Day 4
Day 4. Starting to lose track of time. Haven't seen much of the sun lately. Today we finish up basic tracks. It's looking more and more like we are gonna put this thing out in the fall, only because we need to do this the right way and not rush it out for the sake of being out. There are a lot of details other than music that we need to consider. Plans to be made, people to work with, artwork, choices and all. The good news is I saw some of Mark Racco's new video from our showcase last week and it looks like we will have something new up soon. The web cam, aint' lookin' so good but Steve is shooting some video and taking stills in the studio. We are definitely documenting a lot of what's been happening. Today is all about getting a new version of Go On and the acoustic jam, Someone Else. If we accomplish that, which we should, then I will step into overdub world. That is a fun world. Like throwing paint on a canvas, paint by numbers style. You know what the picture is, but creating the color version and watching it become a new image is a really exciting process. I got all my paints down there. A bunch of PRS's, Les Pauls, SGs, Strats, Teles, Yamaha acoustics, Martins, Marshall, Mesa, Bogner, delays, wahs, chorus and a slew of other things I can't even pronounce. A rack of color palette. The studio we are at is very much like the old days where you go in to work and run into other rockers in the hall. Yesterday I ran into Paul Stanley from Kiss and we talked shop. The first show I ever went to was Kiss when I was 11 years old. Trippy to run into him at the office, so to speak.
1. You talk a lot about that Leto character, are you guys buddies or something?
Yeah, we are. Every time I see him I can't believe he is an actual human being.
2. I've always wondered whether your dreads back then were real, extensions, or both.
The dreads were real but the braids were extensions. Anyone have that old shot of the dreaded me with the Nothing's Shocking guitar?
3. Hey Dave do you and Isaacs have a kind of big-brother/little brother relationship? Do you give him tips or ever act like a teacher to him? Or is it a mutual equal type of thing where you learn from each other?
It is definitely a learning from each other thing. That guy is one of the most talented people I have ever met on so many levels. Music, art, life... He is brilliant.
4. I really like that black leather jacket with the stitched around the neck and back that you have.
Thanx, one of a kind. Made for me by my friend, Ana Sui.
5. Dave, will you ever explore your dark side?
Very funny!

Ahh, the belt buckles! F'N'-A right!! I'd be all about sportin' one of those puppies! Dave, if you had to pick one word that describes the sound and vibe of the TPC album, what would it be? Enjoy "painting," and everyone enjoy your day.

Man im definatly getting myself one of the buckles, any idea on the price at this moment in time.
Posted by: Biblical at February 10, 2005 11:02 AM
Making me a little sad here, Dave - FALL - but I am sure it will be worth the wait!
Paul Stanley? Jealous, again - and at the fact you got to see them when you were 11! KISS was my birthday gift to myself after my son was born. I was 30+, and they did not disappoint!
Do you think you will still be rocking when you are in your 50's?
Always,
me

HEY DAVE
Cover art! Will you have open submissions? or is it a corporate hiring thing? I am a graphic designer and have done numerous cd packages for local artist in SF and I would love a shot at it.
If this is possible let me know.
Thanks!

it's Inge from holland with a few questions to dave, thanks in advance
1. Are there any plans to play in europe this year?
2. How do you think about vanity and how much did and does influence it your career and personal life (in your opinion)?
3. You seem to be very close with the Foo Fighters; any future plans with them?
4. What are your fears in life?
5. Is Dave Navarro your real name? if not; why did you choose to use a different name and how did you choose that name?
that'll be all for now x

Dave!
Have you ever thought about sliding down the emotional spectrum into the brighter side, a la Daniel Johns? Is it a conscious choice to stay relatively dark, or is that just how things come out?
Will we ever see a SMiLE pt. 2 from you?
btw, you're brilliant, and the epitomy of badassness.

Dave, You have played with so many musicians, are there any that you can't wait to jam with? Someone said Prince before, that would be amazing. Maybe Bowie?
Posted by: Nick at February 10, 2005 01:52 PM
I know this lame dav, but I have to share.
the first concert I went to was Jane's back in jan 1991.
I had won the tickets on the local LA station.
the whole night i was packed in between other little girls trying to rock out to my favorite band (I was 15) at the end of the night after everyone tried to get a handshake from you, I was the only one that got one. all I could do was smile for weeks, I was even late to school the next day for my final. it was my first concert and nothing has been able to compare since. rawk on man. :D

Hello everyone -
just poppin in to say hello -
Haven't been arond in a bit. Been extrememly busy and I have neglected my fellow 67ers. I'm sorry . :)
I hear ya Dave about seein Paul Staney. Ozzy was my first concert, with Motley Crue openin up. Carmine Appiece was the drummer on that tour and my wife now works with him. So I see him on occasion in a social atmosphere and its always a trip. I even drew a picture of him when I was 11, twirlin his sticks and all and I still have it. Crazy...
Gotta have a belt buckle. And I second Wendy with her offer. I'm another lens that's only a click away too.
Much peace and love and positive vibes out to the boys in the studio...

That pic of the dreads & NS guitar is damn fucking sexy.
I read on your Playboy interview (i think) something about you having sex with a fan and a sore dick...
You feel like giving us an extended-version of that answer?? :D
btw... do you know if Eric know about my Jane's bass tabs website? www.geocites.com/janes_tabs ?
Ciao Dave!

In a way, do you think you are "addicted" to the Internet? If you know what I mean...You are much more involved than most other "celebrities" (can I describe you that way?).
Thanks for the update.

The Dreds were awesome Dave - but the shorter hair suits you much better...
In my office I have your 8X10 on one side of my desk and a Nothing's Shocking-era poster on the other side. I look at them all the time, and I think that often. Perk too... :) that fro was a rough period for him, fashion-wise...
Still like Perry way better with the dreds tho. :) :0
Much peace

Dude, that would be badass! I am a photographer and I would love to be able to get a shot at create something for TPC.
But I really want that belt buckle: gorgeous. I have way too many belts. I could save up if they're expensive. Speaking of money, can anyone tell me the price of Dave's signature guitar?
Back to work.

question...do you play on the song "soul to squeeze" or is it still frusciante or another RHCP guitarist?

"Soul to Squeeze" I love that song.He probably played it for RHCP even if it wasn't his originally.
I thought that one pic of Dave from old Janes Addiction was funny where he was wearing the Frankenstein shirt

hey dave! how ya doin......i'm from england and like many others im desperate to see u play live......and i am also a massive audioslave fan....an i've noticed you have been hangin with tom morello recently......anyway.....audioslave announced a small tour in the UK earlier this week, which will take place in june......so.....you must be pals with all the audioslave lads cos of lolapalooza 2003....so i was thinkin you could be their special guests.....it would be a great way to promote the panic channel if your albums out by then, which it could be.... and it would be incredible to have 2 of the best guitarists in the world at the same gig...it happens all the time in LA...never over here.......also.....the gig is on the last day of my exams.....how awesome would that be.....the best way to say " screw you school !! ".......there are so many reasons why you should do it......cos u aint bin here in ages.....its festival season...u could catch a couple those promotin the album....you gotta see where im comin from.....gigs like that are made in heaven.....an all u hav to say is " yo tom, i got this comment on my site...this kid, hes got a great idea etc" and he'll be like "yeah, radical, ill giv chris a call.....yo cornell what dya think of this etc" and before ya know it panic channel r sellin albums by the million...which aint a bad thing
hope ya read that........from Ric
Posted by: Ric at February 10, 2005 05:04 PM
if u didnt bother readin that big chunk of comment...which i suspect u mite have......it basically asked " are u gonna support audioslave on their tour in june.....if not....u should !! "
Posted by: ric at February 10, 2005 05:05 PM

hey dave : ) i was just wondering how much influence and input do you have on your guitar sounds in the studio? (especially One hot minute and strays) Do you actually tweek yourself or do you let the engineers do it for you? im wondering how much ezrin had to do with your guitar sounds on strays? they were HUGE!

WHAT!!!! I saw Ray Bradbury speak last year in LA and he said he didn't write anything worth a spit until he was 42, and that gave me such hope. I may be too old to be Miss America, or American Idol, but I can still run for office, and I can still be famous,

Love the buckle.
Everytime I hear about you "painting" it just builds the anticipation that much more. Ever since I heard Bloody Mary, I've been excited about the release. I love being able to hear you and Isaacs talk about the 'making of' in your blogs; to me it's like foreplay of the mind. Because when you finally release the album, it'll be orgasmic to the ears! Keep building the anticipation!
