he wants. Anyway how is pissing him off gonna make you feel any better?
Aaaanyway let's change the subject :)
Much Love,

The Silver Bullets work the best for making cool sounds. On the guitar. Simple and to the point.
Posted by: Juanjay at February 20, 2005 02:24 PM
Hey, no need to bash anyone. (The band or their fans' comments.) I had a great time when I worked with Travis on the Puff Daddy thing and have met the others at different times and at different shows. They are cool guys and are good at what they do. We (Camp Freddy) were simply told at the show, that the band broke up and that is why they aren't playing. It's just that simple. A lot of fuss was made trying to re-coordinate the lineup and the time slots on the 18th. It appeared very believable at the time.
Once again, sorry for the misinformation.
Dave

ok guys. first of all, you should not diss any of these blink fans alright. i admit they reacted like 10 year olds, and as a blink fan myself i feel ashamed for them. but that does not mean they dont have a point. unlike some idiot posted here, you cannot post something thats not official at all and say its most probably official. Anyways the guys apologised so thats fine with me. you guys on the other hand should shut the fuck up about how bad blink is. i dont care about your music taste because i most likely wont like it, i dont care about this site, i just came to look a bit around. you guys may think that all blink fans are 11 year olds, but from what i've read on these comments, you guys dont look much older. now start insulting me and proof you guys dont have lives. i wont come to this fucked site again so waste your time

Hey Dave,
I'm a 21 year-old music major and I spend all my days playing classical, jazz, and fusion. Question for you:
-Are you into any jazz/rock fusion (i.e. Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jean-Luc Ponty, CAB, etc.)?
There is some AMAZING fusion happening right in your backyard....I know Planet X and CAB are always gigging at the Baked Potato.....just wondering your thoughts on the genre.
I have to tell you, when I want to simply chill and rock out, the first thing I'll usually put on is Strays or One Hot Minute.....I think you're one of the tightest rock guitarists in the business; your tone, feel and technique is fantastic. Looking forward to the new TPC stuff; the videos/soundbites are fantastic!
Best wishes to you and Carmen- Peace

And one more time, with feeling--let the Blink thing go, my friends....in the scheme of things going on in the world, there are much bigger things to worry about....

I'd rather not lay my personal problems on the board...and by the way...i'm posting from NYC...i'm a life long NY-er...got the accent and everything.
and as for the question posted here about how long we were dave navarro fans. let's see...i was a jane's fan since '97 (aka age 12 for me) around the relapse...when they were getting a ton of publicity for it...and i became a huge dave fan in 10th grade (2001) when he released TNO and i got a glimpse of him in the Hungry video and said "hot damn that guy is HOT AND TALENTED!!" and there you have it :-D
much love and thanks for the support! and sorry dave for bashing...you're absolutely right!

You asked about how long we've been fans... I wrote something like this one the TPC board too... I've been a fan of JA's music since they first emerged in the late 80s. I discovered Dave in particular when he joined RHCP. I was just blown away by the combination of talent, looks, personality, intelligence, sex appeal, sense of humor... Still am. :)

Did you ever work with Scott Ford? I understand he used to bass for Camp Freddy. Now he plays with Greg Dulli in 'Uptown Lights.' Have you ever worked with Greg Dulli? Any chance of this? I would travel a loooooong way to see that collaboration.
OK, I lied, sorry I had a few of them :)

Hi Dave,
I’m hoping that you have a wonderful Monday. Also, although the “comment stirred up some emotions it’s nice to see that so many different people are reading your blog as they should. I’m not trying to kiss any ass here but seriously yours Steve’s and Billy’s are phenomenal. Besides giving us some great insights into what goes on in your daily lives and how the various projects come to be it’s also fascinating to see how you guys perceive life and how so many different people are impacted by it. It’s taking the documentation of a project to a whole different level, you know the act of observing something and interacting with it sort of changes it… Shit I don’t know what I’m talking about but I just want to say that personally you guys, (Dave, Steve, Billy and the entire community in general the good and the bad) have definitely left a mark in my life for the better. And I also wanted to state the obvious, it’s apparent that even if you guys weren’t gifted artist you would still be phenomenal humans.
Have a wonderful day.

Dave, going back to the comment about Stray's. It was a great album since early Jane's and I'm very excited about it. However, I know bands move forward musically and creatively but the chemistry that you had with Jane's cannot be replicated ever. I give you much love and support with you're new project but it does not compare with the power Jane's possessed. TPC, while trying to be a great band, doesn't come near to be on the level of a genius colaboration of musical talent. My opinion definately is biased but I'm a good judge of musical connection. People log in to your site to find out about what is going on with you and your life and want nothing to change because they are acostumed to the way you deliver your style of music. You are my guitar hero and I look up to you as an artist but I wish ego's can be put aside and a all time great musical force can move forward collectivley and create music that is ultimately powerful. To make a long story short the new project doesn't stand up in any way possible.

Anyone on here in love with Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper the way I am. I can't get enough!!! I brought back 3 cases of it from the states as it is not sold in Canada. I only have 34 cans left. I feel like Elaine in Seinfeld. "is this moment diet cherry vanilla dr. pepper worthy?"
Posted by: Tara at February 21, 2005 08:37 AM
I've not tried that..but it sounds like it would be good.

Hey everybody...its snowin here in CT!
Sorry about the negative Blink posts, Ive had a nasty flu, and dont really dig the band but dont care to dis them either. I just didnt like some of the peoples posts-and outlooks. My bad-and sorry! All this controversy did expose me a little to the band. Went to the sites!
Carol-Maynard appears in a 20 minute DVD as a Sheriff with a buzz cut and glasses. Go to sdlmovie.com Just got info on the radio, and wanted to pass it along.
Good day Jezzi, n creepy, and Lyn and all the nice people here!
Did those demos get to Australia and England guys? Postage wasnt bad and I threw in some other disks I had doubles of.
N'JOY!
Anyone got one of those "Panic" buttons you put on your keyboard? Someone should send Dave one.
Dave-pick up Lord of the Rings yet? Messy tell ya my band sux?

Dude, who the hell does that? Sorry guys but I felt like I had to post. Ya'll need to chill, Dave likes Blink so why would you feel he's saying shit? It was a mistake, we're human people. You cant tell me you've never made a mistake. And it was pretty crappy of you to come to Dave's site just to say something and start something. Dave didnt start anything, so before you go on here and talk your own trash I suggest you be alittle more considerate of other people instead of basically worrying about yourself. And I'm sure being married to Carmen doesnt have anything to do with it, so leave her out of it. And you dont EVER say anything about his mom again, have some respect and seriously grow up.
((ok now I'm mad... like I wasnt already))

I've had a few of those Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Peppers. They are good! Just don't have one after eating chocolate of any sort. Don't ask how, but the DP tasted like beef jerky after the choco. Bleh.

Hey Dave don't bother to explain yourself, we know the great musician, human, husband, friend you are and we love you...
and for them "i will pray" there are just empty souls, that don't have love in their hearts.

First~A sad goodbye to Hunter S. Thompson.
"People log in to your site to find out about what is going on with you and your life and want nothing to change because they are acostumed to the way you deliver your style of music.....but I wish ego's can be put aside and a all time great musical force can move forward collectivley and create music that is ultimately powerful. I think this entire statement is bogus. Please, oh please do not speak for me. What I want is for Dave and the other guys to be as happy as humanly possible and if we get some great music out of it? WONDERFUL! How I (or anyone else) feel about Jane's is meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
Don't you think that it takes huge balls to end a band that you are unhappy with, to strike out, unsigned, into a new style... when you could just stick with the status quo and make shitloads of cash? Dave, Chris, and Perk surely have my respect whether I miss Jane's or not.
People stay in miserable jobs for money all the time. It takes guts to go out and find your heart-what you WANT to do. How is the music business any different.
How good would the music be if everyone is unhappy?

Tara - you can feed your hedgehog mealworms (sparingly! She will LOVE them and then refuse her regular food! Use them as a treat when you get more of her usual) or a bit of good quality dry kitten food (if you're desperate). Good luck!

Posted by: algermom at February 21, 2005 10:59 AM
Thanks algermom, but I have an odd hog, she will not eat mealworms!!!! I suppose if she is hungry enough she will. I think I'll call my vet. She may have something kicking about!

First, my Beth, I got the e-mail and will respond soon! Love your comment on the vibe . . .
So, Dave had some incorrect info. So what? Is he the PR for the show? Is he the one in ultimate respondsibility here? Have any of you ever told someone something and then found out you were misinformed? Dave is human, you know.
And speaking of Dave . . . has the mudslides been an issue for you? I can't imagine what that is like.
I, and many other here, think the world of you Dave and we appreciate the insights you do share! Heck, I just read in a magazine that Johnny Carson isn't doing well - and that was published three days after he died - talk about wrong information - LOL
Always,
me
P.S. RIP Sandra and John

dave:
i want to ask about how you conect your effects(the order) live, especial the digital delay, do you conect it before or after the distortion, and if you use the amp distortion do you conect it into the effects input? because you know, to use the amp distor and the delay conected normally sounds to repetitive to me.
o also want to know if its gona be available any dvd of the janes addiction strays tour. thanks
