CFR Saturday

07dannysugarman

Tonight is an all new CFR. I think Billy Duffy from The Cult will be dropping in for a chat. We will play some tunes, go to the phones, recap the CF show on the 5th and all the rest. By the way, House of the Flying Daggers is amazing. Check it out if you get a chance. It's kind of a Crouching Tiger vibe with the effects, but the story is also amazing. I loved it. My prayers are with writer and ex assistant to The Doors, Danny Sugarman, who died on Wednesday, January 5th of lung cancer. He was 50. We will miss you.

Hey Dave, have you ever tried Absinthe?

Posted by: Biblical at January 8, 2005 12:34 PM

Dave! I finally got your book. Cant wait to read it! I'm trying to start, but people keep interupting me. Anyways after I read some of your book, I'm gonna go through a tape with Carmen and You on it. So I hope all is well... have a nice dayy!

Yes, I read about Danny Sugarman on the Net. I read his book, 'Wonderland Avenue' a few years ago.

Danny actually devoted most of his life to The Doors, he was fan at a young age, then wound up working for them.

I didn't know much about Danny's personal life, except his devotion to The Doors. I was shocked to hear that he was married to Fawn Hall, of all people!

R.I.P.

Can someone enlighten me on the subjects of the chat and CFR? Times, etc? I'm on the east coast so take pity on me, LA folks.

Posted by: Jenniffer at January 8, 2005 12:42 PM

Sandy - Thanks so much!

Jess - I forgot to mention that I just happened to check out Heidi's awesome Carmen fansite, www.speakcarmenese.com, the other day, and there were a couple of articles about her beauty routine. (There are some nice pics of D&C as well, and some stills from TDDUP.) Check it out!

Dave, I know you and Manson are friends and all, but do you try to stay away from him due to his coke habits and such?

Biblical - Absinthe is what I named my cat *L* but never tried it.

Hi everyone, having one of those days where nothing but mushy female music will do: Don't slap me, but this is what I'm listening to today (Dave, you'll just have to forgive the temporary lapse of reasoning)..

Angel from Montgomery - Bonnie Raitt
When You Say Nothing at All-Allison Krauss (orig. Keith Whitley)
A New Day Has Come (you should really slap me for this)-Celine
At Last - Etta James
Midnight Train to Georgia - GKnight and Pips
Dog and Butterfly - Heart
Amie - Pure Prairie League (hey, it's my name)
By Your Side - Sade (in tribute Dave and Carmen :)....
Strong Enough - Sheryl Crow

and more I"m terrified of admitting to.

Dave, ever get in one of those moods? *LOL* I'd definitely not expect you to say yes to any of the above (with the exception of By Your Side)

Posted by: Aimee at January 8, 2005 01:04 PM

so Dave does hearing that Danny Sugarman died of lung cancer at the young age of 50 inspire you to stop smoking the camels, you obviously are strong enough seeing all that you've been through why let the "man" hold you down! behind every cigarette is an old white man in a suit getting rich.

Can't join in for CFR tonight...work =( But hope everyone has a great time!!!!!

What is it about cigs, man. is it becuase theyre so benign, i guess?

Posted by: Wakesta at January 8, 2005 01:33 PM

How is everyone today, all good i hope.

Dave-do you think or hope that there will be a good chance that The Panic Channel will be invited to play at some of the european summer music festivals this year, such as the Reading Festival,Glastonbury,V-Festival.

A real shame about Danny Sugarman,only 50.

Good day to all. Still wonderin what IPs are and why the dude (Castro) who called us all fags, claimed he had tons of IPs and could never be stopped from posting? I was supposed to attend a work party tonight, (had a great date set up too!) but it was cancelled due to the freezing rain here in CT. I guess Ill be indoors watching movies tonight too! If you like comedy make sure you've seen The Big Lebowski, and American Movie. American Movie won the Sundance Film Festival (Robert Redfords independent film festival), tough to find but a must see. Any studio musicians in CT area here who wanna do some work. Have some access to work in New Haven. Original and creative material a must. Im working on a project called Epic Poor Portion. Demo is completed, if anyone wants to critique Id be glad to mail out copys to anyone interested. I was wondering if I put a piece of mail in a public mail box, and put the address of where I want it to go as the return address and dont put a postage stamp on, will it be returned to to that address? Free mail for life!

Reeses peaces

Boot man ******

PS- any detail on the chat room tonight-accessing and who the guests are? Much love

Aimee- You gotta try the stuff, its amazing, it doesnt make you see stuff like people say but its gives you an amazing enlightened feeling. If you like aniseed and ouzo you'll love it.

www.lafeeabsinthe.com
ww.seborabsinth.com

those are by far the best absinthes available if you ever think of trying it.

Sugarman had been sick for several years. Densmore said, 'Cigarettes took him out.'

Posted by: c at January 8, 2005 02:21 PM

Hi boots,

An IP is your own internet 'address' per computer.

Administrators can actually figure out where people are posting from by determining your IP address.

IF Fidel claimed to have many IPs addresses, that possibly means he has access to many computers at both his home & at work. Though probably not as many as he boasts about! lol

Here's an IP explanation:

An IP address is a number composed of four parts (called octets) that is used to identify your computer on the internet. (The format is 1.1.1.1 -- four octets comprise one address.)

There are two types of IP addresses that a computer can have -- static and dynamic.

Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) determines which type you have, but in general, residential accounts have dynamic IP addresses and business accounts have static IP addresses.

If you have a static IP address, your IP address does not change and is used as a consistent identifier for your computer by other computers on the Internet.

If you have a dynamic IP address, then when your computer connects to the Internet, you will get a randomly assigned IP address from a pool of IP addresses available from your ISP, and the IP address assigned to you will be different every time you connect.

IP addresses are important in email delivery. When you send a piece of email, the headers of that mail will contain your IP address.

Hope that helped!

Thanks for your explanation-I think I get it now, hes saying "good like tracking me-I got multiple locations, so I can be a dick!"
Is absinthe also known as wormwood from a root that makes you hallucinate. I had a friend years ago who talked of that stuff, I think but it had another name I thought was worm wood or something along that line.

Booters

Posted by: boots at January 8, 2005 03:06 PM

Hey all,

I've always wanted to try absinthe, to see what the fuss is all about. It's definitely on my life "to do" list. I'll probably have to travel to Europe to make that happen, but that's on the "to do" list as well.

I've had the fake stuff, Absente, which is nothing like the real thing, I'm sure. But I'll say that it looked great (cool flourescent green color), tasted disgusting (only because I hate licorice), and packed an AWESOME buzz.

I HAVE had that "enlighened" feeling already, fortunately. Let's just say that there are many different ways to get it!

Re: The cigarette thing, and early death... I think about stuff like that a lot. I'm sure Dave does too. Some may say it's tragic that Danny Sugarman died so early. Others might say that he did a LOT of living in those 50 years... probably more than most of us will do if we live to 100!

I guess it's all in how you look at it.

I agree that smoking is a big, evil business, just like almost everything else is. And, having been a light smoker for several years, I know that it's kinda fun, but certainly NOT worth dying over.

The fact is that nobody knows what the future holds for any of us. As some say, "I could get hit by a bus tomorrow." I say, live for the moment, and do everything in moderation. (Including, sometimes, moderation itself.)

With that said, I hope everyone has a safe and fun evening. Maybe I'll catch you later.

-Denise

Posted by: Denise at January 8, 2005 03:14 PM

Oops... make that "enlightened"... but you knew that. :)

Posted by: Denise at January 8, 2005 03:16 PM

One last thing:

Aimee - I know how you feel about listening to certian kinds of music when you're in certain moods. I don't know every song on your list, but the ones I do know are GREAT songs and nothing to be embarrased about! :)

RIP Danny Sugarman, Dave is there a chance you'll be touring in Canada ( preferably British Columbia ) in the future ?

Posted by: pistol pete at January 8, 2005 05:05 PM

Yeah Absinthe uses Wormwood but there is a limit in the amount per litre you can have by the EU, its about 10mg however the stuff Van Gohn and Picasso drank was more like 60mg (thats why Van Gogh chopped his ear off) though there are Absinthes that are that high in Wormwood but you can only get those in the Czech Republic.

Posted by: Biblical at January 8, 2005 05:19 PM

AIMEEE whatcha gonna do....I think I could stay with you ...for a moment maybe longer, longer if I dooo, I keep fallin in and out of love with you...

I LOVE that song, can you tell, and I am a HUGE AKUS fan!! Beneath my hard rock exterior, lies a chick that loves the lyrics!!

Just got back from spending day with my boy, we took our first batch of coins in for UNICEF....519.31 in mostly pennies and nickels...CRAZY...BEAUTIFUL!!! I can't wait to tell my cherubs...all 728 of them, our fundraiser hasn't even been officially kicked off yet, this is just what a few classes brought in on their own...

Dave,
Have you ever played with the surviving Doors memebers?

Stay cool,
Matt

Thanks for the info, Biblical. Now I know that I'll have to visit the Czech Republic when I go to Europe. ;)

DAVE -

Aw man... The one time I was able to finally stay home and listen to CFR, I called and got through, but was not chosen. I guess I'll have to give the screener a more elaborate story next time. Like, "I can make Dave climax over the phone" or something like that. LOL

Mind you, CFR in EST occurs between 9 and 11, during prime "going out" hours. Too bad it's not on at another time. Or more frequently!

Oh well. Better luck next time...

Love,
-Denise

Dave! Thank you for the wonderful news that Carmen and the Bombshells will be part of the Camp Freddy show on the 27th...

ok, so I was listening to Carmen talk about weird places she was autographing tonight, I am sure you have your tales to tell, what is the strangest, or funniest autograph request you have received?

also, something has been bothering me for quite some time, ever since I saw you kiss Dennis on CPS...How do you reach the point of maturity where you can not only move on from past relationships, but become friends with each other's exes? Is it exclusive to the 'business', or is it a testament to the both of you being emotionally healthy?

Darlin' Dave-
It's 10 pm, just got home from working... have a 4:15 am call time tomorrow... missed CFR... it's pouring, (which I love, when I don't have to be out working in it!).
I'm not in a sour mood, but just wondering... can't remember if you've ever answered this... MAC or PC?

RE: Absinthe.

Because of Van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, etc I've always wanted to try it. Now that I'm old, boring and don't drink who knows if i ever will. (It just takes too much effort to cope with hangovers...lol)

Trivia: In Revelations one ofthe signs of the apocalypse is this "And the rivers shall turn to wormwood"

In Ukarainian (I know the spellings wrong, sorry) the word for wormwood?

Chernobyl.

No lie.

Hi All,

I am shocked by the death of Danny Sugarman, he was a really nice guy I met him in Manchester (Uk) when he did a tv interview with Tony Wilson for ITV a good few years ago now.
It was a strange night, we didn't realise what we were going to, as we had got free tickets to a book reading or so we thought and it turned out that we were going to be the audience for the interview. I was really thrilled at the end when I got to meet Danny and I have to say that after reading his book I was totally amazed by how well he looked at the time.
Well I guess he's gone to hang out with Jim now, catch up with his bud.
RIP Danny.

I want a Whole Lotta Love!
My God, Jimmy Page is 61 today! 'Scuse me a sec while I trip down memory lane. I was lucky enough to see Led Zeppelin in '77. I was 14. When tics went on sale at the local Rich's they handed out theater ticket stubs to get your concert tickets inside. They ran out on number 120, I had number 118. Long before Ticketbastard, it was the last time concert tickets were sold in a department store. Big mistake. The crowd burned all the mattreses in the store with cigs and scratched most of the furniture. I went by myself to the show and I've never seen anything like it since. The band came on at 8 sharp, no warm up band, and played for 2 hours. Plant then says, "We're gonna take a tea and crumpet break, and we'll be back shortly." 25 minutes later, the house lights go back down, and they played for another hour and half. In one of the most surreal moments in my life, it was really storming outside, and the roof started to leak. Not everywhere, but specifically on Plant. During the "Rain Song". No shit. Plant joked "You're not gonna believe this, but for the first time in our history, we've made it rain indoors". I had my room covered, all 4 walls and ceiling too, with Zep pictures from Hit Parader magazine and posters. The local theater started showing "The Song Remains the Same" as the midnight movie on Saturdays. I had a Bonham derby and sat front row, center, for like 2 years. Tickets were going on sale on a Saturday for the concert in '80. Bonham died the Thursday before and I STILL can't quite believe it. Please treat yourself to musical porn and buy How The West Was Won. The White Summer medley is completely sick. Page is, well, Page. Zeppelin was greater than the sum of its' parts. They were simply the best Rock band of all time. Page created some of the most delicate and gloriously beautiful sounds, emotions that can move you to tears, and also created sounds of extreme spine-shattering raw power and thunder, emotions that make you feel as if you could knock down a brick wall by hand-and every sound and emotion in between. Thank you Mr. Page for the memories, for your insane volume of work, and for being the best Rock and Roll guitarist in history. Keep up the great work!

Lyn,that was a great story,Led Zep more than earned they're place in music history.
I was too young to have heard of them when they were touring so i never got to see them live, but they are one of my favourite bands, truly great.

CAN'T WAIT to get the album now.

Thanks again you beauty!

Jezzi - I had a boyfriend in college who used to serenade me with that. I would swooooooon *LOL* "Fallin in and out of love wth you. Dont know what I'm gonna dooooo." And I let him get away! (the things we know with hindsight)

Denise - it was just one of those days. I needed some sappy songs *LOL* Look up the ones you don't know and let me know what you think?

Biblical - I've never tried it mostly because I've heard it's extremely expensive and it sounded kind of extravagant for my pocketbook. Who knows, maybe one day. I just love the name. Absinthe. If I didn't think I'd get picked up by Child Protective Services, I think I'd name my next child that!

Peace and love everyone.
