Sunday 10/KNAC Scandal
1. I was wondering, there's been a lot of talk about another loop experiment, is there any chance that you will still be adding something to Shoot?
Yeah, I still want to do that, but as you can imagine, it has been very hard for me to get the time together. I'd love to see some new songs made. Why not make a few and I'll jump on them all at once. Like do 3 or 4 on a single day.
2. Have you seen your six degrees of Dave Navarro game lately? Bill Gates, Arnold, John Wayne, who knew?
I love that game! You guys are way better at it than me. Has anyone actually tried Kevin Bacon? I can't make that one work. Oh wait. Kevin Bacon is married to Kyra Sedgwick who hosted Camp Freddy's Step Up show in NYC There. 2 steps! Aw hell yeah!
3. On the subject of (NAMM) equipment, which do you prefer - pod or tonelab ?
I like PODs, never tried the Tone Lab. I like to mix them with natural amp sounds cause I rarely like to go direct.
4. Would you ever play with Prince? I mean you're both killer players and I think it would be cool.
Mos def! I could hit the wife up to make that happen.
5. What do you use for ear protection? I am a singer and my ears have been bothering me from the loudness of my drummer. Can you suggest anything? I've been using HEAROS, but they aren't working.
We use a lot of HEAROS in the band, but mainly for cutting down noise on the bus or on airplanes I really do not use anything at all when playing. I would say that it would be good to invest in some "In Ear" monitors. Really the best solution for singers.
6. What can you tell me about that guitar lesson on dvd with your name and picture on it, from Hal Leonard?
I'd say it is more entertaining than informative. It would be cool for beginners, but other than that, I wouldn't know.
7. Hey Dave, what kind of guitar do you use for record one hot minute, and what guitars are you using to record the TPC album?
OHM: Strats
TPC: PRS
8. Who's the better guitar player, Slash, or Buckethead?
Well, Bucket is really different, which I like, but you know, Slash is my boy. I'd have to go with, Slash baby!
9. How come you can't tell us what happened after the Ice Cream and the hit and run?
Cause we were both blacked out in a sugar coma! We can't remember.
10. What ever happened to that pet eel of yours?
Every couple years I get this question. The one that got slammed down on the table... WAS NOT REAL!
OK. That is 10. I had a blast on Messy's show. She and her man, Nico are two of the coolest people I have met in a long time. Welcome to LA kids. Now, go take it over!

Dave...very good at your own game, dude...
ok,I am looking at my own little personal unicorn collection. I used to be really into them, but I think the last time anyone gave me one was the day my son was born...it's a wood carved music box about one inch square..I only have one actual stuffed unicorn, a beanie baby I bought myself...
ok, enough about me...Dave, I see your beautiful stuffed one in pictures. Do you have any others, in other forms, that you really like? I know you probably don't want to answer, for fear of rabid fans inundating you with unicorn EVERYHING!!
ok, going away now

So Dave...are you willing to tell us what you were betting was going to happen in the Inappropriate Forum at the TPC Community???
Posted by: Cori at January 23, 2005 10:39 AM
thanks for your reply dave .
you MUST buy a tonelab immediately - i used pods extensively for a couple of years for practice and demos , and when i tried the tonelab it totally blew the pods away .
it takes a lot of tweaking to get the sounds , but it sounds and reacts like a tube amp far more accurately than any other modellor that ive ever heard ( and ive heard them all ) .
the tone and prescence of the tonelab honestly makes the pods sound like a speaker cab with a blanket over it .
buy one - you'll thank me for it .

hey dave!! awesome sunday answers! here's a sunday question...is there a song that you've worked on that you felt did NOT reflect you at all...that you had no input on and instead, felt just like a player, instead of a member of the band? i was just curious to know if there was an answer to that...have an awesome sunday everyone...relax before a hellish monday begins!
much love to everyone!!

dave,
it seems like my last post was deleted?
i'd asked about why the montreal show was cancelled on the last tour--but then you did the muchmusic special in montreal that same week (day?)
just wondering.... no big deal now, but it was a bummer.
ALSO,
do you/have you listen/ed to opeth? what do you think of that genre? would you ever be down for jamming something like that?
thanks again,
zim

DAVE
Q. Have you ever heard of a band called 'The Cardiacs'?
Also 'The Sea Nymphs', if you see John Frusciante any time soon, please please please pass these band names onto him and please check 'The Cardiacs' out as the guitar playing is literally mental!!!!

re: songs for upcoming album...
Dave, I really dig Maynard and co.'s version of 'When the Levee Breaks'. It's completely different than the Zep version. Like different notes, maybe. Same thing (sorta) with Just Because. To my non-musician ears it sounds like you play different notes for the electric and acoustic versions on Just Because.
My point is...I hope the songs you are currently working on loan themselves to different versions that you will be able to introduce us to and surprise us with in concert.
Thanks!

Dave,
Love playing the game too - I am addicted to that one! Should put it on a board . . .
Need more players!!
And on a solemn note, rest Johnny - you made us laugh, you made us cry, you were a gentleman and your presence will be missed . . .

Dave,
I know that you're big into health and stuff like that. Do you ever shop at Whole Foods?
Posted by: Casey at January 23, 2005 02:46 PM
Hi Dave..
Thank you for your "ear protection" advice. I am looking into it as we speak. I'm trying to see if I can find a pair of "in ear" moniters that won't break my bank. Know what i'm saying? I am a struggling artist trying to mix the 9-5 job with my band (trying to get signed) on the side.
Do you ever plan on coming over here to NY to play any shows with TPC? If you do, would it be possible to meet you and the band?
Looking out my window right now all I can see is huge snow mountains...when will this melt?
sleep well

What's not to love about Dave tv!! The bending over, the unzipping of pants, the arching of the back, the disrobing, that chest...wait, what was Messy doing kneeling in front of DAve? A Manicure? well, I have heard it called many things..but...a manicure?
Beautiful job Dave, I think you two work well off each other, make it a regular gig
here is question 8...How come you can't tell us what happened after the Ice Cream and the hit and run?

Dave,
When Jane's played Salt Lake for Lolla, your set got shortened thanks to a killer lightning storm. We're still anxiously awaiting your return out here. Any chance of a TPC or CF show here in the near future?

Theres Whole Foods in California? That store rock and rules! Dave check it out! I used to stock the Soy milk at a "hippie mart" called "Edge of the Hoods(changed)" in New Haven. The pay was so low, but everyone made loot selling Beasters. To get a job it there it helps to love Petrula, the Dead, and be down with puffin the yerbas just like the managers. The biggest problem in the store was when someone got bugs in their dreads. All that huggin was turning everybodys beautiful dreads into sh!t-locks. I remember they hired one dude, who had never had a legit job so they just had him work the scale. He was good at that for sure! Im gonna go back and alter the name of the store for confidentiality reasons, probably be a good idea. JAH-Stafari! Night all

Dave, how did you learn how to play the guitar and how long did it take you to consider yourself a good guitar player.
Posted by: Nick Perpich at January 23, 2005 05:16 PM
Dave did you get to hang and/or jam with Tremonti at all? That would be an amazing collaboration.

That whole thing on Messy's show about Carmen was hysterical! "Where Carmen at?" You're down, baby. You're down now.
I actually correct people young and old at work who say: "Ohhh, that's Carmen Electra's husband!" when they see your picture. I see it as vice versa.
Love to hear you sing, as well! Sing more!
You and Prince, that would be heaven!
