Day 9

Dave_spread_iconDay 9 here. Yesterday was another killer day of recording and forward motion. Isaacs killed the vocals on Said You'd Be, She Won't Last and Left To Lose. Just nailed the tracks. We had re-tracked a song called Ashes cause we felt the original was too slow. Yesterday I went to do some guitars on the newer version... it was way too fast! So, today it is back to the old drawing board as we re-track Ashes again. What a bitch that one is! We'll get it. Last night Marc Racco stopped by with the final cut of the Said You'd Be live video. That should be up in a day or so. Later, Messy dropped by to hang for a bit. It's nice to have friends and family stop in to visit as our outside lives have ceased to exist over the past couple of weeks.

Am I first???

Dave, when my Navarro PRS arrives (on order), is there any way I can send the backplate out to your publicist or whoever I can go through to get you to sign it? They say it'll be 5 months in the making...

Thanks!

Tim

Damn...3rd :p I think

Hey dave! Being in a studio, doing the same songs over and over again seems kinda dull but remember you'll be rocking them out on stage and having soo much fun after its all done!! Yeah, just keep at it, and try different things on Ashes, you'll find something you're all happy with. As for your social life, you'll have it backk, no doubt... and ya know, it's good to have a little change. Anywayss have a nice dayy!

Since you only use your white PRS on tour, do you have several of them for differnt tunings and what not?

Posted by: americanzer0 at February 16, 2005 12:27 PM

Dave,

Where are you guys at in regard to a record deal/label etc.?

Thanks,
Jay

Posted by: Jay at February 16, 2005 12:33 PM

Teasing us again? There are many of us that only get connected to your music on line or on CD - can't wait for this music!!!

Any word on the possibility of getting TDDUP the way you had suggested? Not like you don't have enough on your plate as it is - just a little more pressure from you adoring family!

Andre told some of the kids in the class that you said Happy Birthday to him on line. He told me a couple of them said neat - the rest just didn't understand. Don't know if that meant they didn't understand about this site OR they couldn't understand him now with his mouth full of metal.

Thanks again!

Good Afternoon all!

Hope it is a good day for you all!

Dave- Great to hear about the recordings going on! Keep them coming!

Posted by: Karrie at February 16, 2005 01:01 PM

Wow, lotta work, you guys ROCK! Are Carmen and the Bombshells going to be part of the regular Camp Freddy gigs, and are they doing other gigs?

Posted by: Junebug at February 16, 2005 01:14 PM

Dave -

Once again, good luck w/ the recording. Sounds like you guys are working your tails off and giving it your all.

?Question? - In terms of the recording, are you guys on a tight deadline? Or is it a self-imposed deadline where you guys just want to have a finished piece of work ASAP so that you can hit the road and rock out?

I'd be curious to hear about the label situation as well. (Pardon me if the questions seem dumb, or if you don't have the answers yet... I don't know exactly how the music industry operates...)

Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to share your insights and experiences w/ us. We're very excited for you, CF, and TPC.

Take it easy -
-Denise

Hey Tim, do you think Dave is actually going to SiGN the thing when you spam his bored daily with the silliness?

I mean come on...

Posted by: Leah at February 16, 2005 01:46 PM

Hey Dave,

Have you ever played No Quarter By Led Zeppelin live and is there any chance at hearing it at a Camp Freddy show?

Posted by: richard max at February 16, 2005 02:16 PM

Can't wait for the live video to be posted!

Dave, what do you do for stress relief when you're goin' at it like the energizer bunny? (In the STUDIO, I mean.)

hey Dave and family

ya, recording can be a lot of hard work Dave, but the end product i find is always worth it!

we played a gig tonight. wow, it was a tough crowd! it was alil dishearting, which makes me wanna ask a question for Sunday Dave,

have you ever played gigs where the crowd response was lacking or non existent, where at the end of teh gig you feel dishearted about what you do? if you have, what would your advise be to someone like me now?

aron
(If this has been asked before, I didn't see it)

dave when you play live do you use any kind of effect that increments yous volume on solos? like a tube sceamer or something like that

Posted by: sergio at February 16, 2005 03:17 PM

i just read a very interesting book i think dave would like called "a million little pieces"...it was a fascinating book about this guys hell going through rehab and how the mind of an addict works...lots of fascinating stuff...but the thing i felt rang true is that...once you're an addict...you're always an addict...you just change the "drug" which i thought was a very true statement. just wondering if dave or anyone here has read it...i highly recommend it!

much love to everyone!

boots...the author is james frey...it's similar to daves book in the sense that it's not an autobiography...but rather a chunk of time in detail...i read it one night...the cover of teh book is a light blue green color with a hand that's covered in sprinkles (strange i know) i highly recommend it

hey dave, who's messy's friend in day 10 at the art show?
she is so sexy, and nice ass. can you imagine feelin that?

Posted by: grapey at February 16, 2005 10:05 PM

dude grapey, please, some respect for the lady!

oh so many comments and questions on this blog all the time- good, silly, some maybe even insensitive (hopefully mine wasn't one of those!). Seems like the whole world wants a piece of Dave.

D-dogg you don't have to answer anything you don't want to. And THANK YOU for your time on here and the questions you have answered. It's nothing like actually being there, but it's awesome to read about what you're up to in the studio.
Keep rockin' the shit out of those guitars.

Yo 6767ers how's it going?

Dave hey I think you guys in Camp Freddy should rock "Girls, Girls, Girls". The would be the bee's knees.

Sounds good with the recording, hope everything goes well. Sucks about having to wait until fall, but better to get quality out later then to rush something.

You going to be playing any slide on this album? I could swear I heard some on Strays on the True Nature track but I could be mistaken.

Hey 67'ers...

Today I want to scream out LOUD! I am sick of job interviewing, does it ever end? Will I ever get a damn job? Will my band ever get signed? Have you ever had one of those days where you just want to throw in the towel? I have come to this site hopeing for some words of encouragement.
TL from NY

Posted by: TL at February 17, 2005 06:48 AM

Hey TL...here are some words of encouragement. It's ok to be disillusioned, and I LOVE screaming out loud!!! Just DO it, and then go on, seriously, you will feel much better. Frustration NEEDs a verbal outlet that won't hurt others!!! May I suggest screaming while driving?

anyone else?
jezzi (Hi, Dave!!!)

Posted by: jezebel at February 17, 2005 07:50 AM

Hey TL,

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. I KNOW how it is, believe me.

I can't say that I have all the answers. But if you've been working hard at something, and you have a day that you feel overwhelmed, go ahead and throw in that towel... but just for today! Give yourself a break, take it easy, and start fresh tomorrow.

I've also learned that in life, you need to have a Plan A (your dream), Plan B (your way to achieve your dream or at least pay the bills), and a Plan C (the worst case scenario). I always ask myself, "What's the worst that can happen?" If you can be relatively OK with the worst case scenario, at least temporarily, then everything else will feel like a blessing. And sometimes, what feels like the worst possible situation may lead you in exciting new directions.

Good luck!

Hey Dave!

Can“t wait to hear the TPC record!!!!

A question: What do you think of The Mars Volta?

Lots of love
LL

Posted by: LL at February 17, 2005 08:33 AM

TL...I have been where you are and agree with Denise. When you're feeling like you do, just give yourself a day off...just for you. Don't allow yourself to dwell on finding a job or any other problem...just give yourself a break and then get back on the horse.

Often things come together when you least expect it and from the strangest directions...just out of the blue. Have faith and hang in there Sweetie!

Happy Thursday, Family!!!

Hey TL i'm sorry that you are having a bad day, follow jezzi's sugestion that will help you alot, scream all you want and if you scream while driving much better.

blanca l.

Good Morning dave & family!

TL- I am sorry to hear you are frusterated. I get that way as well. I either have a great cry or a great scream as well. I think Denise hit it right. You have to have ways to go on even if you aren't doing your true love.

You have to keep the faith though, becuase once you loose faith and stop believeing in yourself, then taht is when your dream will never come to fruitation.

Hang in there! We are here if you need us!

I just became a "Panaholic" with my 500th post at TPC. Im going to an AA meeting tonight, if I speak I should say my name is Boots and Im an addict, alcoholic, and panaholic but I wouldnt want to stir the old timers heavens for bid!

Works been driving me crazy...I work with this Jamaican guy who always does messed up stuff at work to get to take all my tips. We drive shuttle vans for a hotel. The guy picks up people assigned to me, and has sent me places where there is no one to pick up! Nasty person, last night I lost my composure. I gotta do better but its tought to work with someone who is lazy unless hes making a tip or stealing tips from his fellow employees. When approached he acts dumb, like he doesnt know and is a very aggressive person. I hate confrontation.....dammit. Suggestions?

Dave-please dont forget Serges question regarding getting help from studio engineers when looking for a sound. Its a really good question!

Lots of love, shake it sleazy!
