Happy First Anniversary, Dave and Carmen!

Regarding the "brush with greatness" stories, I guess I just come from an area that breeds artists and such, because I went to high school with several current celebrities, and am still in contact with some of them. Also, it seems a lot of celebs make their homes in my area, so it's not uncommon to run into them at Starbucks. On top of that, my boyfriend works in the music industry, so I have quite a few friends who might be considered "famous" or "on the verge."

The only story that would be relevant here is this one: I worked at a camp called Stagedoor Manor in the Catskills in 1994 teaching dance. On the first day, a beautiful, skinny, blonde, tan girl approached me and introduced herself without any seeming insecurity to me (in her trademark gravelly voice). She probably thought I was another camper because I looked so young (that was actually a running joke throughout the summer about me). Anyway, I sorta dismissed her, because I'd never met a 14-year-old so sure of herself, and this kinda annoyed me. Anyway, during "free time," I was asked to offer an optional class in cheerleading for campers. One of the camp administrators told me how excited this girl was about the cheerleading class. To be honest, I really wasn't that enthused about teaching her, because she had a reputation for coming to dance class with no underwear on. (I never actually witnessed this because I try not to stare at little girls' crotches... but that's just me.) To make an obnoxiously long story short, she was the only kid to show up for the class, and I had been out drinking heavily the night before and just wanted to sleep, so I cancelled the whole thing after about 5 minutes of showing her how to stomp and clap. I still feel kinda bad because maybe I could have done something for her.... but who really knows? She ended up being packed up and sent home for encouraging bisexual behavior among the campers on a field trip bus. (I think the field trip was to go see Forrest Gump.) Funny child... who's now a beautiful woman. I hope she's well.

Ha... so I didn't give her name, but I'm pretty sure Dave can deduce who she was. (No, people, it's not Carmen. Carmen is older than I am.)

Happy Anniversary! Hopefully the 1st of many.

¿What do you give someone, who can have anything he/she wants, as a gift?
It would have to be something that has some sentimental value.

Later,
Mike from NYC

Posted by: Mike from NYC at November 22, 2004 10:05 AM

Hmmm, ok, so first year anniversary gifts can be traditional, like paper, or contemporary, like clocks or calendars, or watches....so, family, let's think of what we would give Dave and Carmen on their first anniversary....

A poem, perhaps, a haiku, cinquain, sonnet, couplet...come on guys, let's show our love creatively today...

Here's a start, the Dave and Carmen acrostic
Dreamy(you saw that coming!)
Awesome
Virile
Enchanting
Accessible
Nurturing
Daring
Captivating
Accomplished
Rebellious
Marvelous
Enigmatic
Noble

ok, now you try!!

I am not trying to be mean. I think they are perfect together and they will have beautiful kids. And happy that they found there soulmate. But..was anyone sad when they hear about it a year ago? I almost cried at work.

Amber-very cute
Jezzi-also very cute

Congrats Dave to you and your awesome wife! I hope your day goes well man.

I just watched the cover of "Dazed and Confused" on TPC site and I must say, it was so amazing.... very nice work. Zeppelin was so ahead of their time. Hopefully you guys make a stop close to Indiana when you head out on tour... I am dying for a good show to come around here. But anyway, I hope everything is well with the 67 fam.. just thought I'd say happy anniversary.

So I guess It's cool that you guys have been married for a year and such being that you guys are celebrities

Seriously though.... I know the other night was only your second proper show.... TPC really needs some work. Isaacs doesn't fit in (at least yet) with his vocal style. Some great guitar/drums combos with you and Perkins.....but so far I have to say TPC sucks.

Fidel this board is for people that appreciate Dave and The Panic Channel, i read the horrible stuff you wrote about Steve I on xiola.

Anyways now to people that matter, lots of love to Carmen and Dave today , I hope you guys are still as happy as you are in years to come and that you have lots more great anniversaries. I really hope to be as happy as you in a few years time.

Love always (a bit more than usual),

you guys are so sweet, i just have to wish you happy anniversary for the second time today!! al tho my first time was one hour before midnight dutch time...
have a great day. lots of kisses and hugs flying your way :D

something completely different: my ex-boyfriend has send me another email..again! last time was in april and he totally pissed me off with what he said. i hoped we were through, but now he has to pretend he's the 'interested ex-boyfriend'. i don't have contact with him anymore..except when he feels the need to ask me how my life is and so on and so forth..he never tells me anything about his life, why should i tell him about mine? i'm still full of agry-energy and this is great place to get rid of it. i've send him an email back to make some things clear, so hopefully he can finally end 'our' chapter..i'm sure that's hard when you've dated for a year (almost four years ago now) damn!
sorry for my whining on such a happy day for Dave and his adorable wife!

very nice poetry people, let's keep it up.... either add on to the poem or make one up of your own, I have already shown you guys how to make an acrostic, here is poetry lesson number two..
Cinquain (third grade style)
First line-Subject of poem-for example (Dave and Carmen)
Second line-three adjectives (beautful, sexy, gracious)
Third line-three action or -ing words (like Journey's loving hugging squeezing)
Fourth line-a sentence that describes your feelings about the subject-(I love to see them smile)
Fifth line-repeat of subject line (Dave and Carmen)

ok,next lesson at 6- I want 100 wishes peeps, Fidel does NOT count!!!!
jezebel(next up--haiku)

Congrats- seriously. I'd marry both of you if you weren't together.

Since the comments are closed on the last topic. . .You're a lucky ass mudda* To see she that graces Starlit. . .Miss Rose. . .*sigh* I love her.

Your music can rip a heart out, shatter their soul, crush the heart, glue it back together perfectly and place it back without the slightest difference, Dave.

I still can't believe you've seen miss rose and haven't *edited* that shit. . .I am currently shuddering at the thought of not ravashing her;
it's unatural.

Moving on, I don't know how involved you are with this site, but if you interact. You should get in contact with me. I'd like to make some propositions. No big deal.

I wasnt too impressed with the quality of the poem you guys were writin (no offence)...try this classic for some inspiration...

There was a young man from Leeds,
Who swallowed a packet of seeds.
Within an hour his cock was in flower,
And his balls were all covered with weeds

There was a young man from Hollywood,
Who played his guitar as best he could.

Eternities filled with joyless days,
'Til he went on an innocent date,
Unaware of finding his soul mate,

Sharing one another's heart,
And loving 'til death do them part.

Pekka!!! Angel!!! Lovely poems!!and Bimmy!! nice couplet...
ok, missed the 6 deadline, but, as promised, a quick haiku lesson.
Technically it is supposed to be seventeen syllables, about nature, but you know, what's more natural than LOVE?
first line five syllables
second line seven syllables
third line five syllables

you need a kigo, or word that connotes the season, in this case, fall....got it? let's try!!

Dave and Carmen wed
one November day last year
Let's celebrate their love!!

see, easy!!!
ok, next lesson between West wing episodes

Not to stray from the anniversary subject, but if Sue is reading this, yes, I do live on Long Island. I haven't heard Amy Fisher's radio show yet. (What station is it on?) I have read some of the articles she's written for the LI Voice. I must admit, she's a decent writer.

I respect the fact that she's trying to redeem herself, get her act together, and live a 'normal' life again. But of course, it's only natural to be somewhat jealous of someone who gets a bunch of opportunities handed to her simply because she was once a young, infamous "lolita" who tried to murder someone. Meanwhile, there are so many other talented, deserving people who will never get recognition. I guess there really is no such thing as bad publicity!

C'est la vie...

Mouse!!! I love that poem!!
Cyn-ummmm, about that math...1994, 14 years old, so courtney is just a spot over 24....

ok, um, I am running out of lessons....so, by my count, even though there are 96 posts, many of them are NOT anniversary wishes, so come on lurkers, and you know who you are, cause I meet you wherever I go...just say Happy Anniversary

for you poets, let's rip a page from the e.e.cummings book of free verse, or maybe some Ginsbergesque stream of consciousness, just do what you feel

example

Dave
you and your love
inspire hope
where it was lost
age has left me jaded
memories of happiness faded
from view
yet you
and she
speak to me
with stories
of second chances
to make it right
the first time.

hope you have a great anniversary!

There is a man that we call Dave
Whose insane guitar licks we do crave
He add an addiction other than Janes'
Shooting smack into his veins
The habit has since been controlled
Of that we can all be consoled
He never wore any flannel
And now, The Panic Channel!

There is a woman that we call Carmen
Whose beauty and grace is certainly charmin'
We fell in love with her as Lani
Driving all the men and boys zany
Before that, Playboy was her luck
The pages from that issue are still stuck
A more beautiful woman I've never seen
In her, Dave has his Queen

They met on a blind date
The result was obviously fate
A truer romance is so rare
Especially in the "celebrity" lair
We, your fans, we love you both
We want nothing of this love but growth
A year later, a new one begins
And hope we can all hear our own violins

Peace!

Have you played in Japan before? If so, do you like it over there?

Posted by: Mike at November 22, 2004 11:30 PM

Lyn...that made me misty!!! good job!
to the rest of the family, I leave you with the most awesome poem, one I have read at many weddings,

1 Corinthians 13 1-10 (the rest of the book ain't too shabby)
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,
but have not love,
I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy,
and understand all mysteries and all knowledge,
and though I have all faith,
so that I could move mountains,
but have not love,
I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor
and though I give my body to be burned
but have not love
it profits me nothing.

Love suffers long and is kind
love does not envy, love does not parade itself,
is not puffed up, does not behave rudely,
does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil.
Does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth,
bears all things
believes all things
hopes all things
endures all things
love never fails

jezebel(wishing you all love)

PS: Do you still dislike poetry?

Posted by: RecklessPrincess at November 23, 2004 01:32 AM

RP~lmao. :D at your PS in your post.

Why I dislike poetry?
Part 1:
My ex drove me around the bend "writing poetry" all the bloody time.

Part 2: being dragged to stand up poetry nights.

Part 3: and to "spoken word" along with "jazz" nights.

Part 4: every poet thinks they are better than all other poets at the stand up (sit down), spoken word nights, and refuse to clap for anyone they don't know.

Part 5: People that believe poetry must rhyme, and have a specific metre. oh whatever...the one that sounds like a horse galloping...

oh bloody hell, this list will be endless...

Hey Denise, nice that you live on LI, next show we should hang out! But to respond to your Amy comment, I am absolutely not jealous, if I was ever going to be jealous I would be jealous of Carmen (and I’m not, but she is a lucky lucky woman!). I am just puzzled as to how Amy ended up with a media career. I have never aspired to nor had any interest in a media career, so that’s not what my question was about. I also don’t begrudge her anything, I wish her well and think it’s good that she’s trying to make a positive impact, maybe it can start to balance out the bad start she had. But I am still puzzled! I just don’t understand how that worked out. By the way, I will email you the radio station, don’t want to advertise on Dave’s site (even though I did yesterday about U2 but that was a U2 emergency).

Oh, and my stab at the blind item...
Paris Hilton?

Re ylais: "Why I dislike poetry?
That made me laugh, my friends ex was into poetry recital night and it sounded painful to witness.
One 'artist' had gone to the same school as us and banged on about growing up on the street and the hardships she had had to endure growing up, but we knew her lovely family and the beautiful home she had grown up in etc.

...oh yeah, she seemed to like using the word 'c*nt' a lot.
... and 'f**k".

I did see Gil Scott Heron once though doing tunes but with the odd spoken words bit and he was amazing and funny. Is he still in prison?
