Day Off/Sunday 10... I Mean, 5

Dave_navarro_locoSunday. Time really has been flying by. It's a trippy thing, the studio. When it's hard, it is really hard and frustrating, but when it's fun, it's the most amazing thing that you never want to end. Last night while working on She Won't Last was one of those times where ideas and nuances kept getting thrown around and it was really inspiring. Somehow it always seems that moments like this begin to happen around an hour before the day's time is up. We do a 12 hour day, so around 11:30 in, the magic begins to appear... Kind of like the Murphy's Law of recording, but hey, you gotta be grateful for when it does happen... the magic that is. If it happened all the time, I guess it wouldn't feel so amazing, it would just feel like any other day. Tonight we all go to an EMI party for the Grammy's but we are not going to the actual show. It'll be nice to get out for a change. As I write this I am listening to last night's CFR with Billy doing an amazing job as he flies solo. (Perhaps I should take more days off.) Marc Racco came by the studio tonight and showed us a rough cut of Said You'd Be shot live at the showcase last week. It looks killer and when it's done, we will put it up for you. The audio is a little questionable but the thing is rockin anyway. One would think that we would take care of making sure that the audio gets tracked properly when it comes to a live taping, but of course we didn't even think about it. We re-cut the song and tried to sink it, but it just looked odd, so screw it. It is what it is. In fact, it's the first time we ever played the song in front of anyone so it'll be cool to invite you all in to it's premiere.

Sunday 10:

1. Did you end up modifying or changing the ending of "She Won't Last"? (I really dig the jam at the end that you played at the 2nd (I think) Dragonfly Show.)

We tracked the end jam and it sounds killer, but I am not sure if it will make the final album. It could wind up a B-Side or on an import or just an online thing for all I know. The track is coming out so good it may be anti-climatic to punctuate it with the jam out section.

2. I forgot to ask in the last post, what do you think of Linda Perry as an artist?

I worked with Linda years ago on the Led Zeppelin tribute album on a track called Misty Mountain Hop. Since, we have played together on stage several times and all I can say is that she has one of the strongest and rockinest voices I have ever heard. She is simply amazing.

3. How do you feel about people having pics on their desktops of your wife?

A lot better than if they had pictures of my ex-wife on their desktops.

4. Would you ever like to work with Gwen Stefani?

Maybe a reality show or something like that. It could be called. "Let's See What Happens If Dave & Gwen Are Stranded On An Island".

5. You have been tracking in the studio with a bunch of different guitars, yet, I only see PRS when you play live, ummm, how does that come about? I mean, I understand the analogy of a painter using different color palettes, have you made any new discoveries, I mean, will you be bringing all those guitars with you on tour?

Well, in the studio I can use several guitars on one song, whereas live I can only use one at a time.

Comments

I wanna be first! I was about to reply in to the last entry, but this one popped up at the same time :) I love Dave's witty sense of humor (response to Q3), and the line about really "done up" women is very true. An important trait in more ways than one. Hope you have a great time with Carmen & the gang tonight, Dave. Happy Valentines Day to everyone out there! xoxo Karina

QUESTION 4...

What time/station is this pre-Grammy thingie?

????

And HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY to you and Carmen. Have another magical time!

Cheers,
-Denise

BTW Dave, the question about Carmen on people's desktops wasn't meant in a nasty offensive way.

I was honestly curious.

I think that would creep me out a bit.

But I guess that comes a long with the package huh.

I guess I should ask her how she feels about you being on a lot of desktops too.

But then again, it's none of my business.

Just go buy that codpiece.

heLLo D!

U look tired on the pix from Steve's site! ;-) But the magic happens!

About the TDDUP possible dvd to share, any news about if you'd be ready to do it? what about torrent to share it (seed it, then everyone is seedin it for a while). Could be done, but not really official nor nice toward mtv......;-)

Have a good sunday, and enjoy it!

Aww! I was just watching MTV's XOXO and they showed you and Carmen a few times. I had never got to see any of your wedding. Your lips were shaking when you got to kiss your bride. It was so intense. I teared up when you did too. I admire the love you guys have for eachother. Now I want to with mine.

Anyhow, hope your night tonight is nothing short of relaxing and fun!

Much Love

I'm confused about the Grammy pre-show too. Channel 2 does not have any pre-Grammy festivities in the listings. The only place where I have found a listing for a pre-show is on the FUSE network. Aside from that it's like, live from the red carpet stuff, and since it was pre-taped.... well, ya know.

Anyone know what's up?

Quick question: Favourite RHCP song?

Posted by: ChoppinBroccoli at February 13, 2005 11:57 AM

Figure I might as well keep asking... :)

Dave, when my Navarro PRS arrives (on order), is there any way I can send the backplate out to your publicist or whoever I can go through to get you to sign it? They say it'll be 5 months in the making...

Thanks!

The pre Grammy show is on CBS Los Angeles affiliates stations with Dave and Lisa Joyner..

I guess they aren't ready to take me national yet...;)

Dave..how come you aren't answering my stupid questions? ah, the answer is in my question!!!

Here's one. You have been tracking in the studio with a bunch of different guitars, yet, I only see PRS when you play live, ummm, how does that come about? I mean, I understand the analogy of a painter using different color palettes, have you made any new discoveries, I mean, will you be bringing all those guitars with you on tour?

jezzi(ooooh, my first techie question, go easy on me)

Posted by: jezebel at February 13, 2005 12:13 PM

Jezzi -

Thanks for the 411 on the Grammy pre-show. That sucks that it's only in LA. :( At least I know that I don't have to rush home from grocery shopping to catch anything! (sigh)

here's a question...why the shift from ibanez guitars in jane's early days to the PRS? just curious, you even thanked ibanez in an album (i can't remember lol)...and i think the guitars sound great :-)

have an awesome, lazy sunday!

I don't know about Dave, but I have owned both Ibanez and PRS myself.

Don't get me wrong, Ibanez makes KILLER guitars.

But PRSs are just unbelievable.

It's funny when you're recording over and over and over till the song sounds the fucking same, no ideas, no inspiration.
Then , when the evening winds down, lights dimmed....and you're almost now HATING that fucking song.....the cool idea comes roaring in!

I always find that my best stuff comes without thinking....it has to be dark in the room, all those inner emotions/frustrations whatever, turn on the mic and whatever comes out is usually a keeper. That fucking rocks!

umm, ouch....Dave, remember, speak very slowly when explaining things to me... I know you can only use one at a time, I meant to say, do you ever make a discovery while laying down tracks and decide to play a different guitar live than PRS?

oh, nevermind, you know, in front of God and my family, i want to say that I have been stood up tonight, and i am now going to step out for a bit, since the sharp objects in my kitchen are beckoning to me...

Well, I don't want to totally spoil it for you folks on the west coast, but I have to say, that I've never liked VR more than tonight. Ck this, on one stage, you had Bono, VR, Alicia Keys, Brian Wilson, Nora Jones, Billy Joe, Tim Mcgraw, Stevie Wonder, all doing Across the Universe. Man, that was fucking kick ass, Matt was singing his ass off, Scotty did a FUCKING great job, what a song, what an event. THAT was badass!

dave, do you like jim carroll as a writer? have you read 'forced entries'? i know most notably is the basketball diaries, but forced entries to me is a better story, because he starts out as a serious herion addict and ends the story on such a brighter note. plus, he's funny and witty as hell.

"Across the Universe"-John Lennon?
Thats a f'n great tune. Everyone should have Stevie Wonders "Inner Visions" in their collection. It definately compliments mine! Anyone heard Brian Wilsons album?

I really wanna hear the version they did!

Jenn when your parents had sex and conceived you, has nothing to do with the kind of person you are, or are going to be.

Hello, Dave!
Hello, everyone...!

Here’s my question for Dave...

Imagine there’s a post-punk visionary on one side, rambling about the meaning of the colour blue and the Kabalah. On the other side, there’s a dark and brooding rock star with the body of an athlete and the ironic sense of humour of a more twisted Woody Allen.

The thing is, I’m watching THREE DAYS for the thousandth time and there’s not ONE single scene in which those two characters (Perry and Dave) are shown having a conversation.

Question is: how would a chat between you two be like at that time? How well did you complement each other with your different styles or how bad did you get on each others nerves?

Zimphire,

I never said that the Zodiac say's who you are. I mentioned before that I don't live by the Zodiac, but it is something that I like. Maybe it's not your cup of tea. And that's fine. That's what makes us individual's right? I like zodiac stuff. Plain as that. Just like our past experiences may influence who we are, but we decide who we become. (Dave being living proof of that.) So, yeah, I agree with you 100%, when your parents have sex and conceive you has nothing to do with who you are or going to be. By the way, what sign are you?!

Jenn, I like to read my horoscope too - don't live by it, but how often is it soooooo close. I also like to check out the Chinese Horoscope. I was born in the sign of Cancer during the year of the Tiger.

I would like to ask a favor. My one and only, Andre, turns 9 today (Valentine's Day). He likes to look at the posts with me. Would you please wish him a happy birthday? Either a post or e-mail me? It will make his day! Besides, he is getting braces today - what a way to spend your birthday!

Thanks all!

What is the meaning of life?
What is really the point of living, doing silly everyday things that leads to what?

i went to a FUSE tv event on saturday night and i was challenged to stump the VJ Steve, so naturally, I asked what Dave Navarro and the Jane's Addiction members, new band name? and he guessed Camp Freddy! So I then informed him about TPC and how Steve Isaacs was a former MTV VJ la la la, I won, I looked awesome and I promoted TPC :) YAY

i don't know if they'll air it but they're doing a nationwide VJ search so i got to be on the 'stump our vj' part...so maybe it will make it to air, since i did stump him :)!!!!

Also, Xtina is engaged!

CHRISTINA Aguilera has got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Jordan Bratman, People magazine reports. Music executive Bratman proposed to the 24-year-old three-time Grammy award winner on Friday while on vacation, the magazine said on its Web site, citing her representative. New York-born Aguilera, whose music industry awards include a Grammy for best new artist in 1999, has been dating Bratman for more than two years. "Christina was very surprised," People quoted a close friend of Aguilera's as saying. "She's ecstatic."

so... What happened to your Parker Fly you seemed to love 10 years ago or something... I recall that I saw plenty of commercials about you with it ? so It was all about money, ha ?
A guy in the guitar factory told me once that if you advertise guitar products etc... you get free stuff like guitars, effects etc...

Everybody have a nice day... I had a very very very BAD day.....?!..
