3rd! I get at 1st one day!

Here's perfect evidence that either:

a.)TPC is growing in scale, momentum, and just sheer terrifying power. or...

b.) the world is so fucking small it can make your head spin.

So, I'm on the way home from work, and the wife tells me we need some things from the store and then I need to go by Baskin Robbins and get ice cream for everyone. (6 kids, 3 adults. = A lot of fucking ice cream)

So I go to the Albertson's just around the corner from the house, and get my 3 items and as I'm in line, I see this girl who looks REALLY familiar... I'm trying to place the face and it's driving me absolutely batshit crazy, until I realize..."That looks like Abby from the Dave/Steve/TPC boards. Nah, no way, she lives up in LA. Can't be..." Nonetheless, it's driving me crazy the entire time I'm checking out. As I'm leaving I glance over, and lo and behold, there's this Panic Channel pin on her purse strap. I get the cashier to get her attention for me and introduce myself, at which point we're both baffled we live in the same OC suburb. So, hi Abby, nice to meet you, sorry I had to run off to get ice cream and couldn't talk.

The Panic Channel... it haunts my waking hours, it's around every corner...

and you people are EVERYWHERE!!!

-R

PS Dave, have fun in Vegas, brotha.

Hey Dave I saw you on the VH1 metal segment, with Perk. It was amusing to know Perk thought the horns hand gesture was from The Breakfast Club!

Posted by: Rain at December 7, 2004 12:26 AM

Hi Rantz!!!! It was nice to meet you too =) ...must say it was odd though, as you said, this small OC suburb, but hey small world! Good to know that there are more of "us" around! lol...see you at the next show! (hopefully)

Posted by: Fleuri at December 7, 2004 01:53 AM

Yo Dave, When are we going to be able to get some TPC swag? (tshirts, buttons, stickers, etc...)

I still have my "Trust No One" sticker on the back of my car, and i think some "It's Time to Panic" stickers would look great next to it.

Posted by: Six7Six7 at December 7, 2004 02:41 AM

Rantz and Abby:

It makes me think about when you see someone wearing the same band shirt that you have yourself, but is WAY COOLER!

May your chance meeting be catalogued as the first of its kind in relation to TPC!

Have a good Tuesday everyone.

NightBird, about the automatic doors...they ignore me too sometimes. once i thought he opened, but he didn't, so i smashed my face right through it. quite painful..now i don't trust them anymore...and i'm not even that short

i'm a bit late with the response, but i've been playing Myst IV lately..quite addictive. it's hard to work on the game AND be on this site 24/7..ever tried?

Oh, Denise... we grew up during the same timeframe in the NYC suburbs. A time for AquaNet, and Cynthia and TKA, and Iroq-Zs... and Cavarricci's. MY GOD... I owned a pair in every color, and I was such a baby slut, with cutoff tops and those ridiculous parachutey pants.... my bellybutton was my greatest accessory, to my mother's dismay. You couldn't make it through high school then without having some of the dance music culture rub off. But my metal roots were firmly planted in 7th grade, when I read Helter Skelter at my cousin's house while listening to Led Zeppelin IV over and over. From there, I just fell into the black abyss of metal, and never really had any cares to climb out. But being a dancer, you could catch me at the dance clubs, drawing attention to myself by finding the highest and most visible surface possible that would support my body weight to dance. Such a narcissist. Hee. :-)

Dave, I'm not here to flame you...merely to make a suggestion...

You are one of my favorite guitar players ever, And I have always supported all you musical endeavours. Jane's and Deconstruction are 2 of my favorite bands ever (even though decon was only one album) I thought OHM was one of the best chili peppers ever, And I enjoyed your Solo album as well and the Spread era songs....

But the Panic Channel? SUCKS ASS. Please Dave, you are such a better singer than Isaacs, why don;t you take over vocals and leave Isaacs on a second guitarist, maybe have him sing 1 or 2 songs on the album and you do the rest...his voice is horrid.

Posted by: Fidel Castro at December 7, 2004 01:10 PM

Fidel, didn't Steve ban you from his site for your "suggestions"? It's pretty obvious Dave approves of Steve's singing very much, cause, you know, he's in the band and stuff. Dude, give it a rest. You don't have to listen.

Posted by: Lyn at December 7, 2004 01:28 PM

d-
Do I remember you playing a guitar with the perry's twins on it? 1990-ish you had dreads, or did I dream this both the guitar and dreads?

This is what Fidel Castro was “REALLY trying to say. I just had to alter it a bit from his “original lame ass post. Enjoy Fidel.......

Dave, I'm not here to flame you (I LOVE YOU-YOU ROCK AND FORGIVE ME BECAUSE I HAVE SINNED HERE BEFORE, AND ON STEVE’S WEBSITE)...merely to make a (WEAK SUGGESTION THAT IN REALITY WILL NEVER HAPPEN, THAT NONE OF THE 6767’S TAKES ANY SHIT FROM ME, AND IF BY SOME STRANGE DIVINE INTERVENTION IT STILL WON’T HAPPEN)...

You are one of my favorite guitar players ever (WE ALL AGREE WITH THAT), And I have always supported all you musical endeavours (SPELLING-ENDEAVORS)(JOIN THE CLUB!) Jane's and Deconstruction are 2 of my favorite bands ever (even though decon (LET ME HELP YOU HERE-“DECONSTRUCTION DECON (SPELLING) MAKES THE BAND SOUND LIKE A BUG SPRAY-RESPECT!) was only one album) (TRUE-MAYBE THERE IS A BRAIN CELL OR TWO ACTUALLY FIRING HERE IN THIS GUY’S HEAD?) I thought OHM was one of the best chili peppers ever (WE THINK SO TOO), And (<-LOWER CASE THE “A) I enjoyed your Solo album as well and the Spread era songs (THEY ARE REALLY THE SAME THING BTW: WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A FEW SONGS)....

But the Panic Channel? (HOW CAN I QUESTION YOUR ARTISTIC PURSUIT HERE? I MUST BE OUT OF MY MIND OR LISTENING TO ASHLEE SIMPSON TOO MUCH, BUT JUST THE SHEER FUCKING BRILLIANCE OF IT, I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF? I THINK I AM A FAN NOW!) Please Dave, (I WOULD LOVE TO WATCH YOU ROCK OUT WITH ISAACS), why don;t (< -LEARN HOW TO SPELL-DON’T) you (SING ME A SONG, AND ROCK A GUITAR RIFF FOR ME?) Isaacs (CAN ROCK OUT TOO) on his (KILLER TELECASTER) guitar, maybe have him sing (WITH DAVE THE PANIC CHANNEL SONGS) to (ME) on the album and you do your (RIGHTEOUS GUITAR SOLOING)...his voice is a (POWERHOUSE OF VOCAL TONE, HE IS A GREAT GUITAR PLAYER, AND A HELL OF A NICE GUY!) (THIS WASN’T ADDED-BUT WHAT THE HELL....CAN I HAVE A TPC STICKER PLEASE?)

See, I knew Fidel had it in him! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!

That guitar was also on an old cover of Guitar magazine (I think it was Nov. 97 could be wrong) where he was sitting with Flea on a rocking bench like on the cover of Nothing Shocking with the twins.

Hi All,

Dave - I hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip to Vegas.

Adina/Nightbird - OMG... I can completely relate to your post. (I didn't think anyone else knew who TKA was! LOL.) I was a big fan of dancing on speakers and other elevated surfaces myself. We probably ran into each other out at the clubs back in the day, and didn't even know it! I take it you live in LA now?

And for those interested, here's another pic of Dave w/ dreads and the NS guitar. This is one of my personal faves, in fact. Hot, hot, hot.

Dave, a good question I think:

There's an obvious difference of you back in the day with the longer black hair and eyeliner, etc.

Now, shorter, natural hair little if no makeup. I'm curious why the change - is it "the new Dave" since marriage, or just something you felt like doing?

I remember mentioning your solo album to a friend and how much I liked it and a friend was like "He's weird" and suddenly I think about either obvious feminine side you'd display on stage and whatnot, and I'd just say "I dunno, so what... his music's great" - what can I say, I bet you appreciate open minds.

Were there still issues of drugs involved in Jane's Addiction during this last go around? Did that have something to do with the last break-up? Or was it more of a side effect of another lollapalooza pulling some of the bands creative forces away?

There are a lot of people who have been with you for years and years who really appreciate the creative force of Jane's and although there is focus on the future here, I was wondering if there was any light that might be shed on the falling apart of Jane's.

TPC sounds alright so far, good luck, take chances.

good morning family!!

Good morning Dave!! I was just listening to radio as I was driving into work. There was a story about George Carlin. I guess he finished up his four year gig at the MGM Grand last night by 'allegedly' insulting his audience, saying that he was happy to be going back to the East Coast where people are real. I found that statement to be quite ironic, since he is starting another gig at the Stardust in February....

Do you empathize with people whose attempts at humor are taken seriously, has a news organization ever taken something you meant as sarcasm and published it as news?

jezebel(I'll laugh when it's funny)

from Billboard.com:
"...former Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro will play guitar during Usher's performance of "Bad Girl," reprising a partnership that first surfaced in September at the Fashion Rocks concert at New York's Radio City Music Hall." Show is set to air live, tonight, on Fox.

couple things...

I really don't care too much for Incubus, think most of their lyrics are lazy, high school poetry level, but I hope they win the grammy because out of that competition, it's by far the best song. Powerful enough I bought the album, and I'm one cheap bastard at this point...

2.) The Crue. Having seen Motley Crue touring for Shout at the Devil, opening for Ozzy (Bark at the Moon era) I don't think that can be topped, so I'll just be happy with my mid-80s memories of how floored those guys left me at the time.

wishing I was in Vegas, breaking headboards and losing money...

hi to all and hope everyone is doing well!

Lyn - Thanks for the heads-up about the Usher/Dave performance tonight! This will give me a reason to watch the awards, or at least to flip around until Dave comes on. :)

... and is today the first day of Hanukah, Nightbird? If so, Maazel Tov to all of you celebrating it!

I hate getting political here, because politics should remain totally separate from any form of entertainment, but you forced it on us with your Hunting of the President review. I haven't seen it personally, but I did read the cover, and it seems like they are blaming the so called right wing conspiracy for bringing Clinton down. But don't you think Clinton brought it on himself tho? I mean c'mon, if he wouldn't have committed perjury, he would have just been an unfaithful husband. Now he's an unfaithful law breaker who was impeached and disbarred.

Two very brief and concise questions....

Are you aware of how many of your signature PRS's are going to be distributed ?

Also, what is currently driving you to become a better musician ?

Thank you. I look up to you.
Pete

Posted by: Pete at December 8, 2004 12:53 PM

umm, KaCow? Dave didn't force anything on anyone. If you go back and actually re-read the post, it states, "I rented an amazing documentary last night called, The Hunting of the President. Check it out if you haven't yet. Really compelling stuff about the Clinton administration and the attempt to bring it down. The best part for me was in the special features when Clinton responds to the film after a screening. What an amazing guy. You know, I'm not much for politics but he really is an amazing speaker and presence. I met him once with Carmen at the Democratic National Convention and he was nothing short of totally charismatic. Anyway, I enjoyed the film." Upon further review, Dave simply states that Clinton was an amazing speaker and presence and charismatic-hardly a pep rally or a cheer. The post was also 11 days ago. If you felt so forced, then why wait 11 days to respond?

A BEAUTIFUL PRAYER....

I asked God to take away my habit.
God said, No.
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.
Patience is a by-product of tribulations;
it isn't granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.
I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares
and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow on your own! ,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No.
I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.

I ask God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me.
God said...Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

May God Bless You,
Blanca Lizardi

person you just might be the world"

Ditto Lyn for the heads up! I was going to watch the beginning hoping for a red carpet moment at least. I'd love to know approximately when the performance is scheduled during the show since I'll have to be switching between it and America's Next Top Model. I mean, how can ya miss an episode entitled "The Girl Who Didn't Hug Goodbye"! Hmm, Eva must be gettin' the boot.

Let's see, 2:30 Vegas time. Wonder what Dave's doing? Getting a facial...nails...waxing the leather pants...playing Blackjack....not blogging however. I'm having withdrawal from his (nearly!) daily postings...yikes!

On December 8th 1980, John Lennon was shot to death as he returned home from the recording studio. I always believed that the world changed from that moment forward. I was just shy of my twelth birthday but I knew in my heart that the world had lost something truly remarkable. We had lost a voice to guide us through difficult times. He was not just the voice on the stereo. He was the voice of a generation. He was not afraid to tell the truth. He was not afraid to sell peace. He was not afraid of what we thought.

I am almost thirty-six now and I still feel a void in my life when I hear his music. When my first child was born we had picked out a name for a girl and we were prepared to give her that name. When the nurse place my new bundle in my arms I felt a sense of calm that I had never known. It was a lot like floating under water. Shapes, colors, sounds were almost melting together and I heard music coming up from the floor and the melody engulfed me. I knew this song. It was Julia. I heard John's voice all around me singing about his own mother whose name was Julia. It was probably only a few seconds but it felt like hours and suddenly I blurted out, "Her name is Julia." We had selected dozens of names and Julia was not among them. But she became Julia nontheless. Julia is ten now and recognizes John Lennon's music. She says, "I'm named after that man's mother."

Anyway, I thought that we should recognize the day as a day of peace and wondering what might have been. I know what he would have told the world about this latest war.

Imagine.

WOW Steve, I just read you post, I hadn't even realised that today was December 8th.

Not one of those lame TV gossip shows even remembered John's passing. How soon people forget about one of the most famous & innovative musicians in the world. Not to mention, one of the most forward thinkers for his & many other generations of msuic fans.

Music today is so disposable, pre-fabricated & just plain fake. Only a very small handful of current musical artists will ever have the impact The Beatles had on pop music & pop culture in general.

The Beatles changed music, fashion & most importantly, made their fans THINK.

The other night I happened to see a TV advertisement for the new Beatles boxed set, I commented to a friend how 'fresh' their stuff still sounds today.

Thankfully, John's music is still here for future generations to appreciate.

Hey people!

Jezzie - the stickers are either a freaky coincidence or it means we both shop at Target!

Brett - haha, brilliant translation!

nightbird - I'm short too, but I've never had a problem with automatic doors not opening... although really tall people tend not to see me and walk right into me.

Speaking of John Lennon, that's exactly why I got some more Beatles music yesterday and listened to it quite a bit today.

gotta say it's so cool that Rantz and Abby met!

The billboards are coming on within minutes here, so I'm gonna jet. I'm excited to see who all won!

Hope everyone is well!

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least five people died and two others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported.

The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.

Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne reported. The other band member's name was not released. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.

Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.

Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed. It was unclear as to whom shot the alleged gunman.

NBC 4 reported that of the surviving victims, one was in critical condition while the other was in fair condition. Several others were treated at the scene, suffering from various injuries.

Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, NBC 4 reported.

According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.

Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.

Watch NBC 4 and refresh nbc4i.com for additional information.

hey ylais!, I was particularly inspired by that scene in "Up In Smoke" when they're on stage playin' 'earache my eye', cheech in his pink tutu with his green guitar, running around...soooo good!..they rock!!!

What a horrible report Wendybird, I watch the local NBC affliate here in NYC, they didn't cover that awful news.

How the hell did anyone get into a club with a gun? NYC club & music venue security check everyone with a metal detector before they're allowed in.

Posted by: itanja at December 8, 2004 10:10 PM

Wow...I'm barely able to write what i was reading here.
You know...Weird bumping into other 6767'ers (saw a license plate that said "Wndybird"...but didn't want to freak anybody out by lookin' all up in the window saying "I know you!" all psycho-looking!) And I thought Mick Mars was sick....and good for Dave getting into his funk/RnB groove cuz that's what his work with RHCP was primarily...and remembering John Lennon by playing a tune by him...
But if that post is true about Dimebag...I just fuckin'can't belive it...I remember seeing Prong, Sepatura, and Pantera in the OC. Brazil won the World's Cup that day and the party was on! All I remember was Dime playing "Planet Caravan" while two girls went down on each other on stage! Thank God, I didn't leave early! I'm so fucking bummed...I'm just besides myself

About the shooting. I don’t even want to think about that. That’s just plain sick.

Posted by: Wendybird at December 8, 2004 10:45 PM

Yea, Wend...that's what I was thinking, I'd go up and freak somebody out and they'd be running and screaming "I don't want to do 6767 or 69 with you!!!! WWWAAAAHHHHH!!!!" I'd be the last one to approach someone. When viejas see me, they grab their purses and walk to the OTHER side of the street!!

I just jammed on a Lennon tune and started to detune for some "Far Beyone Driven" licks and thought "christ...what if this sick fuck is some copy cat-ter and did it just because John was shot on this day?"

Just rambling...Dime kept me sane through the "grunge" era and when Jane broke up. Like a fuckin' dentist drill,BBBBBBRRRR BBBRRRR BBRR BBRR, his guitar licks were. His bro was the drummer, Vinnie Paul. I haven't read the links yet...did he get shot, too?

I'm stunned once again. Whatever happened to the days when an artist could walk on stage and not be murdered? What happened to the concept of cherishing those who enrich our lives with music and other forms of art, rather than shooting them down as they walk to their front door?

24 years ago, it was John... tonight it was Dimebag...

This is fucking insanity.

It's time for civilized people to take ownership of the world again. The violence is getting to the point where it isn't even safe to attend public events anymore, because God only knows what might happen while you're there. It's ridiculous. People need to react with outrage to this kinda stuff (instead of briefly raising their eyebrows, then moving on. And if law enforcement can't manage to get enough of a grip on things, people should take justice into their own hands and refuse to tolerate these senseless acts of violence and vandalism. What quality of life do we have if we can't even feel safe in our own communities? Enough is enough.

You know, it blows my mind how out of control violence is getting. Who is to blame for all of this? It's really a rhetorical question but it would be nice to have one answer so that it could be fixed. You can't blame the guns because people control the guns. You can't blame people because everyone has some fucked up good reason in their mind for killing another person and the ones that don't are considered mentally disturbed. You can't blame the government because they are never wrong and can only do some much even if it is nothing at all.
I know our justice system as flawed as it is, does work most of the time but that isn't the issue here for me. It's the lack of social responiblitiy that so many are guilty of.

Imagine
John Lennon
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us

Posted by: hector at December 9, 2004 09:04 AM

I had no idea who the musicians were who were murdered, though I was extremely shocked when I read Wendybirds post of the incident.

NO ONE should be murdered while they are working and that's technically what the band were doing while they were killed...the guys were working! Imagine someone coming into your place of business & randomly shooting people?

After all, part of being in a band shouldn't be about laying your life on the line every time you go onstage, they weren't cops or fireman....they were performers!

As I also posted last night, where the hell were the metal detectors? Did this club even have metal detectors or a security person who checked people who entered the club?

The club management has to take full responsiblity for this if they had no security checking people.

Here in NYC, after 9/11, security for clubs & concert venues became very tight. Years ago, all the security guys worried about were whether or not people were trying to sneak in liquor bottles or cans of beer! Sadly today it's a much scarier scenario. All venues should be dealing accordingly, sounds as if some are not.

RIP Damageplan/Dimebag.

Just a side note...
Darby Crash Od'd the day before John Lennon was shot in 1980. So of course his death was totally overshadowed by John's shooting. So poor Darby, in death as in life, received little or no recognition for his contributions to music.

Has anyone heard any more news about the other band member that was killed? My boyfriend is scrambling frantically to find out if it was Pat Lachman. He worked his last album with his previous band, Diesel Machine, and considers him a friend. I am so sad for him.... He lost a friend in the Rhode Island fire as well. What a terrible day....

Hey Nightbird,

The news is reporting it was his brother, Vinny. Two members in one family - it goes from bad to worse!

R.I.P Dimebag, You are one of the main reasons I pick up the guitar every day. We need to show some love for Dime.

Angel,
What news agency reported Vinnie's death? I have not seen it anywhere.

In contrast to all of the terrible and horrid news from yesterday, just thought I'd share that I just saw a girl that I know working in restaurant. Not terribly exciting news, except that a year ago, the same person was a crack addict and turning tricks on the street. I recognized her because I bought food for her in the past, NOT given her any money, cause that's the worst thing you can do for an addict. It made me feel really good. I almost didn't recognize her, as she used to cover up her face as much as possible when on the streets and walked all slouched over. Now, she's a radiant, standing-up-straight, proud, beautiful person. :)
