Rainy Day

Rain. A lot of rain in L.A. I love it.
"I love the rain. It washes memories off the sidewalks of life." - Woody Allen - Play It Again, Sam

Perkins is off doing some Banyan gigs so we are kind of just chillin for a few days. I have all these screening copies of films for the awards. Rain, day off, movies... I couldn't have planned it better.
So far I have checked out, The Woodsman, with Kevin Bacon, about a pedophile who is dealing with life after prison. It is slow, kind of a "mood" film like Garden State or Lost In Translation. I enjoyed it. Ray, with Jamie Foxx, just incredible. Maria Full Of Grace, dark drug smuggling movie. Pretty good. The Assassination Of Richard Nixon, with Sean Penn. Penn is always terrific. In Good Company, with Dennis Quaid just seemed like a cable movie but Marg Helgenberger is always worth watching. Beyond The Sea with, Kevin Spacey, I got through 1/3 of it and couldn't do it anymore. The Machinist, with Christian Bale. Kind of Fight Club/Memento-ish, but Bale's commitment to the craft is unreal. I read he got down to eating only an apple a day. Today is all about the House Of the Flying Daggers.

1. I've been trying to start a Jane's Addiction tribute band for a while now here in LA. But I just realized I probably need to ask first. May I have your blessing?

Hell, yes!

2. Will Carmen ever join CF on-stage?

There is a really great chance that she will be joining us on the 27th in some capacity.

3. How is Scotty doing?

He is really strong and healthy.

4. The question I have is about the note you left for Fiona Apple (in blood). What did it say?

"Have a great show. DN"

5. I once read that you were given an amp that David Gilmore used while recording The Wall. That has to be the coolest damn thing ever. Have you ever used it on any of your recordings?

I haven't but it was given to me by Bob Ezrin. I love just being in the same room with that thing.

Dave,

I hope the show on the 27th is killer... Any chance of getting some video from the show? I know we ask this all the time.

Also is there anyway those of us who are not attending can help with your fund to aid these victims?

DAVE!! You read my mind!! I was just going to tell Mouse NOT to do anything this weekend except rent movies, listen to CDs, read books, and play with pets...

Flash flood warnings abounding from here to Mexico, my sweet!!

I totally agree with Dave's opinions of flicks, not just cause he is so DREAMY!! the ones I haven't seen is Assassination of Richard Nixon, and the Machinist, but I loved Ray for Jamie's committment to the role, and Maria, Full of Grace for its realism...
As for the Woodsman, I couldn't really watch it, too dark, and Beyond the Sea, though I am a big Kevin Spacey fan, was just too cheesy!!, definitely Lifetime material...
They are showing House of the Flying Daggers at Palm Springs Film Festival, might have to check it out!!

Carmen at Camp Freddy, there's your birthday present, Brett!!!

jezebel(is it 4 yet?)

I was wondering about the Fiona Apple message as well, while I was reading your book (for the millionth time) on the way to work this morning.

You guys have to do a show in June this year, while I'm down in LA. I can't make it to the January 27th show, as I had planned out on Expedia (as you suggested).

Money is just too tight, after not having a job from November 1st until this week.

Carmen on stage would be a real party. I love that girl.

Also, have you seen Gattaca with Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman? Amazing movie.

Hey Everyone,

I just came to check out 6767.com, i finally see that the sites been updated from that unicorn on the main page. Looks like a strong comunity here.

Ever Since DAve got really famous, people have been saying i Look like him

Anyway I was wondering does anyone have a copy of the old versions of rexall and hungry?

Once again, I am jealous of those on the West Coast. Can't get there to see anything - and NYC is a 7 hour drive - so it is just as far!

I am sure some of the family will be able to fill those of us who can't attend in on the show!

Rock On Dude!

Jezebel-"Carmen at Camp Freddy, there's your birthday present, Brett!!!" Oh no no no!!!!! I have already seen Carmen in the Pussy Cat Dolls back when Jane's played the Palms in LV. Seeing "You" will be my Birthday Present. Looking forward to talking/catching up;)!

Rain until Tuesday? We were going to take my parents to the San Diego zoo late in the morning/early afternoon but I'm not sure any animals will be out. I'm sure we'll figure out something that's indoors to do down there like a museum or something. And I haven't seen Lemony Snicket yet, either!
Although I do love staying in and watching movies, reading, and listening to music when the weather's like this... It fricken HAILED in North hollywood/universal city a few days ago, that was pretty cool, haven't seen hail in a while.

I'm with you on Beyond The Sea D-dogg, I had the same reaction!
You know what I want to see? White Noise.

Posted by: mortisha8 at January 7, 2005 11:08 AM

A minute of riffs for the 189 young rockers that passed away last 30/12/04 here in Buenos Aires at the Cromagnon Republic. the building has a capacity for 1,500 people but more than 4,000 was there, most teenagers, were inside the club for a concert by the Argentine rock band Callejeros, with the emergency exit clossed
someone in the crowd set off a flare that ignited the foam ceiling, transforming the indoor rock concert into a death-trap.
Many friends of mine aren't with me now. is unreal.
I hope you have more security over there. by now im too sad to play.

camilo....I am truly sorry for the loss of life, it seems it got buried in the press because of everything in Southeast Asia...The fact that there were children killed as well, because they were using part of the club as a daycare was especially tragic....

Hopefully, their deaths will spur legislation and tougher sanctions against clubowners that violate safety rules for the sake of a cover charge....

on to lighter things...Brett, you STUD!!!! Yes, we do have catching up to do, mostly, want to thank you in person for being there for me when I was going through trauma with my boy...it's still rocky, but saw him just last night, and though he is happy with living arrangement, I can tell he misses me, he asked for help with his homework last night....joy of joys!!!

Mouse, I'm feelin' ya...it's hard for me to stay inside for too long....have fun in San Diego...tons to do!!!

Dave:

Agree with all of those! Rainy days and hanging with the pups on the couch watching movies. Loved Memento, Garden State is on deck for this weekend, and Sean Penn is so talented (and a dedicated activitist to boot!). May I suggest one if you haven't already seen it? "25th Hour", a 2002 film by Spike with Edward North & Barry Pepper - one of my faves, and sorta fits into your mood-film mood. We just saw Lemony Snicket. I really like Carrey and loved him in Eternal Sunshine but just couldn't get into this one. Love Kevin Spacey, but I think I'll take your advice and skip Beyond the Sea. Thanks for saving us the $3.95 dvd rental.

We're having thundersnow in the Twin Cities. Shout to Brett and Angel!

Whats up Dave,
I spoke to you on CFR the night you were doing the "Christmas show".....we talked about Ocean's 12....
was wondering what I could do to have my band support the next TPC show for you? I can show you videos of past shows and if you want...check out our site on Monday and the show from tonight will be up there. Have a great weekend!

Dave -

Any plans to get Watt to do some CF work?

Posted by: manson at January 7, 2005 11:43 AM

Need some help finishing the 10 Questions?

I was just wondering if you had a chance to hear any of John Frusciante's solo albums that he released last year? There's like 6 of them lol. I know I've asked this before, but I'm just curious what you think of them if you have heard them.

Thanks :)

Posted by: Choppin Broccoli at January 7, 2005 11:46 AM

Hey dave. Hopefully I'll be getting your book todayy, finally! Cant wait to read it! But I have having a hell of a time, trying to find it. Rain? hmm Yes I know you love the rain. Well I mean at times its cool, but when I have to be in it for some reason, I hate it. I dont like being wet in my clothes. Anywayss.. have a wonderful rainy dayy!

Posted by: ..::Jess::.. at January 7, 2005 11:50 AM

Tex - what is thundersnow?

It's 34 and rain/snow mix here -- supposed to snow through Tuesday. I have my window open so I can hear the silence when the snow FINALLY starts! Karrie, is it snowing where you are yet (somewhere in the Northwest, right?)

I love rainy days in LA -- Dave, and all you LA people, enjoy yourselves and cozy up! Mortisha8--I grew up in North Hollywood and as a kid we would set out pie pans of water to see if they would freeze when it got cold. I never did see much ice, but I have collected hail!

Have a great weekend everyone, stay dry and warm! Enjoy your movies (looking forward to seeing Garden State...I now live in a small town and most movies never make it here, no screeners this year, either -- God bless the DVD!)

Posted by: algermom at January 7, 2005 11:54 AM

Whoa, Denise... thanks for answering my question. I didnt know someone said something until now. I just looked back at yesterday's posts. Thanks! thats actually a good idea, didnt think of that!

Posted by: ..::Jess::.. at January 7, 2005 11:56 AM

Jess: Any time. It's my pleasure. :)

Dave and co: It sounds like a lot of you are out on the west coast chillin' in the rain today. Enjoy the day, the movies, and whatever else you do.

It's actually relatively sunny here in NY, which is a refreshing change from the slush and muck we've had. I just want to wish everyone a great day, and may those killed in that Argentinian club rest in peace. (We're going to a club tonight with some friends... and this news actually makes me nervous. I'll keep my fingers crossed that all the the Gotti-boy wannabes don't have any pyrotechnics on them.)

Peace out,
-Denise

I'm going to see Banyan tonight and Saturday

I just wanted to share that

Posted by: uzumaki at January 7, 2005 12:17 PM

25th hour was a great movie...ed norton has got to be one of the best actors out there....he is pretty much amazing in everything that he does. Same with Penn, especially since Dead Man Walking.

The Frusciante solo discs were great, had them collectively at number 12 i think on our top 50 of 2004 list, but at a point it just became too much to really go through all of them. after hearing them, its easy to see how big of an effect he has on the RHCP sound. They really blend to whomever they have on guitar very well and continue to evolve.

listening to Weiland's solo disc right now...Barbarella is such a great track but the rest is kinda disappointing...good but not all there...any one else heard it...its a couple years old now

Posted by: EmpyreLounge at January 7, 2005 12:32 PM

definitly bumming today though as my comp crashed (motherboard i think) and i hadnt backed up anything since probably june...you would think running an Internet site would teach me to back things up more than I do

Posted by: EmpyreLounge at January 7, 2005 12:36 PM

Speaking of Banyan -- in the Feb issue of Guitar Player magazine (with Dimebag on the cover) one of the editors lists Live at Perkin's Palace as one of the CD's he's listening to this month...

Posted by: algermom at January 7, 2005 12:48 PM

...and with that, it just started to SNOW!

Posted by: algermom at January 7, 2005 12:50 PM

Penn's the best in anything...Fast times of Ridgemont my favorite and a new favorite is 21 Grams...anyone seen it? Irony's a funny thing

SF is real rainy today, looking forward to hearing the ocean when I get home!!!

Safe Travels to all!!!

Record Collection is proud to announce the US release of ASH’s new album Meltdown on March 8th 2005. The album’s release will coincide with a new Lucas Arts Star Wars videogame Republic Commando that features ASH’s single “Clones as the theme song. This marks the first time Lucas Arts has ever used a band’s song in anything Star Wars related. The US release will feature exclusive bonus tracks and DVD footage not available on the European full length version of Meltdown.

“We are very excited about Meltown, says Record Collection president Jordan Tappis, "Ash has proven themselves overseas and I am confident that they are poised for great success here in America. Record Collection proudly welcomes them to our roster."

Ash will tour the US in support of Meltdown this Spring.

P.S-i am turning a new leaf and now love ASH...ITS TRUE!

Angela - Gattaca is one of my all time favorite movies.

"I grew up in North Hollywood and as a kid we would set out pie pans of water to see if they would freeze when it got cold" - algermom

That's quite a difference from what we did as kids growing up in Chicago during the winter! We would make snow bricks by packing the snow in small or medium buckets and when it comes out you get a bucket-shaped brick for building a fort. We tried all sorts of things like pots and cookie cutters to make the snow into various things. We would collect icycles and put those up on the fort. The house I lived in had a long driveway. Whenever it was shoveled, all the snow would be piled up over 4ft high all along on one side and we'd make a long tunnel going all the way through to both ends of the driveway. Not to mention plopping right down into the snow on your back and making a snow angel. That was funnest when the snow was over a foot high. And the small snowballs that carefully rolled through the snow become big snowmen which within a few hours of completion become completely demolished...

yep, you gotta love winter.
anyone in the mood for some hot chocolate? :)

Love the rain!

Especially when your doing the horizontal Mambo (hehehe)and you could hear it in the backround.

Posted by: TheQueen at January 7, 2005 02:26 PM

emily - my posting name is a play on "algernon". I have always been bookish (Mortisha - check out Dutton's on Laurel - esp. on a rainy day!) and I had a cat named Alger - and, well, I am always the mom - even though my daughter is grown now. That's how I got the name, not a very romantic story, but mine all the same...

Mortisha-- I enjoyed your posting! Snow is great! It is not sticking here (yet), but I feel a snow bunny coming on tomorrow! Maybe, if I'm lucky, I can make some snow bricks! I'm gonna try it! I am off to the kitchen to fix a hot chocolate in your honor!

Love,

algermom (not minding winter too much, now...)

Hello Everyone -
"1. Jane's Addiction tribute band for a while now here in LA..." - Niiiiccceee...... 'bout time...

I love the rain too. Rainy Days are my favorite... I have a window in my office and it's been cracked open and I've been listening to Bjork's "Gloomy Sunday" like 5 times today and Counting Crows hidden track on the unplugged disc a couple times too. Something about the saxaphone and the rain......
mmmmm.....

question for anyone...I'm lookin to get a better website goin on for myself and I don't know a place to sign up for one with really easy site-building tools. Anyone have any advice? I need to post a lot of photos and links to articles and stuff... It's just a place to showcase some of my stuff. Any advice would be much appreciated.. below is a link of a trial one that i've been workin with...anyone ever use it? Homestead? Some cool photos of cool bands on it (including a cool dave one)if ya like concert shots... enjoy. Thanks to anyone who can offer any aid...
Much peace and love -

Hi all

Not posted in a long time due to a severe bout of depression, during which i felt i had nothing positive to say so said nothing, though have checked in every day and the 6767 spirit helped me get through it so thanks everyone.

Camilo. I am sorry for your loss. I wish I had something more profound, more comforting to say but my thoughts are truely with you.

On a happier note I'm glad the subject of Fiona Apple has cropped up. Dave i once asked if their was any chance of an Apple appearance on the CF album to which you said you'd ask...?

Peace out

Posted by: ylais at January 7, 2005 05:31 PM

Here's a part two for the Fiona question: Obviously she freaked a little over that incident, but did you ever get to speak with her and make "amends"?

Curiously,

Nicholas Cage is 41 today! One of his most overlooked, and a very funky film, is Red Rock West. Highly recommended.

And ylais? I'll wrestle naked with you in Welsh mud anyday!

This has been one of the worst days of my entire life.
But, I'm not missing any relatives to a fucking tsunami. There's always someone else worse off.

Dave, you're in tremendous shape and I know that you're self conscious about your diet to a degree. What does your daily workout regimen consist of and how many days a week (how often, how many hours, etc.) do you work out exactly? Do you weight train only or do you engage in cardiovascular exercises such as running (in order to keep the waistline so tight) as well? I find personally that running frequently before and/or after just about every workout is the only thing that keeps the midsection lean, tight and trim no matter how much work I do on the abdominal! And if so, smoking like you do does not affect your working out at all? I used to smoke myself, but I think I quit in enough time that I did not notice "that" much of a difference in cardiovascular health and the effect it would've or "did" have whilst working out like I did on a daily and routine basis. How many packs do you go through a day anyway? I commend you on the shape that you're in! You look great and keep up the great work! Take care!

Hey Dave
When you were in the Chili Peppers, how did you play the intro to Under the Bridge? With a pick or did you pluck the strings with your fingers?

I <3 him & his music almost as much as Dave! hehe And it seems like everyone is just waiting for him to fail, and fall back into the drugs. Hope he proves them wrong!

Dave-do you think or hope that there will be a good chance that The Panic Channel will be invited to play at some of the european summer music festivals this year, such as the Reading Festival,Glastonbury,V-Festival.

HEY DAVE, Imagine this...

Velvet Revolver
The Panic Channel
Doheny

You all tour together, and then do a 2 or 3 song "Camp Freddy Style" jam for all the fans at the end of the night.

What do you think?

"Come on baby, light my fire" Robby Krieger, guitarist for the Doors, is 59 today! Currently reviving things as The Doors of the 21st Century, Kriegers' licks for the Doors helped to propel them to one of the most influential bands of the 60s/70s. Ironically, their post-Morrison death manager, and long time friend of the band, Danny Sugarman, passed away this past Wednesday of cancer. Danny authored the book "No One Here Gets Out Alive", along with the book about GNR, "Appetite for Destruction". RIP, Danny.

"Nothing's gonna touch you in these Golden Years..."
David Bowie is 58 today! Thank God for angioplasty, as we all know we almost lost David last year. "Should we bitch about his pants and should we crush his sweet hands?" No, let's just say this man is probably THE most influential artist in the past 35 years. A true innovator, constantly reinventing himself, he's gone through more Changes than Joan Rivers face. We love you David, and hope to see you back performing real soon.

Yo Dave,
Just want to know...
Where can I find that kick ass leather jacket you wore in a couple of episodes of Till Death Do Us Part?
I've never seen anything like it.

Peace,

LYN!!! Thanks for the birthday heads up!! Here, by no one's demand, is jezzi's joke du jour....

The Poodle and the Leopard

A wealthy old lady decided to go on a photo safari in Africa. She took
her faithful pet poodle along for company. One day, the poodle starts
chasing butterflies and before long the poodle discovers that he is lost.

So, wandering about, he notices a leopard heading rapidly in his
direction with the obvious intention of having lunch.

The poodle thinks, "OK, I'm in deep trouble now! Then he noticed some
bones on the ground close by, and immediately settles down to chew on
the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the leopard is
about to leap, the poodle exclaims loudly, "Boy, that was one delicious
leopard. I wonder if there are any more around here."

Hearing this, the leopard halts his attach in mid-stride, as a look of
terror comes over him, and slinks away into the trees. "Whew," says the
leopard. "That was close. That poodle nearly had me."

Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a
nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it
for protection from the leopard. So, off he goes.

But the poodle saw him heading after the leopard with great speed,
and figured that something must be up. The monkey soon catches up
with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with
the leopard. The leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says,
"Here, monkey, hop on my back and see what's going to happen
to that conniving canine."

Now the poodle sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back,
and thinks, "What am I going to do now?"

But instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers,
pretending he hasn't seen them yet...and just when they get close
enough to hear, the poodle says...

"Where's that damn monkey? I sent him off half an hour ago
to bring me another leopard!"

SOMETIMES BULLSHIT AND BRILLIANCE IS THE ONLY WAY!
