Just So Random

Dave_navarro46(You know, I have taken a lot of heat from the die hards for my collaboration with Christina. I gotta tell you, from this angle, I don't see the problem!)

Well, the whole Peterson thing really spawned a conversation of differing ideas. I must admit, that I am a little biased when it comes to violent crimes. My thinking is that humans are very resilient creatures and are able to adapt to the worst of conditions. So, although one school of thought is that it might be better to let someone rot in jail forever than to give them the quick fix of a Death Penalty, another school of thought is that, even in jail, one can eat, make friends, laugh, play games, become sexually gratified and adjust to the life inside. Actually make a home of it. (What do I know? I have never spent more than a night in a holding tank for drunk driving... but I kind of had a blast.) The guy has been inside so long anyway that he is basically just going back home. They won't get to carrying out the sentence for quite some time. My mother's killer has been sitting on the Row for at least 10 years now.

Today is more writing and we start some mixing and finishing touches on some music tomorrow. We have been on a kind of creative roll as of late. We call it creative mode, where we just don't second guess anything as we go. Just spill it out. Many people have asked me how we do our writing. We spill it all out, good and bad and uncertain in the creative mode, then after we have a body of work, we go into edit mode and fine tune or throw stuff away...

I don't know if the e-mail situation everyone is talking about is on our end, but I will look into it. Being a Mac user, I kind of know nothing about the whole virus thing. I know that our assistant, a PC user, just went through some virus hell and it appears to be going around. A word of caution, we are not sending anything out on a mass level and haven't for a while. Unless you get a TPC response to a personal e-mail, I'd toss anything unsolicited.

Have a Beautiful Day!!!

Hey Dave,

Christina is into latin guys you know. Did you tag that? I'll bet she wanted you to.

I know i would.

eh bien me revoila (mdr je parle toute seule somme toute, mais merci pour le "welcome", je suis tres touchée. Ce qui donne en translation: thank U for the "welcome spaceoddity" and for the "let's be patriotic" :)))).
Eh bien oui soyons le!! Welle, I'll try to speak english here... there was a time I was good at school in english (help! I have the awful feeling that what I write is totally foolish and that I make big mistakes arffffff.. helppp). But I forgot it... I'm a french litterary teacher anyway, that's what I do in my life. I like it like I like philosophy (I studied philosophy whil I was student at the sorbonne (yes a star is born, be careful, it's the sorbonne :)))), and music (I was when I was young (I'm 33),violin.
But I was lead to make a choice between philosophy and violin, and as my sister was alson a violonist (better than me, she's now professionnal), I decided to tudy philosophy.
Here's a short resume of my life "my life, my work by me :))))...
I love rock n roll obviously (I consider that without it life doesn't worth to be lived),jazz music (miles davis, bird, lockwood, coltrane...), classic music (I'm fond of beethoven, Saint saens, Bartok, Bizet, Mendhelsson.. and so many others... I'm fond of a musical genius: david oistrak...), I'm fond of movies (french film makers like truffaut, deville, cornaud...) and, for others, bergman (le 7eme sceau), and the great very great terrence malick (the thine red line is my favorite movie)...
It's very difficult to say all in english... pfff... I need an automatic translator, I know it does exist but the transalation woul be strange...
Well david Navarro, thank U for your interior feeling of music, thank U for succeeding in put these interior feelings into music, thank U for your vision of the world and what kind of power to stay alive and open to humanity...

Hey all,

Dave, I don't know whether you approve of this or not but I got a copy of the bands 2nd show (I'll still buy the album when it's out!). In was really impressed by some of the songs on it especially Loophole ond Go On (the baseline on the former is amazing). My question is sort of related to the show. Are there any songs which you've performed live for Panic that you think just don't fit and are on the scraphead and does crowd reaction play a part in whether you decide to continue with a certain song or not?

Posted by: orange at December 16, 2004 11:08 AM

Who is giving you a hard time for working with Christina?? Maybe if it was Britney or our little Ashley I could see that. All I have to say is that at least Christina has talent.

Anyhow even if it was Britney or Ashley who cares as long as you are having a good time, keep it up kid.

Posted by: wendybird at December 16, 2004 11:10 AM

OK...did a bit more checking with my resident computer guy at work...he said perhaps someone with a PC who has thepanicchannel email addy in their address book is the source of the virus and the virus has hijacked thepanicchannel email addy out of their address book to use as it's "from" address and then sent it to everyone else in the address book.

Clear as mud, huh?

We are actually getting virus laden emails here at work that "appear" to be a message from our own virus protection program telling us that an email message we sent has been quarantined because it's infected. The email, of course, was never sent and when someone can't remember that and clicks on the link to try and see the "quarantined" message to refresh their memory...bam...the virus is unleashed.

I must say, the peeps who come up with this stuff are clever...if only they could use their intelligence for good instead of evil! ;)

Ha, wait a minute, did you just mention the stuff about taking heat for collaborating with Christina, so you could show off that favorable picture??

I’m telling you I could be a little slow most times

spaceoddity....Welcome! What you write is not totally foolish...I understood you very well. It is nice to meet you! :D

Blanca, Blanca, Blanca..you go girl!!!

Ok, hmm, what to say to Dave today?

I got it...I was watching a West Wing rerun, where Danny gave C.J. a fish, because he heard she liked goldfish, and it turned out that she liked the CRACKERS!!! She appreciated the gesture, though..

So, the conversation yesterday with algermom, trying to figure out what a 'croc' was, got me to thinking...Have any of you ever given or received a gift that, although it had the best intentions, turned out to be off base....My family is notorious for giving me incredibly "unique" gifts of attire...and one year I got a set of flannel pjs from Victoria's Secret, of all things...lol....

jezebel(oh, and there was the Christmas I got a Bobby Vinton album, but I don't really want to talk about it)

"and one year I got a set of flannel pjs from Victoria's Secret, of all things...lol...."

Are you related to Lyn?

Posted by: Cori at December 16, 2004 11:23 AM

Dave,

Great pic of you and Xtina.

I know that the Death Penalty could never be viewed as a deterrent b/c it is an impossible thing to calculate. I think that the victims' family and friends do get some sort of gratification or some feeling of justice when the killer is exocuted.
¿Dave when your mother's killer is exocuted, will you feel this way?
I support the death penalty but there are cases where it should not be used. Take for instance Aileen Wournos from the movie MONSTER. She was not mentally fit even though she knew that murder was wrong. She was definitely crazy and was not aware of reality.

(You know, I have taken a lot of heat from the die hards for my collaboration with Christina. I gotta tell you, from this angle, I don't see the problem!)

Exactly why the undeground/die hard scene and their ideals/morals/beliefs are unrealistic and ignorant. I've had a problem with the "scene" and the people who make up the "scene" for awhile now. Do what makes you happy, and what you feel is right. The notion of "selling out" is not realistic, and it hinders creativity.

Posted by: Jeff at December 16, 2004 11:26 AM

Hey Dave:

I've always wondered what the creative process was for writing songs like "Three Days" and "Then She Did..." As both are incredible epics, who had what ideas first? Did you come to the guys with a general structure for both or did they evolve out of something else?

Posted by: david at December 16, 2004 11:27 AM

Spaceoddity-your english is real good,i think maybe ya got me(mooyyaa) mixed up with Lyn on the last session,my name was at the top of Lyn's post and under mine.:)

Hi,

DAVE -
I totally understand your point-of-view about the death penalty (esp. in California). Thanks for sharing that.

And, IMO, someone with such a blatant disregard for human life probably doesn't value (and won't miss) their own that much, either.

On a lighter note, that pic of you and Christina makes me wish I was a better singer. ;)

Love,

Hello everyone!

Dave, you are a true moderator!

Love to all!
me

P.S. In the daily misgivings, got a call from my mom yesterday and she wrecked her van. My dad was driving it to the appraisers and the driveway to the place was ice covered. He totalled it. He is absolutely sick! This is his first accident - he is 65 - and he is a professional driver. He is sick over it all! And my parents don't have the resources to purchase a new vehicle. I think I may have to take my Disney World Trip money and give it to them to help them. They have my 85 year old grandmother and 13 year old sister to take care of too!

Hi Dave,

I've said this a million times in conversations overs the years....musicians should be free to work with any type of musician they want to.....being expeosed to all sorts of music is what keeps the creativity flowing. The same can be said of any artistic endeavors....art, writing....we NEVER stop leanring & absorbing new things!

Christina CAN sing, anyone with a functioning hearing knows that! lol

She's young & wrapped up in the whole 'image' thing these days. In time, she'll focus more on her craft, rather than her ridiculous quotes to the press, Vegas style stage presentation & over the top videos. She can stand on her voice alone.

After all, the music should be the most important factor here, which unfortunately sometimes takes a backseat to hype.....such as a musicians sexual antics or bizarre clothing choices.

It's ALL fun to read about & observe, but you don't see any of that stuff when the album/CD is playing!

Remember, there was a time when there was NO MTV....NO glossy visuals to get people into the music! Hell, there was NO TV years ago....all any musician had to solely rely on, was their MUSIC....which should be enough.

take care,
itanja

Dave!! how are you? I've seen pictures and things of the Love Story that was MTV. I never saw it, and seeing the pictures and stuff makes me wanna see it so bad! I wish there was a way to make them play it again... :-( but I was also thinking, when you make the 'Till Death Do Us Part DVD, you should put the Love Story in there as a bonus movie or something. I would buy that in two seconds!!! anyways, Have a nice dayy!

Dave,
the comment on this about Christina, made my day! lol That's funny.

Hi All,

Re this email /virus/worm' situation.....it seems to be going to both Mac & PC users, because as I've stated, I have a Mac & this has been going on for awhile.

I've also gotten that 'quarantined' email message!

"I must say, the peeps who come up with this stuff are clever...if only they could use their intelligence for good instead of evil! ;)"

Hmmm. yes I agree, though I am having my suspicions as to WHO started it, sounds like it could be one of the pro-Perry/anti-Dave fans who occassionally come here to comment. The virus/worm 'link' might somehow be coming through this site, not the Panic Channel email.

I'm not a computer pro, I do know it started when I began posting here & corresponding with 6767 people.

Btw, this 'virus/worm' is only coming through my Yahoo email, not my main email program.

take care,

much love to everyone!

hey Dave
With cases of the scott peterson nature, I'm a big believer in "let the punishment fit the crime". When some people go to jail, it's not punishment at all. I can't remember the name of that one dude but he said "if they knew how much fun I was having in here, they'd let me out".
How can anyone give you a "hard" time about playing with Aguilera? When you jumped up halfway through that medley it was so corny it couldn't be anything but rad!
Speaking of rad, the Batman Begins trailer is very cool as is the teaser for War of the Worlds.

i love Cats..for a moment i wanted to post the entire lyric..but i won't

"Jellicle cats are queen of the nights
Singing at astronomical heights
Handling pieces from the Messiah
Hallelujah, angelical choir "

i even tried to sing the song and dance at the same time when i was younger, haha, i taped it when it was on tv once. but now i just enjoy listening to it and watch it.

I can only hope that I never see/read/hear about Axl and Dave on the same stage. But then again, who the fuck cares what I think about what Dave does or doesn't do?
The day that Dave wakes up and wonders what I'm doing during the course of my day is the day it's my business to decide what he does with his life. So.....to those who have an issue with Dave making what was probably a ridiculous amount of cash by playing while a hot latina chick writhes around him - GET OVER IT.

Right, about the spam email, it's not really a virus, just a spam. And you're right if it started round the time you started to post on here. Indeed, any email address available on the internet is more than likely to be used for spam purposes. So all you'll get are email entitled with your name or 6767 related, from people you certainly know and with an attached file (40Ko). Just erase it.

If you're on, Mail will handle easy with spam funtion, and Mac isn't affected, so it won't spread so more email like that.
Remember the more you give away your email on the web now, the more you'll get emails like those.

Finally, talkin about mac, most of you guys that know me, will know my passion o being a Mac user!

couple experience questions for mr.n

Did you learn anything from your DUI? did it teach you not to drive fucked up anymore, or did you still do it?(until the point that you soberred up)

Also, seeing as youre someone who's had dreadlocks, I was wonderring what's your opinion on the "gateway theory" that holds that marijuana use leads to doing other drugs. Do you think weed led you to other stuff or did other stuff come first? Also, as far as the full spectum of drug abuse goes would you say that marijuana is as bad or dangerous as other drugs?

Also was there ever one substance you used once and only once?

Hey everyone!
Haven't checked in in a while, have had too much work :(
What a coinsidence that Dave posted that picture today, I was watching the pics from that performance like one hour before he posted! Right here:
http://www.christinamultimedia.com/picturearchive/index.php?catID=22&subcatID=1404
Anyway, I've always found that particular performance to be quite amazing, and the ones who disliked the collaboration, well.. I can see where you're coming from but artists with talents are artists with talents. And they learn from eachother and they learn from each experience in a new field, etc. I have no problem with this collaboration. I think the song is excellent and I think Xtinas voice is a godgiven gift.

Anyway! Questions for Dave this time.. hmm... thinking, thinking.. Oh, came up with 2!

1. Dave, you have actually met Rene Russo, right? I remember an interview you did on radio with her or something, or did I dream this? I think you can still listen to it at DNIG in fact.. How was it meeting her, nervous?

2. Any new, interesting guest- appearances planned for the near future? I know you're busy with the records but maybe a quick cameo is in the plans? Any interesting offers you've had? Any dream- offers you're wishing for? Oops, that was many questions in one heehee..

Lotsa love from London to everyone!

sarah- I'm in the UK as well! The book was released a while ago at Borders, if you live in London, check the bigger ones at Tottenham Ct. Rd. or Oxford St across from John Lewis... "Hmmm, have RHCP gone pop.or has pop gone alternative?"

The RHCP are not pop!!!!! Dude, how many times have I heard that.. it's like that "are they gay?" question that just doesn't seem to go away.
They are their own thing, they are Chili Pepper! They're a chameleon... or like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. Which is precisely why they are one of my favorite bands - other than Anthony's voice maybe they don't have a specific sound where you can tell immediately that it's them.

Emma! I love Cats, the musical!
"He is quiet and small, he is black
From his ears to the tip of his tail;
He can creep through the tiniest crack,
He can walk on the narrowest rail.
He can pick any card from a pack,
He is equally cunning with dice;
He is always deceiving you into believing
That he's only hunting for mice.
He can play any trick with a cork
or a spoon and a bit of fish-paste;
If you look for a knife or a fork
and you think it is merely misplaced -
You have seen it one moment; and then it is GAWN!
(But) you'll find it next week lying out on the lawn.

And we all say: OH!
Well I never!
Was there ever
A Cat so clever
As Magical Mr. Mistoffelees!"

All I have to say about Scott Peterson is that if I was convicted of something I didn't do and sentenced to death I would be absolutely hysterical and devistated, not dead and blank.

And yeah, big deal about Dave playing with Christina. I'm not really into her stuff, but I happen to look up to her as a singer and like to sing along with her songs. She has a great voice! I think it's great that Dave is so social with fellow music makers.

Have a great night folks! The weather here in LA was perfect today, it was good to get off of work early (got my braces tightened and now I have green bands in the spirit of christmas)

Don't you worry about my ass, Mr. B. I'll be there, with my bells on and my 35yr old Shure Unidyne rebuilt bad ass mic! I just can't wait to see your Swollen Pickle :). And yea, seriously, let's see how much it is to rent just A room in there. I'll have my people call your people.

Lyn-I busted out that Swollen Pickle pedal last night and hooked it up to my amp, I can get some insane feedback-add a little delay to the mix, with a slow wah sweep and it's quite something to hear. Still trying to figure out where it fits into my playing. Of course when I did that I let the dog outside for safety concerns LMAO!!!!!

Brett
BTW:Wendy-Bird as per your review. I am always facinated by how people perceive things/events......;-)

I haven't really thought too hard about the Peterson trial. There's so many shitty things going on in the world, it's kind of mixed into the jumble. But really, when giving it some thought, I really hope he fries. I've never been close to a situation close to that, but seeing the point of view from someone who has (Dave obviously) I'm inclined to absorb their point on it a little more than the regular lynch mob something like this creates.
On a lighter note, I'm confused to what email address should be used to send to Dave. I know the one I had isn't good anymore, so what's the latest one?
Dave, it seems like every day i read you're off doing this or that. How much time do you ever get to spend at home, and does it ever seem like home isn't REALLY "home" to you?

Jezzie! you asked me about your Chinese horoscope on my blog and you are indeed the charming and attractive (metal) Rat!
I'm a spunky (metal) Monkey and Dragons and Rats are my most compatible matches.

D-dogg is a (fire) Lamb, but also a Goat depending on which horoscope you consult.

from the link in the name below:
"Lamb people have good taste and are quite charming and elegant … and rich. You may find them the center of attention at a stylish dinner party, ravishing all with incomparable wit and bon mots. The opposite is also true: they are often quite shy and sometimes prefer complete anonymity, the quiet life at home with a good book, a roaring fire, and the joys of the palate. A creative flame burns in their lives and you may find them before a canvas experimenting with bright bold genius strokes of paint. Sometimes, they tend to be pessimistic and question the meaning of life, wondering "why they dwell among green mountains." They are quite often deeply religious or spiritual and quite passionate about their work and their belief.

Nary a cantankerous bone in the Fire Lamb's body. Their lives are filled with laughter, giggles, and fun surprises. The Fire Lamb possesses an unusual combination of traits of the introvert and extrovert. Thoroughly enjoying their own company, they relish solitude but also thoroughly enjoy the companionship of others. They exude such warmth and energy, people naturally gravitate to them, while respecting their needs for privacy. Straightforward in all their dealings with people, Fire Lambs show sublime kindness because they know every person they meet is facing a difficult battle. Courageous under fire, Fire Lambs realize they need to make big changes to banish the many obstacles that stand in their way. For instance, they do not experience a smooth-sailing career. When something turns bad, Fire Lambs have to persevere to make turnarounds, and they do just that. Financial fortune peaks in middle age, but the Fire Lamb has to be careful to make that fortune last way into the autumn and winter of life, or else! But, oh my, do Fire Lambs ever experience good fortune when it comes to Love! Mama mia! Affectionate, loving, and passionate, they never part from their loved ones without loving words because they realize they might be their last. Every day is living poetry!

Famous Lamb People: Sir Laurence Olivier, Josephine Bonaparte, Margot Fonteyn, Mikhail Gorbachev, Toni Morrison, Leonard Nimoy, Pierre Trudeau, Katharine Hepburn, Boris Yeltsin"

Anyone else try to right click/save as on any of these pics and not have that option? Anyone know why? I don't know if that is some sort of intentional block or not.

I haven't gotten any of those virus/worm/spam emails but I have received the occasional mailing from the TPC mailing list so I know my subscription is valid. Very strange.

Hey Orange or anyone else that has any copies of recent shows... wanna trade? http://members.tripod.com/~tno13/list.html ;)

Spreading the joy that the weekend is almost here,

Hey Dave and everyone,

Hows it going. Dave, one quick question, where was that picture taken at?

Also, Deena, there is a html script which makes it so that you cannot copy and paste pictures, most likely because there copyrighted.

Peace,

A-ha Nick, thanks. I figured it was something like that but I wasn't sure.

Lori in PA: I just had to listen to Mitch Hedberg. I have it on now and I'm HYSTERICAL. His choice of language & his delivery.... he's so brilliant.

The koala, the frog, the donut... HYSTERICAL!

Hey All,
I personally love the Dave/Xtina collaboration. I think it's awesome that Dave gets to play with all sorts of different musicians. It shows that he is a truly talented musician that he does not limit himself to just playing with his own band or just within one genre of music.

As for the Scott Peterson thing...ugh so depressing. One would have to have a serious mental defect to purposely take another person's life. I totally get Dave's and others' opinions about the death penalty, but when I think about it I just get sad. Death sucks no matter what the circumstances and I don't believe that we as humans should have the right to kill another human being, murderer or not. So yeah, that's my 2 cents....

From the last 10 random, there was a comment about "Fade Into You". Been cruising around Typepad and found a band that has been compared to Mazzy. For those who are interested.

Go to the "Heaven and Hell" post.

David: Three days was inspired by a threesome had by Perry Farrell, his girlfriend, and an old flame, Xiola. a gorgeous song, I do agree. puts me to sleep in the most restless of nights.

David, I read that Dave did the solo for "Three Days" in one take. Is it true Dave?

Hi Deena,

"Anyone else try to right click/save as on any of these pics and not have that option? Anyone know why? I don't know if that is some sort of intentional block or not."

You are asking about the photos Dave posts here daily? I also asked the same question yesterday.....we are no longer able to download the 'header' photos/art here. That was never a problem before.

Perhaps Steve Issacs can help? I know he designed the PC site, perhaps he helps with this one too?

take care,
itanja

hey family

you know, im not too sure what line i stand on about the death penalty.
here in south africa crime is pretty high, and there is no death penalty. i think if there is a death penalty it will strick fear into criminals and perhaps help lower the crime rate. now that i think about it maybe i am pro death penalty. i mean, i actually think rapists should get the death penalty aswell! i think rape and murder are on the same level and should be punished the same. maybe im talking out my ass, but its just my opinion. i get scared here in south africa sometimes, and i think that just maybe the death penalty is what is needed to strike fear into the wicked!

thats me ranting on for you all, lol

to make the comments in this entry even more random, I gotta post about The Apprentice... so forgive me and if you don't want a spoiler, skip this post!

I was a little lost as to who I would choose at the end, but after all of it I'm glad Kelly was chosen. He had more of a nack for managing interpersonal relationships in the team then Jennifer did, and that is really important if you want things to go well and sucessfully pull the projects off. OH, and you have to make sure Trump is taken care of!! Both of them kind of forgot about him.
It's so interesting the difference gender can make in groups... the next one I'm excited about, it's a competition beetween the scholars (who have degrees) and the street smarts (with only a high school diploma).
GO STREET SMARTS!! hehe
