December, Oh yeah...

12_05_04_1943(A TPC ornament sent in by Michael Malediction. Happy Holidays!)

1. What do you remember when you see pictures like this one? Do you miss those times?

I don't miss those times, but I sure am glad I had those times.

2. Do you still have the same guitar tech as you did in the instructional video you made with the mulleted dude?

No, that is Dave Lee, he works for Frusciante now.

3. Dave, now don't be embarrassed to answer this but, well, do you straighten your hair?

Once in a while I like to break out the flat iron.

4. Dave do you think MTV will be coming out with til death do us part on dvd?~

They were supposed to, but it got pushed back because certain stores wouldn't carry it because of the title, which makes absolutely no sense to me. Isn't that a famous wedding phrase? Whatever...

5. Dave, you often mention that you have no rules on Sundays regarding eating... so, on Sundays, do you just eat more carbs or do you actually eat sugar and stuff?

As Bam would say, "Whatever the f!@K I want."

6. Are you a Christian?...or what is your belief?

I would say that I have devised a spiritual understanding of my own based on a number of philosophies. Life force, universal, the cosmos, science and just kind of living accordingly.

7. DAVE!!!! Hey, did you get my Christmas Card?

Yes, I did Jez, thank you so much!

8. Dave, Ever jam w/ Buckethead and what do you think of his playing?

Never jammed with him but his playing is just awesome!

9. Are you superstitious?

No, there is plenty of real and actual stuff to be concerned about, so I spare myself of the concerns of mirrors, black cats, umbrellas and ladders. (Though Riss always makes me knock on wood for some reason.)

10. Dave-are you still using any of your other guitars like the blue or black prs's anymore?

Not as of late, with the exception of Steve I's natural Strat, I try to stay within a white guitar only realm. I just like the way they "pop" under lights.

Stay Gold, Ponyboy...

Dave

Good morning family.

My Grandma passed away peacefully this morning. I am thankful that she had a long, full life and that she died quickly and painlessly before her Alzheimers got the best of her.

A couple of you have recently sent me IM's which I missed...I'm sorry. Please know that I have cable internet service so, it looks like I'm signed on all the time, even when I'm not. Just didn't want any of you special people to think I'm blowin you off.

"Stay gold, Pony Boy..."
Somebody watched The Outsiders this weekend... Me too. Did you catch the Sofia Coppola cameo as the "Hey Mister, ya got a quarter" girl?

I heard Holiday in Cambodia yesterday... I thought it was Warped at first because of the noodling feedback intro to both songs...But DK lives. Anyway, I got to thinking that CF should do a cover of Holiday with Scott on the vox... What do you think? Great song anyway.

Well first off, Condolences are sent along to Cori on the passing of her grandmother. I sent am IM to you, but no worries, we will chat soon.

To Tonto1% and everyone else who has visited the site so far, thank you all very much for the kind words. Some parts of the site are just too difficult to do proper justice to.. So I am really working at it, to make it right the first time and not mess up. Speaking of messing up, my spell checker has been fired on my computer for not catching the gaffe I made on the opening screen. The error has been corrected.

PEACE and RESPECT

Cori

my sympathies with your loss. I lost my Grandmother in May, and even though it was expected, and she led a full and amazing life, you cannot help but hurt at the loss of someone who gave color and memory in your life. Best to you.

Dave!

Back to Vegas, baby! Wife and I are taking a long weekend in February (18-21)...a much-needed getaway. Any chance you'll be in town that weekend? :-) Staying at the Venetian this time...pictures look nice, never been in it though.

So what's up with that natural Strat? I saw you playing that in someone's pictures from the show last week. Do you just get an itch to play a Strat once in a while? I know you used them a lot w/ the Peppers.

That sucks about your DVD man. I was looking forward to seeing it. I wonder if MTv would make it available by mail order, like online? Delivery would cost I'm sure, but hell, I'd pay!

Dave. Thanks for being so accessible to all of us fans... You mentioned Michael Des Barres singing with CF, now - is the same Michael Des Barres that played Murdoc, MacGyver's nemesis & most interesting opponent?!
If so, damn! that is cool. That is one jacked up round of six degrees of seperation to get from MacGyver to DN!

Posted by: gavin at December 6, 2004 12:27 PM

Cori, my deepest sympathies.

I lost my beloved Aunt Jo this year, she took over the role of 'grandma' since my grandmother died when all the cousins were very young. She was funny, vibrant & a very knowledgeble person. She was one of those relatives that the whole family loved. She was in her late 80s when she passed, so she did live a full life.

I like to tell the story that she even knew who Dave & Carmen were. Sometimes she didn't remember the names of bands, so she'd say; "Wasn't he in Jane's Peppers?" We got a kick out of that. My aunt kept up on everything! She remained current on pop culture & LOVED music.

Just recently 2 of my my uncles on my moms side passed away, her sisters husbands. One died suddenly, a heart attack. NO history of heart trouble, was a non smoker, was physically active & wasn't overweight. So who can predict? The other was a very heavy smoker, a 'party animal', a biker in the 60s.....he lived life to the fullest. He worked hard, as well as partied hard. He died of lung cancer.

I feel sad for my both my aunts, they were in solid, loving marriages. Very together people. They both married very young & were with the same men for over 35 years! It has to be devastating to lose your longtime partner.

Smoking IS bad, I am obviously anti-smoking. But I'm NOT preaching, just stating what I have observed.

I quit smoking many years ago, cold turkey. Many in my family have had smoking related problems, including my dad. Smoking is a BIG turn off for so many reasons besides your health.

I also realise that you can't force anyone to stop doing anything, it's decision they alone have to make. When my dad needed emergency heart surgery, he quit smoking immediately. Getting really scared shitless seemed to work for him! That was over 7 years ago.

What can I say? Enjoy EVERY MINUTE of your life & appreciate even the little things you think are insignificant.

A BIG 'Thank You' to everyone who sent out 'good vibes' to my best friend & her husband in San Francisco! Their kittie hasn't been found, but they are hopeful~!

Dave, how did you and steve hook up and form The Panic Channel?
After the mismanagement of Skycycle are you guys (or at least steve) sort of skeptical to sign with a major label?

Posted by: Noah Lang at December 6, 2004 12:44 PM

Cori~ I'm sorry to hear about your grandma. Hope you're okay.

Itanja~ Reading that makes me happy that no one in my closest circle smokes anymore. I used to smoke as a kid myself, but as soon as I hit an age where it was nearly legal for me to buy cigs, the novelty wore off. They passed a law against smoking in public places here last summer, so now a lot less people smoke because they have to go outside and it's so friggin cold here.

I still do enjoy a smoke, tho.

Hope everyone's doing well.

Cori, sorry for your loss. This has been a year of many losses for me, so I think I know what you are going through.

Dave, love the reference to The Outsiders. But for those of you saying he watched it this weekend - why don't you think he may have read it this weekend? I read it 4 times in one weekend - 17 times in one month - yes, a little obssessive - but each time, I got a little more out of it! Remember: Nature's first green is gold!

The book is much better than the movie!

So just a reminder - 19 days until hohoho comes!

Always,
me

as for a funny story- i'm glad i joined 6767 because i met emily. now, i have been hung up on an old-flame from time to time. and i showed emily his picture the other day and she told me she thought he looked incredibly homosexual and you know what, i take comfort in that!!! LOL not to offend anyone whom might take offense, but i must say, i do agree with her now that she's said it. lol exactly. there was nothing wrong with me. his loss!

anyway...thanks for the support. it means a lot! lol

girls, i'm telling you. you gotta read this book 'he's just not into you' written by a male comedian and a female writer for 'sex and the city'. it makes you really smart up about dating, guys etc. i feel so liberated now! haha i'll put it this way. i had a fun weekend and i am totally like a guy now. it's great. i'm every woman it's all in me. haha

Angel,

The movie is way better than the book because of two words- Diane Lane! The Outsiders was on A&E this weekend in Cal.
Plus, I kind of find it hard to see Dave sitting around on the john reading S.E. Hinton. Dostoevsky or Sartre maybe...
No offense, Dave.

Your in our thoughts this evening, we hope you and your Grandmother find the peace you are looking for.

Dave,

When might those of us on the East Coast be enlightened to what's happening out there? Maybe even a snippet of the TPC promo for your last show that we heard online at Indie 103.1? Feeling a little envious that we are not in SoCal anymore. The Wife, The Baby, and I will be in Seattle and Portland the 20-27 of January, any chance TPC may be?

Cheers,

Okay, here’s my pics from the Key Club. Pictures 3 - 10 I had already posted, the rest are new. (You don't have to sign in, just click "view pictures").

http://www.ofoto.com/I.jsp?c=15qk6nua.tyaxnz2&x=0&y=-r3eo68

Some thoughts on Digital Photography at a Concert:

• Digital pictures are like crack. (Or potato chips). Once you start taking them, you can’t stop. It’s so easy, and there’s always room for more. Besides, the NEXT one is going to be perfect, the one that completely satisfies you.

• The concert becomes as much a visual experience as an auditory one, instead of listening for how the vocals interact with the instrumentals, you’re looking for an interesting angle, the shot that captures the moment, the juxtaposition of light and shadow, seeing every moment in terms of photographic opportunity.

• My camera has a bit of a delay from when I push the shutter to when it actually takes the picture. Which means I had to anticipate what position people were going to be in in 2 to 4 seconds. Not always easy with a guy like Dave who tends to move around quite a bit, explains why my framing is sometimes, ah, creative. But also it resulted in some serendipitous shots -- I would look at the playback and see that I caught Dave smiling, for example.

• As for my choice of subjects, I was once again standing in front of Dave, which meant I had a hard time getting decent shots of anyone else. Steve Isaacs, somehow the angle tended to look like I was looking up his nose. Chaney, a distant blur. Perkins, forget it. He was hidden behind the drum kit , end of story. (a shame, I think he’s really photogenic).

Hope you like the pics :) (And if this posts twice it's not my fault!)

Hello Dave,
First of all i want to say that i think that you are by far one of the most beautiful men in the world. Ok now that i have made a complete ass out of myself i wanted to tell you that i have seen The Panic Channel twice at The Dragon Fly This year and i am totally and utterly enamored with you and the band my friend "Gator" sat in for steven Perkins on drums once before and i think the lead singer is also avery hot piece of Ass. I also enjoy listening to you on Indie 1031 when CampFreddy radio is on because you guys make me feel like i'm chilling in someone's living room hanging with good friends and just talking about random thoughts of course you have the hot Todd Kelly in the background. Before i finish i hope you guys come back to the Dragon Fly on any giving Tuesday Night give another kick ass show and the stick around for Rock'n'Roll Karaoke After I perform it's fun bring the whole indie gang as well as the beautiful carmen electra. Dave -

I was introduced to you before the Jane's first album at a show in SF (Wolfgang's) - JA was opening for some 80's band. I Got to see 2-3 songs before Perry put the mic through the monitor and asked the soundman if that made his butthole pucker ... boom power and lights OFF. One of the best and least known rock moments. I went with a semi-mutial friend, Pieter Kaufman.

What ever happened to that great Black Beauty you had - I heard a LONG time ago it had a pretty traumatic headstock incident - Does it still get used for recording?

Thanks for all the great muscial journeys (albums and live). I've got to see you pull off some amazing shit live - I'll be checking out TPC soon.

Big fan, big fan

First off, Cori, I am so terribly sorry to hear of your grandmother's passing. I've lost way too many friends and family members around this time of year, not that it's easy to lose someone at any time, but the holidays seem to make the blow even harder. My thoughts are with you.

I am pissed at myself.... big time. Four years ago, I gave up smoking. Just stopped, cold turkey. As I watched the twin towers fall on September 11th, I thought to myself, "where are my cigarettes?" But then I remembered that I did not smoke anymore. And I thought... if I can make it through this day without smoking, I am truly a non-smoker. And I was proud of myself. So why... after four years and tons of crap (9/11; a suicide attempt; passing of family)... did it take only a rejection from a dumb little scenester 25-year-old to cause me to start again? I mean, there's more to the story than that. Okay, maybe I'm going through some sort of weird "I don't want to be in my 30s" crisis. Anyway, I smoke again, and will you all please smack me?

Here's a question for all of you: are any of you short? And if you are, have you ever been "ignored" by an automatic door? I find that this happens to me regularly, and I'm not THAT short, plus I tend to wear shoes that make me at least 5'3"... Damn doors... how dare them treat me as if I were invisible! Maybe it's because I'm pale. Any thoughts? :-)

Posted by: NightBird at December 6, 2004 05:48 PM

Bam! I've decided he's Generation X's Peter Pan. I remember reading an interview that said he had a few "dreams" listed under a yearbook photo that were seemingly ridiculous to most people, and every one of them came true!!! It was unbelieveable.

Til Death Till Us Part: I'd LOVE to know what stores they are so I could NEVER SHOP THERE!!!! I can't tell you how mad that gets me! It IS part of the actual wedding vows! This is what's wrong with our country. ARe you kidding me?! That's what we're going to worry about?! AGUHGHGHGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!

Gavin: You beat me to it, I'm sure that's Murdock! Gotta show some MacGyver love, even with his sick mullet!

Ellen: I saw the guy that wrote that book on Oprah. I thought he was an ass. I hate the idea that he thinks he can sum up the entire world's love problems with a catchphrase. I'm sure it can be helpful, and if it gave you a healthy perspective, that's cool. I just hate the idea of a blanket statement generalizing every situation. I'm afraid that it gives people a reason to give up, stop communicating, instead of really working on things, "he's just not that in to me" rather than taking the time to understand each other as human beings. Maybe I'm being too sensitive. But I feel like, I'm a complicated person with my own "issues" and wouldn't appreciate someone casting me aside because I didn't "do" what person x said I "should do" in a given situation. I didn't like the way Oprah ate it up either, I mean, if it was ANYTHING else & someone came on there with a totally one sided riveted viewpoint, she'd be all over them like a hyena. I'm trying to suppress the word hypocrite...damn!

Really, I'm not usually so gloomy!!!

Viva la Bam! (I feel better now)

Cori, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I hope for peace for all of you.

Jez, I'm so glad your kids liked the xmas card! I whipped one up on the computer because I haven't done my real ones yet. I usually make my own art photography cards and it's quite a tedious project. I haven't started doing it yet because I'm still busy finishing up all the crocheted scarves that I'm giving as gifts. It's quite a busy time of year.

Spreading the hot chocolate,
Deena

Hi Everyone,

I've been a bit out of the loop the past few days. Running errands, visiting people, having people over, soul searching... I bought my holiday cards finally, so THAT's a start.

Cori - I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. There's not much more I can say that hasn't been said, but I'm relieved to hear that it was a peaceful passing, and that she lived a long, good life. It sucks that the ones we love have to die, and we have no control over it; all we can hope is that it happens at the "right" time.

My grandparents have all passed on, and I miss them terribly. But I think of them a lot, and I really do feel their presence and influence in my life. I hope the same for you.

Itanja - I too will send positive vibes to your friend who lost her cat. You KNOW how I feel about my cat, and I would be devastated if that happened. The "not knowing" part must be so awful. I will keep my fingers crossed and say a prayer for them.

Willow - I love the pix!

Nightbird - Good luck to you. Don't beat yourself up over the smoking thing. We all have vices, and yours could be MUCH worse. When the time is right for you, I KNOW you'll be able to quit again.

Could you tell that I smoke too? LOL. I try to keep it to a minimum, although it's not easy now that I'm home a lot more. I decided that I'm going to live it up and do everything that I want to do now, and that once I decide to get pregnant (God willing), I will stop. So I'm giving myself a deadline of about 10 months.

To answer Nightbird's question, I am somewhat short too. 5'4" to be exact. I've never been "ignored" by an automatic door, but I HAVE been ignored by automatic toilet flushers. Does that count? :)

Cheers to everyone who I may have forgotten. You're all wonderful people and you're in my thoughts.

Love,
-Denise

I'm 4'11" and a half to be exact, so I'd technically be considered damn short. Hahaha... Nah, automatic toilet flushers never miss my ass. I set that thing off when I walk into the stall. :-)

does that really happen to people...where they'll get ignored by automatic doors...i'm sorry...that's so weird lol...i'm not short (5'6) but i usually wear shoes that make me at least 5'9 so it hasn't happened to me lol...but man...that sucks.

much love and joy to all :-)

LOL @ Nightbird's comment. :)

I just want to add something about the "boy problems" issue. I haven't read "He's Not That Into You," but it sounds like it could offer some interesting insight.

I ALSO think that if you REALLY want to probe and understand the male psyche, just re-read Dave's DTTAH more closely! I'm serious.

Best of luck!

Re: Dave's book, I meant to add that he has the cojones, shall we say, to admit things that most men never would!

"He's Not That Into You," Isn't that line from Sex in the City? I miss that show :(

We used to play drinking games and try to get through one season. Every time they would say dic#, fuck, bj, fabulous,… we would all take a drink. By the end of one episode we were already pretty buzzed. Goodtimes!

Thank you all so much for the kind words, emails and IMs...it's been a long, difficult day.

Jezz...so glad the kids enjoyed the card. My dog's name is Tina Marie (Max is my Hubby). She is a Cocker mix. That pic was taken at Pismo Beach.

Goodnight Family. Thanks again.

Denise.... You are the 2nd woman to tell me to read that book today. And lucky me, my mom gave it to me last month to read to convince me that my boyfriend of 5 years has never been that into me. (Thanks, Mom... you're always there to make me feel better about myself. <----- That's sarcasm.) I haven't picked it up yet, but I may just do so. And just for the heck of it, I'm gonna re-read Dave's book. Dave, you're a guy, right? (That was a rhetorical question... I think.)

Hey Dave Can We Expect A Tour any Time Soon For Those Who Cant Make It Out To L.A.???

Posted by: Cortney at December 6, 2004 07:52 PM

If anyone is online right now, turn on VH1. They're going to do a snippet on Dave's teen metalhead years. Yeah!

Posted by: Denise at December 6, 2004 08:13 PM

I was just about to post THAT info Denise....cue in 'Twilight Zone' music......

Dave looks gorgeous as usual....I am suddenly noticing how hot Perk is looking these days! He definitely looks great without long hair.

Oh yeah....the interview is hilarious!

Dave,

You guys were amazing Thursday night, I was completely blown away. I had so much fun. The past five weeks have been really bad for me, so the show was my light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for making the night perfect, and making my month so much better.

It's a "Dave Fest"....he's also on a repeat of Howard Stern.

Deena and Cori, my loves, your responses from the kiddles are on their way, but they LOVED being called beautiful, thought that both of you were my sisters because of the hair, loved Deena's shawl, wanted to tell you about THEIR dogs, wrote you poems, liked the penguins and want to know if Deena has "enternet", and one of them drew a picture of herself, thought the dress looked too big, and wrote and then crossed out "I'm not fat"...I need to get more Panic Channel stickers, and Wendy, if you would order more buttons, I would gladly pay you for the opportunity to send them to my homies.....Deena, my kids got a big kick out of the one you sent to me...Who is "Jezz"" and where do you get "sparkly" cards?

Adina...stupid scenesters, I quit smoking for 10 years, and smoked two packs the night I left my retail job I had for 20 years...whatever...you are so beyond those poseurs...I love you

Wendy!!! Oh my God, what a fun drinking game, Ellen DeGeneres has been buzzing herself lately for over use of word "fantastic", but, I tell you, when Dave says it, it makes me ever so HOT!!!!

Emily, they saw your pic too, I think they think I only have red headed friends!!

Ohmigosh.... I just want to thank Denise for telling me to turn on VH1. I was sitting here bawling my eyes out to a song he (the BOY... such a boy) sang to me by Azure Ray (It's beautiful. If you get a chance, listen to it... it's called "November")... so I needed some comic relief. Wow... that show took me back. I was such a little metal chick... big hair, TONS of makeup. I don't think I even own a can of hairspray now. Dave was charming and humorous as usual... thanks for making me smile. :-)

Jez... I didn't send a pic with my card. Was I supposed to? Maybe I should so your kids will see that you also have burgundy-haired friends. (Yes, that's the current color.)

What kind Typepad is this one, the 6767 site? The Basic, the Plus or Pro?

Dave, I'm a guitarist at 19 years old, I would sincerely appreciate some feedback on this particular topic : I'm submersed in scales, modes, theory, you name it, thanks to a wonderful guitar teacher, can you specify what it is that really gave you an inspirational boost, personally ? I've picked it up quite fast. Thank you so much.
Cheers!

I enjoyed the VH1 show! Unfortunately, though, as I was watching it, my brother called up in need of some computer "tech support". So I got stuck talking to him and missed a lot of the audio. But I caught the overall gist.

Listening to Dave and Steve made me realize just what a little geek I was back in high school. :( I didn't really LIKE school, but I went, because I didn't know what else to do. And I did fairly well and got along with the teachers for the most part. Total nerd, at least academically.

I had all kinds of friends, including metalheads (who were called "dirtbags"), but really didn't fit into any clique. I had my own style thing going on... sort of alterna-chick meets dance-club chick. This being NY in the 80s, of course there was the big hair, acid-washed denim, and, later on, Z-Cavariccis and genie pants. Anyone remember those? LOL And I'd go dancing every weekend, religiously.

I didn't really get into rock and metal until later on in life, but I'm glad I did. I've learned that it's good for the soul to expose yourself to different styles of music and culture. Makes life interesting.

OK, enough of my senseless babbling. :)

Nighty-night,

-Denise

**slaps Nightbird-WHHAAAAPPP** then reaches for his own Camel in order to calm down from the thought of slapping someone

Welcome, Graceeee. Yes, you can ask questions here, but don't take it personally if your question doesn't get answered-it just means it was probably dumb in the first place-j/k, that's a joke

Brett, sorry for the delay, What up there, Bdog Brutha?

And how bout Larry King announcing the reunion of "The Motley Crue!!!" and asking Mick if he was jealous of Tommy? Good question, Larry!

And speaking of hypocrites, they are everywhere! How about the good ole US Military making the family of Pat Tillman wait forever to admit they lied and that Pat actually died from friendly fire! Unbelievable.
