N1

dave_spread_iconSo back to rehearsals yesterday. We have started putting together N1 from Project P yesterday. We are hoping to have it together for the 2nd and it is looking good. By the way, Billy, Dono and I will be doing a live broadcast from the Key Club on Thursday before the show. I think it is going to happen from six to seven, backstage. An unusual CFR time for us. Should be fun. I only wish we had phones back there. For those of you who asked, our friend's little puppy is doing good. She is recovering from a severe case of hypothermia.

FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY!!!
For all of you in Europe, get your asses to London because I FINALLY got my hands on 'Don't try this at home' today!!! I ordered it from HMV one month ago with no results, even after calling them several times and tracking my order.. Today, I happened to go inside Borders and whatdyaknow, there it was!!! So I finally have it now!

One question for Dave:
Where did you find your stylist? IS there some sort of company that has all the good stylists on a list, and then you celebs can pick and choose? No, seriously did you know yours from before or something? I'm a stylist here in London and am considering moving to LA for the career- possibilites...

Take care everyone!!!

Dave!

Without giving up your privacy, where in Hawaii do you like to visit (like maybe which island)? I think I remember reading that OHM was recorded in Hawaii...where were you guys for that one?

I *love* Maui. My favorite spot is on my homepage.

Dave, in your opinion is Clinton a baller?

I mean come on, President pimp.

I just need this in writing from you so please just confirm that Clinton is in fact a baller.

AJ,

I love that Banyan tree, too. All of Lahaina is so perfect, the shops, the food, the historic sites, that cool old graveyard.

I'm big on Black Rock, too.

Great homepage quote.

Hi Dave & family,

Dave, welcome back. We missed you yesterday. :) I'm so glad the puppy is well, and I hope everything else is too.

Pardon my ignorance, but is anyone familiar N1/Project P? This is the first I've heard of it. Does it relate to CF or TPC or neither? Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

What's this about New Years and NY? Say it isn't so... I think we have plans already. :( Oh well. Que sera, sera.

Love,
-Denise

P.S. Dave - If there are any more upcoming TV appearances, we'd love to hear about them!

Woo Hoo!!! Can't wait to hear N1!!! Finally get a taste of the brilliant "Prject P" =)

Wish me good luck....finally got an interview. Seasonal retail work, but work (and $) nonetheless!!

Hi Dave,

Nice to see you are checking in. ;)

Glad the pup is okay, I know how I worry about my turtle!

There was a bad bus crash a few days ago in NYC, it happened right in front of the Animal Medical Center where I took my turt last year. They were taking people in there for medical care! The vets there are damn good!

What's this about NY & New Years??? If it's opened to the public, I'll be there! lol

Denise, cancel your plans!

take care,
itanja

Happy Tuesday All!

Dave...I noticed on the NFN site in the CF Radio updates a blurb about a wild plane ride back from Vegas. Naturally, this got my attention because I had recently asked you about any particularly harrowing flight experiences you may have had. Care to share any details?

Have a great day, Family!

Posted by: Cori at November 30, 2004 12:44 PM

Hi there!

I'm new to this board!! Very exciting. I'm just trying to get throught the next 20 minutes of an exceptionally long & drawn out work day and it's almost over - thank goodness!

I have question?? Any plans on coming up to Canada (or at least Ontario) in the near future for any tour dates? It's been a while!

Thanks!!

Posted by: Sharon at November 30, 2004 01:09 PM

Denise---check out Steve Isaac's site for details about Project P, he has been posting about it for a month or so...

As far as tv appearances, I usually go to Deena's calendar of Events, or www.rockontv.com, and type in Dave's name...then, plan my life accordingly..

Cori--I think what they might be referring to is the turbulence the plane carrying Camp Freddy performers experienced coming back from Chrome Hearts gig, and Dave and Courtney joking about becoming members of Mile High club....or, I could be wrong...

Aren't I FULL of useless information today?

Princess Abby!!! Great news!! Money is money, and seasonal retail, I would be happy to see a smiling face like yours helping me out during the holidays!

Me, I am on day two of having my kiddles back, we are reading Chris Van Allsburg's Polar Express, and Dav Pilkey's Dogzilla and Kat Kong...life is good!!!

Jezz...I gathered that the post was referring to a flight after the CF show in Vegas...was just curious about the details. It may seem strange but, to ease my mild to moderate fear of flying, it's helpful to hear about scary flights that turned out ok! :p

Steve...GOOD NEWS!!! Score 1 for the underdog :D

duuude don't get my hopes up for a nyc new year's show if there really isn't one! (there better be now hehe)

so cool you & tommy are working together, dave. i just finished tommyland which was another enjoyable autobiography. his description of jail sounded horrifying but i'm so glad he's made it out and done much for the positive as a result.

my favorite part of tommy's book is when he has friends or music colleagues write referrals on him. pharell williams has one of the nicest, sweetest stories then he blows it by saying "besides, everyone gets down to 'pour some sugar on me' at any hip hop party"...pharell, tell me you're frontin' right?! go back to rock school 101!

the only shitty thing is i went to tommy's website and you have to pay to be his friend :( thanks dave for accepting us freaks for free!

i also caught one of those bogus vh1 specials this weekend with the not funny at all "comedians" on them (dude i love best week ever- not you guys- the awesomely bad crew)...and they were knocking 'awesomely bad metal songs' or something :( they really pissed off scott ian & rikki rachtman by calling danzig's 'mother' awesomely bad which ruled haha...but anyway, i've had "unskinny bop" in my head the past like 5 days now ahhh hahahaha i just want to learn the words now so it'll go away!!!

Posted by: ellen at November 30, 2004 01:49 PM

Did they forget "I Want Action" by Poison?

Brett

Posted by: Brett at November 30, 2004 01:54 PM

Poison's entire catalouge is only matched by Warrant and Winger is the percentage of craptacular songs.

And let us not even go to places like 'Black and Blue' and "the Bullet Boys"

Of course, VH1 ripped me off. The bastards. As evidence, I offer this...

http://archive.gamespy.com/comics/deathmarch/strips/st101503.html (if you hit the 'next comic' link at the bottom it will take you through the entire series, and yes I did the '18 and life' bit on purpose)

Again, I thank Dave, Jane's, Skinny Puppy, and Bauhaus for preventing me from spending my late teens and early 20s being a hair farmer.

EVERYONE,

If anyone wants a coupon to use at Macy*s this weekend, you can e-mail me for it. It is good for 20% off on clothing, even designer labels, or 15% off home furnishings (sheets, towels, plates, blenders, china etc.). The discount is NOT valid on cosmetics, fragrances, furniture and mattresses.

Hi Dave! Hi all!

Oh man, it's been so long! I've just been so busy w/ school and all that s#¤t.

It seems a lot's going on though (as if it wasn't possible without me! How egoistic!!).

Hawaii sounds nice! I was there in Maui in May 2000. Went fishing on a boat from Lahaina harbor. And then those trees.... Gotta luv 'em. BTW, does banyan have another meaning apart from the tree? A friend of mine said so, but I can't tell whether he was shitting me or not since English ain't my native. Help the foreigner!

Dave, I know you've said you're not into sports but we're you ever into surfing? I mean, it's a cool sport, and very Californian and Hawaiian sport, I might add! I know Peter and Perry and anthony and all those guys surf, so I was just wondering if you did.

Peas 'n' nuts!

Posted by: Pekka at November 30, 2004 02:47 PM

Jezzi - Thanks for the Project P info. I should've checked that site first before I shot off my mouth, huh? (blushes)

Brett - Dave DID have long metal-esque hair in the early days of Jane's. (And looked quite hot, incidentally.) But you're right that it was never all teased out and sprayed.

"Big hair" is quite cheesy, but it WAS a happenin' style back then. I bet many of the ladies here had it back in the day. I know I did! LOL

Cheers,
-Denise

Hair's a good subject. Who's the first to confess to have had a mullet or should I open the game in order to encourage you people?

Posted by: Pekka at November 30, 2004 03:03 PM

pekka...my horrifying hair story...i was like bald until i was three...and white as porcelain...so people thought my mom was pushing a porcelain doll in the stroller...i guess that was bad for her...but i digress...also hacking all my hair off circa '99 wasn't a good decision...but...we all have our problems

OMG! if there's a dave/panic channel/camp freddy show in NYC on new years...i'm there! hoooo boy! hold me back! lol...wow

-love, emily

Posted by: blondimofo at November 30, 2004 03:17 PM

Of COURSE I had a mullet...c'mon now, it was the age when you had both mousse AND squirrel in your hair (Will and Grace reference)...but they didn't call them mullets back then, or I don't think I would have gotten one, like that Saturday Night Live routine that proposed that a a name like SMUCKERS didn't necessarily connotate goodness.....
one more reference, from Will Smith...Men in Black...the difference with my mullet is that "I made it look GOOD"
jezebel(business in the front, party in the back)

Posted by: jezebel at November 30, 2004 03:28 PM

Jezzi - I forgot to mention: I know about Deena's list of events. I was actually wondering if Dave himself was working on anything now that might be televised eventually. (I am often misunderstood myself!)

Onto hair... I never really had a mullet, thank God. Unless you count when I was in 6th grade or so, back in the early 1980s. Back then it was known as the "bi-level". Horrible, just horrible.

How about favorite hair products? Anyone remember Stiff Stuff? Aussie Sprunch Spray? Dippity-Do? (Or am a seriously dating myself? LOL)

Posted by: Denise at November 30, 2004 03:31 PM

OOPS... I don't mean to "dis" anyone who HAD a mullet. I'm just saying it looked horrible on ME.

Just clearin' that up!

Posted by: Denise at November 30, 2004 03:32 PM

Here is an equation broken down into basic mathematics/factors since I am extremely bored at work right now .........

Here we go...........

1 part 80’s rebellion X’s MTV’s Head Banger’s Balls Bad Videos divided by Rikki Ranchman’s bad hair X’s CC Deville’s guitar solo’s-Warrant’s Hair stylist costs + Winger’s groupie factor + Bon Jovi’s make-up costs –cost of wing-wam socks (divided) by converse sneakers + tight jeans X’s Twisted Sister’s rider costs squared + % of vodka shots consumed (minus) Kramer Guitar endorsements gone bad+ Tommy Lee’s over the top drum kit X’s the most crucial factor here of the equation people (David Lee Roth’s "Party in the Limo") = Aqua-Net

Brett LMAO!!!!!!!

Posted by: Brett at November 30, 2004 04:00 PM

For my crew (or is that Crue...) we always used white and pink label aqua net, spraying it while blow-drying the hair. stuff turned your hair into an epoxy-laden, bullet-proof shield.

yeah yeah yeah, Circa 83-87 I had a mullet, razor-cut metal t-shirts, pegged leg levis, with designs done in bleach, capezio dance flats and eyeliner...

I blame the drugs.

-R

PS: Dave, for comedy sake, ask Sorum to show you the publicity photos for 'Y Kant Tori Read"... he's got a LOVELY mullet in those. heh.

Posted by: Rantz at November 30, 2004 04:05 PM

Denise~I lived on Stiff Stuff. :D Me and my Stiff Stuff were never parted. My hair was spiked high! I remember those others too, put on the Dippity Doo first, then the Stiff Stuff, (or Aussie for the Scrunchy look) and hopefully, your hair would stay up all night.
And carry the mini Stiff Stuff bottle around with you, just in case!
Nothing worked before that, you had to resort to sugar water. Or worse.
I had a tail as well for a while. Thompson Twin style. Until like every gangsta in NYC started wearing one. I've been trying to figure out if that counts officially as a mullet~that's an UK name for the "Bi-LeveL" btw. I forgot it was the bi-level. Too funny.

Posted by: ylais at November 30, 2004 04:25 PM

Yeah~that's not right, Danzig's Mother is a way cool goth type song, and very sexy too...thanks for reminding me.
I'm with Wendybird on this one.

Posted by: ylais at November 30, 2004 04:50 PM

Hey... is it just me, or did the look of this site suddenly change? (Stepped away for a while...)

Oh well... I'm off to grab dinner. (Was lazy and didn't cook!)

-Denise

PS. I, too, thought Danzig's "Mother" was a very good song. It did not belong on any "worst" list.

Posted by: Denise at November 30, 2004 04:53 PM

Only a poseur would put it on a 'worst" list. Lmao! :P

Mullets rule....d!
Great confessions, people. So did I, so did I.

I've definitely lost my rhythm, it's 3.30 am here and I'm still up and not sleepy. Not good. Maybe it's 'cos yesterday I was up all night having.... homework to do! I just wish the sentence would've ended differently. School at nine. All work and no play makes Pekka a dull boy. New rhythm, new life. Tomorrow!

Maybe I'll watch There's Something About Mary and laugh myself to sleep. The scene where he goes to pick up Mary to the prom and a black man answers the door and he sorta leans back to check the house number just refuses to leave my head.

Later, all!

Part II. of the equation...

This one was hard.......

1 part Jesus Christ (hey, he had one!) X’s Wolfgang Mozart- divided by Gallagher X’s the “Saved by the Bell-Guy X’s Back Street Boys X’s Michael Bolton (squared to the fifth “Bolt head) – Tom Cruise + Kevin Costner divided by John Stamos X's 3 + the song “Ain’t Nothing But a Good Time + Jon Claude Van Damm – the % of Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me! bought by teenagers X's Hulk Hogan's shares of Bic stock returns – hairstylist's lawsuits X’s % of decrease in mousse/gel overall sales divided by broken hair clippers X's Vanilla Ice + his fan club members worldwide divided by Billy Ray Cyrus! = The Mullet

Brett, don't be so sure that Dave never had an aqua net phase... http://members.tripod.com/tno13/photo/wow.jpg

...sorry Dave, it's a great pic, I just had to do it! ;)

Stiff stuff? OH YEAH! I guess they don't make it any more, huh? It had such a unique smell, I could place it in an instant. I often used "All Set" hairspray because it came in a can that was practically the size of a fire extinguisher. I remember in the 80's everyone had a massive can of spray in their purse. Must haves: makeup, gum, camera and a wicked can of hairspray...

...or maybe that was just here in Jersey.

Spreading the memories,

I actually still have a small bottle of 'Stiff Stuff' & a full jar of 'Dippity Do'! How much do you think I can get for them on ebay? I also found some other hairspray with wacky 80's graphics on the bottle, 'Bold Hold'.

Lord knows what other hair product treasures I have in my product supply closet!

I also have tons of BIBA (I LOVED the black Art Deco cases!) and Mary Quant make-up, don't know if anyone here remembers that stuff. I saved a lot of stuff because of the great design quality of the packaging. Anyone remember LOVE makeup, in the eyeballs? lol

Btw, Aussie is still making 'Scrunch Spray', they've just re-named it! lol

Love makeup!! oh, stop, itanja...I'm getting all misty, remembering my Maybelline mascara in the pink and green tube...and roll on lip gloss...and blue eyeshadow!!

Deena - I almost forgot about that Dave pic. LOL But even there, he looks gorgeous and goth; not cheesy.

Speaking of the pocket book contents, we Long Islanders carried around the hair spray too. Along with a pick, and a scrunchie, just in case you gave up and decided to throw it up into a (big) ponytail. Some girls even carried around the "Clicker". Anyone remember that? It was a portable curling iron that was powered by, I believe, butane!

I gotta say, this conversation brings back memories of searching for the perfect spray for the perfect big hair. I tried 'em all, but the BEST hair spray for that look was made by St. Ives. It was called Silk and Keratin hair spray, and it was in a pink non-aerosol bottle. I have no idea if they make it or not anymore. But it was liquid glue. Gummy, sticky, and took a few minutes to dry, so you could really "work" with your hair and shape it to your heart's content. It literally transformed your hair.

Sigh... Memories...

Posted by: Denise at November 30, 2004 08:05 PM

being that my hair is stick straight and really fine...i avoid using hairspray...but the Funky Chunky from John Frieda is great stuff...i love it...and i actually remember BIBA products somewhat...i love anna sui's stuff cause it's in that boho-goth packaging...but for goth eyemakeup...it's all about MAC's eye kohl in smolder...i love make up and hair...lol...i've had way too many hair styles and colors over the years...and i'm only 19 lol..it's a miracle i'm not bald.

love that pic of dave...he does look goth and hot and just awesome! dave could never look bad no matter how hard he tried!

The original LOVE products actually came out in the mid to late 1960s, way before most of you guys were probably born! One of my aunts knew I collected interested make-up cases, so she gave me some old LOVE products she had saved. I think they were still producing cologne in the 80's-90's, but the make-up line ended a long time ago.

BIBA was a very reasonably priced line in England, though here it was being sold at high end stores such as Bergdorf Goodman! Here they actually had a special section for it near the 'hip' clothing! I remember their lipsticks were only around $1.00 the first time I was in England.

BIBA was actually part of a whole fashion 'concept', they had a big Art Deco clothing store in London. They featured their own line of clothing as well as the make-up. Inside the store they had a club where famous bands performed!

Unfortunately, the store closed down many years ago. Anna Sui owes a lot of her inspiration to that BIBA era of clothing, make-up & the whole fashion/music scene which was going on in Britain at the time. I love Anna's stuff, but she definitely was inspired by British designers such as Ossie Clark.

I think Mary Quant re-launced her make-up line here a few years ago, I have no idea if the shop is still open.

When I did display at Macy's in the 80s, the Calvin Klein makeup line was still being produced, it was rather expensive, I used my company discount to get it cheaper. He had some great colours & the packaging was gorgeous. I have no idea why it went under, because the products were great.

Posted by: itanja at November 30, 2004 09:24 PM

Itanja~I adore BIBA and Mary Quant. I also love packaging design. :D

Hi Dave ,
I'm a big fan from the Land Downunder I just wanted to ask you a question about maybe something you had in you darkside, A couple years back I used to take drugs and party hard with them, and now i'm left with this pycosis type of paranoia that people in my town are talking about me and judging me and downgrading me , i know it's just in my head but i cant help feeling down , sketchy and infrerior to them. I have seeked therapy help but I can't find the piece of mind i'm looking for. I noticed you had issues with low self esteem and stuff , how did you beat this horrible dark monster.
Thanx Dave,

ps. i'm a guitarist im my band and we are covering your rhcp recording 'warped'!!!!

pss any chance of your camp freddy and panic channel productions being released here in Australia??

You know i like the conversations, but ya know, lets drop some questions on here too.

Think so. On my Mac, I click Post it warns me about security and comes up with a window that I can either Send or Cancel. When I click Send it remains there and you have to do it a second time. To get around double posts click send in the first window and cancel the 2nd. Seems to work for me.

So, in honor of what I consider the official start of Christmas, December 1st, the day we Catholics, and others, all bust out our Advent calendars..

What Christmas carol would you sing, if you could EVER be courted into appearing on a Christmas album, you know, like the ones they do for Special Olympics?

My all time fav was Sinead O'Connor's version of Dylan's I Believe in You?
Second fav...Bob and Doug McKensies version of 12 Days of Christmas...

Good tidings to my family this morning
jezebel(on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, a beer in a tree)

Hi Dave,

Anna Sui was mentioned a few times in this thread......Do you still keep in touch with her? Is she still designing for you? Or were the leather lace-up pants you wore in her show, not hers.

I remember when you were in one of her runway shows, any chance of doing that again? You & Carmen appearing would be very cool.

Re the hair products: What was you fave back in the Jane's days? You seem to have very thick hair & probably didn't need much, though I think we all used some sort of product back then.

take care,
itanja

happy 1st day of advent and whatnot (:

if I wasn't so slow I would oh-so crack your little crypticisms... but, don't worry, your secrets are safe!

just a random though, Dave... you must get a lot of fan-mail. any idea where it all goes, does any of it actually reach you?
