Christmas Eve!

Playcov1Good morning!

1. Are you involved in any Aids programs?

Yes, The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation.

2. Tre's question about Prince and Carmen. Prince may have written songs for Carmen, but he wrote those two songs you mentioned back in the 80s, when she was still in high school. Still, if I had to guess Dave's answer, I'm sure he'd be very proud.

You got that right! Prince is kind of the s@#t!

3. I decided to listen to some music so flipped your solo CD in the player, and just as rexall was finishing, we drove past a chemist called Rexall.I was wondering if its a one-off chemist,or a chain.

It is a chain. The song is named after the drug store, more so, all that has gone on in it!

4. I was at the tail end of the postings yesterday, so I thought I'd ask again if anyone recorded "Bloody Mary" from the very recent CFR show?

That show will not air until the 1st of January.

5. How often do you write riffs/songs from scratch on acoustic?

Quite often. I intentionally only have an acoustic at home, so I can focus on writing songs rather than hypnotizing myself with overdrive. I save that for the rehearsal studio.

6. How come all your gigs are on weeknights?

Sunset Blvd. can be a real drag on weekends, so we try to create a stress free travel and parking environment for our audience as well as us.

7. Dave, I noticed at the show at the key club you are playing a paul reed smith....how long have you been using those guitars and what did you used to play?

I have been using them since 1991, but I have been known to rock the occasional Strat, Les Paul and even Ibanez from time to time.

8. Everytime I hear "I am writing this down" in Slow Motion Sickness it is eerily familiar. Was that line inspired by another song? Possibly from the 60's/70's?

I don't think so. Not intentionally anyway. Perhaps there is an unconcious thing going on there.

9. Do you have an idea of when/if TPC songs will be posted on-line?

"Bloody Mary" is up right now!

10. Btw, is her appearance, on that new TV show you mentioned awhile back, "Summerland", going to be a permanent one?

She is on for like 6 upcoming eoisodes.

Merry Christmas to all!

Hi Dave and everybody,

What is your favorite song from Jane's Addiction?

I love "I Would For You". It means a lot to me.

Happy Christmas to you and Carmen.

With all this fuss about David Lee Roth vs. Sammy Hagar that was going around in the last couple of years. I was kinda hoping that Van Halen would hire Gene Simmons in full make up/batwings as their singer. I know it sounds but retarded. But shit man it's rock n roll.

God what great visuals that gives me.

I think it would be the weirdest/ coolest thing. Gene is a really under rated singer.

Cheers Baby.

Dave! I just wanted to wish you, Carmen, Daisy, and everyone else a very Merry Christmas :) I hope everyone has a day filled with love, special traditions, and good times. This place absolutely rocks, & I feel so happy to be able to post this message. How many other rock stars are doing this for the peeps out there? Not many! So, thank you Dave from the bottom of my heart! Stay safe on the roads everyone. I look forward to finally unwrapping DTTAH from under the tree. Best wishes. Love, AeroGem (Karina) :D

Well...why is it that so many men hate Christmas shopping (or shopping of any kind) but continue to wait 'till the worst possible time of year ie: December 24th (when things are hectic, people are angry and parking is hell)
Like these guys don't know in November that Christmas is just a month away!
See, this is why women do personal shopping for themselves around this time of year. Because they are finished shopping for gifts and there are many sales to be found.
Well, back to shopping hell with my husband! Just hope I don't have to hear the (Urghh..There's too many people here!!! I'M NOT standing in THAT line!!!) And then there's the "disappear for a while. I dont want you to see your gift"
Ya, don't wanna spoil the surprise!! It would be MORE of a surprise to see his shopping done early!!
Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

question Dave, what ever hapened to that Ibanez you had with the Nothing Shocking twins on? is that guitar now null and void since the disbanding of J.A. It would be quite weird to see you play that guitar at say a TPC gig. whats your thoughts?

Have a wonderful Christmas Dave, with Carmen & your family!

Yes Dave, Carmen does work a lot!

Btw, is her appearance, on that new TV show you mentioned awhile back, "Summerland", going to be a permanent one? I never remember to watch it, so I was wondering if she's still on.

Carmen would actually be great in a sit-com, how about appearing on "Joey"? That show really needs A LOT of help! And Joey needs a girlfriend!

Her agent (or whoever does those things!) should inquire about sit-com work. Carmen would be great in a comedy, something with Andy Dick would be hilarious!

Have a GREAT Day!

Hello Dave!

Today I got your bok Don't try this at home for christmas and I am so happy for that!
I wanted it last year but I don't think it was out then because my brother couldn't get it. And I was soooo happy when I got it today that I even cried, haha!

So thanks for making my christmas this great, and I will enjoy reading every word out of the bok.

By the way, what kind of musikprogramme do you use to record music on your mac, if you do that? Was thinking of starting to record some guitar stuff on my mac for fun so. One hint from my guitar god would have been great.

Merry Christmas to you!

Heya everyone!
MERRY XMAS to you, Dave, and your sweet wife Tara! Two small questions:
1. Do you call her Tara or Carmen? I know I read somewhere that you rarely call her Carmen..
2. How long will the honeymoon last? I must say, I am really happy for you because you really deserve some time away alone. It's nuts that you haven't gone on the honeymoon yet, since you got married over a year ago.. And I totally agree, Carmen is working extremely hard- she does some kind of appearance on TV or in movies like every week. And you work real hard yourself! Two bands recording albums at the same time? Writing music and still update this site on a regular basis? Wow, I hope you are giving yourself credit for it!

Lotsa loove to everyone! Can't wait to get home to Sweden tomorrow, I'm tired of London... :)

Dave,

Wow, Bloody Mary is really, really fucking killer. The song and video alike. I always knew Steve had a phenomenal voice from listening to the live clips on the TPC site, but, daaaamn is he workin it on that song! Chaney's bass line is so heavy and unbelievably present, along with Perk's drums...wow. And of course, all heaps of praise to you on the guitar work, amazing as always.

Question: Does the band get together to write lyrics for the songs, or is it all Steve? I couldn't help but think of Mary from Don't Try This At Home when listening to the lyrics for the song. Is it about her, influenced, or just total coincidence?

Peace,
- Sean

Hey Dave, i know you've stated in interviews that you like to take a "less is more" approach when it comes to guitar playing. But i think sometimes you should show off a little and just go for straight MORE.

We've heard you hold back. So every once and awhile you should just pull out a blazing solo from your speed metal days. It'll be fun for the audience (and you) rather than masturbatory on your part.

Just my 2 cents. i can't remember how many times i thought "this would be a great time for dave to completely kill us with a solo"

Hey Mike, I'm in Queens too. Don't think we had a chance to meet yet?

Here's something that will eventually lead to a question for Dave...

Yesterday while shopping, I picked up the Electro Addiction tribute to Jane's. I also know that there's a string quartet tribute to Jane's album. While finding the links on Amazon to show you guys, I read the review and listened to the clips of the Electro album. What a disappointment. Luckily I saved the hassle of trying to return something I've opened. (and yes, Dave, I think it's a common woman thing to buy presents for yourself while shopping...)

I will surely seek out the string quartet album, as the clips on the site do not disappoint. So here's the question for you Dave... do you get asked permission from these people to record these albums? Especially in the Electro Addiction case, I think they should not be granted the right to butcher your songs.

And here's the links for you guys if you're interested:

String Quartet Tribute to Jane's Addiction: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000086B9O/qid=1103933590/sr=1-12/ref=sr_1_12/102-8629393-6527341?v=glance&s=music

Electro Addiction Tribute to Jane's Addiction: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00028HOH2/qid=1103934160/sr=1-14/ref=sr_1_14/102-8629393-6527341?v=glance&s=music

Additionally, what do you think of Incubus, Dave? I know you did Lolla with them, and I love their music as well.

Couldn't wait and opened my "present" early.

You just blew my frigging mind. Holy s*#t!!!

Well done lads! I can't wait for you guys to hit the streets. If Capitol doesn't hook up with you guys, they're idiots!

Rock is suffering a bit right now in its process cycle. Put it back where it belongs Dave! This is the right vehicle, at the right time!

Let us Agents get to work in 2005! We are hungry and ready!

Cheers,

Mike C.

P.S. Enjoy your vaction/honeymoon

Merry, Merry, Joyous X-mas to my fantabulous 6767 family!

The video was the highlight of my day today, especially since I went last-minute X-mas shopping in Yonkers. If you have any chance of getting shot on X-mas Eve doing X-mas shopping, your chances are quite high in Yonkers.

Anyhoo, Theresa, I have next week off as well, and a 6767 gathering would be a welcome social activity for me, as I will be needing to break away from the daytime soaps and Oprah. Also, I just used the String Quartet Tribute to Garbage on my MySpace page the other day. Some of those are so funny; others are truly beautiful. I don't think I came across the stringy Jane's... I will have to check it out.

Final thought of the day: boys are dumb (except for the boys of The Panic Channel)

Posted by: NightBird at December 24, 2004 06:56 PM

^Hey, I resent that. I can be pretty damn dumb when I want to be.

Merry New Year and a Happy Christmas to you all. This place is cool. Thank you all, again, to everyone that prayed for my Mom. I got to go to church with her tonight, which is something I didn't think would happen just a month ago. I go to church religiously-every Easter and Christmas, like clockwork. I also wash my truck twice a year, every time I get a haircut, whether it needs it or not. Happy Holidays, peeps!

Posted by: Lyn at December 24, 2004 07:20 PM

Oh, I get it. You mean boys that are actually in the band, The Panic Channel? Uh, ok, I read that incorrectly. See? Told you I could be dumb. Afterall, I was born with a tail.

Posted by: Lyn at December 24, 2004 07:23 PM

Adina!!! Hey!!! I love you, and yes, boys are muy stupido, tails and all...I keep thinking of that scene from Jerry MacGuire, before he comes in to tell Renee she completes him...when she says she agrees that men are the enemy, but, she still loves the enemy...Also, remember in Dave's book, where he quoted Duff's take on finding a mate, that they are all going to have problems, the trick is to find the hottest one, and deal with the rest. So, I have a guy with phone issues,he doesn't answer his phone, and I am a girl who has tremendous mistrust issues...we've agreed to give it a go anyway...

In the end, we really got to be able to be happy alone, before we can be happy together, n'est ce pas?

Dave, I'm dead last with the comments, do bare with me. I'm gettin sick of scales and such, and I feel like i'm stronger between the 1st to 4th frets, and 9th to 12th frets... with this void making itself apparent in the middle. what to do ?

hey Dave! What do you know about this? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000086B9O/qid=1103933590/sr=1-12/ref=sr_1_12/102-8629393-6527341?v=glance&s=music
There should be string quartett arrangements to Jane's songs, but I got no idea how good the arrangements are? Would be interesting to teach to my teenage violin and viola students...
Happy christmas day to all of you...
now I'm going to get my christmas present. I will post later, so you can hear my opinion... Bye

MERRY CHRISTMAS DAVE !

I'd like to wish a big birthday wish to Mr. Margaritaville, Jimmy Buffett! All Parrotheads celebrate this day, as the salty one is 58. Man sells out concerts everywhere he plays, still. Has his own little empire going on there, but God Bless him! Keep on keeping on, Mr. Buffett!

Let's see, it's someone else's birthday today, ummm, Oh, I know, Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ today, he's 2038! Savior of our souls through his death, and subsequent resurrection, Jesus teachings are known the world over. Keep up the great work JC!

Merry Christmas, Mr. Potter!
Merry Christmas, old Building and Loan!
Merry Christmas, Bedford Falls!!!!

I love Jimmy...ok, Christmas with the family, round two...I spent last evening with my sis and her loved ones, I am off to San Diego to be with my brother and his...oh, yeah, and watch the Shaq/Kobe game with my boy!!

Kirsty and Emma, and Itanja and others, I expect your Christmas cards will be waiting for my cherubs when I get back, Fear not, they will still be celebrating, since Los Dias de los Reyes...Three Kings Day is a big thing in my neck of the woods, I usually by them the cake with the baby baked inside, and also read a story called Too Many Tamales, where the children eat through a dozen tamales to find their mother's ring...all good, you will be hearing about it in THEIR letters to you..

Cori...yes, weren't they precious, I especially liked Jessica's poem about Little Miss Muffett, may I tell her it did the trick?

Dave, Steve, Stephen, Chris....thanks for the Christmas present..in the words of Oliver...Please, sirs, may I have some more?

jezebel(Camp Freddy Radio tonight....!!!Hi Deena)

Posted by: jezebel at December 25, 2004 08:10 AM

Jezz...please do tell her. When I return to Puerto Vallarta, I will be sending those beautiful children a little note answering all their questions.

Dave...I'm sitting here watching Bloody Mary...repeatedly...when I should really be peeling potatos! lol (I am so stoked to have this video...I LOVE IT!!!)

This wonderful gift of yours is gonna get me in hot water! ;)

OK Fam...guess those damn spuds aren't going to peel themselves :D
