Start of Darkness
Good morning. Yesterday we recorded a track called Start of Darkness. Sounds really good. We did it up at this crazy house in the hills with Scott Humphrey and while I was there, I did some stuff on Tommy Lee's new record. Really fun stuff.
1. Dave-R U a fan of Lord of The Rings? Whats your favorite movie? Favorite book?
I haven't seen them. I plan to get all three the next time I have a day off and it is raining. Sounds like a "day".
2. Dave - do you have any tips on recording distorted guitar sounds directly into protools, logic, etc?
Sounds like you are on the right track. I know there is a plug-in called Amp Farm, but for the most part, I don't like to go direct unless I want that "sizzle" for a specific purpose or sound.
3. Hey man I saw Carmen on the Kid Rock Christmas special with the Pussycat Dolls.. anywho I was wondering if you had any plans of laying down guitar tracks with the Dolls or having them guest on something you do.
Carm is actually doing a new group called Carmen Electra and the Bombshells. They are opening for Camp Freddy at the Key Club on January 27th. The Tsunami Relief show.
4. If rhcp asked u to be a special guest at a show with them an play sum one hot minute songs?
Oh, of course I would.
5. I know that the photo strips in DTTAH aren't necessarily in chronological order, but I was curious whether the photos of you on pages 229 and 231 were taken before or after rehab. You look like you a sense of happiness and peace in the pics.
Trippy! Those were straight outta rehab, the final time.
See you at The Panic Community.

Just in terms of technology, blogs typically have a different use than boards so you have to change your mental framework if you're going from reading 6767 to the Panic Community. Boards also have a sense of being quite interactive and lively which is perfect for Panic!
I haven't been reading 6767 very long so I'm probably not as established in the social sense of community as others, but my take on 6767 vs. Panic Community is that 6767 is focused primarily on Dave whereas the the Panic Community is focused on the band. There's a sense of community in both but it's just a different focus.

Hey Dave.
I haven't looked at the Panic Channel Community yet, but I'm on my way now to join.
there's lots of tsunami benefit concerts happening in the UK, and I'm going to the one at Cardiff Millenium Stadium on the 22nd January. The capacity is 65,000 and its sold out.
Is there anything of that size happening in the US?

Hey Dave
I saw on TV today that Carmen is going to be in Toronto next week on a sports show called Off The Record.
Are you coming up with her ?
I could recommend some cool places to hang out if you haven't been here before.

Hey dave, just finished your book today. Awesome awesome job! Thanks for sharing that part of your life with the readers of your book. But I made me realize something that I've realized before but wasnt deep into it... that my boyfriend sucks. In other words, I took in the information about relationships (not drugs)and he doesnt listen to me, I cant get a freak'n word in. He takes whatever I say and adds shit to it, and make it sound like I'm a big bitch. When he insults me for a stupid reason, its all lies. And he doesnt communicate at all with me. We've been going out for alittle over two years, and not once have we had a good intimate "talk"/"conversation". I've tried but he doesnt take it seriously... and I've said everything I possibly could, and I think its just no use. Nothing can help this kid. And the one reason I cry about it, not because you know I "LOVE" him and I'm just sooo dependant (like you know when those girls cry and its like oohhhh i cant live w/o him and stuff like that), well thats not how it is, I think its because I know hes better than that but he just wont change, hes horrible. And that because I've been with this kid for 2 years, I've been torn to peices and I now I feel useless. I mean just saying this wont do enough... its more sad than it sounds... but THANKS for giving me that information that opened a little door, and THANKS so much for that book... I was addicted to it and still am.. maybe I'll read it again. Heh gee I'm so pathetic. Anwaysss, love you and carmen. Have a nice dayy!

heLLo!
Just checkin in, not much to report, apart from the fact that i'm gonna have like 2 or 3 weeks break to work on songs and graph/video projects, so it's all good.
As mentionned on the PaNIC forum, Im hosting the DragonFly boot, go and check the forum to get the address.
On an Apple note, I'm not really sure about this mac mini sub 500$ ! but if it can help apple, why not? as long as we don't become windows! I'll hold on to my baby G5's.

What's pop'n kidz??? Dave you have the makins of being a great Daddy one day, I mean your so good to us that can you imagine who awesome you'll be with your own biological children!!!
Anyhow, I've registered at TPC but just don't have that much free time to explore. For those of you who do...are you guys having a blast over there. It's a little more cozy for me here and can't wait to make some friends out of the regulars.
Jess~
One of the biggest lessons I've learned in relationships is that being with someone or staying with someone because of the potential I see in them hasn't been a wise idea. They never saw what I saw. Which turned out to me being with someone that didn't really exist. Hope things work out for you and your boy, it didn't for me until I came to the realization that I don't want to live life like this for 2 years or 10 years because the viberant independant woman I was... was changing into a mentally and emotionally abused woman that I didn't want to be!!!
Dave~
It took me forever to see the bloody mary video, but when I did I got totally excited for you and your project and can't wait for you guys to come to San Francisco. Seeing you Jam brought back a recent memory of the last time you played in SF with Janes for live 105's 2003 Not So Silent Night Christmas Concert (Do you remember this show?) My girlfriend didn't believe I would get us to the front of your side of the stage, but when I did, you looked happy to be a newlywed but seemed work wise it was just another run of the mill. However, seeing you jam in the video, you look revived and sooo into it. Any comment on the differences???
Back to work I go...Thanx for the break!!!
Kisses

Yes, BEAUTIFUL art today...too bad we can no longer download the photos & art here~~!
I'd like some opinions from the people HERE about the current vibe at the Panic Community.
I was really looking forward to the new Panic Community, but over the past 2 days there seems to be so MANY people coming out of nowhere to spam & ARGUE and just generally stir up SHIT.
I don't think I'll be going back there too often.
Who needs the aggro!? The vibe there is kind of mean, nasty & just plain juvenile.
Must ALL messagboards disintergrate this way? There's a big difference between 'lively discussions' & outright vile 'name calling'.
Of course, it's NOT coming from any of US here, I have no idea who some of these newbie people are. Of course, I'm sure some of them aren't even true Dave/PC fans, they just come to messagboards to spam & get attention.
There always has to be ONE person to spoil it all. It's easy to say "IGNORE", which I have posted there...only to be trailed by this new chick & be called a "bitch".
I predict MANY problems within the next few weeks unless these handful of people are dealt with very SOON.
Guess I'll stay here, until things simmer down.
take care,
itanja

Posted by: AeroGem at January 12, 2005 05:12 PM
Hi All! I agree that 'Requiem' Is a defenate statement on what various addictions will lead to. Too much of any thing is not good.. maybe. Spun did glorify it a bit. You never really cared about those characters like you did Jared Leto's or, moreover his Mom. A beautifully disgusting movie with the most beautiful (and convincing) Jennifer Connelly.
Posted by: Jim hill at January 12, 2005 05:12 PM
About the 2 locations... I agree that this place feels more intimate, more like "home". The main thing that I like about the other board is the fact that we can sort through various topics and/or go off on fun little tangents.
Every board is always going to have its trolls, its s*it-stirrers, its attention-whores, its cliques. Ever since the advent of the internet, that seems to be the natural course of things. But if you can deal with it and take it all w/ a grain of salt, it can certainly be entertaining, fun... and insightful.
See you in either place!
Cheers,
-Denise
Posted by: Denise at January 12, 2005 05:37 PM
Yes Denise......VERY "insightful" into the minds os some pretty nasty people, whose sole purpose in life IS to be shit stirrers! lol They NEED to have the LAST word & the ONLY word.
When people trail others on messageboards to simply argue and get a rise out of them.....it's much more than simply being annoying... their actions are telling me that...bottom line: they ARE headcases, with too much time on their hands.
Seriously, it's the cyber version of stalking. :(

i think it's going to be so hot when it comes out!
Posted by: crashfx at January 12, 2005 07:12 PM
Itanja...I must admit, I usually try to just let it roll off but, she pushed my buttons today too and, as I'm sure she wanted, I reacted.
I have doubled my resolve and conviction that if I (and others) just ignore her, eventually she will stop having fun and go away.

PS...Today's art does rock! Who do we thank???
Posted by: Cori at January 12, 2005 07:42 PM
Where has my night gone? Seriously, the new message board is completely addictive.
Since it's slow at the moment, I just wanted to share this with everyone, including Dave. I read recently that someone died from drinking a can of Coke because there was rat urine on the top of the can. Since I'm a soda junkie (and I know CE is too), this scares me. I usually wipe them off, but now I'm very very thorough about it. I got the info from an email forward, which I usually regard as hoaxes - but this seems likely. Just something to look out for guys!
You don't want your Tab spiked with Drain-o.
Posted by: Theresa at January 12, 2005 07:52 PM
PS - Cori I agree, just ignore her.
I don't usually pay mind to anyone who likes a certain artist that mispronounces "Bowie" anyway.
Posted by: Theresa at January 12, 2005 07:54 PM
Jess~You are strong. Brave, and courageous. Never pathetic. Facing up to things is so brave. I am honoured you shared that with us.
Loads of hugs, Lisa
Posted by: ylais at January 12, 2005 08:13 PM
Hey Theresa,
I've heard that rumor too, about Coke cans. I've heard that it IS a hoax. (In fact, there is a site somewhere on the web about email "urban legends", where you can double-check.)
Still, I always check the tops of soda cans to see if they're clean. They usually ARE, especially if you buy them by the case. Even the vending machine ones are usually clean... but when in doubt, rinse it out. Or pour the soda into a cup.
Stay healthy. :)

Good evening everyone, hope all is well with everybody. Thanks to those who gave some tips on tweeking the fender m-80. To Jezebel-I have six ******, The f'n montecca had me bundled up regardless of the weather for five years strait! I was skeletor! Ill email ya with those details someday. Oh-Requiem for a Dream-ahhhhh that movie makes me all depressed. KIDS reminds me of life in New Haven. Thanks Dave for replying to my question-Im not really the "mad fan", but for sure I was happy to see your post (Lord o t rings)and Im really glad that I read your book. Have you read Anthony Keidas' Scar Tissue. That was a great read too! Im completing Andy Warhol's Diary now.
I had this idea to put together a compilation album made from contributions from this sites members! I have a track ready, and am sure im not the only one considering how common pro tools is spoken of. Let me know if im the only one curious about the talent in this room. I assume Dave is not the only person in here with artistic creativity. So think about a 6767 album for the family here to enjoy.
Anythings possible. Shake it sleasy!

Itanja, I debated whether or not to let my teenager watch "Requiem for a Dream", and or "The Basketball Diaries" and decided at this point it has way too much information...but for teens who have already been exposed to things that are way too adult for the average adult, they do give a glimpse of the possible.

Good question JDRMMER, I hope dave answers that question with the detail. Ever heard "Marigold" by Nirvana with Grohl singing. Its in the Nirvana Box set, if you never have. All you west coasters are so lucky to have the Long Beach Dub All Stars out there. On the East Coast we dont have anything funky like that. Well, I guess we have Culture. Any DJ Shadow admirers. On the East coast we have DJ Nickodemius, DJ Mariano, and DJ Logic who I got to see play with the Roots. Those guys are really nice people too. But Shadow-- Hes a smart f'n dude, and a real good musician on top of being business savy.
De La Sol's from LA too? Dave you got so many people to access during your life. Theres also a great band from New England called Dispatch.(Check em out!_ They were incredible but I dont think they are together these days. Dave-Have you checked out any live Phish? Studio stuff? I got to see Trey play with Les Claypool and Stuart Copeland once. "OYSTERHEAD!" Oh and I was fifth row and Phish brought out BB King and they were soloing back and forth, and Trey looked nervious and was motioning for BB to control the jam with his hands. That was just incredible. Trey Anastasio-nervous?????I guess that would make anyone nervous, unless you ate so much xanax everything was to slow to care. That wasnt the case!

So, I am curious about 6767... tell me about that. what is the focus? i know a guy who is terrified & thinks that he's haunted by 11:11.
Posted by: Stagger at January 13, 2005 03:42 PM
6767 is Dave's birthday, June 7, 1967.
What do you mean, haunted by 11:11? Elaborate, please, I'm intrigued.

Hi Sue,
The young girl fighting at the PC Community called me a "bitch" right on the Panic Channel messageboard, thankfully she didn't email me.
She was clearly fighting online with anyone who would take her bait. I just commented to "IGNORE" & she was then trailing everyone in that thread.
I think she called some of the 6767 Ladies posting there,"hookers"! Just the usual rants of a kid who wants attention.
I did look up her bio. She also posted a photo of herself, she looks to be about 14-15! Guess she needs to grow up some~~!!
Well I've continued to post there, she's NOT keeping me away! I've noticed she wasn't around today, perhaps she was banned??
Thanks for your input~~!!

ok, I think I need to clarify the little girl's comments...she said that she didn't understand why any girl would give a guy oral satisfaction unless she was a prostitute, I then told her that I was a bit insulted that she was, in effect, calling me a hooker.....
After all was said and done, we exchanged a couple messages..she seemed VERY young, and was probably a little hurt that her request to be a moderator wasn't immediately answered.
I think we should give her another chance...My son used to do the same thing on this one board I was on a few years ago, he wanted to be a part of something I was doing, I let him register, and he fought a few battles with other members, it made him feel big....
the name calling though, that was uncalled for, and she was asked to give you an apology, she apologized to me, and I will bet you, if you were to ask privately, she would apologize to you as well

What are they teaching the kiddies these days no BJ’s? :D
Actually I’m still trying to get past the gag reflex myself.

Do you guys need me to moderate some stuff? HEck make me moderator. I would keep things in line if I could figure out where the trouble was, how to diagnose it and so on. The key is the keywords like stop and please and maybe. Those can keep everyone in check. Jezebel and anyone else:send an email to djboots40@cox.net with an adress and Ill send you my demo. Then you guys can tear it to shreads, or really dig it or whatever was meant to be!
Today was the toughest day man! My pops can be f'n evil and he tore into me calling me a junkie piece of shit out of knowwhere. I called him to get a ride when my car broke down on the way to work and he left me there after he ripped me to shit. I got six stars, never stole from anyone. He was rippin Methadone maintenance, and every weakness I have. Ill never forget this day. I wanted to shoot 0 2 into my veins after he was through with me.
Anyone in recovery dealt w/ this stuff. Dont feel like AA lately! Part of me fears to much that Ill get to involved and that its cult like in ways. Especially NA.
Im a f'n "day counter"! Wish me a better day tomorrow!
The artists in the forum need to speak out, Id love to check yas out.
Love
Boots

I’m wishing you a better day, future … beginning this instant. May tomorrow bring you great joy or at least give you peace. Parents could be tough sometimes.

BOOTS!!!!!HEY!!!!!!! I'm right here!!!
I tried to send you email yesterday, it got kicked back...everything is going to be ok. I don't want to get all spiritual and stuff, but the devil is a really tricky guy, and he hates to see you get away from him....so he knows how to push your buttons..be careful not to speak your fears aloud, cause then he knows them...
as for AA and getting involved and being in a cult FUCK THAT!!!! You already ARE in a cult of addiction...But I get what you are saying, you need to surround yourself with people who have been away from it for a while, not just those who are still in the newness of being away, does that make sense?
Find one of the oldtimers, and latch onto them...please, I will be right here
love,
jezzi

Hi jezzi,
"I think we should give her another chance"
"the name calling though, that was uncalled for, and she was asked to give you an apology, she apologized to me, and I will bet you, if you were to ask privately, she would apologize to you as well"
The point is, I went through ALL this many years ago at Dave's old Capitol board & the once wonderful, now defunct, iMUSIC Spread board.....with wacky people who came out of nowhere to destroy some GREAT things.
Bowing to them is EXACTLY what they want! It's all about THEM getting a rise out of YOU. Acknowledging their taunts gives them a sense of power. lol
Perhaps you have a lot more compassion than I do, but I am TIRED of entertaining the rants of self absorbed kids.
I simply refuse to deal with it again. I will take my own advice, I will IGNORE her and anyone else who trails me there.
I'm not going to PM this silly child, it's not worth my time.
take care,
itanja

I'm with the ignoring thing too. Works wonders. Okay, I still get angry or annoyed sometimes...I know you guys have seen that..., but mostly I shrug it off. I've had my fill of that kind of thing with people as well.
I figure though, quite a bit of that goes on naturally with people all jostling for position.
It's different when it's someone you don't know fighting with you for no apparent reason, than when it's a friend or acquaintance. We all get in fights with people we're close too.

aint love divine? when you find the right girl your whole world rocks. Dave, your music (with all of the various bands you have been a part of as well as that of your JA bandmates) has accompanied us through tons of the events in our lives for over a decade now and we hope to play the new 'rush-goth' pc album at our upcoming wedding reception. When is the album due out?
Posted by: nicolas at January 13, 2005 11:18 PM
hey Dave and all
The forum over at Panic Channel is excellent! Very cool.
During your visits to Sydney, did you spend any time in Kings Cross?
peace

Well, the one thing that girl proved is that she doesn’t have the maturity to be a mod.
And that’s all I have to say about that…
But HEY, check it out, 80’s freaks…

itanja,
People are nasty, but there's alot of fun on the board and you can tell there are some cool people there so don't vito it. As for true Dave fans, I get really paranoid every time I ask Dave a question (because of society etc) coz I think he'll take me for someone who is being insincere but then I thought f**k it coz I know I'm a fan and as a fan I should support TPC in all it's creative ventures so there!

Dam blowjobs,hookers.....I missed that one. The board is awesome, the majority of us are so open minded....finally a board that we can cuss, use caps, post naked pictures, say m*therf*cker..I love it Dave!!!
Posted by: Colleen at January 14, 2005 06:14 AM
Hmmmmmm - I must have missed the open language thing when I registered - I remember something popping up saying certain aspects were not acceptable . . .
Anyway, just wanted to say RIP Spencer and Jimmy . . .

Morning...It's friday and it feels like monday all over again. I've been too busy and can't wait for the sprint to end, just a few more weeks.
Boots~
I don't know you but hang in there!!! Parents can be hurtful and sometimes just don't seem to know us. I guess that would be his loss for not knowing who you really are inside. Never give anyone the power to make you want to revert to old bad dirty habbits. I love it that old friends can't influence me chemically anymore. I love it even more that I don't feel superior or left out for not indulging.
Itanja~
Girl, sounds like that chic is OAM...you don't even know eachother, that alone is enough to blow her off. Your posts come accross like your totally anoyed. That probably sounds judgemental, I'm not, I just wish it wasn't so disruptive for you cause your just enjoying your venture in our world here.
Curiosity is totally killing me...Cant stop wondering about "Start of Darkness" Dave, how good does it sound. You guys are probably sooo bizy in your mode.
Corporate america really sucks and I'm having a hell of a time with it!!!
TPC Community looks like its nutz over there, still don't have the time to hang out.
Jess~
Hope things are better for you girlfriend. Looks like you got some cool chics supporting you in the right way.
Finally Frisco's seeing some son, and really bumbed bout missing Banyan last weekend, perks sight was down...couldn't find any lead info and then bamb...banyan at the Galaxie in SF. I hate being late.

Happy Friday Dave and Family!
Boots...hang in there Sweetie...any time you need to vent, we're here for you.
Re: Free Daze..two things to say...(1) she/he/it seems to be gone now, so maybe the problem resolved itself. (2) I noticed on one of the other Boards that some of "our old friends" said they are coming on using different names and posting stupid/argumentative stuff just to be destructive and stir things up. Ignoring completely seems to be the way to go...you never really know who you're dealing with and what their motivations are. ;)
Posted by: Cori at January 14, 2005 09:44 AM
Boots,
Hang in there, you are doing great. Your dad is still seeing who he thought you were, not who you are and can be. Keep doing what you're doing now and you will be just fine. We are all rooting for you!
