Oh, Just... Stufff
Last night we did what is called a showcase. Basically, it's a glorified rehearsal with lots of potential business and industry associates in attendance. Pretty uncomfortable if you ask me, but necessary. In order to make it less uncomfortable, we invited a few friends and family, our friend Tom Morello, and a couple of people to film... Marc Racco and his crew. (The guy who made the Bloody Mary video.) I gotta say, we had a really great time. We unleashed two new songs, "Said You'd Be" and "Left To Lose"... my two favorites. We also played six others, Loophole, Go On, Outsider, Ashes, Half Hearted and Bloody Mary. Hopefully we will have some video in a week or so on the TPC site. In all my years, I have never done a "showcase". I chose to replace those feelings of discomfort (I mean, it's a room with like 20 industry types, it's not like a show.) with excitement over the fact that we are brand new, like a baby band. It was kind of rad. Monday we go in to the studio to finish the recordings for the new album. We have done 7 songs and plan to do 4 or 5 more. We are currently trying to be out by June, but my experience in this business tells me to prepare for the fall. Either way it'll be fine. We will still hit the country this summer on a number of shows if we have to wait. After the show we did the band dinner thing with Riss, Brian Virtue, our producer, and our friend Steve Perry. (Yes, I did hit him up for a Camp Freddy gig and he is way into it.) Today is a long one. I have to go do a voice-over thing for an MTV pilot I shot with my family and then tape another thing which I still can't believe is real so I will hold off on what it is. If it IS a reality, I will check in tonight with that update. Avery on CFR tomorrow!
(P.S. Trying to get a web cam in the studio next week. We'll see...)
1. Dave can you tell us what's on your pedal board besides your crybaby?
Hendrix Cry Baby, Boss Digital Delay - Long Delay, Boss Digital Delay - Short Delay, Boss Chorus, Boss Octaver, Tuner. That's it!
2. I am a long time Jane's and Howard Stern fan. Is it true that Howard Stern is responsible for getting Jane's back together?
In a way, we initially reunited for the Stern Soundtrack as Porno doing Hard Charger.
3. Dave, in all honesty, if all the fame and adulation left you, yet you were still making a living and able to play locally, how would you feel?
Less famous! Ha ha ha...
4. DAVE!!!! What was it like working with Ian Astbury? Ummmm, did you see E.R. tonight? Was that Madchen Amick...
Well, I have only played with him once back in the late 80's. We did Zepp's Rock'n'Roll. I think it was killer! I was a drunk kid back then. As for E.R. with Madchen all I can say is... "Damn! I missed that shit?"
5. What kind of cigarettes do you (prefer to) smoke?
"Still Life with Woodpecker", baby!

Excellent. So happy to see progress being made. I love the sense of the build up toward album release and touring. Fun to be along for the ride -- a first for me.

Wow, Dave this is by far my favorite post in a while not that the other ones aren’t great but this one I can feel all the excitement and anticipation.
Just wanted to mention that.

I know that the "Till death do us part" dvd has been put on hold because stores are not crazy about the title but have ya heard any thing new about it.
Posted by: Giovanni at February 4, 2005 10:52 AM
Damn...your post raised a ton of questions...
Steve Perry....from Journey???
You did an MTV Pilot...will we ever see it? I would imagine if you're doing voice-over it's an active project...??? (Question 2 part B...while you're at it, any word on when TDDUP will be finally released?)
Do you have any idea when dates/cities will be set for the summer...time flies, travel arrangements must be made!!!
OK...I'll stop there...have a great day!

Well, Dave, that really surprised me to hear that you have so few effects on your pedal board. I mean, it always sounds like you'd have more but then again I guess that's just talent, baby! With all the pedals in the world, I couldn't make a single note sound as good as you do!
Cool to hear Tom Morello was there too. Has he heard you guys before and what did he think of it?
Posted by: Pekka at February 4, 2005 10:54 AM
Hey Dave, I saw a picture of you and Perk with Nick Hexum of 311. Have you guys ever done any work together? It would be pretty sick to see him show up at a CF show!
Posted by: Chris at February 4, 2005 11:05 AM

There's definitely something up Dave's sleeve. I have my theories, so it will be interesting to see what the "reality" is.
Posted by: Denise at February 4, 2005 12:07 PM
Does Marc Racco have a website or did he just do that on the side? I'd love to work with him when we come to LA.
Posted by: BRANDON at February 4, 2005 12:21 PM

dave - do u and billy ever take the mick out/imitate each other's accents.
at work to keep ourselves amused we each "adopt" an accent for an hour - the queens english gets funny looks off customers!

Wow, what a coincidence, my friends 17th birthday is tomorrow also. I'm not sure I'll be around tomorrow, I have to go to my friend's party and then going into work for a friend... gee how much sweeter could I get to this girl? ( there's a story but we'll not go there ) Happy Early Birthday Georgina!! Have a wonderful birthday and I hope you get all that you wish for and more!

Yes that is Maadchen Amik in ER now. She is Carters new fling. And she is as hot as ever! It's great to see her on tv again.
Dave, you gotta help us out. We never got much Janes concert footage (the three days DVD was close but not quite). Let's see TPC be on top of that game ;)

Dave I can't believe you still have to tryout for the "Suits."
I can see how that interview went..."Let's see, it says here you sold a gazillion albums, played 10,000 concerts, have tv shows, a radio show, your own guitar line, you wrote movie themes, oh, and changed modern rock, blah blah..." Puleeeeease.
Put your record deal up for grabs on ebay and let them fight it out! ;-)

DAVE!!! You silly rabbit! I asked that question about Ian because of CFR a few weeks ago, where you said the next caller won a free dinner with Billy M. but they had to ask what it was like working with Ian Astbury...so I called, and Billy answered, and I asked, and he said, wait a minute, let Billy Duffy answer it for you.....GAWSH!!!
so, I got to talk with Billy Duffy, which was wicked cool, but, still no dinner....
and what about Madchen on the Gilmore Girls?
e.r. was a little sappy
DAVE!!! Voice over...Pilot....FAMILY....what? is it Gabe and Henry? Do tell!!!

The "Showcase", yes I am familiar with these ridiculous things. I too have to get through these suits. Anyway- I saw Carmen on The Tony Danza Show yesterday and she looked incredibly georgous (as always). I am actually going to purchase the striptease DVD too!!!
We are finally seeing the sun over here on the East Coast and today I will be celebrating my best friends 30th Surprise birthday party!
Hope to have some of my bands MP3's posted on thei site soon!
