Back To Work
A little bit of sunshine today. We go back into the rehearsal room and start writing and jamming new ideas for recording on the 7th. We had a great day off and got some serious rest and relaxation.
1. Hey I was just wondering if you've ever had any "work" done on your face or body or anything or what your take is on plastic surgery, since you are from plastic surgeryville, USA.
No, I have not, however, my take on the matter is this. Life is short, people should just do what makes them happy as long as it doesn't hurt others. If a new nose is gonna help someone feel better about themselves, I'm all for it. Know what I mean? Whatever.
2. And Dave, saw in Star this week that Carmen got it for the best luggage and the best dressed. How do you feel about that?
Um, that the tabloids aren't always wrong!
3. Have you ever played with KORN?
Jane's did a show or two with them and Jonathan has joined Camp Freddy for an amazing version of Paranoid.
4. What was it like touring with a young band like Silverchair in the mid 90s? Did you guys have to watch your behavior around them?
Well, we hired strippers to come out on stage with them for the last show... so, no.
5. Would you say that Eric had a large part on that old Jane's sound?
It was his bass lines, the time, the youth, the combination of the four of us, the chemicals. The 90's.

Hi Dave,
Here's a question for you: does anyone ever ask you about the "Deconstruction" album you did? I LOVED the song "The Wait for History", that rocked!!

Dave~
I agree with your view..people should do what makes them happy as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. Glad you enjoed your day off. Take care!
Posted by: Patricia at February 23, 2005 10:48 AM
Hey Dave,
Have fun at work - it beats sitting in a cubicle
Question: You said you agree with Eric that "Strays" didn't really sound like the old Jane's and I would say that for the most part neither did TNO or Perry's solo album. I tend to hear more of that sound on the Polar Bear discs - would you say that Eric had a large part on that old Jane's sound or is it more of a growing and changing kind of thing?

Dave,
what was it like touring with a young band like Silverchair in the mid 90s? Did you guys have to watch your behavior around them?
Was it an older brother type deal, or were you more like that loud uncle that swears alot and always talks about hookers?
also, howabout taking Daniel Johns' new band, The Dissociatives out on tour with you this summer??? huh???

Blink-182 Goes on 'Indefinite Hiatus'
1 hour, 31 minutes ago
Add to My Yahoo! Entertainment - AP
NEW YORK - Blink-182 is taking a break — and it could be a long one. The San Diego-based trio is on "indefinite hiatus" and "there is no set plan for the band to begin working together again," Geffen, their record company, said in a statement Tuesday.
Photo
AP Photo
Blink-182 has released seven albums of new-school punk over the last decade, including a greatest hits disc. Geffen cited the band members' families as the reason for the break.
"For over a decade, Blink-182 has toured and done nonstop promotion all while trying to balance relationships with family and friends," the statement said.
All three band members, Travis Barker, Thomas DeLonge and Mark Hoppus, are married and have one child each.
The door was left slightly ajar for a reunion, though, as the statement concluded, "no one knows what tomorrow may bring."

Great picture...you both have such different expressions. Slash looks like he's trying to tighten a bolt that's not threaded quite right, and you look like you just had a huge orgasm and are a little light headed. Quite entertaining. :-)
Any audio from this collaboration?

Head left Korn (religious reasons) for those that haven't heard :(
Posted by: Jeff at February 23, 2005 12:34 PM
Hey Dave! first time I've even learned about this site! I'm a huge fan.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know that as a musician and a rock aficionado, I think "Strays" is one of the best hard rock albums of ALL TIME. Seriously, it is truly perfect, the best Jane's yet. Very Zeppelin-esque at times, but still pure Jane's, completely adventurous but straight-forward at the same time. I was blown away when I first got it and I still listen to it regularly. I'm really bummed that it is so criminally underrated. I hope you realize its perfection. Is there any possibility for a Jane's reunion in the future?
Posted by: Brett at February 23, 2005 12:47 PM
Head left Korn!? You're kidding right?
Posted by: Adriana at February 23, 2005 12:50 PM
A Jane's reunion would make me happy. That would be cool, never got to see them.
Posted by: Adriana at February 23, 2005 12:53 PM
Korn and Jane's are everything to me. I love their music. Especially anything that has to do with Dave. I hope Head didn't leave Korn.(sad now)

very nicely said about plastic surgery dave!...if it's going to make YOU feel better and you don't think you'd regret it...by all means go for it
i definitely agree that Strays didn't sound like the original jane's...but was an amazing cd in its own right...i think the original jane's had elements of chaos, tribalism, rebellion, and arrogance that could only be brought about by the time period and the youthfulness of the members at the time...anything jane's has ever done has been amazing though...they continue to be my religion lol
much love to everyone!

hey dave,
what do you think about guitars with heaviers headstocks having greater sustain, is it true, have you ever changed the tuners on your PRS to make the head heavier?
Posted by: ssb at February 23, 2005 03:38 PM
hey, Dave
This just occurred to me...
how come John Frusciante came back from "drug hell" looking a lot worse and you came back from it looking EVEN better?
is there a scientific explanation for that?
Anyone in the Fam got a theory about that? I´d really like to know the answer to this question...!
love to all,
Luiz.

Will you start a pop punk emo indie electronic band with me?
Posted by: Paul at February 23, 2005 04:36 PM
DAVE,
In previous posts you have come off as one who isn't really too interested in sports BUT I was wondering if you watch any auto racing-particularly top fuel dragsters or funny cars? If so, what do you think of Shirley 'Cha-Cha' Muldowney? I think she is AMAZING!!!!! For any of you others out there who don't know who she is, look her up-even if you aren't into the whole drag race scene!

ok so not original but want to know
how'd you meet carmen?
Posted by: tash at February 23, 2005 05:26 PM
Dave, I know you said at the beginning of the whole Panic Channel thing that you would consider playing some of your TNO solo stuff on the upcoming tour. Do you still feel that way? I hope so... it would be a cool way to please the fans that have followed you since Jane's. A lot of us would really like to see you get up there a sing some of those TNO songs.
Posted by: Scott at February 23, 2005 05:29 PM
Hey Luiz - great question about John F. vs. Dave...
My theory:
1) Dave is just plain handsome no matter what.
2) Dave clearly works hard to stay buff and healthy, and to look his best. In his case, all that self-proclaimed vanity pays off!
3) Perhaps Dave drinks the blood of virgins? (I wouldn't put it past him.) ;)
-Denise
Posted by: Denise at February 23, 2005 05:34 PM
tash...dave and carmen met on a blind date in 2000
and to add to Denise's comment...i think dave was able to come out looking so good...cause he looks good no matter what!!
much love

Thanks for answering about Carmen in STAR. I have a weekly subscription, and she is in it almost every time! I have even had an article or two published in it, but of no significance!
So, Dave, any update on the TDDUP thingy?????

Who's talking smack about musicals? ;) ! I thought it was musical justice seeing Sebastian Bach doing Broadway! And if you add a little imagination to it, I CAN envision somebody like Trent Reznor pumping out some musical gems for "Mind of the Machine", the Terminator saga!
Ever since West Side STory, Tommy, The Wall, Queen's "Bohemian Rapsody", Led Zepplin's "Kasmir", hard rock can take it's placew in musicals! My fave expeience is seeing The Lion King at the Pantages! It was flashbacks hitting me left and right! Simply the best! Anyone had a good experience at a musical?

Hey Dave everyone deserves a great day off and maybe some dominoes too!Im psyched for the TPC material the excitement helps me get through the boringness and uniformity of school!School can really be a drag when your 18 and rather be at home with your guitar and jammin with your band instead of staring down at textbooks!Anyways Dave, I wanted to ask you whats your opinion on music theory i.e. "scales"?Did you go with the D.I.Y. method or did you learn basic theory or anything like that? One last question(sorry),What scale is the solo in "Whores" based in? Thanks a lot Dave im tryin to nail that song and i wanted to see how close my rendition is and if its good enough id be glad to post my tabbed version of it for all the other guitarists out there.
P.S. I LOVE that scene in 3 days where you guys are backstage jamming to "Whores"...Talk about inspiring man!

Hey Dave. Would you ever do *yet another* Jane's Addiction reunion tour? Not even recording, just like one tour so the younger fans (aka... me... :() could get a chance to see you guys rock out again?
I read somewhere that 2 of the original Jane's Addiction members just don't get along right. If you had to say 2 of you were weren't meant to work together, which 2 would that be?

Glad you enjoyed the one day of sunshine we had out in Cali lol...
The MFR show was awesome. It was chance seeing you live as well. Sorry about your other entry being bombarded with Blink fans...Sad to say that "when the dust finally settled" there was more truth than rumor in what was being said since their label released a statement the other day...
And speaking of bands splitting and Korn...I guess "Head" quit the band....Sad to hear about that too...
Just wanted to know what is the most memorable cover you have ever done, with who, and why?

NICE fuckin' shot for SO many reasons. Devil horns on the bottom right. Gentle feathery flick of the wrist at lower left. Anton Corbinesque tonal values (at least on my Mac). Les Paul. Sweaty rockstars. Wallet chains. Sexy lady inner elbow. Dry ice smoke. Tattoos. Backwards baseball caps. I heart you Debbie VanStory.

First how do jockeys and race drivers get called atheletes? The horse and care are doing all the work.
Next it surprises me any band that stays together longer than 10-15 years. Its like with people most people I meet I may stay friends with for a few years but people change and grow apart.

Kyle, if you are into WWE, Go check out Stephen Perkins.com under the section entitled DEDICATION....
This a section dedicated to the memory of Marc Perkins(Stephens Bro') If you look at the photograph, you should see that Marc was the spitting image of....RVD.
I hope that this isn't taken as disrespectful, but the similarity is just there. Also check out sebastianbach.com to see Skid row's ex-frontman(and all of their talent) doing a few cover versions with Chris Jericho and fozzy...

I am just laughing so hard today! There is a letter going around that instead of answering questions about yourself, you answer questions about the one who sent it to you. Sample question is:
What is my middle name?
The last question was "If you and I were stranded on a dessert island, what one thing would you bring?" I have gotten several responses from food to computer, but my FAVORITE answer has been - - DAVE NAVARRO!!
If he were stuck with me, he'll be swimming for another shore.
What a great way to start the day!

Sue-did you see my post about Maynard's role as a security guard in an independent film. They said on the radio it was really funny to see him with short hair n glass's. I put the website on my post, so lemme know if you saw the post, or if you liked the site...I know your a fan. I still havent heard the song you recommended.
Dave-pick up or view Lord of the Rings trilogy yet? If not, make sure to buy the set with extended footage, theres extra hours of the movie and will be worth viewing.
Rantz-Starting Gaimans "Stardust", Second chapter and I can tell its gonna be a real adventure. The market reminds me of "Neverwhere." and Door. Read it yet?
Any Big Lebowski fans? I would imagine a special appreciation lies amongst those in Los Angeles. I wish we had "In and Out Burger" and "Carls Junior" on the east coast.
To those in Cali: My friend Carrie is movin to San Fran this weekend. Any words of wisdom, or things to check out/places to chill when she gets settled? Im gonna miss that girl.
Dude from CT-(Dave was it?):you play music, go to shows? I got lots a hook ups in New Haven if you ever wanna check out a show at Toads or something.
Jezzi-I found that profile, but what now, pm me. LOL
Anyone in Europe get there cds yet? Just curious, I spent the time...the least ya could do is lemme know they arrived.
Trivia question: (from Radio) Aerosmith went to see Motley Crue a while back and Steven Tyler wrote a song about the band/members. What song was it?
My guess is "Livin on the Edge", Ill let ya know after the answer is played on air. Take a guess!
