Semi Day Off/Said You'd Be

Dave_spread_icon_1

Bloody Mary:Flash Version.

Said You'd Be (Live):Flash Version.

Today isn't really a day off, but I get a change of scenery cause I am goin to Camp Freddy rehearsal for a couple of hours today, then back to the studio. Yesterday we finally got that version of Ashes down. Man, that took some work and patience but in the end it is all worth it. Today, Steve is gonna attack the vocals in the studio and Perkins and I are rockin with Ozzy for the Tsunami benefit show in Anaheim tomorrow night. Chaney, is like, in Vail or something on snow skis. As I told you a week or so ago, we did this showcase thing in Hollywood. We video taped the show and Marc Racco did a great job with the direction and editing, but like 4 jack asses, we never addressed the audio issue, so what we got was a relatively OK audio mix that was straight to DAT from the front of house board. It is what it is, but we love it and it's the first time we ever played Said You'd Be in front of anyone. We are proud to share it with you here for the first time.

Hi, I was just wondering as all the bands from the late 80's early 90's (pearl jam, cornell pixies, chillies (except anthony) are all showing their age yet you still seem to be dead hot, have you got some kind of pact with the devil

Hey Dave...some criticism...love you man...and you guys, to the extent that I hope you're succesful as artists...so, no disrespect meant...but Isaacs sounds like the guy from the Scorpions on "Said you'd Be"...really kinda over-the-top 80's?

You're certainly entotled to think I am a dick for saying so, but my bet is you'd rather have someone tell you waht they really think vs. kissing your ass.

Do you plan rework that melody or are you done tracking?

Seems like the groove could have a funkier vibe.

Bloody Mary is mos. def. cool though.

Best of luck and thanks for sharing your stuff.

Dave - I LOVE YOU...your my inspiration.

Jezebel, Denise, Cori & bluelizard...
I want to say thank you for actaully responding to my post. I did not expect anyone to really give a sh$$. I am really going through a difficult time right now and feeling very lost. After reading your posts I felt somewhat better, not 100% but I do know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. My better half does NOT want me to play in a rock band and I am torn between the two. No job, no money..hopeless. I've tried to explain that if I give up my dream, that is all that I have, I will die inside - he just doesn't get it. I guess I have some soul searching to do.
Well again - thank you all for being so helpful and uplifting. I hope you all have a beautiful day!

Darnit why did I have to watch and listen to Said You'd Be? Just confirms that I missed a really great showcase.
Y'all are most brilliant. Perkins is a mad stomping rhinoceros I am telling you!!

"you weren't hardly worth the space it takes to excommunicate you"
Good lord. Fierce, baby. Love it.

Posted by: mortisha8 at February 17, 2005 11:31 AM

"but Isaacs sounds like the guy from the Scorpions on "Said you'd Be"...really kinda over-the-top 80's?"

I don't hear it. He sounds like... Isaacs.
It's best to listen through headphones.

I don't know about anyone else, but what I am hearing from the instrumentals in that song is a little bit of that Jane's Addiction character. This is not a bad thing mind you!

Posted by: mortisha8 at February 17, 2005 11:38 AM

Totally agree with the Scorpions comment. But it jams

Posted by: Jodi at February 17, 2005 11:39 AM

Damn job...can't wait to get home and check this out!!! Thanks Dave!!!

Have a blast with Ozzy...I give anything to see that performance...DAMN JOB!!! ;)

Posted by: Cori at February 17, 2005 11:48 AM

I have to know-
were you or any other members of JANE's aware of the band Sparks? i believe you played Sparks on the CFR show and it made me fucking proud.

Posted by: Joe at February 17, 2005 11:54 AM

Went back to compare and I think you guys are right, Steve does have the Klaus vibe.

Posted by: mortisha8 at February 17, 2005 11:55 AM

That kicked ass!!!

Posted by: Nik at February 17, 2005 11:55 AM

actually i think isaacs voice sounds similar to jared leto's of 30 seconds to mars...i kinda like it...adds a different element to the music.

glad to see you guys are kicking some ass musically! you get better and better!

and as for a comment made earlier above me...yes i think dave has a pact with the devil...he looks AMAZING compared with other guys in his age demographic...especially considering what he's gone through...it's amazing...and believe me...he looks just as good, if not better, in real life!

much love to everyone!

Now I have something good to look forward to on Friday night! I will be at work until late tonight and can't play music here! DAMN!!!

Besides, my work computer has a cold. It keeps saying there is a virus. Could it have come from my looking at e-bay? I don't know, but I am getting very frustrated!

Wish I could be in Anaheim! I was there almost 20 years ago . . .

Happy Birthday Chris!

Always . . .

I'm with Mortisha8 - fierce, baby! I see the whole Scorpions thing, but to me it sounds like Steve. I think what is being said is that the vocals are just powerful, straight-up ROCK vocals -- and that is a rare commodity these days. Well done. Oh, and I totally agree that Dave must have sold his soul...all that talent, in such a shiny, beautifully wrapped package. And funny, too...wait! I think the devil made a deal with HIM!

I mentioned in my earlier post I got a 'vibe' from the song "said you'd be"... I took that vibe and used it for todays post on my blog...
it hit a nerve with what i have been dealing with,
something within me...
whomever isaacs sounds like
to me the song did what it was meant to do...
touch someone
and that it did

Brasi-I can see how you could hear a resemblance to The Scorpions, and I think that was important to address. The guitar solo was a powerful showcase in that song. TPC looks so serious up there! So, on a serious note, there have been 5 deaths in CT that are heroin related in the past two days. The junk is being tested for its propertys, and this may be connected with cases in New Jersey and New York that also occured this week because of tainted heroin. Stamps have not been identified. Make sure to have a safe weekend everyone, and warn your friends who live in New England. Hopefully, no one has to worry but definately wanted to warn people regardless.

Dave,
I love how you downplay TPC's work, (part of the humble sensibilities that are adored), yet when I get a taste, I am BLOWN AWAY!
Kick the lawyers in the ass and finish the deal, (in TPC's favor of course)and get this mother out!
Rock needs it, (case in point, look at the reaction to VR). No offense to VR (i like them), but when this project drops and hits the streets, IT'S ON !!!!
Thanks again for the videos and associated nuggets!

Cheers!

I don't see the Scorpions comparison though...haha. I even wonder so many people still know them...
I love the guitar solo, well honestly i love any solos Dave does......

Well, next week i am going to see one of my other fave bands live for the first time....QOTSA.......that should kick ass!!!

I don't mean you suck Dave or that the songs/video do. I mean it sucks that I just get a blank window with the brown border when I click on the lick.

Does it take a while, does anything appear in the box, I've been able to hear/view other clips so I don't think it's my settings...is someone willing to help out and throw out a suggestion or FYI

Really would appreciate it!!!

You keep talking about how handsome Nuno is...
I would like to see what he looks like these days...
I have not seen a picture or anything since "more than words" and he refused to be on VH1 when they were trying to reunite Extreme or whatever...

Chris still says NO....or so Ian tells me

Is there a lawn at your studio>?
If so you should take up Bocce Ball (lawn bowling) heh
really.......you should...

Hi all,

Like Cori, I will be sure to listen later on or tomorrow, as I have plans tonight. Thanks for posting the song, Dave.

TL - Hope we could help. Believe me, many of us know how you feel... torn between being creative and staying alive, trying to balance the two.

Some food for thought: Whether your band gets a record deal or not (I hope you do!), you will always be a musician, artist, and creative soul. You can play and get satisfaction and enjoyment out of it for the rest of your life... This is true whether you're playing in huge stadiums, or alone in your bedroom. And nobody can ever take that away from you.

Cheers,
-Denise

Hi Dave!

I've just sorta re-discovered your solo CD and also LOVE the "bloody mary" video. Great stuff! Anyway you have been playing guitar for a long time and I just wondered if you stuck to some kind of routine or do you just practice when you feel like it? Have you ever had a "dry spell" where you just didnt feel like playing/ writeing?

Thanks alot!

Dave, answer the TDDUP question! We want it, man. Can you dig? Feed us, big daddy. Stuff our hungry little faces!

Wendy didn't get stabbed in the face last night on Project Runway, but previews for next week look juicy, so let's not give up hope. Go Jay!!!

Colleen, I hired a painter. Haha! Enough man labor for me.

Posted by: Dana at February 17, 2005 02:33 PM

loved the clips, especially "said you'd be". I really dig the sound. Perkins looks likes he's having fun as usual, Chaney looks funky and cool in his hat, and who's the guitar player? He's pretty sexy...haha. Just being silly, but I do love it.
Can't wait to see it live,
Leah

Hey Dave,

I know you have a lot of questions on your blog and you're real busy makin great music w/TPC and all, and I wanted to say thanks for taking the time out to speak to your fans. The close connections that were so common in the past betwens musicians and their fans is not usually available, thanks to mass media. So what you're doing really means a lot to all of us. If you have time, I was wondering, because I'm an aspiring guitarist myself, what you would recommend as the best way to expand one's guitar skills/what did you do? Once again, thanx a lot, can't wait to pick up the album, and keep it real fresh!

Hey, Dave

Thanks for the special treat! Very nice indeed...!

I was looking at this pic

http://6767.typepad.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/davens2.jpg
and wondering: what kind of workout did you do at the time?

And how did you manage to to stay fit and balance that with your well known use of "leisure chemicals" ?

thanks afor everything, much love from Luiz.

PS: BTW you look great in that old picture! I love this leaner look, not so muscular but still great.

Dave~

Both of the videos were incredible! Your music has and does mean a lot to me. I realize how pretentious it is of me to ask you for a favor..but I am ordering DTTAH, and I was wondering if I could possibly get it signed? I understand how busy you are, so I don't mind if you say no..I just had to try :)

Sue-never heard any APC that I know of. Went to the website, got me curious. My album collection goes from Stevie Wonder to the Suicidal Tendencies, from Miles Davis to Outkast. Im open eared! Oh, and curious too. Tell me more, trade me some cds, sounds great to me. Ive been listenin to a lot of 1997 live Phish. Trey had just started using a pedal, which would loop his guitars and could jam over creating incredible atmospheres of sound. I also just got a live Bruce Hornseby disk (incredible piano man), and am starting to collect the J.Frusciante disks from the past year. Keeping up with work, cd collecting, my music, reading, and all of you all is such a great thing. Im all for spreading music, and turnin people on to new stuff. Turn me on Sue!

dave from the board...the definition of an alcoholic is not by how much one drinks...but by how one drinks...if a person feels the need for alcohol to do daily activities...it can be said that that person is an alcoholic...if a person feels agitated or nervous w/o his or her alcohol...that person can be considered an alcoholic. just thought i'd shed some light that it's really not defined in a text book way but more of a case study kind of way.

much love to everyone (and sorry for the nerdy info outburst)
