Camp Freddy Friday

SetlistThe show last night was so much fun! Thank you all who came out, it was so great to see everyone at the show and hanging out at the Rainbow after. Such a little vibe, community and special family. It all reminds me of a time when music and bands were really for the people and not the public, if that makes any sense. You know, when something new is kind of your own. We are still finding our way and we are having a blast doing so. I was out way too late for me. Camp Freddy is playing tonight and I am so tired, but I am still running on adrenaline. We GOTTA book more shows soon. The above picture is what our set list was supposed to be, but Isaacs forgot it at home. (Ours wasn't blurred, however.) He ended up writing them out himself moments before the gig. What a trooper. Thanx to everyone who has posted pics and to FreAk for the awesome cover. I think it is our first ever. I would love to stay and type, but I have to get down to soundcheck for Camp Freddy with my bandmate Billy Morrison from Doheny, who by the way, killed it last night. He put together an awesome night along with Indie 103.1. If it wasn't for Terri Nunn, I would blow off soundcheck, but she is so damn adorable that I can't let a moment go by without taking advantage of her presence. (My wife gets it, BTW, it's all good.) Have a "delicious" day, as Simara would say, and I will meet some of you as we trudge the road of happy destiny. May God bless you and keep you until then.

D

P.S. A Rolling Stone story.

The show last night was amazing. TPC rocked the house. I looked around and people were really getting into it. It was nice to see the guys play once again. After the show, downstairs was amazing. Meet all of the guys and said hi to Wendy. Looking forward to the next time. Hope everybody has a great day and weekend. Dave thank you for being you.

Abby and Maria I take it you 2 found eachother. Thank you for the calls. So how did the VIP thing go? And the Rainbow Room?

Brett thank you for stopping by to pick up the food. It was so nice to meet you. I'll shake your hand twice the next time I see you to make up for yesterday. I didn't want to give you what I have.

I do have some SUPER tight shots of everyone from the Dragonfly that I'll post soon tho. Thanks again for the props. Definitely catch you next time. Once again, amazing show Dave. You guys rock! i am so a terri nunn fan...LOVE LOVE LOVE berlin and the song "take my breath away" that is until Jessica Simpson butchered it...but i digress...very envious of the show i missed...come back to NYC DAVE!!

i'm glad teh show rocked...and i love the whole grassroots vibe of this thing, building from the ground up...it makes me feel superior to other people in a way that i've been involved from the start (you 6767 people MUST share that same excitement)...can't wait to see what you and TPC guys come out with next...brilliant work thus far!

Dave -

Beautiful thoughts - we are all happy for you and the success. You deserve it all so very much. I agree with you and Em; I think we all feel so involved in the grassroots birth of a band, and not a commercial sellout band, but one made by and for the love of the music and the appreciation of intelligent, dedicated, eclectic and diverse fans who respect all of the members of our community. I gotta hope that when you set out to do that, the success will come on its own. We all feel like proud parents and good friends.

"Such a little vibe, community and special family. It all reminds me of a time when music and bands were really for the people and not the public, if that makes any sense."

Dave,
That makes all the sense in the world.
Should TPC become a household name, hopefully you guys won't forget those of us who were there from the beginning. That will not happen because I know that you guys will always remember us.

Later,
Mike from NYC

Very nice RS article!

Dave - it is so exciting to have been here from the very first day you reopened this site, to have gone through the anticipation of hearing each detail of the new band, to trying to guess what the name would be and then watching it all unfold...and now word is really getting out there...I am so exicited for you and proud to have had a front row seat. And, just think...this is only the beginning of what I'm sure will be one hell of a ride!

Congratulations to you and all of the members of TPC!

THE PANIC CHANNEL Dec. 2nd

A Review of the Show

Drove like a bat out of hell from SD (3:30) to LA only to have a top speed at times of 3mph on I-10 West Santa Monica. The last twenty miles to the show felt like I was driving to Mars. Realized people with expensive cars do not let you change lanes in LA (more on that later.) Talked to the 6767 crew on the way up to ease the tension and listened to the live broadcast. Prior to that picked up food in Oceanside for the show (Misty-It was a pleasure to meet you). Arrived on Sunset Strip and went to the parking lot. Gave my five bucks and the guy said park anywhere! SO I did. I park in between a huge Black SUV and a White Van. The parking attending is freaking out saying I should back my truck in so I could pull out easier (back end of truck first). Note to self after driving 4 hours and desperately waiting to stretch! As I am backing up (Holy Shit its Dave’s Hummer). It was funny, a little nerve racking but I thought I should share. The parking lot attendant then moved Dave’s truck to the front. Note to self-“I park great What? my Toyota Tacoma is not cool or something to be parked next to Dave's truck LMAO! Crossed the street and talked to a photog for Metal Hammer. Got in line, dropped off the food and went in and was greeted by the Lovely TPC Ladies & Lynn. I was overwhelmed by Hollywood’s finest Rockers representing. It was sensory overload; the musical talent alone in the place could move a mountain. It was so cool to see so many rock stars showing support for each other.
The Tints rocked and the crowd loved it. Doheny came in and they were awesome. Billy’s amps were on fire, pumping out bass thumping riffs that hit you in the chest. Watched the Photog guy have a few verbal scraps with another Photog guy over a camera angle? Went outside and had a smoke, meet Billy and he is a great guy. Called Jezzi (you were missed by all!) Raced in and saw the man of action Phil/and the other G-tech do there thing setting up everything. Phil-I give you a lot of shit about wanting your job but you do your thing very well-respect!

Enter the Panic Channel

Let me say that I saw the first show, missed the second, but the third was the charm and well the overall sound, vision, solo’s, riffs, choruses, shifts, the ups and downs, stage presence was out of this world. I gave a compliment on the first show and said it was so good I didn’t even turn on the radio or CD player when I drove home. (I have my last nights compliment for the TPC guys but it’s at the end of this.) Dave rocked the wah-wah pedal as if Hendrix was speaking from the dead! Perk was on it. Chris had the bottom thump going strong! Steve voice was so powerful! The textures of the songs shifted, changed gears, slowed down, and at times it was full speed ahead. Sonically, these guys are going somewhere off the beaten track, and it is so refreshing. Highlights were Unholy, Loophole, She won’t Last, Bloody, Ashes (Holy Shit!-Always rocks my world) and the eagerly awaited N1 which = Night One. N1 has to be the most interesting, sonic joy ride I have heard in a long time. Screeching accented riffs, soft rhythms……I can’t do this justice here, just amazing.

After the show hung out with the TPC Ladies, got into the VIP lounge and meet Steve-“he actually knew my last name, I was star struck/humbled, then quick talk and a pic. Finally, after years of waiting I actually met Dave/got a pic. Thanks Dave! I was speechless! Had the luxury of having drinks repeatedly spilt on me and the TPC ladies in the corner by the waitress, however as embarrassed as she was, I complimented her on how fabulous her shoes were (they really were fabulous!) We were comped how many drink 8 or 9? I lost count.

The TPC group/crew left for a bite to eat at the Rainbow Room because all of us were starving. We ran into the post show crowd. Steve came over and talked to us about a lot of different things and it was great. He is really personable, easy going and the conversation ranged from guitar amps, to Nathan Larson, to Jeff Buckley to plans for project P. Steve-I had a blast-Thank you! Said my last goodbyes and headed back to SD. I got back into town around 4 AM.
My ears are still ringing………………………………………………………………..

Ok, here it is………….. my compliment to the guys.

“Steve, Dave, Chris & Perk-They are pushing the “Sonic envelope at Godspeed!!!!!

Thanks to Abby, Wendy-bird (official photog of the night), Blue Lizard, Sarah, Mortisha8, Misty, Brian, Lynn (have a safe flight back), Annie, Jezzi, Tex (got your shirt), Blanca?, (anybody missing I’m sorry) and everybody else, especially the bands involved, Steve/Dave/Perk/Billy M -103.1 for being what radio should be! & of course the VIP waitress!

god. damn. you don't know how much I wanted to come last night... but I'm so glad that you all had such a fantastic time. and Dave, even if you're totally wired, get some sleep, man, or else you'll be completely sparko when you're meant to be awake!

seriously, man... come to England. I will even set you up in our spare room if you really, really can't find a place, I'll even insist my grandpa leaves the heating on all night so you can't see your breath when you wake up in the morning (no shit, brr)!

anyways... I should probably go to bed soon because I'm really tired, but I'm going to be hypocritical and stay up... aha. this is why you don't listen to the advice of 15 year old girls, Dave, it has nothing behind it (;

with love,

I'm glad the ones who had an oppertunety to go to the show had a good time.

I went to see the object of my attraction(or not)'s band play today, and I fucking missed it. Only caught the last song. Which was pretty miserable, as my friends ditched me to go somewhere more interresting and I had to crawl my way to the venue and back on my own. On a different note, I don't actually fancy the guy anymore. Thank God.

Hope you are all well!

Hey Dave, isn't Chaney doing something with Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters (Coattail Riders)? If so, I suggest a Coattail Riders/Camp Freddy tour. That would kick so much ass, none of us who would witness it would be able to sit down for a week.

Dooooooo it.

helloooo to all... now where do I begin?

Itanja- no medium shirts, just huge large ones... sorry girl, we'll have to hold out until they become available/sell them online. Brett got Laura one.

So what I thought was a wristband into the radio show was actually a VIP band for the venue, so I didn't get to see or hear any of camp freddy radio but didn't mind at all as we had the access to the vip bar after 8:30
Lyn had an extra wristband that I got then blanca gave Abby one.. and eventually Wendybird and Brett were also let in.. woohoo!

the highlights of the show:

-Seeing Chad, Flea, and John of the Red Hot Chili Peppers in support of the Tints. John was right up front rocking out... I couldn't stop smiling when I saw that. Bless him.
Those girls sounded great! Clara is a madwoman on those drums! A little more movement and fun on stage, and those girls would have it totally going on!

-Billy Morrison smiling down from the stage at me. Doheny was great! I really liked the acoustic song.

- Our boys the Panic Channel and the Project P song Night 1. It's a longer epic type of song that takes you on a ride all over the place, you've just got to hear it... I was very happy to hear Outsider again, that song is the sh*%!

- The crowded VIP room and having Dave come over to us. also afterwards having some grub at the rainbow and having Steve I. come over to hang and talk with us. And of course, the hug I got from Dave! Thanks D-dogg! :0)

and my lovely fellow panic agents! It was awesome seeing you all again and meeting Brett! So glad you made it down, bro. I have to say what you do at work is very admirable. hats off...

Abby, you're my girl, thanks so much for the ride home!
Happy to see us all back and accounted for :)

Misty, I was so bummed you couldn't come.. sucks to be sick, hope I didn't wake you up or anything when I called? Thanks for getting in touch with Abby to get back to me. We all need to exchange #'s.

A VERY special thanks to Lyn and Jezzie for the VIP pass hookup. Got some Carona spilled on me twice (poor waitress was having bad luck with that last night), but my feet got a much needed rest!

My parents are arriving on Sunday so I have a lot of preparing to do... not sure I'll be able to post much.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

-Peace-

your very tired Maria who has been running around all week and going on a few hours of sleep.
(I will always be the outsider)

Posted by: mortisha8 at December 3, 2004 08:03 PM

Thanks mortisha8, I thought you didn't see my post, because I got back to the board about 20 minutes after you asked what size I needed. lol

I can wait, a Large is fine for sleeping, but I want to be able to actually wear it outside.......a make people wonder...."what does that logo mean??"

Glad everyone had a great time, I can't wait for the band to hit NYC and for their new music to be released!

Thanks again~!

Dave,
have you heard of a band called Muse? Have you ever met/played with them? If so, how was it? If not, you should definatly check them out! Every one... check them out! They are really really awesome and totally rock...I recomend Hysteria, or Unintended, or really anything they've done.

Saviour Dave,

Thanking you muchly for the advice you gave me on 'letting God in your life' I have done so and things are so much more simple and enjoyable, I have a native macedonian orthodox cross tattoed on my shoulder and now it represents what i call "Power of Man, he who has sinned and betrayed once self is reborn!' , reborn to creat love, health ,space and sound!....(sorry to sound so churchy)

References to Tool and Led Zeppelin in your debut-performance review? I hope no one at work minds as I jump out of my chair shouting "Fuck, Yeah!!!!!!"

Dave's explanation of how it feels to be doing this, is pretty much exactly what turned me into a bloodthristy fan of live, original music. Even from my "local" scene. In a way it splintered from hearing stories about Jane's early days in LA. I kind of regretted that I never got to see that, and I guess in some ways I went searching for it on my own. I did find it, and alot more....but that's a whole other story...lol
Anyway, I'm glad to hear that Dave's feeling it and in turn we can, too. Now only if it were on the EAST COAST!!!! I can't wait!!! I'm starting to Panic ;)

Oh, and to be just out at a show where John Frusciante is in the front rockin' out....? Heaven!

dave, wonderful show last night. i was so excited to see the chili peppers hangin there, as well as some incubus guys. Hey i dont know if you know but help me out. There was a guy there with this huge beard, i swear he looked like john frusciante if you took the beard off, but it wasnt. I know he's famous because every pepper went up to him and chatted with him, and people were takin pictures with him. WHO WAS THAT???
