I have a web blog where I just write about random stuff. http://mycompositions.blogspot.com/
I mostly have been writing about getting a iPod from one of those free sites. Other topics include bicycle riding, commuting, training, and racing, and music I listen to. I've been including iTunes links so people can listen to a snippet of what I'm talking about. So I decided that I would try to write emails to bands and ask 10 or so questions that I'll then post on my blog. That hasn't been working yet. But maybe you can be the first to answer me. Feel free to use it as a posting in your blog, or just e-mail me. Whatever is the most easiest for you. So here are some questions I hope you will answer. One note, I will edit out any curse words before posting on my blog, my kids read it and I try to keep it super clean for them.
----------
1) Where do you draw inspiration from? Is there a 'method' you use to create?
2) Hydrox, Oreos, or Droxies?
3) What's the last thing you listened to on your iPod?
4) Would you prosecute a fan who downloaded a song or album using a peer to peer computer application (like Kazaa, the old Napster, etc.)? What about bootleg live recordings? Do you think it's different than taping a copy of a record for a friend?
5) Street, park or vert? Did you watch the Dogtown movie?
6) Do you believe that toothpaste is actually used by the government to keep keep the general public sedated by medication that seeps into our bloodstream through the gums?
7) Finish this sentence: Axle Rose is ___________________?
8) Is it possible to be a Christian or spiritual, and be a true rock musician? Would you consider yourself spiritual? Why or why not?
9) Are you a bicyclist? What do you think of Lance Armstrong winning his sixth Tour de France. What about the allegations of Tyler Hamilton doping during the Olympics and tour of Spain.
10) If you had an afternoon to yourself to do anything at all, what would it be?
11) BONUS Question: Would you help me get an iPod?
Feel free to add any comments or notes, etc.
-----------
That's it and thanks for your time. I look forward to reading a response.

Good morning Family.Hope everyone is well. I am stressed, its crap at home. Too long to talk about it but to break it down,I hate my job, I don;t love my husband anymore and I am VERY unhappy. I am trying to stay positive and wait till the end of the year. That is when I am gonna change my life. Move out and get a new job.
So...todays pic really helped me. Thanks again Dave.

Crecencia....I can understand, We are here for you. Have you thought of counseling for your husband and yourself, don't give up on marriage yet, I know it's hard work sometimes, but many regrets come from walking away too soon...
As far as not liking your job, that's a tough one too. It's hard spending a third of your life doing something you hate, What don't you like about it? Is it not challenging enough, are your coworkers dolts..Is it the money...
I just want you to know that I am sure I speak for 6767 peeps when I say that whatever you want to share with us, we are here to listen and support you
Here's a quote from my favorite poem that helped me on days when I hated my job...
If you compare yourself with others, you will become vain and bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time...

Hi everyone!
Dave~That is one hot pic. Love the fact that it's Carmen in the magazine (who else, you might say)
CC~Do you mind me asking what it is about your husband that makes you want to leave him? Is it something you think you could work through together, if he was willing to?
Hope yer all well!

Crecencia-Keep your chin up, no matter what you are fabulous and you have unconditional support here. It isn't easy living these days but you must go on and be strong. I have two quotes that really brings it home to me sometimes when I'm bummed out regarding the whole job thing or life in general. Trust me, I'm in the same boat as you regarding my so called career I am trying to have. Sometimes, I think maybe I should be doing something different. I still struggle with that one, your not alone. I have two quotes for you......
"Sometimes you must do the things you think you can not do."
"You may not be able to control your "Living," but you can control your "Life."
Be safe and be strong!

Jezzi-Yeah we did go to couseling. But it did not work. He does not want admite that anything is wrong. We even got invited to the Dr. Phil show. He did not want to go cause he said he did not want to get yelled at by him. But I have tried for about 3 years, I think I am done. He does not support me in what I do. But THANK YOU for the words of encouragement. LOve ya babe.
Sorry, guys, I don;t mean to post such a bummer. I did not how to let it out. Thanks for all of the love everyone. Love, CC

No refressh for an hour and I missed so much!! Crecencia, you know if things can work or not. It's healthier to get out of an unhealthy relationship then to stay and it sounds like you already know that. Divorce sucks but thank god marriage isn't permenant or else there would be a lot of repressed people like there was years and years ago. BTW, Dr. Phil is one of my secret pleasures - his show rocks in a very self help sort of way...

Hey dave, nice picture, how about a carbon copy pose except with Carmen instead of yourself!(?) posted a question on your Q&A session, did not get an answer. Ordinarily Im not pushy, but THIS QUESTION IS TESTING MY SANITY....Hopefully this will be answered one day :-)
1) on the strays album, the beginning of HYPERSONIC, is that a drum loop or is Perky playing that straight off the bat a la La villa strangiato? if he is playing that straight off, then you got one hell of a Peart/Bonhamesque drummer you got on your hands.
2) do you think you would ever consider a collaboration with any Living Colour members. There was a thing in our local paper about all time dream Band, The line up was as follows: Lead singer : Bono
Guitar : Hendrix
Bass : Flea
Drums : Keith Moon
Mine would have to be:
Lead singer : Corey Glover(Power & Soul)
Guitar : Gotsta Be Dave Navvarro
Bass : Muzz Skillings/Chaney
Drums : Perky/Neil Peart
Anyone out there want to share their thoughts. Would love to know Dave's all time dream band(or is he already in it)
Peace and Love

Crecencia I’m sending over a shit load of positive vibes your way. Try to focus on all the great things in your life, plus I really like Jezzy’s quote. To add to it a little I would have to say that since I could remember I always wanted to turn back time, when I was five and I did something really bad I remember thinking, if I could only go back a few more days my life could be so much better, when I was 8, I remember wasting so much time thinking about if only I could go back to being 5 my life would be better, and on and on and on. I think I wasted so much time reflecting on what I don’t have or what I did wrong that I forgot to stop and start doing the right things so I wouldn’t have to go back and say if I had only done this when I was whinnying about that my life would be so much better. Anyhow, now I very seldom do that. I’m trying to turn in a new leaf and have no regrets. And also use whatever I did wrong as a learning experience and I realize that everything I didn’t do or that I don’t have has helped shape who I am today.
I don’t know if that makes any sense, bottom line what I’m trying to say is that sometimes it’s really hard to step outside of a situation you are currently living and see all the good things. I’m not saying you should settle for anything, but I am saying that no matter how bad you feel it is there is something good in it.
Thanks Mike for the props that and the picture really put a smile on my face. I started my blog a few weeks ago so I would stop hogging up the space here so much. Come to think of it, it’s not working too well.

That picture is lude, crude and totally uncalled for... good job. :-)
Crecencia... I am in the same boat. I love him but I'm not in love with him. I like my job but I hate the politics of boss/employee relations. She doesn't get it that in the grand scheme, I'm really the boss. I think that's the problem with my boyfriend, too. (ha) But seriously, have the strength to get out there and look for new things. It's never too late to change your life, as scary as it may seem. I would say change your occupation, and maybe things at home will clear up. If they haven't by then, hopefully your new job will give you the confidence and the monetary compensation to take on a divorce.
I am ill... ate bad cheese... home from work... must go lay down.
Posted by: NightBird at November 9, 2004 12:05 PM
Jez.... what is your thesis on?
Posted by: NightBird at November 9, 2004 12:07 PM
Oh my little nightbird, so glad you asked, I have to get all polysyllabic now...official working title
"Comprehension strategies and reading assessment"But somebody already published with that title so now it's
Implementation of Cognitive Comprehension Strategies and their affect on District mandated Curriculum based Reading Assessment:An Action Research Project....
I took some strategies from teachers in Colorado that partnered up with local businesses and implemented a reading program that focused on selection of texts, opportunities to read, and a reading friendly learning environment, complete with candles, and rocking chairs, and tried to implement it in my classroom, however limited I was by No Child Left Behind, District mandated curriculum and schedules, and Assessment driven instruction...WAKE UP!!!!!
So, my findings were that giving children opportunities to read, offering a wide variety of texts, both narrative and expository, and implementing reader response journals, improved their performance on District mandated assessments, based on pre and post test statistics.
The only thing that's killing me is putting it in research paper form, with Excell generated tables and graphs, American Psychological Association reference rules, and all that other stuff, when I am better at just telling stories....
But, hey, just reading this back, sounds like I am edumacated, don't it?

Well I sure won't be having any crotchless grannie undie nightmares anymore!
Wendy- love your blog!
Rantz- sweet site!!
CC- I hope everything works out for the best for you. I know what it's like to be trapped in a situation that totally beats you down and is nothing but negative. Sometimes you just have to break free and move on in order to keep your sanity. However, I also believe that with hard work and lots of communication that type of situation can be turned around. Sometimes it's worth sticking around and putting up a fight, but other times you just know it's time for a change.
Good news is that 6767 is not blocked for me anymore at work... was some type of glitch.
My sister's boyfriend's birthday is today and we're going out to dinner tonight.
hope everyone has an excellent day!
I'll try to catch some of you on MSN messenger this week.

jez - i know a lot of people who find it hard to write in APA style because they are so used to the flowery, story-telling, MLA writing style. being a Psych major, i can tell you that i find research articles so boring to read for that reason, but somehow, i find them easier to write. one instructor told me: "in MLA, you use 10 words to say was 5 words could, but in APA you only use 3 words to say was 5 words could." basically, it's about being concise, to the point. and for some people, that's difficult.

Posted by: Crecencia at November 9, 2004 12:35 PM
CC---smoke and mirrors, baby, smoke and mirrors....
Sarah, I know,ME? CONCISE?, What's kicking my butt is referencing the 30 research sources I needed into the text, it just interrupts the flow, you know, parenthetical author and year stuff every two sentenes drives me bonkers, and I can't get the hang of the Bibliography rules, oh, and did I mention I can't get the data in proper form either? So, I have the paper all written except for that, and it just is frustrating the living daylights out of me...PLUS>>>in order to get recommended for Doctorate, I need to have it published somewhere,(Do you think PLAYBOY would be interested?)
Ahh yes, envy me, the glamourous life of a girl who must live to be 150 just to pay back student loans...

Ok that is the second or third oblique reference I've see to IM services. Is there a list somewhere?
and Jez, with your kid lit thesis, you may find this interesting. I have a graphic novel coming out from Little Brown In January, called Escape from the Rat Race. It's an educational GN dealing with financial matters like passive income, investments, dividends and things like that. Available in all north american bookstores come jan. Targeted at the age 8-13 market, it'll be interesting to see if any kids actually read it...
Posted by: Rantz at November 9, 2004 12:56 PM
Jezzi-There's not a day where I think alot of us have so much in common that's it's scary, but in a good way. Research papers, oh that was such a long time ago for me. Let's see my final research paper ever at UNCW was for a History and Systems of Psych class. It was about 47 pages long, graphs, tables, statistics, references, my God it's coming back to me, no sleep for three days straight back then... will I sleep tonight? I think one of the most brutal things I have ever had to endure was reading research paper's by Dr. Roger Sperry (Noble Prize Winner). The guy had a Master's in English and a PH.D in Psychology (Can you say Holy-Shit!) I swore when I was finished I thought I could do anything Lol! I can recall all the APA style (Rocket Scientist Mentality) of having to say "it" in it's most bare essentials. Maybe, it's such a pain in the ass because you have to write it so that if others want to use your methodology, research or conclusions they could duplicate your research experiment (The beauty and horror of the Scientific Method.) So my heart goes out to you Jezzi-as well as Snowwhite. I am thankful now becuase all I do is write legal letters and let me say. I can write one bad ass M*%#@!)*_+!;@! legal letter! Trust me, you will use these skills later on in life, seriously you will and you will laugh about it later like I am right now!

I (like everyone else) just love that photo! By far the sweetest :) Anyone else think its totally romantic? I remember buying that Playboy, & getting an mean look from the store clerk. I had my boyfriend with me too. I guess couples aren't supposed to do these things together *rolls eyes* Anyway, Carmen's photos were beautiful. A mag worth hunting for. Take care everyone.

Dude. I had a question. A good question. For you. And now I can't remember it.
That photo is the sexy.
Uh... is it a stand alone shot or are there any more in the series? There's a question.

Blizardi/Blue Lizard:
The Rolling Stone has John Kerry on the cover (pause here for deep sigh). It's dated Nov. 11, 2004. Dave is in a 2005 Calendar in the middle (he's Mr. September!)
Rantz: sent you another email the other day but I got a message back that it wasn't going through -- did you ever get it?
Anyone know what time TPC goes on on Tuesday?

West~ RE: the glutens and nerve pain stuff? Yep I got it. My mail server is... tempermental at best. Sorry about that. 'Preciate the information on it. Looking into it, to see if it'll help. It'll be brutal if that's it, my diet is mostly bread, I don't eat red meat or much in the way of veggies. yikes.

tonto1%,
Following on with your superband type theme a quick one off the top of my head:
Vocals: Chris Cornell or Perry Farrell
Guitar1: Dave Navarro
Guitar2: Jimi Hendrix or John Frusciante or Slash or Justin King?!?
Bass: Flea or Les Claypool
Drums: Chad or Perks
To maintain my sanity i must issue this statement...
This was off the top of my head and i will kick myself in 5 minutes when I think of more artists who i cant believe i left out...there is just too much talent out there.

ONE MORE THING...i guess this "ARCHIVE CAMP FREDDY" petition kinda went out of the window then.
I had a load of fast hits at first but it's gradually got slower and slower and i believe it's at a halt now.
For those who havent yet signed, please do...it only takes a second.

Hey all,
I couldn't agree more about the pic. Hot stuff! Dave and Carmen are a gorgeous, sexy couple and an inspiration to us all.
And best of luck to CC. Sometimes, as they say, you gotta do what you gotta do. Whatever it is, stand by your decision and be happy.
Cheers/love,

It's 5:26pm Cali time and it's time for me to go home from work. I will be practicing/playing the "Plainsong" by the Cure. "Year of the Rabbit" did a cover of that song live and it was just amazing. I'm inspired to play it tonight.
Have a good night.....

Dave!
Don't take this the wrong way- I'm about as hetero as the next guy. I LOVE the picture. It conveys an image of luxury and selfish pleasure of which I'm envious. You go, man...
Posted by: aj at November 9, 2004 05:35 PM
Dream band... there's just so many talented musicians out there. I wouldn't be able to choose. You can't make me!
But I'd love to see Chris Cornell and Fiona Apple doing a duet. Even though duets are historically cheesy. Island in the Stream, anyone?
Oh, and I adore the lyrics of Eric Avery. I should stop now, because I'll go on and on.

Hey everyone,
Here are my picks
lead singer: Lajon Witherspoon (Sevendust)
lead guitar: Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
rythym guitar: Malcolm Young (AC/DC)
bass: John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin)
drums: Ginger Baker (Cream)
I have so many favorites that it was hard to just make one pick for each slot.
Later,
Mike from NYC

"It conveys an image of luxury and selfish pleasure of which I'm envious."
Very well stated, aj.
Here's to all of you having some special moments of luxury and selfish pleasure. You deserve it. :)

"My toes curl up" Ha I was just going to say something about that.
It’s a good sign when you can make your significant or not so significant other’s toes curl

Ohhhh Jezebel, "No Child Left Behind"? Just reading the words makes me cringe. I teach Special Education and my kids are required to meet the same expectations on the standardized tests as all of the other students, despite their disabilities. Therefore, I have to teach them on grade level as opposed to ability level which is totally absurd. If a child is just learning to read, how can they be expected to write an in depth essay? It's just so unfair to the kids.
You know what bugs me BIGTIME about APA? Not being able to put 2 spaces after a period. It just comes naturally to me. In graduate school, APA was all the professors wanted, but to this day I just can't break the habit of putting 2 spaces after a period! It's silly, but it becomes a big deal and an extreme annoyance, when you've got 20 pages to type. I think the rules for citations are much easier than MLA though.
Oh, and about today's picture; Darn sheet! ;)
Spreading the love,
Deena

hey Dave, just wanted to let you know that I've been hitting the gym with a personal trainer and your body serves as an inspiration towards the results I want from my weight training, I was wondering do you, if any, take supplements? Please let me know cause I want to know if I can achieve fitness like yours without supplments, thanks man -rock-
Posted by: hector at November 9, 2004 08:55 PM
DEENA!!!! I KNEW you were special...I didn't think I could admire you MORE,
Check the email I just sent, and any other teachers out there in DAVELAND...CNN is looking for background for a story they are doing on NCLB...ok, off the soapbox, NOT
The method behind the madness of my thesis is that I can PROVE that govermental limitations and restrictions on curriculum are NOT translating to the improvement of performance, Deena, my kids are,for the most part, second language learners, also expected to take part in a test that they don't comprehend, yet, I am subject to recrimination if I am caught speaking Spanish to them,,,grrrr.
APA...my main problem is with references, and rules and this comma has to be here, and this period has to be here, and this needs to be Capitalized, and ...oh, I am SO tired...I am boring MYSELF

I'M TOO OLD FOR THIS SHIT

Hector - good to hear! Dave was also partially my inspiration. Unfortunately, me working out only lasted 1 week. It wasn't hard to do, but the 2nd week one day I wasn't feeling the best, and ever since then I haven't worked out. I know I'll get back into it, but I'm gonna have to kick myself again.

Dave, I'm not gay, but I'm willing to learn. Nice pic!
On a serious note, I'm been cking out this site for a while, have posted a couple of times, have been lucky enough to meet the Master more than once, and this place is so full of positive vibes. I'm in need of thoughts/prayers at this time as my Mom is very ill with a rare case of pneumonia, so rare, they can't figure out wtf it is. So, I apologize and thank you in advance. I apologize for using this web space in my selfish wants, but thank anyone that can send a positive vibe. Her name is Rosemary. May God Bless.

Hi you guys. It's been a while since I got around here. Obviously I picked a good day to drop in. Goddamn, that pic is awesome! Haha!
Dave, I'm way behind on my weekly nut-swingings, but I still adore you as much as ever. I love that pic of you and Stevie. I absolutely love him and have for most of my life. I'd probably cry if I ever got to meet him in person. I'd kill to be front row at one of his shows. Actually a friend and I are planning to splurge someday soon to do that. We're gonna do the whole limo thing too, so it should be a blast. Anyway, glad to see you're doing well and looking as amazing as ever. I probably won't get back to being able to hang out here until after the holidays, when I'm settled in the house I just bought (woo hoo!), but I promise that I'll be back to swinging from your nuts like Jane through the jungle just as soon as I can. ;)
Colleen, Crecencia, Cori, and Wendy, I'm looking forward to seeing more of you girls too. You are cool as hell, and I'll be happy when I finally get a chance to get to know you guys better. Crecencia, hang in there. I'm sure you will be like Colleen and triumph in the end. This is probably the worst of it right now. Once you get started making the changes you want to make, you will start to feel better, even though it'll be hard. Best wishes!
Later kids. Be good. :)
Dana
PS: Saw on another page I skimmed through that Kyle got a signed copy of Dave's book. Haha! That rules!
And Luiz, don't know if you're still around, but I hope you're doing well! xo

Shit, that was long as hell and I forgot to mention NCLB. I'm currently conducting a nationwide audit on part of that Act. And yes, it is bullshit. I can't say more about it until my audit report gets released (I'm in the process of writing it now -- another reason I haven't been around!), but I will comment on that later, once I can talk freely about it.

Thought and sympathy to WestLaw, and the others deeply disappointed like myself by the election results; and especially to our friends Jezzi and Deena and those educators and 6767 family members who are directly and obviously negatively affected. I feel so bad for you all and I know so many of the family feel so similarly, so I just wanted to share some reaction to the US election from around the world.
The London Daily Mirror:
GOD HELP AMERICA
> THEY say that in life you get what you deserve. Well, today America
> has deservedly got a lawless cowboy to lead them further into carnage
> and isolation and the unreserved contempt of most of the rest of the
world.
>
> This once-great country has pulled up its drawbridge for another four
> years and stuck a finger up to the billions of us forced to share the
> same air. And in doing so, it has shown itself to be a fearful,
> backward-looking and very small nation.
>
> This should have been the day when Americans finally answered their
> critics by raising their eyes from their own sidewalks and looking
> outward towards the rest of humanity.
America’s grip on the world's economies and natural resources declines.
>
> And in foolishly backing him, Americans have given the go-ahead for
> more unilateral pre-emptive strikes, more world instability and most
> probably another 9/11.
From Bern, Switzerland:
We are very glad and grateful, however, to have American friends who do not
share president Bush's inconsiderate convictions and we would like to ensure
you of our sympathy. Thank you for rising against the decay of so many human
achievements. Your effort is badly needed as the load of resistance in the
first place rests on the shoulders of those living in the realm of the
monster.
So now I’m done, but still angry and embarassed for how we in the US seem to countries who are truly progressive. *deep breath*
