Day 3 Studio

DressdaveSo today we cut She Won't Last and re-tracked Ashes. We simply play it better now. The stuff is coming out killer. Tomorrow we re-track Go On for the same reason. We are there, we got the time, mics are set up? Why not? After tomorrow all the basic tracks will be done and it's on to overdubs and vocals. OK, sorry for the short post, all my energy has been zapped.

Having a relaxing day, Dave? Good, it's well deserved!

Posted by: junebug at February 9, 2005 02:54 PM

Yeah me too, just sitting around. Relax Dave, you deserve it. Cant wait to hear from you soon. Dude, Dave I gotta say that you're adorable in Been Caught Stealing video. How old were you? And how was you're life then? I love that video only because its a good song, and you're so freak'n hot (( love the hair )), and steve isnt bad looking himself. Have a nice dayy!

Posted by: ..::Jess::.. at February 9, 2005 02:57 PM

I agree with Jess. You have always been smokin' hot. Hats, no hats, dreads, no dreads. When I was younger I used to dream that I met you as the age I was. Either way, you make me say UNNNGH.

Relax, as I'm sure you and the boys have made beautiful music together in the past few days, as always.

You're a swank photog now. You can pick up girls by saying: hey, I want to take your picture! ;)

Posted by: Theresa at February 9, 2005 03:07 PM

Uh... figuratively, of course!

You should get Carmen to model for you. Those photos, I would loooove to see.

Posted by: Theresa at February 9, 2005 03:08 PM

Sorry for the triple post, but...

what are you "upgrading" to? Post version 2.0?

Posted by: Theresa at February 9, 2005 03:09 PM

did i happen to miss something? i mean, you talk a lot about that leto character, are you guys buddies or something?

Posted by: jane at February 9, 2005 03:13 PM

Cool. Chugging along it seems... How about that webcam idea?

Posted by: Mike at February 9, 2005 03:23 PM

Where has everyone been seeing the Been Caught Stealing video lately??? I'd love to see it...

Posted by: Cori at February 9, 2005 03:43 PM

Dude, this is pissing me off. I'm trying to find the song Messy played for Dave, but the one I keep getting is the one that sounds like Blondie. I've been looking for the Divinyls and I get nothing. oh mann...

Posted by: ..::Jess::.. at February 9, 2005 03:47 PM

Dave, I'm loving your posts lately. I love it when you ramble on about whatever. You are too cute! And yes, please hook us up with the TDDUP! I really wanted that.

Colleen, you would be so proud of me. I gutted the bathroom all by myself. Ripped those fucking walls right down! I am badass with a crowbar. Believe it!

Painting is this weekend. I never painted before and I'm seriously not looking forward to that constant rolling motion. I know it's going to suck shit. How could it not?!

Dave,

┬┐Has Weird Al Yankovic ever covered a Jane's Addiction or RHCP "One Hot Minute" song?

I thought of Weird Al earlier today because I was talking to someone today about Nirvana. Kurt Cobain knew that he "made it" when Weird Al did "Smells Like Nirvana".

dave, seeing how you're a coffee lover,
dairy or non-dairy creamer?

Posted by: Amory at February 9, 2005 04:17 PM

Hey Dave,
I really like that black leather jacket with the stitched around the neck and back that you have. I seen you wear it a few times on TDDUP.
I've looked for a jacket like this EVERYWHERE and can't find something even remotely close. Do you know where I can find something like that or who made it. ANYONE?

Thanks

Posted by: Adam at February 9, 2005 04:20 PM

Blondimofo-can you email the video or is the file too big??? I'd love to see it!

Posted by: Cori at February 9, 2005 04:44 PM

I laid eyes upon you and my heart was smitten.
Without your warming touch my soul grows frost bitten.
Now please remove your skirt so I may play with your kitten.

Posted by: Zimphire at February 9, 2005 04:45 PM

Jess~what are you looking for? the song so you can listen to it? the lyrics?
search for Divinyls I touch myself

"Divinyls---I Touch Myself
I love myself
I want you to love me
When I'm feelin' down
I want you above me
I search myself
I want you to find me
I forget myself
I want you to remind me
Chorus:
I don't want anybody else
When I think about you
I touch myself
I don't want anybody else
Oh no, oh no, oh no
You're the one who makes me happy honey
You're the sun who makes me shine
When you're around I'm always laughing
I want to make you mine
I close my eyes
And see you before me
Think I would die
If you were to ignore me
A fool could see
Just how much I adore you
I get down on my knees
I'd do anything for you
Chorus
I love myself
I want you to love me
When I'm feelin' down
I want you above me
I search myself
I want you to find me
I forget myself
I want you to remind me
Chorus
I want you
I don't want anybody else
And when I think about you
I touch myself
Ooh, oooh, oooooh, aaaaaah
Chorus "

Posted by: Colleen at February 9, 2005 05:20 PM

That was a remix of "I Touch Myself" by the De Vinles. I can remember the original in middle school. I used to fantasize about the singer masterbating, cause in the video she was quite busty and kinda sexy. I dont know who did the remix, coulda been anyone with an MPC, or some popular dj? Oh well.

Dave-TPC was mentioned again before playing "been caught stealing" as a new up n coming band with dave navarro to watch out for! Two mentions in two days in CT

Col, if you catch me on a day when my boss gives her ego a workout at my expense (it's like being drug behind a truck), I'd probably drive right down there and have your bathroom gutted in an hour or two. :p

Did anyone watch Project Runway? If so, do you agree that someone needs to jam their scissors into Wendy's face? I can't believe she is going to Fashion Week. That is so wrong!

Posted by: Dana at February 9, 2005 07:17 PM

"Did anyone watch Project Runway? If so, do you agree that someone needs to jam their scissors into Wendy's face? I can't believe she is going to Fashion Week. That is so wrong! "

Jamming scissors into someone's face is wronger!!! :P

Posted by: ylais at February 9, 2005 07:39 PM

For grammar fanatics, the correct form is indeed "more wrong"
wronger is NOT a word. :D

Hi Dave & friends! I hope everyone is well on this lovely Ash Wednesday evening.

DAVE - QUESTION: Speaking of the awesomely wacky, brilliant "Been Caught Stealing" video... I've always wondered whether your dreads back then were real, extensions, or both.

(Either way, they looked really great on you at the time.)

Oh, and if for some reason you're ever at a loss for subjects to photograph, I gladly volunteer to help you out. ;)

Cheers,

-Denise

Just had a good laugh. Up here in Canada we have Muchmusic instead of MTv and VH1's top 90 videos of the 90's is on. Number 33 is Jane's Addictions' Been Caught Stealing. I wasn't watching, but the TV is on in the other room and I'm listening to who ever the critic is going on about how this is a silly video a first attempt at an 'independent video' but isn't quite there. A bunch of kids in a band say I have a friend with a video camera and he wears ripped clothes and he's really cool and he lives in LA so let's get him to shoot the video. So they go to a Quickie Mart and start stealing then sit at a table and wave around some carrots-oh must be an arty video and the cool friend must be an art student.....
Blah blah blah

Personally I think the video is hillarious and the song rocks!

PS Didn't Casey direct this one?

Posted by: Tara at February 9, 2005 08:01 PM

PS again
Maria are you out there?

Posted by: Tara at February 9, 2005 08:05 PM

I am waiting for some of you to ask what brand of toilet paper he uses.

Come on people... creepy.

Posted by: Zimphire at February 9, 2005 08:06 PM

Thank you Isaacs! I was thinking the same thing when I read "upgrade."

Posted by: Jenn at February 9, 2005 08:09 PM

I still don't know what's going on? (wondering what Jen was thinking....)

Not taking sides. Nope.

I still wanna feel Dave. :D

Posted by: ylais at February 9, 2005 08:29 PM

Okay, I am taking sides. If there is one to take. Oo

I say Dave gets to have his website this 6767 how he wants it.

Posted by: ylais at February 9, 2005 08:34 PM

So who bet on me to bite first? :D

Posted by: ylais at February 9, 2005 08:38 PM

Hee, I gave you shit too, WHERE'S MY SHOUTOUT? ;)

Casey did direct that video. That's one of the best videos of all time, IMO. I remember when it came out, my younger brother and I loved it, BUT... my dad always made us turn it off because of the whole cross-dressing thing. My dad is pretty uptight. Probably why it took me so long to really get into Jane's.

Yeah, I guess I did listen to my parents a bit too much. I was 13 and I got NKOTB from them for Xmas that year. Oh, the shame.

Dave - in addition to Billy Morrison, today is my birthday. I'll consider all the camp freddy shows as a birthday present. Those shows kick ass! AND big thanks to Chase and Robert for the panic radio. That is the best thing ever!!!

Posted by: frank at February 9, 2005 08:54 PM

So Zimphire what kind of toilet paper do you use? It is on your mind after all.

(I'm feeling punchy today)

Posted by: ylais at February 9, 2005 09:02 PM

i wanna carry frank's thought a bit too D

the radio is kickin...and so, a whoppin thanks to Chase and Robert! also

i was extremely happy to be able to pull it up and listen to the CFR Eric Avery EVENT!.....mr oceanic bass riffs himself! AWE-SOME.

I knew what Dave meant.
Must be a Fire Horse thing.

Posted by: ylais at February 9, 2005 09:47 PM

Frank, why would you want to know what kind of toilet paper I use?

I am not famous or married to a hot chick.

:(

Posted by: Zimphire at February 9, 2005 10:21 PM

Curiosity that's all. Twas me not Frank. You brought the subject up. So i wonder what you use. Must be a special subject for you to bring it up in the first place. Are you the "Dont squeeze the Charmin" guy?

Posted by: ylais at February 9, 2005 10:24 PM

"Maria are you out there?"

out there in which way..?

Yes I'm around. Due to a sudden kick in my butt my life is changing fast.

eh- upgrade, update, same thing. My misspelling "Johnny" on Steve's blog I think was worse. I have to go kiss his headstone and apologize.

Hi D-dogg :)

Dave, will you ever explore your dark side?

Posted by: Joe at February 9, 2005 10:32 PM

Hey Dave do you and Isaacs have a kind of big-brother/little brother relationship? Do you give him tips or ever act like a teacher to him? Or is it a mutual equal type of thing where you learn from each other?

Posted by: mortisha8 at February 9, 2005 10:49 PM

Hello Dave and Family!!

Sorry I have been MIA for a bit, but I have been working my ass off lately!

I just transfered to another store and instead of getting the minimal hours they thought they'd have to give me, I had a ton! It's all good though, because more money for me :)

I picked up an old janes cd today. Kettle Whistle was one I didn't have in my collection, and I am quite proud of it :)

Posted by: Karrie :) at February 9, 2005 11:06 PM

Not taking sides! No way. How would you possibly even take sides when it comes to Dave and Steve? You can't! Just can't do it. I just thanked Steve 'cause I was thinking the same thing. I think "upgrade" is freakin' cute though! I didn't give Dave shit. I just thanked Steve for it! I love Dave! But not in a creepy kinda way. Or maybe it is creepy? Damn, I need to learn to stop while I'm ahead.

Posted by: Juanjay at February 10, 2005 03:51 AM

As far as what toilet paper I use, I use whatever doesn't irritate my tender starfish.

And the closest I came to being famous was, either playing Prince's cloud guitar, or being the first person the theme OS X. :p

Hey Dave, you are a Mac user aren't you?

hey dave.
can't wait til the new material comes out. sounds like a lot of fun recording. when you are at home playing guitar and you come up w/some cool riffs that you like, how do you record them? do you have any kind of recording gear in your house, or do you simply use a tape recorder?? just wondering because i am slowly accumulating recording equipment for home and i am totally obsessed w/it now it's so fun. thanks have a great day.

Dude-NYC mistress is "the most". I live in a small town and on Main Street which is a historic area they arrested this lady for running a dominatrix/prostitution business in her home. People would pay her to submerse herself into this tiny box then close the lid! Not my thing, seems like it would only attract scary people and the mentally ill. Do you worry for your girlfriends safety, NY can be a rough place. I used to go to Bushwick and Jamaica to cop stacks...some of the roughest places this kid traveled.

Did anyone hear about the 26 year old female punk who tied a 16 year old to a tree and scalped her on both sides of her mohawk because she had punk ethos that disrespected women? Lot goin on in Boise, Idaho. Thats the kinda shit Id worry bout if Mistress Black were my girl-yourself?

Dave-have you been influenced by the Beach Boys in any way? Have you heard Brian Wilsons new album? I heard its incredible!
Ask your friend Messy for a copy of my demo-I sent it yesterday and it should arrive Saturday. There-I found some means to get it to ya.

Peace bro's/sistas

Boots

yeah heard about the scalping bit... having grown up there, Idaho is a special kind of nightmare. Maynard said that the Boise Tppl show was the scariest show they've ever played. Not on the part of the band's performance, but on the part of the audience make up...
