12 Days? Huh?

Dsc08808

Billy and I taped our New Year special last night. Thank you to everyone who called in. Sometimes, I think we push the envelope of what's cool and what's not. We went through a series of calls, spoke to a stripper who we got to pull over and masturbate on the phone and continued our "Girls From The Back of the Weekly" segment. We were going nuts. Almost like, since it isn't live, nobody will hear it. Then we go to the phone. A girl named Chloe called and asked for us to play Green Day. She had the sweetest little voice. We asked her how old she was and she said, "11". Awwwww!!!!! Ouch! We have 11 year old listeners? It dawned on us that maybe we are starting to go a little too far. Maybe we should lay off the coffee and stick to programming music. I think we played like 3 or 4 songs and just yapped for the rest of the time. The good news is I debuted a Panic Channel song called Bloody Mary. First show of the New Year. Billy and I both thought we were taping a New Year's Eve show and my plan was to get the band on the show in 2004, but when we started our show, we found out we were taping for New Year's Day. Oh well, so TPC kicks off the New Year instead of closing 2004. Perhaps that is even better.

So, as I said before I got my shopping all done. Carmen and I went out and hit the stores on Tuesday. As someone here pointed out, and I was unaware of this, girls tend to shop for themselves. It turns out that the bags Carmen brought home with us that day, contained a lot of stuff... for her. She still has shopping to do and guess who gets to go with her? One of her girl friends? (Great idea!) No. That would be me. Here is the prayer I said to myself and God on Tuesday: "Lord, grant me a new experience of this endeavor. Allow me to enjoy myself and be of service to my wife today." Hey, it worked on Tuesday... Why not today?

Still working on the Christmas gift for everyone on the mailing list. Have a great day and welcome back to reality, Steve Isaacs. 12 days without the Internet. 12 days of Christmas. Wait. How is it 12 days of Christmas? I never really understood that.

"How did you meet Billy Morrison?"

I honestly do not remember, but I sure am glad that I did.

Hey Dave,Im a big fan of yours (and your wife's)...yadda yadda yadda.Erm, last august my family and i were driving from Miami to Boston in a rented RV. I decided to listen to some music so flipped your solo CD in the player, and just as rexall was finishing,we drove past a chemist called Rexall.I was wonderin if its a one-off chemist,or a chain.Probably seems like a mundane question to you,but i have no idea,as I'm from England, and just wanted to see how weird a coinkidink it was.Cheers.

the 12 days of christmas... well, there's 6 days until new years', and then it's Twelth Night on the 6th January, which is when you're meant to take the decorations and whatnot down. (don't worry, I had to have this explained a few times before I understood...)

in case you don't appear again before christmas day, have a good one! :3

Hey everyone. Woah, the snow is blowing like mad outside my window. Looks like I'll be stuck inside for a bit. Now a young dude from the landscaping company is shovelling the walk. God bless him. Anyone wanna hit me up on MSN? aerogem@hotmail.com Just let me know you're from here, otherwise I'll think you're only messaging me to engage in some unsavory activity. Have a great day!

"Sometimes I think we push the envelope of what's cool and what's not....spoke to a stripper who we got to pull over and masterbate on the phone...." I can imagine what "Girls From The Back of The Weekly" is about! lol

Dave , the CFR is VERY cool & stuff...it's ALWAYS great to actually here ROCK MUSIC still being played on the radio! But PLEASE don't turn it into 'The Howard Stern Show' ...a constant barrage of non-stop airhead strippers & wanna-be porn stars.

There's a BIG difference between interviewing Jenna Jameson (who's always interesting & funny) to having a semi-retarded 18 year old on who just wants to show Stern her breasts & be 'evaluated'! This one naked chick he had on a few weeks ago was just plain sad, she was obviously 'mentally disabled'.

Stern's show used to be extremely entertaining & yes, it's a cliché to say...."it could be funny without all the 'smut'", but he is funny without all the T&A. His show has been on auto pilot for the last few years.

PLEASE, PLEASE....keep Camp Freddy Radio about the MUSIC! I'm no prude but the 'hot chick' talk IS getting redundant. Boys will be boys I guess! lol

Merry Christmas to you & Carmen~!

Hello Family!

Here is wishing everyone the Merriest of Christmases!

Dave, I can feel for the shopping problem. Being a woman, I can shop, but hate it. Internet makes it all so much better. But then you have what happened to me on Sunday - my grandmother needed me to go and buy gifts for my parents! Mom did her shopping for everyone else - and no one took care of her and dad. I HAD to go shopping Tuesday night. Sorry mom, hope you like Wal-Mart junk! (I used to work for Wal-Mart, I know junk when I see it!!)

HOHOHOHOHO

Always,
me

Happy Holidays,

Wow, You gotta wonder which scenario has more value. The fact that a man has the power encourage a woman to pull over her car (she must have been the one who almost took me out) and play with herself or the fact that a veteran musician is an inspiration to 11 year olds? I guess they both asked for it; the gift that keeps on giving. Cool.

Be well,

SR

Beautiful People,

Lyn, I got your call late last night (voice-mail) but the problem was that I lost my cell phone yesterday, so there was no way for me to call you back. I called a few times last night to 103.1 while I was at wok, but I couldn’t get through. Oh, well.... BTW: Lyn, I dig “the chorus part of your idea that you asked Steve about (the possibilities are endless on that one). I hope I can get my guitar/recording software in line.

Today is my last day at work before I run for the hills- LOL! out of my office for a much needed holiday vacation. So I won’t be back for awhile.

So with that said.........

I want to sincerely wish all of you (Abby, Jezebel, Mortisha 8, Blue- Lizard, Wendy-bird, Lyn, Annie, Scott P, Skot, Ylais, Reckless Princess, Deena 13, Rantz, Snowhite, Cori, Mike C/NYC?, Itanjia, Kyle, Steve L, White-Pony, FReaK, Tex, Misty, TPC -Dave, Steve, Chris, & Perk, TPC Guitar Techs Phil & Mark, and everybody else/6767’s a very Merry Christmas/Holiday! I hope you are all surrounded by your loved ones/family!
Be safe and be well!!!!!

Merry Christmas Dave, I hope that you and Carmen have a great vacation together. This is going to be the year of TPC, and I can't wait to see it grow.

Hey Daveee, Um yeah I do that same exact thing and when I was talking about shopping it didnt even come to me. Yes some girls do, or maybe most. Ya cant help it, I mean you wanna shop for others but when you have the money and see some adorable stuff, what can I say, you gotta get it for yourself. ( yeah yeah we'll get to the people that we need to shop for, just after I get these cute shoes.) As you can see, as Carmen was demonstrating that... it's what we do. I'm sure Carmen will agree with me ;-) anyways I hope all is well, have a nice dayy!

dear EVERYONE...
My most sincere happy smily upliftment thoughts goto EVERYONE here, whether i've had textual differences with anyone here or not, you'll always know where I stand, I'll always say what I think and what I feel, ...in cyberspace, or in the real world...i am certainly a defender of the greater good, being right is not my need, ...that we all roll together always is!....I just want to give myself in this life, the best way i can, being encouraging, or 'calling you(plural) out" so I hope that i have done the same for (all?...some?) of you as you have done for me here, ...and that connection i try to make is always with my hearts' best intention.

I love this community, and the man who has graciously brought it to us, and given us sooo much room to help create it with him.. (in a stricktly heterosexual way dave, mind you :p lol, you are a handsome bugger though )

This place is, and has been really great, all interactions, good reads, good laughs y'all, really enjoy them...

Brett~ thnx for the shout out mang
don't think we'z had talks yet, so thanks...
really good of you

I wish you ALL, "All the Best!", ...however you celebrate this season. We're all riding on this planet together, ...and love, compassion, giving, sharing, understanding, and open communication (amidst other things that I've missed) is the most valuable fuel-tool to a collective positive future, i think

"Dave , the CFR is VERY cool & stuff...it's ALWAYS great to actually hear ROCK MUSIC still being played on the radio! But PLEASE don't turn it into 'The Howard Stern Show'"

Itanja- i'm with you on that one, sister!
i was going to ask about the "Girls From The Back of the Weekly" segment when I called in.
How sweet, an 11 year old! They're going to want to hear themselves and will probably be listening when it's aired!
I can see it now, "mommy, why's that women breathing so hard and making those strange sounds?" Usually by 11 kids have already learned about the birds and the bees though. and I don't think kids under 10 really listen to the radio much at all, at least not without some kind of supervision.

The parents can always turn the radio off if they hear their kids listening to something they find is inappropriate, so I say air it all. I think the best thing any radio station can do is capture humanity at its best and worst. There's really nothing to hide as everyone will eventually find what the reality of humanity is. People are funny, nice, smart, sexy, horny, sad, obnoxious, and sometimes downright scary or ignorant! When you let the people make the show what it is, it's a lot more interesting than just listening to song after song being played. Not to say that playing music is bad, there should definitely be music in there to remind us of the primary focus of Camp Freddy and Indie. It also gives the guys time for a break from the phones.

Hey,

I could be mistaken, but doesn't the 12 days of Christmas refer to advent?

As far as the um, racy CFR show...I'm not a prude or anything but that kind of stuff is not really what I want to hear when I turn on my radio. I remember when I was in middle school and my parents restricted us from listening to a certain station. I remember feeling sad because I liked the music that they played. I personally find Howard Stern really repulsive in just about every way. I agree with Itanja, steer clear of that kind of "entertainment." It should be about the music, not about strippers, porn stars, sex...etc

i think the 12 days of x-mas is calculated from the time of the winter soltice (21st) to new year - that way the christians could steal all of the pagan holidays in one go. i dunno really - i'm only guessing.

hope 2005 is the best for all!

Don't get me wrong, I am LOVING the in-between-song banter of Dave, Dono, Billy & their guests. I am not asking the guys to stop talking or having guests. Just keep the show about music, not about some sleazy chicks who need free publicity & are willing to do ANYTHING to get it...a la the Stern show.

I loved the repeat this past Saturday, with Courtney talking about the clubs in England etc. Stuff like that IS exciting, not some anonymous chick masterbating over the phone. Not every musicians 'road story' has to be about something sleazy. Hearing about the other musicians they've worked with, fought with etc....that info is what makes CFR so informative & entertaining.

When Matt Sorum comes on, giving a 20 minute monologue about "all the hot chicks in South Beach" (and wherever else he meets chicks while on the road)...my interest totally wanes!

As a fan of Dave's (as all of us here are) it's pretty damn X-citing to hear Dave& the guys actually host a weekly radio show, why spoil it with the same type of crap the 'shock jocks' are doing? These guys have been working musicians for many years, their 'road stories' have to be about more than just sex.

The movie & TV reviews are cool, Carmen calling in with the weather & telling Dave about the DVD rentals they have planned for Saturday nights, is fun.

There are so many other topics to hit upon than "hot chicks". We already have too much "shock radio", after 20 years, it's getting real tired. The ability to 'shock' isn't there anymore anyway.....to turn CFR into that dime-a-dozen crap, would really be quite awful.

I wish Dave would do a radio version of "Movies & Crap"! Or how about a weekly "Fashion Report"? A CFR version of "Mystery Science Theater" with the guys reviewing music, while talking over it.....much like they did on MST. That would be hilarious!

There are so many other things the guys could do than just discuss "hot chicks" non-stop. If you need a new producer...here I am!

I better write this fast before my boyfriend kicks me off his computer (isn't this the season for sharing?lol!)since you asked Dave, I have been wanting to say soemthing for awhile about camp freddy show topics, from jenna whoever talking about her bloody period to reading the sex adds in the back of the weekly it's all a turn off.and with your hot wife Carmen why do you need all that?I agree with the other people that siad to focus on the music and I think we all want to hear what's going on in your handsome head just not that.love you Dave!happy holidays!have a good honeymoon!

Posted by: janesotheraddiction at December 23, 2004 04:31 PM

Umm, with all due respect folks, CFR doesn't pretend to be deep. Dave said "It dawned on us that maybe we are starting to go a little too far". The stripper thing was not an indictative part of CFR, not for as long as I've been checking the show. And the Howard Stern references are ridiculous. If anyone has actually listened to the whole show, it's usually Dave and Billy just chatting and playing tunes, and although I've heard colorful guests, it's the banter between Dave and Billy that makes the show so appealing, IMO, along with kick ass songs. It's also a chance to show another side of Dave Navarro-the man is actually damn funny and if he hadn't been so gifted in the musical department, his wit alone would've assured success in anything he chose to do. So, let's climb down off of those soap boxes, k? Thanks!

Hi Dave & Family,

First, I'm sorry to hear about some of your losses, whether it's a loved one or a job. My deepest sympathies are with you.

As far as the "sleaze factor" of CFR, I'm on the fence about it. I can see how the "hootchies" can attract a certain sector of your audience base, and provide some kind of entertainment value. But my own personal opinion is that you are witty and interesting enough without having to resort to "shock" tactics. If it happens naturally and organically, that's one thing, but it's not something that you guys need to actively seek out. Just my 2 cents... :)

And I just have a comment re: Tre's question about Prince and Carmen. Prince may have written songs for Carmen, but he wrote those two songs you mentioned back in the 80s, when she was still in high school. Still, if I had to guess Dave's answer, I'm sure he'd be very proud.

From Carmen's perspective, she's one lucky lady to have come in contact with both of those amazingly gifted, sexy men.

Cheers/love,
-Denise

I just ran across something that is probably old news to some, but if it isn't, and you haven't heard it, you HAVE to check out 4 Non Blondes cover of "Misty Mountain Hop". I heard this and was blown away. Looked into it to discover that the insane guitar that I was hearing was our own DN:) This is on my top 5 list of greatest covers, and I am a HUGE fan of almost any kind of cover.

Greetings,

Unfortunately, I missed CF Radio - Did anyone copy "Bloody Mary"?

Thanks,
Alan

I'm also not impressed with sensationalism for its own sake. Call me jaded, but a chick stripping or playing with herself isn't all that shocking anymore. I just don't think anyone's cared for about a decade whether or not Stern's controversial...he's a prime example of over-saturation. I know he's got a core audience, and he's laughing all the way to the bank, but really...same shit, different year.
On the other hand, that kind of 'entertainment' sells enough to prove that as short as the American attention span may be, there are still those that will totally disagree with me, so...hey...that's cool, too. To each his own. It does suck, though, when an 11 year old tunes in to a chick getting off for cheering men on the radio. Moms and pops are really taking care of business there, eh? Pffft. It's not Dave's job to do their jobs for them, but now that you know you have fans *that* young who tune in....I dunno. I know that would bother me. I forget...what time was it on?
Kinda sucks. You just signed up to play music, right? Well, in the beginning anyway...

So. Whatever. Babble. Anyway........

HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS
I hope everyone's safe and really enjoying themselves and feeling comfortable and may all your tummies hurt from laughing as much as from stuffing yourselves.

and to all a good night :)
