Non-Digital

Shopping... Ugh... I really do not like the shopping. Today Carmen and I commence the shopping. At least we can go together, but man, I am so not into it. I don't mean just for Christmas, I don't even like it when I need a pair of socks, like, when I know exactly what I am going to purchase and it isn't Christmas. I go through this every year and it's always fine, but still... yuk. Parking. "Right there! Is that guy leaving?" "No, he just pulled in." "Damn." "Circle around again." "Let's try one more level up." Department stores. Ever notice that when you are in a department store and you need to use the bathroom, it's always like 7 miles from where you are? "Where is the bathroom?" "Oh, take the escalator to the 4th floor, make a right, past the appliances, all the way at the rear you should see the men's shoe department, it's right there you can't miss it." Why does the phrase, "all the way" have to always accompany this question? Plus, if you are shopping with someone, they never have to go when you do. 9 out of 10 times, my wife will have to go when I return. That is, after I have finally found her again because she just goes on auto pilot in those places. Don't get me wrong, I love the holidays. I suppose in order to enjoy it, one must go through a series of nightmarish events in order to be rewarded with joy and peace and family smiles. My wife loves it though. The shopping I mean. I guess one of her secret gifts this year is me going with her without complaining even once. If she has fun, why should I ruin it? I'd much rather whine to you guys and walk the departments in blissful harmony with the one I married. Merry Christmas, Carmen, you won't hear a "peep" out of me today!

ONLINE SHOPPING RULES DUDE!
However, being married, I know how to play the game too. The chaufer, the baggage handler, the second-opinion guy, all rolled into one!

My advice is to hit the Coffee Bean very first thing and at least get some caffeine for the long haul.

Rock on!

Love the new Guitar...Suggested retail price?

Posted by: Steve at December 21, 2004 11:32 AM

What a guy, Carmen is one lucky lady!

Hang in there Dave....maybe just let your imagination conjur up a pornographic fantasy about each of the interesting looking peeps you pass in the mall!

Oh..and a tip on parking at this time of year...just go to the farthest corner of the lot and park...then commend yourself for walking the extra distance and getting some nice exercise into your day!

Have fun!

Aye Papi you sound like Angel!!!! But we love when u go with us, who's gonna hold all the shit we buy baby???
hehe Have fun

I know your pain! I work for Nordstron's and HATE malls with a passion. I don't know why I chose to work in my own personal hell 40 hrs a week. Oh no I know why retail if fairly mindless work and you make GOOD money if you get in with the right company. Wish we had cool people come into our mall down in Escondido.

Posted by: Rain at December 21, 2004 11:33 AM

Nice rant, dude! We all know what it's like. And then there's the trip to get to wherever you're shopping, which can eat up more time than actually going and shopping. Enjoy, it's all good!

2nd - The childish glee of the posting competition is amusing.

Posted by: Tito at December 21, 2004 11:34 AM

HA! In the time it took me to write my last post, in which there were no posts, and then there was only Steve L as the first and only post, I got shafted. Ha! Funny. Later peoples.

Ah Dave, that's sweet. Wishing you blissful harmony in the mist of chaos. Just try to stay away from the women’s shoe section, unless you want to be severely injured which come to think of it you might enjoy some of it. Oh and be wary of the perfume spray ladies, you won’t be able to smell a thing for weeks. Other than that have fun kid. Who knows it might be your lucky day and you’ll find that perfect parking spot.

Posted by: wendybird at December 21, 2004 11:38 AM

Dave - we'll expect a full report tomorrow on your shopping trip ;-)

Shopping is a pain no matter what. I figure that if you're a celebrity, you have the $$$ to make shopping fun, but never the anonymity (hrmmm.. does Dave buy boxers or briefs...tighty whities or thongs...) and if you're just a regular person, you have the anonymity but not the $$$.

Lol,it is a case of grin and bare it,the shops get really packed this time of year,ya get those people who act like farts in a trance and just drift right in front of something your looking at,or when your walking they cut right across in front of you.
We did our shopping on saturday,i had to fight my way out of the shopping center after 10 minutes cause i was desperate for a cigarette,oh the stress of it.

Jeez, one xmas i went shopping in London's west end, there was a human traffic jam, people coming one way, people coming another way, people coming out of the tube station,it grid locked and i was stuck in the middle, the police had to sort it out,it was THAT bad.
There was me trying not to burn anyones jacket with my cigarette.

Lol....I thought todays comments were hilarious!!
I love the image of a man being dragged around from store to store (being married, I see that quite often).
Being a woman, I always seem to come across items of clothing at Christmas that I would enjoy for myself....so off to the changing room to try them on...all the while the husband paces with a glum look on his face!!

Oh well, the compromising of a relationship.

Haha aww Dave awesome entry! and I'd go with Carmen! As soon as I'm in a store, I'm here there and everywhere, and wanna buy every cute thing I see. And I'm sure my boyfriend would go with you... when I wanna go to like shoes or something he just rolls his eyes and follows. I think its cute that the girls are like all happy and excited to be in STORES and the guys are like "yeah i wanna get out of here, but for the love of her, I'll just follow" Cute Cute. I need to do my last Christmas shopping Thursday... and I'm going with my boyfriend and I'm taking my younger brother so I take him out to get my mom a purse... from him. Of course I pay for this stuff... oh well. Do you get a bunch of people follow you or come up to you when you're just trying to shop in peace? Have a nice dayy!

Dave, that is honestly really cute. And I'm not one for gushing to you about, well, you. But you really love that girl, man... and that's heartwarming. But for your benefit next year, try introducing her to online shopping. Yes, it's the wave of the future. You just park... your ass on the chair, reach for your credit card, and voila! Things arrive on your doorstep within days. Amazing. Gawd, I hate malls...

I just wanted to let you all know that I want to marry Asian pears. Yummy.

I hate Christmas shopping!

I hate when i'm walking through the mall and I walk right through i fart cloud. The bad thing is that I can't even point out who did it cause the damn mall is so crowded. Another thing i hate is when it takes about 30 minutes just to find parking!

Posted by: TheQueen at December 21, 2004 12:21 PM

Dave, quick question, what's your ab workout like?

Posted by: Jason Cook at December 21, 2004 12:31 PM

"But girls love to shop. Its a fact"

I must respectfully disagree Sweetie! This is one girl who shops as much as possible online and what I do have to out and get, I usually get at specialty shops...I loathe shopping malls!

It helps that I begin my Christmas shopping on Veterans Day...with the goal of being mostly done (except for odds and ends) by Thanksgiving. Then I can just enjoy a stress-free December filled with decorating, wrapping and mailing many Christmas cards.

Hey dave, what PRS models do you own? I've been saving up and I loved playing a custom 24, but I'm not absolutely sure if I should get it.

Posted by: Jon at December 21, 2004 12:33 PM

That's awfully nice of you to not make Carmen's day hell by whining to her for hours on end when she's already stressed out...I think I should've hooked my man up with a message board to complain to BEFORE we did our shopping together a few weeks ago...
So, I never got a response to my inquiry about music on ads, etc. So! I've gone hunting on my own to find out what other celebs/musicians have to say about this topic. I've found a very enlightening article by Steve Albini {www.negativland.com/albini.html} that puts things into better perspective. Very interesting. Does this constitute as thread-hijacking? If so, pardon my continual breeches of etiquette. I'll chalk it up to ADD, doctor's note forthcoming :)

Regarding shopping for the wife, I say, "What do you buy for the woman that's already bought herself everything?"

Posted by: Schwing at December 21, 2004 12:44 PM

dave -
way to take the whole shopping fiasco like a champ. speaking of carmen's love for retail therapy, what's the deal with her thing on MTV where she picked a "look" for Ashanti for the VMA's? was that just a one time deal or is she going to do more shows with different celebs? that seems like the perfect gig for her! i miss seeing more of her on TV...i forced myself to watch "Manhunt" thinking she would get more air time. she fully needs her own show! AND she needs to come up with more dance/striptease workout DVDs....the first 5 were great, but you can only do them so many times before you need some new material ;)

Posted by: cristina at December 21, 2004 01:20 PM

haha that was the best post ever! You bet you can whine to us about anything, anytime.

I'm with Carmen on this one, I have no trouble shopping at all, I love it! If I looked like Carmen I'd probably like it more since she can actually fit into all the great clothes and look fantastic! I like to get all the holiday stuff done ahead of time. I've pretty much already bought everyone presents. My parents are the only ones left, they insist I wait until the after Christmas sales.
My sister and her boyfriend do not like shopping at all.. I have yet to meet a man who actually likes it.

Brett! Way to go! Sometimes you just have to take things into your own hands. Glad to hear your truck is coming along.

Ok gotta get back to work and ship a hard drive out FedEx! (working in an IT dept. of a law firm)

Posted by: Randal Flag at December 21, 2004 01:45 PM

You know, I was going to hold off on mentioning this. But I was at the 2nd Dragonfly show. I'm standing there next to Chazbo and we are both commenting on Steve's voice. I said, "Technically the guy is great." Chazbo replies," He doesn't have a signature voice with a lot of character though."

"True" I said. "He sort of sounds like someone though. I just can't place it."

Isaacs warbled out some more high notes.

"I got it. HOLY SHIT!!!! He sounds like the drummer from Triumph."

Chazbo laughs and we chant in unison, "Gil Moore!!!"

Not a bad thing. Not sure if it's a good thing either. I'll keep it under my lid. Heck kids, I'm not bagging on Stevie. He's likeable. I enjoy his contribution.

But, ah...Gil Moore!!!!!!!!

So, Dave my question.... will there ever be a live cover of Allied Forces or Rock N Roll Machine to look forward too?? Sorry man, I had to ask.

Have a laugh you punters and for the love of God wipe that drool off your chins huh???

Dave - we are your therapists. I know you will think it is worth is when Carm smiles at you and says "Thank You" for being so considerate. It will mean alot to her - you'll see.

Tish and Soph - too right. *Men* just don't get the whole shopping thing. Let's just say it's a journey, not a destination. When you go and get only one thing, and pay FULL RETAIL like men always do, it's like going to the back page of the book and reading it first. Just so, so wrong. I have to admit I dig the shopping thing, but I avoid the malls at all costs.

Brett! Shout out & glad to have you back, skinned knuckles and all. Luv ya dumpling.

If Steve sounds like anyone, I'd say his voice resembles Chris Shinn from Unified Theory. Though Steve has got his own thing going on fo sho, I thought that the first time I heard him. Chris Shinn is awesome as well. (and (Shinn) does, in fact, sound a bit like the guy from Triumph, tho I hate to admit that.._)
In a nutshell, Steve Isaacs F*ckin Rocks!!!
He blew my mind at the TPC shows, and a vocalist hasn't dropped my jaw like that in years...

Dave, what if Carmen reads this? Does that count as making a peep? Also, my boyfriend gave me a $7 gift certificate for an online body jewelry store. After shipping that leaves me with $1 worth of merchandise. Granted I hate shopping as well, but this is just too much...or not enough :) hehe

Posted by: AeroGem at December 21, 2004 02:35 PM

Shopping is the worst thing to do this time of year. Half the parking lot at the best mall here is ripped up, so I had to park across the street at a Canadian Tire so I would get everything done faster. Beats the hell out of cruising the lots at a speed of 10 just waiting for someone to leave.

Anyway, it's a bit early, but everyone's going to do the family thing coming up, so I'll ask. Dave and everyone, what's your new years resolution(s)?

Posted by: Jen at December 21, 2004 03:04 PM

"Dave and everyone, what's your new years resolution(s)?"

It's gonna be a tough year for me..
It's the year of change...
ya ever feel change in the air and know its for real this time? ..a page is turning...
ie: My dog that I've had for 14 years passed away a couple months ago (I'm still heartbroken), my wife just got a new job, we got a new dog, and I'll be reluctantly moving to NY area (from LA) in about 8 months... so... this is the year to make changes stick... it's already beginning.
So..on the 1st I am:
1. quitting smoking (everything) cold turkey. I've got a helluva smoking problem..both cigs and herb..
2. Doing a complete overhaul on my eating and workout routines
and..
3. starting and finishing my 1st novel by my self-set deadline of 4/30.
I've got my work cut out for me this year...But I;ve never been so ready...and focused... it's gonna be good..
Good luck to everyone else at your personal goals for the new year....
Much peace and love -
Scott

Hey dave, I don't suppose you've seen either of the films 'City of God' or 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'. I'm a film student in the UK (not that I'm bragging) and I've gota say they are two of the best films I've seen this year.

Posted by: Peter at December 21, 2004 03:20 PM

Soph - go for Joy Division's box set. If you really want all the best stuff from The Cure, get Standing on a Beach, The Singles and call it a day.

Jen - I just quit smoking, too. 2 months and 6 days ago. Whew. So fucking hard sometimes! Qutting smoking AND getting yourself into shape at the same time is ridiculously hard. I wish you luck with your 'all-or-nothing' approach.

Posted by: RMM at December 21, 2004 03:33 PM

Scott, starting and finishing the novel on April 30th is gonna be tough, don't you think? Maybe you oughta cut yourself a little slack there. ;)

I gotta quit smoking too. It's sticking with it that's the hard part. I fucking suck at that. I think I'm gonna try some kind of smoking cessation program. I really think I'll need actual therapy, so whatever program that seems like it includes lotsa coaching and stuff like that is probably what I'll try. Hopefully having some support will finally get me over the hump. I've been smoking as long as I can remember, so it ain't gonna be easy! Jeez, just thinking about it, I can almost feel that 'one month into it - craving from the very pit of my soul' feeling. I think you should be allowed to get in your car and run people down at that point. I haven't made it past that yet!

Posted by: Dana at December 21, 2004 03:37 PM

I know sort of what you mean Dave...I love to shop, but HATE and DESPISE to wait in line. Whether it be 2 people or 20 people, I want to make my purchase then, damn it! LOL. Anyways, you go ahead and complain to us, and keep being a sweetie to that lovely wife of yours.

Hey Dave,
Just wondering if you've ever heard or seen Grant Langston and the Supermodels. A really good friend of mine is in the band . I'm trapped on the East coast with the wife and kids. I've never had a chance to see them. Just wanted to know your thoughts. They play the Whiskey and a few other LA landmarks. BTW, when you and Carmen do get around to raising a few pups it'll change your life, not that it's not cool, just different.

Thanks for the advice. I already own Most Cure albums including Starring at the Sea and Galore....But I also own nearly every Joy Division album and some boots as well...I just heard there were some rarities included in H & S that you couldn;t find elsewhere.....any other advice would be appreciated.

Posted by: Randal Flag at December 21, 2004 03:53 PM

Hey Dana -
Yeah, it's gonna be tough to finish a novel by then, but I started one a couple years ago and really flew through writing it (120 pages then quit b/c I didn't like the underlying sappyness of the story). If I really focus and put myself on a strict schedule with this new killer story, I can do it. Some nites I can throw down like 10 pages if I'm in a zone. (Kerouac wrote "on the Road" in a week, I can do my book in 4 months)
No more fukin around.
Smoking is gonna be tough, but hell, I can barely breathe in the am, so I have to make that stick. My wife just quit too (5 weeks ago), so I feel guilty smoking when she's doin so good. She's also a personal trainer now (new job) so she's gonna help me get back into shape and eat right too.
I'[m gonna need all the help I can get...But I'm gonna do it this time. I can feel it....
Peace
Scott

I really admire your conviction Scott!

Jezzi...where are you Sweetheart?!?!

Posted by: Cori at December 21, 2004 04:18 PM

Dave - you're a funny guy. I kind of have started to hate shopping for myself too. I dunno why, usually liked it. Anywho, what might your advice be for this music-related dilemma?

I started working on my album this October, it's ambient-melodic-electronic type of music, and from the start I meant for it to be introspective and to act as a catharsis. Some time after I started, I realized that basically I don't have those feelings anymore, that I wanted to deal with - I'd already let go, somehow. Thus, the motivation for writing died. But I got some other advice to try writing less introspectively, and more outwards - which makes sense, because my project - "the carbon flaw" - is about the emotional imperfection in humans. So I could write a little bit about me, and more about others. So I picked up and went forward with that idea. But now, I've found that it's just not motivating enough.

Basically this point in my life is not the right time for this particular album. I could begin work on my other project, which is meant to be more upbeat and beat-groove oriented... but at the same time it's like, I don't want to let go of what I just started, and I want this album completed.

I'm quite stuck!

I really hear you on the shopping bit. I get "mall rage". It's like my evil twin comes out and I have visions of pushing all the rude people that are being rude to me.Someone totally walked in on me in the dressing room yesterday and to top it off, they didn't speak english.I had to grunt like a cavewoman so that they would understand that it wasn't a good idea not to knock as I stood there in my bra with one arm through a sweater. Fuck I hate those excursions!!!!!!!!! The idea od X-mas is nice and all but it will be a relief when the madness ends. Happy holidays and happy shopping !!!!
Oh and by the way, aren't you even more enraged when a journey like this yields zero purchases!!?!?!! Arghhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Dave, do you plan on bringin' a little TPC to Dallas, Texas anytime soon? If so, when?

Posted by: Natalie at December 21, 2004 04:58 PM

Hi Dave n' fam...

Dave, I got a kick out of your post. It's very sweet that you're trying to "behave" around Carmen.

I normally love to shop, but I hate holiday shopping as well. The crowds, the cars, the clamor, the lines... ugh.

This year, I was determined to stay focused on what I needed to buy... and nothing more. For once, I did not meander about aimlessly, looking at everything. I saw what I wanted, and BAM... bought it. When my feet started to hurt and my head started to spin, I called it a day. Hence, things went much more smoothly.

I find it much easier to shop w/o my husband. When we go together, he whines the entire time, and it drives me nuts. He does, however, like it when stores have the "guy section"... you know, the couches and the magazines, where the men go to sit and wait. He usually falls asleep on the couch while I do my thing. Seems to work.

On a different note, I wish Scott a lot of luck with his resolutions. That's a LOT to change at once, but if you believe that you can do it, then you can! That's great that there's a book inside you just screaming to get out!

I'm not sure what my resolution will be yet. Mulling it over. But I know that I will probably be starting a new job come the new year. I got offered one, it sounds pretty good, and now I just have to officially accept. I'm mostly psyched, but I'm sort-of dreading the daily grind after the past 2 months of total freedom. LOL. But I'm sure it will be fine.

Best wishes and much love,

I hear ya Dave! It could be worse. Not only do I despise shopping, but our holiday will be 3 cities, 3 celebrations, 800 miles, in 2 days. So way to suck it up, and remember, it will be over soon. It's just one day.

Cheers,

Mike C.

Dave, I love what you wrote! It's so funny... and true! I've been wondering what's your take on Christmas shopping. Now, I got it. Do you think your Hummer will take all of your shoppings or do you have to take another round to pick everything up?

BTW, how often do you drive the Hummer? Like three times out of ten? I mean, it's more likely to draw attention with it than traveling with the Grand National, wouldn't you say?! I bet that you also love to park the Hummer at those crowded lots you mentioned :)

Since I've joined this community, I've never felt such a sense of warmth and comraderie. The people on this board are so damn cool, sweet, and very accepting of others. I've never told anyone else this about myself, but I feel I can do so here and not be shunned or be made to feel like an outcast, evil, a demon, or a devil. So, without further adieu, here goes:

I was born with a tail.

There, I said it. Whew!-that's a load off of my mind, let me tell you.
So, everyone finish their shopping? Man, I've still got to get out there and fight the crowds, not really looking forward to it. Well, I'm off to get in traffic. Peace!

I can kinda relate, Lyn, if it's anything like having a big stick up your ass. :p

Scott, lotsa luck! Just don't set your sights so high that you're almost guaranteed to disappoint yourself. We are all two people -- our ideal selves and the shitheads we are in reality. I think it's important to strike a balance between the two, where goals are achieveable but not so high that you're destined to fail. It's something I had to learn. I also had to learn to forgive myself and move on if I didn't live up to my own expectations. I think I did brilliantly with that last one, as I seem to not give a fuck about much at all these days!

~Dave and Family~
You are such a trooper Dave I used to hate to shop but in the last year I have lost alot of weight and now love to shop lol. But still hate it around the holidays online shopping is a godsent haha. It is okay you are a considerate husband not making a peep she will love you for that espacially because she will know you are just doing it because you love her :).
As for the smoking i becacame a non smoker about a year ago and just like any other addiction man i can smell someone doing it a mile away haha come on just blow a little of that smoke my way lol. I was having big problems chest pains and i was a big girl i was almost 400 pounds and I have now quit drugs and smoking and and am under 170 pounds. My resolution i think for the new year would be to keep up my exercise regiman i have been working really hard to keep the weight off and exercising everyday. I hate it but I have to do it for me and i force myself. Here is to a better even slimmer year for me :). Wish everyone a happy holiday and a rockin' new year !!

I hope that Dave replies to my question because that would be such a trip

Dave, you played a Camp Freddy gig where Gavin Rossdale was onstage with you guys. Bush gets a bum wrap with somewhat unfair accusations, in my opinion. What do you make of his music? Do you think he is a genuine musical talent?

I thought you might be able to provide insight seeing as most people just typecast him as a joke. (I dont care what anyone says 'Alien' is a sweet song)

Hi, Dave do you remember much about the old Scream days?
I met you there once. My old roommate introduced us. She (my roommate)dated Eric A. for awhile. Anywho you were cool then and I'm glad to see that fame has not changed you.
I also met Jeff Beck at Scream. Do you still listen to him.

Hope you and your wife have a Merry Christmas and a truely great new year.

Peace

Hi everyone, long time no see. Just had knee surgery two days ago and am still a bit zoned out on the pain medicine, so forgive misspelled words, missed words, words in general that offend, etc.

Dave, this may sound like a foolish question, but how on earth DO you shop? Are you stopped constantly? Do artists/famous people/geniuses have a special place to shop? I personally love to shop, it's a borderline addiction for me; but if I were constantly stopped and asked to sign my name (other than a VISA receipt) I'd be a bit aggravated as well.

Oh, and the good news of the day. I'm in love! Bam, it really hit me last night. I'm in love with a wonderful man who was kind enough to take care of me in my drugged up, grumpy stupor after surgery and only responded to my bitching by kissing me on my forehead and getting me a Dr. Pepper (instead of stuffing a sock in my mouth). Not to mention that he didn't even leave me when I got sick after waking up from anesthesia - he just held my hair. Sorry for the sappy. It just makes me feel good inside.

New Years resolutions - every year the same for me. I vow to lose weight, save money, be on time, and write my book. It's an annual rededication on Jan 1 and self-hating ritual on Dec 31. I think this year I'm going to mix it up a bit and just resolve to love myself for who I am. Instead of trying to improve, I'm just going to try to accept.

This bit of self-discovery brought to you by Lortab.

Posted by: Aimee at December 21, 2004 06:36 PM

Congrats Aimee!

You too, Melissa. That's a lot of success you've had. You should be very proud of yourself!

Noah, I love Bush and always have, but I'm 39, so I don't have to be cool.

hi my lovely family and my lovely dave!!!!

i think it's normal for a guy to not like going shopping because they are impatient like my boyfriend and my brother. I think only gay men like shopping like women do...nothing against gay men. I love going shopping...I could probably go to the mall everyday.

love to all

Dave..

I think that is so great. Its the little things ya know. Its funny though I kind of pictured you as a guy who would enjoy shopping... but that is what I love about this site.. my imagination of what Dave is like, it morphing into who you really are. So cool.

Have a Great Holiday Everyone.

Hi Dave Hi All
You know one of the benifits of being married is that it is now 'Her' responsibility to do the shopping... than again there's always online shopping.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all!!!

Aimee - good for you, Sweetie! :D

Dave,

I can totally relate with you regarding shopping. I never complain, I just follow Luz, my girlfriend, wherever she goes. There is no reason to complain because she doesn't complain that much when I watch football. Besides, I like going to Victoria's Secret.

¿Have you read Motley Crue's book THE DIRT? I liked it mostly because of its structure. It isn't one continuos (DENISE did I spell that correctly) story. Each chapter is a different story. Neil did a great job on that one.

Later,
Mike from NYC

PS- ANCHORMAN and GARDEN STATE come out on DVD next Tuesday, 12/28. YEAH!!!!!!!

Dave! i hear ya...i loooove shopping...but during this time of year it's incredibly draining...so i send my mom with my money to do it for me (also cause i'm really busy working) lol...cause she's already out there...and she gladly does it for me...i love my mommy :-)

Aimee-congrats on being in love!! it's the most amazing feeling in the world!!

Melissa-wow!! congrats on dropping the drugs, smoking and weight...it shows great strength of character and it's soo amazing that you were able to give up not one vice, not two, but many...congrats!!

i dont know the fuck my problem is but i can't stand shopping at all. as far as I can tell, most of the lads on this blog can't stand it but somehow manage to transcend the pain and move on to higher ground. I admire you so much because that is out of the range of my own capabilities. there is simply no way to assuage my condition. i've always disliked x-mas because it has a tendency to compartmentalize love and infuse a sincere dose of materialism in the process. this is a double whammy on my heart.

uh - merry x-mas - lol

It's too cute the way you just vented...lol, made me smile :) What a great husband to let Carmen shop her little heart away without complaining. You so RULE Dave!

But, yeah, the mall was evil this past week! I left each day with a damn migrane.

Hey Dave! Man, I totally know how you feel. I really dislike shopping, especially on holidays. I usually have no idea what to buy for people. Half of the time I can't even buy for myself, much less other people. I do think it is all worth it in the end though because I like to make people happy on the holidays. It's funny how you mentioned the bathroom always being far away in department stores...it is SO true. Every time there are a million escalators in one fucking store that lead to the only bathroom...way off in some department that nobody is ever in at the right time.

I hope you and Carmen have a wonderful Christmas!

Posted by: Rachel B. at December 21, 2004 09:41 PM

Shopping sucks. It feels like dying. I can't handle more than about 15-20 minutes. My wife cannot comprehend it, my mother cannot comprehend it. That's why I outsource shopping to my wife -- a very effective business practice. If I absolutely have to go, I sit in Coffee Bean for 90 minutes using my PC.

Posted by: Mike at December 21, 2004 09:59 PM

you caught me. I'm sorry! Thanks for your reply :)

Posted by: RMM at December 21, 2004 10:22 PM

I really laughed my ass off at this post. Don't get me wrong bro, i feel your pain. Being a parent, it's tough to get time to go out alone and do things, and when we do it usually ends up in a department store, which is fine when we're in the elctronic section, but always ends up in womens clothing for some reason. but like you, I've learned to just enjoy the company:) If you and Carmen decide to have kids, it adds a whole new dimension, especially at Christmas time. Being able to "test" out toys, and have an excuse to do so is an awesome experience!

Randal

Having both the Joy Division set and the Cure set, I will say flat out the Cure is the *best*. So much rare and hard to find crap on there it is mind boggling, and I've alwaysthought that the Cure's 'odds and ends' tend to be better ("Burn" on the Crow soundtrack for example) Connect the dots is well well worth the price and a pleasure and a half to listen to.

RE: resolutions. I want to quit smoking this year as well. While neither the wife nor I (she smokes as well have EVER smoked in the house, even before we had kids, the kids are getting old enough to wonder why mom and dad pop outside every so often for 15 minutes.. I've been smoking pretty much for 20 years, and the Dr. is freaked by the XRays of my lungs because there's noevidence that I'm a smoker. No damage to the lungs, no high blood pressure, so heart problems, but still I know I should just give it the fuck up. Scott, I can relate on the novel thing. I am determine to finish my graphic novel by end of 2005 (with 150-some painted pages, I have to average one every other day or so) but I think it's doable. Ain't getting any fucking younger, that's for damn sure.

Speaking of which, thank you ALL again for so many kind wishes. Lyn was right, the folks here are really just so giving and sweet. It gives you hope in even the most jaded heart ;)

Now, if you'll excuse me, my lovely wife got me Battle for Middle Earth and Half Life 2, and I'm going to go lose some sleep in a fun way :) Best to you all (and Dave to you, Carmen, and the boys in the band as well.) if I'm not on again before I leave for the mountains. Looking forward to two weeks off work!

May all of you be blessed this coming year, and to all a good night. (breaks into God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen...)

Thank you all again for your well-wishes for my grandpa, thought I'd let you know that he is out of the hospital today which is good, but will most likely not be able to make it to spend Christmas Eve with the family. Big time dealers I say... but now my fellow companions I to go to shopping... hope it´s not nightmare, but you know we scandinavians are so small with the amount of people so I don't think it's a problem... DAVE & CARMEN...

Christmas shopping- What can I say? I love to shop period. What I ABSOLUTELY hate is when you are sitting in the parking lot waiting for the fool who just got into their car to light up the cig, talk on the cell phone and wait for next Christmas to get out of the spot so that you can pull inot it! What is the problem with those people??? I never understood that.
Well anyway--Last nigth I went to a reasterant un STATEN ISLAND called ANGELINA's and guess who's picture was on the wall when I walked in?
YES THE lovely & gorgeous CARMEN ELECTRA. Carmen you looked so pretty wearing a red & white dress.
Well I hope you and Dave have a very Merry Christmas and A Blast for New Years! Hopefully one day we will see you guys have some amazing kids.
All the love from in in New York!

I totally don't like shopping either and shopping with my husband is just miserable because he hates it more than i do and all he does is say "are you ready to go". But it's done and it does feel good to give to the ppl you love. Smoking is a hard habit to break. I just recently quit for the 2nd time in October. Luckily i had the motivation of being pregnant. Of course the first time was when i got pregnant with my daughter... then started again after. This time i'm gonna stick with it! For good! Anyway, Happy Holidays to everyone. Hi Dave,I have a question: you smoke cigarettes and drink coffee, don't you? Er,I find that the combination of fags(I'm English)and tea(yep,English) can give you wicked bad breath,so I spent most of the day chewing gum. Here's the question-how do you combat this?
Oh,yeah,Xmas shopping is shit here,too!

Posted by: piers666 at December 22, 2004 08:53 AM

Yeah Christmas shopping is not high on my list either.. UNLESS it's with a good friend, visiting from out of town and the gift is EXACTLY what he wanted.. so goes "Pony Does Toronto".

We have just had a blast. More music gear for him.. a trip to the Hockey Hall Of Fame, a couple of stops at the Hard Rock Cafe and music DVD's to watch in the evening. It was also cool that we were downtown and we passed a Music TV station (Much Music)and they were setting up for some show.. we got back to the apartment and watched Simple Plan do a one hour live show. It was a lot more comfortable watching from home then freezing our butts off outside.

If I do or do not post between now and Saturday, I want to wish Dave and Carmen and the rest of the 6767 family A Very Merry Christmas and For A Prosperous New Year.

Peace and Respect,

Hey Dave, and 67ers,
My first time posting, but I try to stop by as often as possible. Just thought I'd share this little thought, it reminded me of Dave's topic when I read it. (it's from a forward, but it's not too terribly long)

In the December (2002) "Guideposts" there's an article written by Ruth Stafford Peale, the widow of Norman Vincent Peale, the founder of the magazine. She talks of Christmas and how busy it always was and how they thought when the kids were grown and gone, things "would transform themselves into a time of tranquillity and reflection." But it didn't work that way, and Christmases were still precious, anyway. Here's a part of that piece:

Norman loved to tell a story about a missionary- teacher in Africa who received a beautiful seashell from a student. The boy had gone on foot to a distant section of the African coast to get the shell. "You've traveled so far to bring me such a wonderful present," the missionary told him. "Oh, teacher," the boy replied, "long walk part of gift."

There always seemed to be a moment when holiday preparations would get so crazy and complicated that either Norman or I would feel like throwing up our hands. That's when one of us would stop and say: "Long walk part of gift." Then we'd get back to whatever we had been doing. The more the last-minute chores, surprise guests, and just- one-more-gift excursions into town piled up, the more we remembered that what seemed like petty distractions from celebrating the season were really nothing of the sort. They were its very heart.

May your holiday journeys be as blessed as your destinations.

L O N G W A L K P A R T O F G I F T

cheers,
Justin from New Orleans

Do you believe that learning guitar is something that has to be started when you are young, or could someone old like myself learn as easy ( Mid 30's )

Thanks

Wendy you lucky woman! Hawaii! Have a great time! :)

See if I had a house I'd so throw a party new years eve, but I have an appartement and I don't think the managers would appreciate the noise all night!

One thing I know of that might be cool to go to is to the Whiskey where a Doors tribute band (Wild Child) is playing. Tickets are $25. You know I'm big on the Doors..

So Dave - how long did it take youto get ready to go shopping on tuesday? Did you just throw on some leather pants and necklaces and go, or did you have to "get ready" and pick out an outfit, put on makeup, etc.? Or do you procrastinate and surf the web and only leave when Carmen is about ready to yell at you?

Mortisha, I'd love to go to that. I have everything by The Doors! But it looks like I'll be stuck here in Philly.
