The Sunday 10
Thanx to Skot for the Camp Freddy clips in the Camp Freddy Radio Clips section...
1. What were your reasons\motivation for starting up 6767.com again?
Several reasons. I just missed it, we are starting a new band and we are trying to really go from the ground up, to let people really know what's going on and to be able to interject when the news is incorrect, to have some control over misinformation and because it is fun.
2. If you were sitting on Santa's lap, what would you ask him for?
Uh, to let me get down...
3. Dave, what would you like in your stocking this year?
A carb free, fat free and calorie free pizza.
4. Dave, have you ever called in and used one of those escort services?
Well, yes. Years ago. I don't recommend it.
5. While recording TPC stuff, how is the songwriting process going? I know that Night1 is Steve's baby, but during these sessions, do you suggest lyrics or does Chaney suggest riffs? Lyrics or music first? Just looking for a general description as to the input.
Well, we all write music, N1 verse and chorus were my musical input, bridge and break was Steve I and lyrics are always Steve I. But each song comes along differently. Some Steve wrote, others are collaborative and some just happen. There is no "one" way to go...
6. Dave, I saw a pic of you and younger brother on motorcycle..do you still ride, and if you do, has Carmen ever taken a ride with you?
I have not ridden in a while. Carmen isn't a fan of me on the streets with four wheels, let alone two. I guess I have a "unique" way of driving. Does "unique" mean bad? Depends on who you ask.
7. Were there record suits at the TPC show at the Key Club and if so, has anything materialized into a signing/deal as of yet, or, are there discussions on the table? Have your guys at Capitol displayed interest in TPC?
No, nothing to speak of yet. We aren't really looking because I have a Capitol fulfillment to honor, not to mention that I just like it there. If Capitol doesn't want us, then we are going to go home grown style and just print stuff up ourselves.
8. Also, currently what is inspiring you to become a better musician ?
Continually taking advantage of playing with as many different walks of musical life as possible. As broad of a spectrum as I can cover, from Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols to Usher and everything in-between. The blending of talents can only make one's interpretation expand.
9. Why is it okay to get "all jacked up" on coffee but not other stimulants (meth, riddlin, etc.) They all have a similar effect, so why is one okay and another not okay?
Well, I guess I just know that I am not in danger of overdosing on coffee and meeting the reaper...
10. Who picked the song "by your side", and did they really play Mazzy Star 'Fade into You" while you guys were saying your vows.
Carmen did. I don't recall the Mazzy Song, but I do love it.

"I guess I have a "unique" way of driving. Does "unique" mean bad? Depends on who you ask."
That just means that you're a true Los Angeles driver! :)

Hey Dave and everyone else!
First off, I need to thank you for the book.. As I have written before, it took me a long time to get my hands on it here in the UK. Borders has finally got it in stock now though. I read it cover to cover and I loved it.
My question tonight is, what are your feelings about new years eve and do you have any plans? Some people hate celebrating it, some love it. Some feel the magic of a new start and whatnot while others think it's just silly. Me, I just feel that it's a great night to make promises to yourself and detox your life for the year to follow. Also, I celebrate it with close friends, since I usually celebrate Xmas with my family. One thing I've learned from years of New years eves is that it NEVER turns out exactly the way you plan it, so I try not to have high expectations on fabulous parties and such...
Well, time to sleep soon since I am in the UK! God I miss Sweden! Oh, one more question! Dave, have you ever experienced snow? I mean real, up to one meter thick snow on the ground? If not, you should visit Sweden in the wintertime sometime :)
Take care everyone!

Elise and "Princess" Abby!!---Happy Birthday buddies!!! Abby, major props to you for fighting the good fight working holiday retail..I actually MISS wearing my musical antlers while asking 'paper or plastic', lol
Pete!!!!!! Told you!!!!!
Dave...I guessed as much, so here is what I am thinking while watching In Style celebrity weddings, while listening to Sade on the radio...Who picked the song "by your side", and did they really play Mazzy Star 'Fade into You" while you guys were saying your vows. I never saw Till Death Do Us Part (don't hate me),but I have seen a lot of clips, and just wanted to know about the Mazzy song in particular, one of my ultimate favs!!
jezebel(you guys give me hope that there is someone out there willing to put up with me)

Dave I have to ask you...
What is it like being up there in front of people who only want to watch you play your instrument? What is it like being able to do exactly what you want for a living and succeeding so admirably at it?
I'm young and I write poetry. Basically I dont think I have ever felt as stimulated as when i got my first email response to one of my poems. It must be such a tranquil and surreal experience to do what you love and have so many respect you for it.

Note to self: Next time Dave is in NYC, bring him fat/carb/calorie free pizza... Hey, wait a minute... that kind of pizza doesn't even exist! Do they? Well, how about a regular slice on a Sunday, since it's anything goes than? Would that work? I'll be sure to put it in a stocking. ;)
Peace,
- Sean

Missjey - No kidding about it not turning out the way you planned!
I was dating a guy for half a year, and when New Years swung around, I had something special planned and what not.
He ended up coming out. I got owned. That's cool though! I was kind of wondering why we only held hands for 6 months...

Hello Dave and everyone!
It's sleepless in Helsinki here! To what missjey wrote, I believe that first snow had just fallen down in Stockholm the day Jane's Addiction played there in 2003, if I remember correctly. There wasn't too much of it, though. Perry said "You know we've never seen it snow before" onstage but I thought it was just a show rhetoric.
Jezzi - was it Sade's Jezebel you we're listening to? Damn, I'd like to listen to Sade right know but the CD's in my car and I just took it in for service. I'm so misfortunate! j/k
Dave, where and when were you abroad the last time? How about the next destination and what's the event?
Happy B-day to Abby & Elise!

Hey Dave, great to see another post :) How did your family Christmas photo turn out? Will we still get to see it? Motorcycles are so cool, but equally dangerous. I'm like Carmen in that respect, & wouldn't be too crazy about my man getting on one. If he got one, it would be permanently parked in the house. Take care!
Posted by: AeroGem at December 12, 2004 07:44 PM
Dave,
Carmen bought you that sweet GNX, and she isn't a fan of you driving around? Those cars are so money. Hope you get to drive it often. :)

Dave,
I haven't been able to post in over a month, so this may seem a bit late. I just wanted to say that you guys were amazing at the Key Club show last week; I had the greatest time. I have been going through some hard times over the last month and a half, and it was a great get away. Hope to see you guys play again soon.

Dave, I lost my dog this year to some sort of illness that is still a mystery. Besides the details, I'm wondering if you or anybody knows a pet psychic in the Los Angeles area. She was too young(almost 4yrs.), and I'm not at peace about it. She was the best dog and it just should have not happened. Thanks for any help.

what guitar pedals/effects did you use for Ritual de lo Habitual? I love the effect for the first guitar lead at the beginning of Stop. Every Jane's song gives me a strong sense of euphoria and im so glad that you are here with us today sharing your talent with the world...keep on keepin on.

Hello Dave and Family!!!
Thanx for the post Dave! I must say I was pretty surprised about you joining up with Usher at the Awards. I also was irritated that they didn't show more of you :) What made you decide to do that?
Not much going on up here in Seattle.... Cold as hell though.
Hope all is well in everyones little part of the world!

Hi Skot,
I noticed you said you were from BC. ME TOO! OW! BC in the HOUSE! lol :) Right now I'm in Surrey but hoping to move to Vancouver soon.
So Dave, i was wondering if you ran into John Frusciante during your show with the Tints and had a chance to talk with him? I was reading and apparently he was dancing his heart out during their set. Man I love him. Also, have you had a chance to check out any of his 6 solo albums from this year?

So since Carmen dosn't smoke what rules did she lay out for your smoking after you two moved in together? Are you alloud to smoke in the house or car? How about in the house or car with her there? I ask only because I have just been forbiden to smoke in the apartment and car!

Good morning Family!!! Hey Cori, hope you are feeling better!!
ok, not to take away from the 'craziest place you have had sex' question...but, in light of the drama that is ensuing in my classroom over what kind of craft to make the parents...I invite Dave and family members to take a walk down memory lane....Can you remember any craft that you made for your parents for Christmas? or...if you are a parent..what was the best craft you received from your child...I still have a coffee can Santa my brother made for my mom 35 years ago..and my son made me a Nativity set out of toilet paper rolls, one of my urchins brought me a reindeer pin made from a christmas light...I am dressing my cherubs in Santa hats and reindeer antlers to take pictures today..haven't figured out what to do with them after that...popsicle stick frame perhaps...?

Hey, Dave, I must ask this.
This song... walkabout, was inspired in Brazil?? The guitar sounds like MPB rythym and have some instruments like cuicas.
Posted by: Gustavo Rodrigues at December 13, 2004 08:34 AM
dave - thanks for answering that question about "night 1." i was wondering how much was steve i's song and how much tpc.
jez - i did see your post on steve i's site. thanks.
i don't think i deserve any prize (though joining camp freddy on stage for a song could be cool.. hell, even meeting dave would be a great prize!)

Hi Dave and family!
A quick post, as I have to go get ready for an interview...
Re: jezzi's question about arts and crafts, there are 2 things I distinctly remember making as a youngster. One was a "jewelry box" made out of a cigar box covered with dry noodles and spray-painted gold. Anyone remember those lovely things? LOL.
The other thing we did was take coffee cans, and decorate them with construction paper, paint, noodles (again), sequins, whatever. This lovely creation could then be used to hold money, odds & ends... or it could be used as a percussion instrument. The possibilities were endless! :)
Cheers,
-Denise

Unique driving... unique driving is good. I can tell that when I learn to drive, I'll be, uhm... unique. as you put it. apparently, you don't indicate when you switch lanes on the mot-um, highway? wow, we are going to be roadkill when we go to LA next year...
oh, and I remember what I wanted to ask you, I remembered at about 3am *laughs* a while ago I wasx watching Top of the Pops 2 on BBC2 (before TOTP went crap), and they had Lou Reed performing "Perfect Day". Naturally I watched it because I like Lou Reed... there were some strange tai c'hi style dancers on the stage, and then I saw the guitarist, and the guitarist looked very familiar... was it you by any chance? The lights were very dark in the studio so everyone on the little stage apart from Lou and the dancer were sort of blue-lighted, but I could have sworn the guitarist was you...
with love,
Soph xx

Dave
Recently bought a copy of Trust No One - I really enjoyed the album. Based on what I hear on the album I wondered if you ever listen to any of the following and consider them influences - Fred Frith, Henry Kaiser, Adrian Belew, Richard Thompson, and Ala Farke Toure.
