Sunday 10
Thanx to forum member, Imdead, this is my new favorite person in the world. Messy Stench. She hosts an Internet radio show over at KNAC.COM. I will be her in studio guest on January 23rd, from 1-3pm. Lord only knows what will happen. You can catch her Sundays from 1-3pm pacific time.
1a. How are you able to stay so grounded among all the glamour of the celebrity life?...
Grounded? What's that mean?
1b. Also do you like the movie velvet goldmine or hedwig and the angry inch?
I love Hedwig. Donovan actually played Hedwig on stage for a long time.
2. I was just wondering was the "suffer some" solo inspired by the RHCP "my lovely man " solo???
Not at all, but I am happy with the comparison. John is the SHIZZZZ.....
3. Hey Dave, ever do it with a chick on the rag?
For SO many reasons, it's a great idea!
4. I have asked this question before but maybe you did not see it so if you don't mind I am going to ask again. I saw on cribs you had a Kurt Cobain Guitar were you a big fan? What is the story behind you getting it? Do you still have it?
Still have it. I actually don't remember the whole story, but I have told Courtney that if she or her daughter ever want it back, I am there...
5. We know that TDDUP on DVD was delayed, do you know why? Any clue as to when it will be released?
I really do not know why. I heard a rumor that some stores had a problem with the title if you can believe that!
6. Whats this about you illegally street racing the sum 41 singer that i read in Total Guitar
Never heard that one... But I officially challenge that boy right here and now to take on the Grand National! Great idea!
7. How are you able to constantly be around "the life", yet not give in to the temptations of it?
Temptations are fun, but when you have been around the block as many times as I have, it's easy to play the "tapes" all the way through and know where a certain action might lead. It's never good. I still love being tempted, don't get me wrong, it's just like... knowing a deal can be made is sometimes better than closing a deal.
8. Dave, heres a question...what do you think of the idea about us all organizing another online MIRC chat again like we had a few months ago??
I'm in. Actually, we are in the process of putting together a proper chat room on TPC.COM
9a. DAVE!!! Have you seen any of the NFL playoff commercials, Rene Russo is in one of them!!!!
The only reason to TiVo sports!
9b. OK, second question..with the advent of the awards season, who picks out your red carpet look?
Usually a combination of my stylist Rene and I. However, this year, I am just doing the band so unless Carmen has to go to anything, I'm staying away from them.
10. So, last week you answered a question, beautifully, I might add, about how you and Carmen were mature, wise, and brave enough to be friends with exes....How is it that they are mature enough to be friends with you?
I don't know. Maybe because in this town, one had better "get over it fast" or they will get swallowed alive. Plus, we are just lovers not fighters...
See you at the The Panic Community!

3. So, last week you answered a question, beautifully, I might add, about how you and Carmen were mature, wise, and brave enough to be friends with exes....How is it that they are mature enough to be friends with you?
4. Any chance of getting Carmen to fill in for Matt or Perk at a Camp Freddy gig?
5. I saw Carmen do a little gig on Ellen...I loved the hat, Is there a pic? I think she should be made member of Druggie Hat Crue!!

hey Jezzi,
I've been working on some portfolio pieces, got to do it when the inspiration hits me! Finally getting to sleep soon......
Hey Dave,
Did you do today's graphics!? Thank God for computers & Photoshop! lol Otherwise you'd be cutting & pasting all night! ;)
Messy's artwork is pretty funny, I checked out her stuff while she was on.
VERY entertaining CFR last night.
Question: I must have missed the FIRST time you guys brought it up on CFR....WHY the obsession with Jerry Cantrell's 'member'?? lol From listening to you guys talk about it so much, sounds as if he exposes himself quite a lot.
DO TELL.
Good Night~!

Dave, my guitar teacher is really stressing the fact that I should learn standard notation, I can read tabs well. Does it really matter considering I can play by ear?
Your a big inspiration.
Pete
Posted by: Pistol Pete at January 16, 2005 02:41 AM
Dave, when your writing a riff, are you aware of what key its in and what scale it is that you might use in a solo, or is it by ear ?
Posted by: Pistol Pete at January 16, 2005 02:47 AM
1. How are you able to do this, please tell me you are still human, and tempted?
Please clarify.

Hey Itanja,
How close were you standing at CF Irving Plaza? I ask because if you were as close as we were in front of Jerry, you'd know the answer to the "member" question! I don't think he needs to expose himself to display, if you know what I mean.
Gina Gershon seemed like she was paying homage to it/him too ;)

How are you able to constantly be around "the life", yet not give in to the temptations of it? I mean, the girls, the drugs, the 'messiness'.....and with the technology available to you, I guess you can 'virtually' do anything...

Good Day everyone! Checkin in to say "Hey!"
To Jezebel: I was reading some post between you and 6767 competing for moderator, if I understood correctly. And it seemed like you get voted for the position. Do I vote, we vote? Can I vote for you both?
To Rantz: Neil Gaiman is incredible, Im gonna check the book liner! Id love to get my books signed! Could you ask him, or do you know when the American Gods sequel is to be realeased and any other information bout it!
To Dave: Thanks for answering the Beatles question, I think American music was somewhat influenced by there music. Thanks for the response. Does Carmen ever post on 6767 or TPC or is it something you do by yourself? Are there any other band members within the forums? And finally, do you consider yourself Democrat, Republican, neither? Do you have a standpoint on the war? The president? Are these the types of questions you cant answer/have to avoid?
To everyone: Have a stellar day, I be sending CD copies out this week. Email an address if youd like one. The only requirement is that after you listen to it you send your comments/criticisms. Rantz-your first! N'Joy!
The mad fan!

No, no competition, no voting, no anything but a lot of joshing.....Did you know his name is Joseph as well?/
I fear I am past people's frame of reference for my humor..comedy is SO subjective!!
Anyway, did you know that when Lyndon B. Johnson announced he wasn't going to run for reelection( by the way, has ANYBODY done that before or since?) he gave this line
"If nominated I will not run, If elected I will not serve"..
powerful words, those...
it's not up to me, I can barely moderate my own behavior, in fact I am looking for a personal moderator
DAVE!! do they have them in LA, are they the ones they call "life coaches"?

Hi Sue,
Thanks for the response! Guess I wasn't looking, I was too busy focusing my cameras on the performers faces!
Actually I was up front shooting the show, almost but not quite leaning on the stage (I'm too short to lean on that stage), in the thick of the photo pit! lol
I was on the right side, Billy's side. I got some awesome shots of Billy, Lou Reed, Chaney, Perk & Gina and yes, I DID get some of Jerry. My flash unit broke off one of my cameras( the hotshoe attachment cracked off), so I had to wait until the lights went up,
I also shot with an extra small auto camera I, thankfully, happened to have with me~~! So I did get some great photos. NOT as GREAT as Wendy's though!
I did photograph Jerry, but they were side angled shots, I have a few more rolls to develop.....old school equipment here...non digital, non automatic, heavy metal Nikon/Minolta cameras!
I'll send you some of the IP show jpegs.
take care,

Another good day!
After church and lunch, I get a couple of hours on the 'puter while the other half watch men throwing balls and knocking each other down - LOL. Need to know who will be facing my STEELERS next week!
Carmen was just on the MONK marathon. Was that really her singing in the beginning?
Well, now to check out the community, read my news, pack my little guy up for a mini-vaca with the grandparents.
Think I'll play Bloody Mary one more time . . . at least . . .
Always,

Hello Dave and hello to the family.
Well TPC forums seems to be a HYGE success, so far, it's tough to keep up. Nevertheless.. WAY TO GO with the forum.
Dave, I have never asked a question of you before but I was wondering...
When the band was just starting to put down tracks for the album, you said there might be a webcam in the studio. Did this idea ever get off the ground ? Or were there some problems and the webcam in the studio never became a reality ?
Thanks, in advance.

Hi Dave and all the great people I've "met",
Dave - Great answers, as usual. We always learn something new about you! (I can't say I'm surprised about the "rag" comment... after all, you're no stranger to blood!)
I normally avoid writing lengthy rants, but I'm feeling sentimental tonight, as it's my last my last night of "freedom" before returning to full-time work tomorrow... So...
I'm bummed out that I don't live near you and everyone else, hence I'll never be able to truly hang out w/ you. (And perhaps be another one of your "favorite people.") But I really appreciate how you are doing everything possible to bring us together. Hopefully I'll get the hang of the "techie" stuff soon enough, and we can all chat. Or hopefully I'll get through on CFR one night.
But even if that doesn't happen, this alone has been great. I loved just being HERE at 6767; now we have a whole other community (TPC) as well, which is doubly wonderful.
During my hiatus from work the past few months, I've really loved being here and getting to know all of you. The love and positive energy has really helped me keep my own spirits up, always putting a smile on my face. Dave, you're such a nice person, and ALL of you are just so open, friendly, and interesting.
As I embark on the new job tomorrow, I realize that I might not be around as much. I have to see what happens. But as I always say, I'll be here in spirit.
Please don't forget about me, and I won't forget about you!
Lots of love,
-Denise

I have been looking for a new job for several months. Lots of bites, but no takers - yet! I am hoping that will all change here in 2005.
My job allows me some time on the net. Like now. I should be processing mail from the weekend, but that is all I have to do today as the government offices are closed.
You'll find a way to keep on here. I check it a dozen times a day!
Have a good first day!

Good afternoon everyone, Ive fallen behind keeping up on the postings for like sixteen hours, and man it was tough reading all the posts to catch up!
Jezzi-LBJ is one of the greatest presidents I can think of. He proposed more acts than any other president. Without him the meat would not be "wholesome."
Dave-You should check out some Velvet Underground covers. Nirvana covering "Here She Comes Now" is incredible. Also I caught Phish cover-"Sweet Jane" several time-on New Years they did a 23 minute "Sweet Jane" that was so funky and improvisational-not sure if thats your thing????????? Also about six years ago on Halloween they covered "Loaded." So many fans didnt realize what they had seen and were pissed because they were supposed to cover Dark Side of the Moon. Too bad for them! That was the year they covered the "White Album." You think the Panic Channel would ever cover the "White Album?"
Am I being rediculous? I really dont even know your knew bands style and sound! Enlighten me, Im seriously curious!
Sorry about the Phish talk, everyone! We all have our heros.

"Jezzi-LBJ is one of the greatest presidents I can think of. He proposed more acts than any other president. Without him the meat would not be "wholesome."
With all due respect Boots, you're woefully misinformed. LBJ was the biggest blight on the Democratic party in, well, just about since inception. He took a semi-restrained "police action" in Vietnam and made it into the biggest stain on this country's history. Why do you think he wouldn't run for office again? The dude fucked up, he knew he was fucking up, and didn't have the balls to admit it to himself or the country at the time. I remember seeing the fall of Saigon on TV (of course, this was many years after LBJ)but the point is, he could've stopped it when he had the chance, America's participation, but NO, he let it spiral out of control until it became a big ole ugly ass monster. I hardly think his "meat acts" offset his lack of clarity or use of extreme bad judgement.

Phil: What's your favorite Jane's song?
Eric: I don't know. Maybe Mountain Song because it was the first thing Perry and I came up with (pre-Janes) and I love Dave's guitar solo at the key change.
"comin down the mountain, one of many children.."
= i was withdrawing from heroin.
"everybody has their own opinion"
= everyone has their own 'special' symptom of withdrawal.
"holding it back hurts so bad"
= trying to act normal during withdrawal hurts so bad (it can kill you).
"jumping out of my flesh"
= withdrawal takes over, has a life of its own.
"cash in cash in..."
= i said buy some more heroin to get rid of the withdrawal....next verse is the same except...
"met a child, she had pin/dark eyes, we had the same opinion"
= one of the symptoms of withdrawal is the pupils changing in size regardless of the lighting.
* Jane's made a video for a demo version of "Had A Dad" in late 1986 or early 1987. It was very low-budget... Basically just them jumping around somewhere in the Hollywood hills. The video got played at least once or twice on MTV
Dave in Guitar World, 3/96...
"I've always hated the Rolling Stones," says Navarro. "Doing that song arose out of one of those situations where you're trying to write a song, and all of a sudden somebody starts singing the words to some other song on top of it. We did that song as a joke, and it ended up on the record."
Dave in Guitar World, 9/91...
"...On our first album, Live XXX, there's a cover of "Sympathy For The Devil." And personally--people get surprised and shocked when they hear this, sometimes angry--I hate the Rolling Stones. I always have and I think I always will. I like what they've contributed to the industry, but I would never put on a Rolling Stones record. But did you guys ever get in that trap where you're playing something and you think it's great, and all of a sudden someone starts singing the words to some other song? We ended up singing "Sympathy For The Devil" as a joke, and we played it live and it ended up on the record. I can't believe that one of my least favorite bands is on my first record."

I know Neil's in the midst of his new book, feeling rather slammed by it all. I'm sure it'll be unbelievable as always.
I don't have Neil sign stuff in the same way as I don't have Tori sign stuff for people or pass messages on. I kinda feel like that's a violation of friendship and trust to just act as a relay. Esp. when they are both really good about signing stuff and are out in the world enough to do it (book signing, shows, readings, cons, etc) Sorry, I even have that stance with my best friends. I'll gladly introduce people if they are in the same room though! :)

Hi Dave,
In articles and T.V. interviews you sometimes mention "not eating any carbs" or very small amounts. This is also something that I try to practice and wanted to know if you can show me some tips. What does an average daily meal consist of in the house of the Navarro's? Also, do you and Carmen do most of your own cooking?
Thanks!

Hi Everyone!
Thanks so much for all your kind words about the job. I survived the first day, and it actually seems like a great, cool bunch of people. The conversations we had today could easily rival the ones on the TPC board! I think I'm gonna like it there. ;)
Anyhow, I hope all is well with everyone, and I'll definitely see you around. Hopefully more often than not.
Love,

To Lyn: I just like LBJ cause I did a project on him in H.S, like ten years ago. Im glad the meats wholesome.....thats what I put in the report! I always thought LBJ kinda inherited the war when he became president. I guess Im out of touch, but in the report I wrote him off as a good dude! I never was a history buff though. So, I am misinformed on a topic I should care more about. Is he worst than are President Bush-in my eyes he is a war mongroler too.
Rantz-Im siked for the book. I would never ask you to get me an autograph, and totally understand your ideal. I packaged that CD for sending also
Jezzi-Your copys done too, Ill send those tomorrow.

Posted by: sexsinger at January 17, 2005 05:53 PM
Jez hon, it's not a mess, nor a debate, it's just that boots was misinformed, that's all.
Boots: 65000 American deaths, God knows how many Vietnamese, 20 years, and for what? Nothing, that's what. And no, LBJ didn't inherit the war, he inherited a situation that he himself let turn into full fledged war, without ever actually declaring it. It's a particular sore point with me when anyone mentions him in a good light. I'm a lifelong dem, but the difference tween us and the repubs is that we admit our mistakes, and LBJ never once did, except to not run for office again. As for the comparison to the current situation, yes, it's frighteningly similar.
Posted by: Lyn at January 17, 2005 05:55 PM
I saw you on the show Pimp my Ride i think it was a few days ago. I never new you could DJ too
Posted by: Pinhead at January 17, 2005 06:56 PM
Well Lyn, I know nothing else on LBJ so dont worry about any more LBJ comments or political comments although Im curious on Daves perspective of our current president. I truly didnt mean to push any buttons. If I can dig up the report (which is possible) Id love to share it so we could share some laughs for shits and giggles. I tried to clarify myself, not argue. Im sorry if I angered you as youve mention its a touchy subject. To prove I meant no harm-I was born in 1979. Truce?
Much love lynne

Of course, Sweetie :). I'm not arguing, it's just that LBJ sucked. Bad. A Big One. Having known personally many Vietnam vets and seeing what it did to them, the whole damn thing just pisses me off cause it was so stupid (the war, not you). You were born in 1979, huh? Awesome. Say, btw, what are you wearing?

Hey Dave and family,
I haven't posted in a while, I've been really busy. I've been kind of down and out lately. Both of my parents aren't doing to well. They are both ill, my dad has a severe brain injury and now we found out that my mom most likely has MS. It's just been really hard, I try to stay strong the rest of my family because I feel like there's a lot of pressure put on me. It's really starting to get to me. I've been turning to other "things" to help with it, but I know that's not good. Sorry to ramble on about my problems, I just feel alone and kind of scared. I was just wondering what you do when you have family problems and a lot of pressure on your shoulders. Much love to you and the family!

I'm not sure if you've already been asked this question but who came up with the TPC logo and what does it mean to you guys. Just curious. - Peace

Crazy -
Sorry to hear about your situation with you parents.
One of my best friends has MS... she was diagnosed when she was about 30. Thankfully, they caught it in the early stages, and they have it under control with medication. (In her case, she has to give herself shots every night, which is tough for her, but there's no other choice.) The medication slows down the degenerative process... it almost stops it.
I have my fingers crossed that she will stay where she's at... and I hope your mother has similar luck.
Read up and learn all you can about it... she does have some options.
Take care,
-Denise

from RossHalfin.co.uk "Expected Perry Farrell to be a nightmare - he couldn't have been nicer. Dave Navarro, who I thought would be great, was a complete wanker. Covered in makeup, he actually asked me "why have you taken 4 rolls of Perry and only 3 rolls of me?" Get a life!"

i think quitting smoking would be a great idea. i was quite surprised to hear that you still smoked after reading this for a couple of months and all the things you say about coming clean.... i would consider quitting smoking part of that coming clean. smoking is a public display of weakness.

As for TPC covering an album I think it would beyond killer if they did Floyd's "Animals".. That just seems like a kick ass album to do.

To Lyn: Im glad were off the LBJ topic now, it was bothering me that I might have upset someone with foolishness that was unintentional. Im a Pisces, go figure!
Jezzi and Rantz: Just got back from the post office, the postal worker said they should arrive in 4-5 days. I think im more excited than anyone!
Crazy: You come to the right place to share your problem. "Let go and let God"

OK I don't get it someone is always trying to be the first to post, now i figure it takes more skill to be the last, no? Just an idea, but what do I know. I just had a few questions I wanted to ask:
1)I'm gonna be in L.A from March the 21st till the 25th, other than any Panic Channel shows is there any really cool music clubs anyone can recomend?
2)Dave any opinion on the band Dream Theater?
3)Dave what is the most memorable gig you have played so far?
Anyway until further notice, Peace.
Posted by: Lee at January 18, 2005 09:52 AM
Hey all!
Denise, how was your first day at the new job?
Dave, this is my opinion. The Panic Community is great. But I must say, I find this one still awesome. Here feels like home. And it is the personal attention you give us here that makes us a kind of family.
Thanks for everything Dave!
Always,
