Leaving Los Angeles

Dscn0657_1Today is the show in Vegas with Camp Freddy. Looks like some of the VR guys will be coming, along with Courtney, Duffy and Cantrell. The usual cast of characters. I miss the city so it will be nice to get away for the day. I'll try to get some pictures up as soon as I can. The TPC site is really moving along. Steve has added some flash gymnastics and an images section. We are low on content, primarily because we have been a band for about five minutes. However, we are loving the "home grown" vibe of all of this and appreciate your support throughout the process. Don't forget for those of you in L.A., TPC will be playing at the Dragonfly again on November 16th. The date hasn't been added to the TPC site yet, but it is on the Calendar of Events. Also, as time marches on, a lot of the links from this site will be added to the TPC site, such as the Agency Artwork and TPC video and images. 6767 will take on more of a traditional blog vibe.

Type to you tomorrow,

DN

Continuing the conversation...I was typing in a comment...
"Tonto, I put "frontment" :D I wanted it to rhyme with "argument" oo just kidding..it was a mistake..but I like the word. I'm in South Wales myself.
But I am curious what made the pistols "utter shite" when you saw them?"

Hi Dave! Have a good journey.

Cori~just read that coffee/soda news. And it is definately not news. It's already wel known. Who is fobbing it off as a new insight? I mean they already now for instance if you go into surgery and stop drinking your usual coffee/tea that you will experience terrible headaches from withdrawal.
Thing is they still provide people with coffee and tea breaks regularly in hospitals here in the UK.
Hence no withdrawal.

I have only come across maniacal non-drug policies (including tea/coffee/soda)
in US hospitals, and only in a couple of them. I have met doctors in the USA who have left certain hospitals because of the hospital having such strict policies.

you know Dave.... If you knock off the sharp edges on the TPC logo that would make an interesting sex toy. Equiped with handles and everything.

Sex for thought.

Are there going to be tickets for the Dragonfly show or do you just show up? Maybe somebody who went to the first show can answer that question for me.

Thanks,
Aaron

Hey Dave,

Good luck with the Camp Freddy show make sure to post some pics of it on here or TPC site. When do you plan on playing in Canada next it has been awhile since you graced us with your presence.

Oh yeah! did you ever have that sleep over with Lou Reed? LOL

Lisa...I agree. I think we all know that coffe/soda/tea is addictive. I believe the gist of the article (perhaps, during my editing the point was lost)and the thing I found interesting, was that it is now being more widely recognized in scientific circles, rather than being scoffed at, and doctors are now seriously acknowledging it as an addiction and coming up with ways to treat it, if necessary.

As far as "who is fobbing it off as a new insight" the article mentions that it was taken from the October edition of "Psychopharmacology".

Obviously, just because I found it interesting, does not mean that all of you will ;)

Posted by: Cori at November 4, 2004 10:10 AM

r3~good thinking. someone has done a 'sex toy' type piccie of the tpc logo but it isn't
"appropriate' to put on here. I loathe that word appropriate, and inappropriate too. So that's 2 words.
Really, it's X rated.

like your 'sex for thought" pun :D

Posted by: ylais at November 4, 2004 10:13 AM

Cori,

I dont think coffee/soda/tea is addictive myself at least I have never encountered a problem. Pesonally I think the addiction for caffeine is more of a psychological one more than a physical addiction

Posted by: Pinhead at November 4, 2004 10:21 AM

I see where you're are coming from totally Cori, but anyway it's put, it isn't new.
been in that field too. plus there is a school of thought among psychologists/psychiatrists that anything and everything is an addiction.
myself, I find that a most vulgar way at viewing human beings.
I don't want them to look at everything I eat, and drink, and do as an addiction to be treated.
I mean we've got "love is an addiction", sex, eating..everything..and yet it is all things we do naturally. or need.
It's an extremely reductive viewpoint.
if someone drinks too much coffee, say because they are getting symptoms like heart palpatations, then they can gradually reduce their intake. I bet this is all about giving people more drug to help them overcome addictions. Oo

That would fun to play with though. I think a girl could get into that. I would have fun doing what ever she wanted. *daydreaming about sexual experiences*

Anyway. Snap back to reality back to this desk withthis computer. Damn I can't wait to get home now.

Can someone send me that pic if you have it.
Also.... who censored it? Dave? I can't see him doing that.

I, like many of your "family", wish I was able to be there! Like to be anywhere to see you in person Mr. Navarro!

And thank you - you made me very popular over the last few days. First I will tell you I graduated from High School over 20 years ago, but I volunteer with the arts program at one of the area high school. I am the technical director for the drama department - my sister is the teacher/advisor - and I love to work with teenagers. Some of the kids saw the letter in USA Weekend that I wrote and they thought I had to be the coolest mother because I was a fan! They all wanted to see my autographed book, but I feared that it would become lost if I took it. But I showed pictures of your signature and a picture of me dressed as Gene Simmons.

They had a garage band they named CharlesFrancesIvan - after the storms - and sang Hurricane. It was soooo good. And we had twins, who were in 9th grade, dancing to Moby. That along with the vaudeville format and heavy broadway influences made for a totally eclectic night! We have had several performers make it from this area - and alot of them got started in this variety show. Even though he wasn't a part of it, Brett Michaels is from that area. Our musicians have taken top honors in college and other areas of their fields. Who knows, maybe we have a Dave Navarro right there in our midst!

Keep up the positive side Dave - you should have heard how so many of them talked about you.

Always,
me

Dave,

I was at my favorite card house last night and saw you on the cover of CARD PLAYER MAGAZINE. Dude, you have totally made it now! (Cue dramatic fanfare with timpanis and horns.)

There were several others on the cover from the CPT show. You are quoted as saying you like Hustler's best for your poker playing needs. Never been. How is it there?

I kicked ass btw!

Have fun in SIN CITY. I always liked that AC/DC tune. I like roulette the most because there really isn't that much thinking to it. Its a game of luck. Hopefully TPC or CF can make it to NYC or the east coast some time soon.

hey kyle, i felt exactly the same when i got my DTTAH copy. like the happiest girl alive and like the first dutch girl with a copy. i had to tell everyone around me i got the book...(someone here called me precious, hihi) enjoy reading! :D

okay, tomorrow my last exam of the week. economy really did go as bad as i thought it did..i got a 2.8..before the test i said would be happy if it was above a 2..but a 6 or even a 10 would be a lot better...but impossible! *keep dreaming honey*
tomorrow i have english, that's the only subject i'm good at. we probably have to write a letter to an editor and complain about some silly artikel (give your opinion and use at least 3 different arguments..)
well, we'll see how that ends up! at least i've practised my english a lot lately
love, emma
the TPC site looks really good and i can't wait to see the pictures of the Vegas show!

Dave, this is from the Kerrang interview with Scott Weiland:
""The night before we meet up with Weiland, the singer was out rocking the LA nightlife at a show by Camp Freddy, the all-star jam band (put together by former Cult/Stimulator man Billy Morrison and ex-Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro) which has given everyone from Robbie Williams to actress Gina Gershon a chance to live out rock star dreams.
"last night was my first show with them," Weiland explains with a lazy gentle smile."Everyone was there: Dave Navarro,Matt Sorum,Steve Jones, Billy Duffy...Courtney Love sang. I sang David Bowie's "Young Americans", The Ramones,' "I Wanna Be Sedated", and I sang the Sex Pistols' "Bodies" with Steve Jones." "

Cool right!? I liked it anyway. :D

Hi guys.

WOW! My vicodin is kicking in. whoa! ANyway, About the TPC symbol being sexual. What if Dave and Carmen turn that into a real product? I would buy 2. One to keep and one to use. Sounds like a plan to me. lol.
Ugh, my boss is gettin' on my nerves today. I think I need to look for another job.

Oh about the whole "no cameras" at the shows, does that include camera phones? Cause when I go to the Key club show I want to have pics of my first CF show. Does anyone know anything if those count?

Sorry if I am not making any sence. Its the drugs.
Take everyone.

QUOTEHi dear Dave.
Today I'm a little angry. Few days ago I asked you (please!) our whishes for my bday; it was my only desire.Well, Jezz is a very lucky person! You do that for her, but not for me. I'm so unhappy........It doesn't matter (it isn't true!). Bye and good morning family. See you soon.

My dear paola (paolo),]
It helps if you are like a gnat at a bbq(Bad Boys 2), or a pita(pain in the ass) or just a shameless self-promoter....I'm sure your request probably just got stuck in the middle of a 100 posts and he just didn't see it....Either way, don't think I am any more special just because I am an attention whore....By the way, I don't believe in luck, I believe we create our own, with a little help from God. Anyway, happy birthday, I created my own one of those, too. My family didn't call, my friends didn't call, but everyone here gave me good wishes, and one of them actually came true!!

jezzi(I'm...too sexy for my birthday)

Paola-Happy late b-day. Don;t take it personal that Dave did not give a shot out to you. SOOOO many people stop by and post. And I agree with Jezzi, she is an attention whore. Juat kidding sweetie. Got nothin' but love for ya Jezzi.

Speaking of WHORES... I was just listening to the version that was included in Kettle Whistle and Dave's two solos are still my favorites of his whole catalog. There is just so much power and force in that song and those two solos...After all these 17 years, it still blows me away.

Rock on!

Check out this film. A friend of mine turned me on to it and even if you think it's shite...the soundtrack is cool. But if it is true... that means that our government participated in the most heinous act of fear propaganda ever...at the highest levels.

I still have to say that our current president had no platform until his war on terrorism. His campaign of fear kept him in the white house. Makes you think...

okay,I can't do it! i give in. if you had heard/read any of GBush JUNIOR's (that's what he was called at the time) speeches to auto workers then you would have been very clear on what his agenda was. He told them one thing, he told the rest of the country something else. All before he got in office, and on his first campaign trail.
It isn't shocking. It's bleedin' obvious.
That he use a war to rally people around him, and for auto industry interests..again bleedin' obvious.
I haven't even gone to look at that link Steve. I am a little tired of years of this stuff.
I apologise. That's my own thing.

Posted by: ylais at November 4, 2004 06:59 PM

Lisa,
Don't ever apologize! You rock!

Today the bastard kept referring to his election win as "the will of the people." I almost vomited...the will of 51% of the people. Basically the rednecks and superstitious bible thumpers of the south and mid-west. Most of whom are highly under-educated and living in the sticks, inbreeding with each other ...I'm in the other 48%.

Don't apologize.
But definitely check out that link...really mind-blowing.

Posted by: Steve at November 4, 2004 07:08 PM

Hi Steve! Thanks! :D
Okay, I'll check it out...
You sweet talked me into it.

Lisa xxxx

Posted by: ylais at November 4, 2004 07:10 PM

No, it wasn’t all rednecks even educated people voted for him. Where I work the vast majority of the professors voted for Kerry but a couple of the more uptight homophobic, conservative yet very educated (obviously not in life) professors voted for Bush. You know the type that doesn’t stray from their party even if their party’s primary representative is an evil, retarded, poor excuse for a human, manipulative prick. I really don’t want to talk about this anymore. For the most part I’m just embarrassed to have someone like him represent our country. If we were known as fat “Americans before now we will be known as stupid fat “Americans and that’s not even the issue. The main issue is, how long is it going to take to recover from this, how much damage will his administration cause to our nation, the world and our environment. I guess being embarrassed in the grand scheme of things it’s just trivial.

But I would still think that the people would want someone in office that could at least articulate a somewhat intelligent thought. To me the president should be someone that represents the best in all of us, and if Mr. Bush is the best then God help us. I think because I live in California where I’m surrounded by so many different cultures and ways of life the way I view life is much different than if I would have been raised on a farm somewhere like ________. Again this is just one of the things that just blows me away. How people could have such a twisted perception of life and believe it to be God’s will or believe that it’s inherently true. Take for instance everyone that followed Hitler and Hitler himself.

When I read about history and I see the things that are happening today, it just saddens me that we haven’t moved forward one bit. How could someone today still believe in a superior race, still believe in a cast system, still believe that it’s ok to go bomb someone in the name of God, still believe that it’s ok to pay someone just the minimum to get by, still believe that it’s ok to destroy our environment if it will gain them riches, that it’s ok to go victimize young children in other countries because it’s legal there…?

I don’t know, a few days ago I still had faith in humanity then something like that happens and it makes me open my eyes and reconsider that faith.

That’s all I have to say about that.

Dave I hope you are having a great time jamming with Camp Freddy and the VR guys in Vegas. Wish I could catch the show.

Will there ever be a Doheny, TPC, Camp Freddy, Cardboard Vampires and VR show?

Posted by: wendybird at November 4, 2004 08:15 PM

Ylais ~ the reason why the pistols were Shite(Although this is just my opinion) was that throughout the gig Lydon kept taking swipes at the crowd, and with the exception of Steve Jones, you could tell that the band really were only there for the money. When Kiss first re-united for a tour(Alive worldwide 96) although financial reasons were driving them at that time, the whole band were "into it" which showed in their live performance, but watching them on psycho circus tour, you could tell that they were there purely for financial reasons, which showed in their performance. Whereabouts in south wales are you?

Matt ~ One of the best places to find tabs on JA would be OLGA.Net(On Line Guitar Archive) Hope you find this helpful, though it probably is easier to learn by ear.

Tonto~I'm in Pembroke. And yourself?
Hmm..interesting about the Pistols, though I am now curious how you can tell a band are doing a gig just for the money? And on top of that since it's their profession then I suppose that financial matters are going to be some motivation.
Wasn't there at that show, so I'm unqualified to critique it. Ditto with Kiss, not a Kiss fan, but I know what you are getting at definately.
I'm hard pressed to think of a show/gig I have been to where I thought these people on stage here are only doing it for the money...:S Been to loads of shows too. Then again, I usually was the nutter down at the front dancing..jumping around like a maniac...
I know when I went to see PIL a while back now, I went with a group of people including my boyfriend at the time. He was totally offended by Lydon, and especially Lydon's spitting, whereas I LOVED it. That relationship didn't last much longer after the PIL show. :D Oh god! it seems so fucking funny now,

Posted by: ylais at November 5, 2004 03:29 AM

Hi Lisa ~ I guess that the way I perceive a band live is by the enthusiasm with which they carry out their craft live. When a band are on stage and want to be there it usually makes for a better gig, whereas when they are on stage but dont want to be there it shows. I have been to well over 100 gigs since the first one I went to, and the most impressive frontmen(t?) i have seen are the ones who are having a good time on stage. I have seen some awesome singers whos enthusiasm for their the gig their doing raise the quality of the show(Corey Glover, DLR, Perry Farrel) but with Lydon his own points of view and self importance get in the way of performance. with the pistols it was like he couldn't wait for the show to be over, whereas with Janes, Living colour e.t.c its not as if they are showmen who are there to entertain, it is as if for one night only these people let you into their lives and share everything from points of view to hopes and dreams with the crowd they are presented with, Know what I mean or am i talking testicles(?)

Tonto~I think we're in the land of the grey sky! :D
It's very overcast today, but not too cold or windy. Was out last week along the coast here, in storms, and then when got home realised there had been flood warnings! Luckily I live near Pembroke Castle so I am on Higher Ground. ;)

I know what you mean about the frontment (we got to use that word, it just works)
but I am still a maniac dancer, and maybe I have simply been fortunate. Most gigs I have gone to, lost count, have been in small venues. I steer clear of the larger venues usually, unless it's a band I really love. Maybe. Also, I took a long break from the music scene purposefully, after I loathe to bring this up, but after Kurt Cobaine died. :( And you are talking about times when I was on my haitus.

I can think of one disappointing show, and that was Siouxsie and the Banshees in NYC, who obviously didn't want to be there, because they were on stage for 20 minutes, and I felt like crying. I still curse them out to this day. GRRR!!! I loved them back then, got all excited, and just as the show was picking up..off they went...and I still don't know why. Made me not such a fan of theirs anymore just that alone.

So I get you! :D

That's okay, I'm still waiting for my copy to get here from that book shop in LA.

Blackwells is a high street shop, they have them in lots of places in the UK.

Where are you located? It should be in the local phone book. But I'll look it up for you if you like.

quick message to all those searching in Vain ~ try waterstones.com for DTTAH, if that does not work out for you, try looking in Amazon.com(which I where i had mine, arrived in like 3-5 days) failing that, when looking for DTTAH, instead of using Dave N's name, search under Neil Strauss, who is the dude that co-wrote the book with Dave and shared that year insanely documenting Dave Life. Hope this helps.

Gotta admit Rob, I love it!

waterstones goes to amazon.co.uk now apparently..so that's amazon.com.
but you could call your nearest Waterstones and see if they have it in, and ask them to save it.

Hey question for anyone - have you or anyone you know every had skin cancer? I'm a little freaked out right now because I found a mole on my face. I've already called the doctor to schedule an appointment but I want to know if anyone has gone through this... God, of all places, my face!!!

~Melissa~

Posted by: Melissa at November 5, 2004 09:01 AM

Melissa...my Husband had a stage 3 malignant melanoma (very deadly form of skin cancer) on his shoulder...had surgery approx. 7 years ago, has been monitored closely and remains cancer free at this point. Good for you for checking it out right away...best of luck. I'm sure, if you're just noticing it, it will be fine.

Posted by: Cori at November 5, 2004 09:18 AM

Thanks Cori!! Did he have any scaring?

~Melissa~

Posted by: Melissa at November 5, 2004 09:33 AM

Melissa... From what I understand about skin cancer, a mole must be a certain darkness in color or raised or a certain diameter to be worrisome. Unfortunately, moles will show up as we age in all sorts of places, but most will be harmless. If it's less than quarter inch in diameter and flat and just plain old light brown, you shouldn't fret.

The details of the mole and whether your family has a history of skin cancer should be the first things you examine. Then, think about whether you've been healthful about your sun exposure.

More than likely, you are completely fine. Think of it as a character spot.... like Cindy Crawford. :-)

Oy, Cori... I just read your post about your husband. That's horrible. Glad to hear he hasn't had any more developments like that. My friend had a huge mole (2" wide and raised) removed from her shoulder for fear that it may become cancerous.

Posted by: NightBird at November 5, 2004 09:44 AM

Yeah, I know I'm being reactionary. Cancer runs in my family (it wiped out a whole generation of my family), in fact, I've already had to deal with cervical cancer myself. I'm just concerned but because I've never had any experiences with skin cancer at all in any way, I just wanted to ask around about it. At this point, cancer or not, I'm having the mole removed. I'm also afraid of scaring and it being on my face... Vain, I know -

Evidence the world is fucking crazy, Part I

Small piece of background: I have a degenerative nerve disorder of some kind that Dr.s really can't figger out. Result is that over the last four years I've gone from very occasionally having pain in my left foot to currently having my lower left leg and foot in constant pain, even with painkillers. So, as part of my treatment, I have a pain management Dr. that I have to go through. ok, background bit done, let's see what bearing this has in the world being completely wholesale, costco-sized, ten-for-a-dollar nuts.

Over the last two weeks I've had massive pain spikes. the kind that prohibit sleeping period. So, rather than exceed my pain med prescription (because if I do that, they will not refill early as part of the 'non-abuse contract' that you have to sign prior to treatment) I call and make an emergency appointment to see about getting a cortizone injection, or SOMETHING to help with this. The office is cool and gets me in the next day.

So, next day, get in to the examining room and the Dr. comes in. First thing he says 'so did your guys win?' and I sit there baffled, thinking he's talking sports (which I don't pay attention to) and say 'excuse me?' He responds with 'the election, did your guys win?'

Now, in the back of my head a red light goes off thinking this is innappropriate to be asking me prior to treatment, but I ignore it and say 'well the presidental is a red devil, blue devil equation that due to the electoral system I have little to no control over, so I was more concerned on the state initiatives and how those did.' He presses me for whether I was 'happy' with the outcomes, and I say 'yeah some of them... I was happy the stem cell one went through'

He stiffens up and says "well, you shouldn't be!" He then starts talking about the 'real' financial cost of the proposition, and the fact that better results come out of VC-funded research, that there's no checks and balances or public accountibility in the measure... and I'm listening, very interested because he's a Dr. and I'm interested in what a member of the medical community has to say.

Until...

He segues from the financial aspect of it into the "well, you know what the initative is actually FOR, right?" and proceeds to tell me that my perceptions are completely wrong. That the proposition is actually for human cloning (which it specifically says in the proposition that it is NOT for) and that they are going to create embryonic clones, which they will then place in 'host' women, which will carry the babies to almost full term, at which point the babies will be removed prematurely and their kidney, for example, will be removed and transplated into an adult, killing the baby.

Now...

at this point, I'm flipping out.

2 reasons. One this guy is giving me medical treatment. giving me medications to use off-label, such as epilepsy meds, because it 'may help' the nerve issue. He's recommending these kind of things and yet is spouting the kind of removed-from-reality extreme xtian fundie boogeyman scenarios that you associate with Jimmy Swaggert, not a medical professional who is supposed to be guided by science. Second, due to the 'non-abuse contract' this guy is my SOLE source for pain meds. If he doesn't auth my refill, I have NO pain meds and can't get any more. At lease not without changing every Dr. I have which is not a quick and/or easy prospect. So, I've got this frozen smile on my face, nodding politely, freaking out internally. I say "ok, well I'm experiencing a lot of pain beyond normal" and he finally gets on to the treatment thing, but his disposition to me has notablly changed.

So we're going through things and he's getting on me saying that I've been on pain meds too long (which I agree with) and that I need to get off them (which I also agree with). I tell him this and say "look we have a short term issue and long term issue. Short term I'm in massive pain, long term we need to find the cause of this, and I need YOUR help getting written referrals that I can give my insurance company so I can fight with them to get authorization for a new neuro and othro Dr." His reaction is to blow this off saying I don't need him to do that, that I can fight the insurance company and they will eventually cave in. Now, having had too much experience with insurance companies in trauma treatment experiences I'm thinking "you are fucking WRONG asshole" but keep my mouth shut, because, again, if I piss him off I have no meds.

He then launches back on the pain med abuse tirade and how hydrocodone is the most abused drug in america (I'm on Norco, which is like Vicodin's big angry cousin with a steel pipe and a bad temper) and I say I know this, and that's how you end up with situations like Courtney Love and Rush Limbaugh.

He FREEZES and starts saying "well Rush had REAL PAIN he needed to deal with, the only thing he did wrong was choose to treat himself rather than go through a Dr. He has to do that show day in and day out, no matter what! So, that's why he did what he did!"

And, pain meds or no, I can't keep my mouth shut. I say "Ummm, look... I'm in charge of the entrie creative department at my company, I work 12-14 hours a day, usually 6 days a week, and I have four kids that I am a very active parent with and spend any time I am not working with THEM. I get four hours sleep a night MAX, so sorry I don't buy that Rush with his 3 hour radio show a day NEEDED to do or was right in doing what he did."

Things got very uncomfortably silent and the Dr. told me "Look you have until Dec. 30th to show me that you are getting some kind of medical progress on this issue, or I'm not going to treat you (read: give pain meds) anymore" What that translates to? *I* have to find a new ortho and neuro and I have to get my insurance, an HMO, to agree to cover it or I pay out of pocket. HE will not write referrals or help in this matter at all because it is 'not his place'.

I finally got the refill, so I'm good for 20 days, and am now calling my insurance company to report this guy and start the long process of getting suth'd for another pain treament group.

I honestly was freaked and in shock for the entire day. I still cannot believe it actually happened. It was like a bad satire of the boogyman that everyone holds uyp as the worst aspects of the right, incarnate as a living being, and HE'S my Dr.

jesus fucking christ on a pogo stick.

OK, sorry for the long long story. Thought some of you might appreciate it. Thos who were annoyed by it's length, my sincere apologies.

As if I haven't written enough already...

Melissa - I've had a lot of friends and relatives have malignant and non-malignant moles removed. Even on your face, it isn't that big of a deal if caught early. Don't panic, you're doing the right thing and it will likely not even be noticable!
good luck :)

Posted by: Rantz at November 5, 2004 10:00 AM

Rantz - THAT'S BULL SHIT!! Your doctor needs to find another profession!!!! How completely unethical of him!!! Can you report him to a discipline board? These right wing religous fundamentalists!!! I'm sick of them!! Rush Limbaugh can do anything he wants because he is a right-wing sounding board - I don't think so!!!

Sorry, this just pisses me off to no end because now we have to deal with this mentality for another 4 more years and I'm still raw over the election -

"If it's less than quarter inch in diameter and flat and just plain old light brown, you shouldn't fret"

Unfortunately, this is not always true...please be cautious...Hubby's mole was nothing more than a tiny (I mean tiny, tiny) dark, flat speck...was not why he went it, we were not concerned with it at all, and it would have killed him had it not been "accidentally" caught.

Because his was a stage 3, with stage 4 being the worst, they did a "wedge cut" biopsy...because melanoma tends to travel downward. They cut a very deep wedge out of his shoulder and, even with all of that, the scar has healed very nicely.

Melissa, you are not being reactionary, you are being smart. A tiny bit of scarring is nothing if it means saving your life...scars will fade, cancer will not.

I'm not trying to scare you or anyone else, Melissa...but, I have lost about 50% of my family to cancer and I'm just wanting to point out that when it comes to cancer, you can never be too cautious.

Posted by: Cori at November 5, 2004 10:17 AM

Rantz- Straight up bullshit, I agree. Since when do Doctor's and Politic mix? Un-ethical oh yeah. God forbid you said your where Muslim or and Atheist. Who does this Doctor think he is? As per Rush Limbaugh, I would take great pleasure in observing him being strapped to Dave's Marshall stack with the gain on up to ten and a 100 watts bleeding his ears. However, this is the mentality we are going to have to deal with. I am better than that, change is coming... 1458 days left till election and I'm counting down.

Cori, Thank you, thank you, thank you for being so compasionate. With my family history, I just don't wait things like this out. I have VERY fair skin and I used to go tanning which was pointless because I just burned and then turned off-white. So, I'm thinking this isn't necessarilly a good sign butit could be nothing. By the way if you ever want Carmens and yourslefs pictures drawn let me know. All I would need is the pic you wanted.

Melissa and Cori... I hope you guys didn't think I was trying to minimize Melissa's situation or make her feel that she was overreacting. Cori is obviously a more informed authority on skin cancer than I am, and by all means, we should all heed her advice. I tend to be highly reactionary and dramatic about everything, so I had been hoping to ease Melissa's worries, knowing that waiting to find out about your health can be maddening. I agree... go to the doctor. But don't worry yourself sick before you get there, Melissa... We're all hoping for you that it's harmless. PS I know the feeling about tanning pointlessly. I might as well be see-through. :-)

Rantz.... jeez louise. Your doctor is a prick. And I'm sorry to hear that your situation makes it especially difficult to just look him in the face and say "fuck you." I've actually done this with several doctors, but I don't have anything that requires such diligent attention and major medication. What a jerk! What's his phone number? But seriously, good luck with that situation. I wish I had good advice to give, but I don't.

Posted by: NightBird at November 5, 2004 11:20 AM

NightBird, no, no, no, I didn't take it that way at all! I would never think that you would minimize the situation, you just gave some facts. I'm almost positive that my new friend on my face is probably nothing. I wouldn't have even posted anything about it except that I really wanted some input - and I am a little freaked out about it. Personally, of everything going on today, I'm more upset about Rantz's doctor - that is not as easily fixed...

~Melissa~

Posted by: Melissa at November 5, 2004 11:58 AM

Rantz~you absof*inglutely have to report this doc to the boards. There is NO REASON you should be subjected to something like this!!!! Even if they can't prove he wasn't going to give you meds if you didn't agree with his ideology, you NEVER should be made to feel as if he wouldn't. The state needs to be alerted to that fact.

I would also ask if you've ever considered acupuncture along with your current methods of pain management? I HIGHLY recommend it. If you have any questions about it, feel free to contact me.
I've been going for ongoing problems, and while that has been more gradual, I was at my usual appointment, and was in misery due to pain in my jaw (TMJ) that any OTC pain relief couldn't touch. I mentioned that to him, he put three needles on either side of my face, and while I lay there, the pain eased, eventually left, and I have NOT had pain since. This was at least three months ago.

Lastly, I know alot of people are bummed about the election, but let me just say this....we should be VERY thankful that Mr. Trial Laywer/Malpractice Bullshit isn't anywhere near the White House. People like him are the reason the healthcare in this country is out of control & the reason why Rantz is going to have such a hard time getting new docs. It makes me sick!!!! (which is not a good thing, considering the state of affairs!!)

Posted by: Lori_in_PA at November 5, 2004 12:11 PM

Rantz, I agree with the accupunture suggestion, however do your research, where as i am a supporter of the practice, i also know people who have had bad experiences. Go to someone HIGHLY reccomended!

have a great weekend all!

All~

thanks for the words of support. The whole situation left me so freaked all day yesterday that I was completely shaken up. I've lost a lot of friends to drugs, and while I've never had an addiction problem, it makes me hypersensitive to the fact that I have to take painkillers to have a 'normal' life. Regardless of the fact that I am in massive amounts of pain without them, part of me still feels like "Dude, you're taking drugs... fucking junkie."

I am reporting this guy for sure. My main goal yesterday was , just get the stuff from him then you have 20 days to work the HMO to try and get a different Dr. and get this guy reported as being unethical and unprofessional.

Lori~ I've really wanted to try acupuncture, looked into it a little bit, bit (shocker) the insurance won't cover it, so it's an out-of pocket cost and up to this point I haven't wanted to spend the money on something that *might* help. i'm rapidly getting to the point where I am thinking 'whatever it takes.' so I may be emailing you for your thoughts on it, thanks for the offer :)

ok, enough of my medical drama shit. Depressing stuff. Sorry all.

Nightbird...absolutely not! I understand perfectly that you were trying to be supportive and comforting...something we all need. And Melissa, I apologize if I was too blunt...I just tend not to pull any punches when it comes to cancer...that awful disease has had too big an impact on my life.

As I said, since you've just noticed it, I really am sure that it's probably just fine...and I am thrilled to hear you are going to get it checked out next week. Please give us an update when you do. :)

good luck rantz and Dave can we get some info on yesterday's show?? I can't wait to hear details.

Posted by: wendybird at November 5, 2004 04:15 PM

I can relate Rantz, though my HMO 'horror story' is not as severe as yours.

I'm on Esgic, a pain pill for severe migraines, thankfully I don't take them all that often, less than every 2-3 months. But when those migraines hit, I get the full deal...excruciating pain, vomitting, chills, quiet sounds register as loud noise etc. I can't even sleep, the pillow feels like a rock & lying down makes the nausea worse. I can't take any of the other newer migraine meds because of my high blood pressure. Plus, as I am also so allergic to most medications, my doctor feels it's best to stick with something that works & doesn't cause any allergic reactions.

Sometimes the migraines last for 2 days! The pills are pretty expensive, my HMO coverage doesn't cover ANY medications. My doctor said for the pills to really work I have to take them when I feel the 'signs of the migraine' coming on! Sometimes there is no warning.

I too unfortunately belong to an HMO, I pay 100% out of pocket, almost $4,000 a year, with NO medications! So God forbid I need to be on very expensive medications, forget about it.

I'm a freelance graphic designer. I might have to drop this insurance soon & not have any, because I know when it goes up in January, I can't afford the huge amount it'll most likely be raised to. There are no deductibles, it's basically 100% coverage, except the medications.

I can't get 'free' medical, ie; Medicaid, because I am not destitute. I own property, I have my retirement savings which I put my own money into over my many years of being self employed. You have to prove that you have almost zero savings to be able to get free or even very low cost medical insurance in this country.

I joined this HMO almost 20 years ago, when I had one main, well paying graphics account. Thanks to 9/11, Bush, outsourcing or whoever else is to blame, I lost that main account in late 2001. Steady graphics accounts have been few & far between after 9/11 in NYC. ' 9/11' has been a very convienent excuse for many employers to downsize & generally become greedy, but that's a whole other issue.

BTW, why would right wing fundamentalist religious freaks approve of killing cloned babies to get their organs?? Aren't they usually totally oppossed to all that stuff?? Your doctor sounds completely off his rocker, if he claimed to be a conservative & made those statements to you.

Whatever your docs political affliations, he sounds like an utter asshole & should be reported. Politics & religion have absolutely NO place in a doctors office! He actually sounds like he might be on some recreational meds! You'd be surprised the drug abuse that goes on in the medical profession.

In all my years belonging to an HMO, not one of my doctors has ever talked politics or religion with me. We chat, but it's about music, some stupid movie or TV show. You doctor certainly has some very warped issues going on which are unfortunately affecting his WORK as a professional.

Report this moron immediately!

Btw, I usually don't have any problems with my HMO. If I don't like the specific specialist they send me to, I can see any other specilist who's on the list. Fortunately many docs participating in this HMO are also in private practice, so I lucked out with some good doctors. Though the first doctor I saw there diagnosed the migraines as 'severe sinus headaches'!!

Posted by: itanja at November 5, 2004 04:24 PM

Melissa~ I'm sorry to hear about the mole, hope it's nothing dangerous. I know how you feel about cancer, everyone I know who's ever died has died from it too (plus, my Pooch has it)
So anyway, I hope you'll be well and that you've caught it early on.

Rantz~ Hmmm...

Hi Melissa,

There is no such thing as overreacting when it comes to ones health!

I am very fair skinned myself, thankfully I've never liked the sun & rarely went to the beach, even as a child. On sunny daysI always use sunblock. Recently I had a very small mole removed near my right nostril. It was getting bigger, I knew it wasn't a pimple.

Thankfully, I have a great dermatologist at my HMO, she always listens to her patients & welcomes their input. She cut the small mole out the same day I showed it to her. It was biopsied & everything was fine, but she stressed to always check your body for moles or 'beauty marks' which change. Never dismiss anything that looks 'different' from the last time you looked at it.

Sure, now I have a tiny indentation where the mole was removed, but I'd rather have that small scar than risk it being cancer. If it was ignored, I might have ended up with a much more severe deformity or something fatal.

A longtime friend died about 2 years ago from skin cancer which travelled to her brain. She was a total sports enthusiast; always in the sun playing tennis, skiing, swimming etc. She assumed since she was olive complexioned that she didn't need to use a stronger sun block, most times she just didn't use any at all. She had melanoma which unfortunately spread to her brain.

I tell everyone to ALWAYS be more pro-active concerning your health, it seems 90% of the time, the patients themselves catch the lumps & other problems. Unfortunately, the average doctors office visit is usually only 15 minutes! After waiting almost an hour (or longer), the patients are then always rushed. UNREAL!

If you think you are going to forget all the things you have to tell the doctor or all the places you found a mole etc... bring a list....after all......it's YOUR life! Don't worry about keeping your doctor from their important golf game!

I had another biopsy recently, in addition to the one for the mole, it was much more invasive than the mole removal, it's too personal to get into here....Suffice to say.....PLEASE check your body! Especially women.

Take care of yourselves.....you only have ONE body!

Itanja~

yeah one of the reasons I stopped living strictly off freelance was the insurance.

You misunderstood. Mr. Fundie Extreme Dr. was going off on why the prop was bad because HE said it supported harveting of babies at almost near term. Agree with the loony behavior thing, people dosing on 4-way windowpane have more logical assumptions and stances.

Not that I would know, mind you (whistles at ceiling)

FYI This is a tidbit of the show last night. I got it from the CF board:

"I was at the show last night at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino in Vegas. It was a small private party for Chrome Hearts- an exclusive clothing/leather/silver outfitter. Chrome Hearts just opened a new store at the new Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. If you have never experienced CHrome Hearts merchandise- it's a must- and the new Vegas store will blow your mind.

The venue was the Body English, a small private bar area inside the Hard Rock.

I was there to support Chrome Hearts and was not expecting this power line up for an exclusive private party.

The line up was similar to what I see posted October 23. Navarro, Leitch, Sorum, Morrison, Duffy...I was completely caught off guard so the set is somewhat vague- but again- similar to Oct. 23.

Guests were C. Love- Lisa from Hole, S. Weiland, Duff and Slash from G-n-R, J. Cantrell, S. Tyler...

They kept bringing these rockers out one by one until they created the most amazing stage line-up known to man. By the end of the show there were 4-5 guitarists and all belting out lyrics alongside Mr. Tyler.

In attendance was Pam Anderson, Cher, and a few other stars.

It was unbelievable. I'll post more as I recall more...

enjoy~

Hey Everyone,

WHOA. Just checking in quickly before bedtime, and I see a lot of heartbreaking and disturbing stuff. To all of you facing medical difficulties, I wish you the best of luck and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

And on a happier note, to Deena and anyone else I may have forgotten... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Love,
-Denise

Now I know why Scott Weiland is pointing to a Chrome Hearts chain bracelet he's wearing, on the front of Kerrang. I figured, he was like looky here at my Chrome Hearts bracelet totally in the cover pic anyway.

Love, hugs, and empathy for everyone here dealing with health problems, the health care/insurance..etc. i feel for you a lot. Reading it all has made me so angry; but I have been, am still dealing with a long term health problem myself. I have dealt with the same kind of outrageous doctors that you describe Rantz. I've switched doctors many times. I've had many different diagnosis depending on the doctor, or specialist. I've tried tons of meds. I'm also sensitive to them too Itanja, and have been very ill on some. Coincidentally, I also have severe migraines, but I also have sinus headaches, and TMJ! (and down my neck, spine)So they may be all interrelated. I am in pain all the time. If I ran though all the stuff I've been through..it would be a very long book.
Anyway, I was working and married with a young son, and had to go on disability because of the pain.
I also moved back to the UK mainly because of the health care I would get here. Not the only reason, but one of them. It was such a fight all the time in the US.
I've had some wacky doctors here too, and I've walked out on them. But none as bad as the fundie docs. I find it interesting, we all seem to share the same types, or similar types of complaints. Makes me wonder.
My heart goes out to you all.
Hugs Lisa xxxx

PS. The best advice I had here was from a very intelligent caring man working in the "Citizen's Advice Bureau" here in UK. He said, "Don't let the bastards get you down." Simple but true, and it made me laugh coming from someone in authority especially.
I picture that in my mind when I start getting infuriated over health care and the like.

The other thing, that has helped me has been doing art, even at my worst. Without worrying what it would turn out like.

Love to all Lisa xxxx

Hi folks

I've been reading the bad doctor posts on here and you ain't alone

A week ago i visited my Dr. with the following symptoms:
A real dip in energy:my g/f noticed i've been walking noticably slower than usual,i usually tear around.
and my job is really physical.

Dizzyness:especially when i'm outside.

I've also noticed my hands trembling every now and then.

I got pretty concerned by all this and reported it to my Dr. who checked me over:eyes, ears, throat and pulse.
He didn't seen all that interested and said to me" if i had a pound for everyone who came in here and said they wern't feeling right i'd be a rich man" to which i replied "thats your fucking job isn't it,and on what you probably earn your richer than me"

I got told to buy some multi-vitamins!!!

I wanted to know what was causing all these things, especially as i had to come home from work because of it.

I know it's not as serious health issue as some of you guys on here but my Doctors attitude sucked all the same.

Hey Guys.....

I know we all have become kinda one big family...so if you haven't heard, Steve and Riss' place was robbed last night...they lost some very important stuff...some affecting the TPC website and other band material. If y'all get a chance...hop over to Steve's blog and wish him and Riss your best...he needs our support. Best wishes for all dealing with health problems...hope everyone is better very soon. Our prayers in numbers can do wonderfull things...we are a family.

Take Care

Steve L. Hi! :D
I know that doctor! :P
If you still feel ill, go to the emergency room. They'll take care of it properly. I've done it. I am serious!
Once I did it because my doctor didn't call me back, and when I told him i'd gone to the emergency room for the pain, he said, "I didn't know you were in that much pain." Stupid. I wouldn't complain about it unless it was bad! Oo I was in AGONY, and scared. That stuff just scares you, and some doctors need to learn better bedside manners with regards to that.

He probably hasn't a clue what it is. That's what's really going on, but the emergency docs will check you over, chat with you, reassure you, and give you any pills, whatever you need.

Okay, it sounds outrageous to go to emergency, but that's how they've set our system up.

hey steve, i have some of those symptoms sometimes, and when i start eating products with a lot or iron in them the dizzyness disapears. i eat things like spinach and other simular vegetables, cause someone told me i might have an iron-shortage. when i get tired real quick, or dizzy when i stand up or do things too quick, it always works for me. maybe you have something completely different, and this is no long term solution, but maybe it will help a bit for now.
i don't really believe in those vitaminpills, i'm more the 'eat a lot of vegetables and brown bread with cheese' kinda girl..maybe this iron-vegetables-thing will work for you too?
good luck, emma

Dave - you don't look very happy in those pics...everything ok?

Posted by: Cori at November 6, 2004 05:45 AM

Lias and Emma, thanks for that advise,i'll bear that in mind,i feel better since going to the docs, more of a spring in my step.
Wot worried me was the woozyness and trembling hands.

Still,a Doctor should be able to reassure you without making you feel like your wasting they're time.

I work in a nursing home(i'm the gardener/groundsman/dogs-body)and the home manager there has a well versed background in the medical side of things so i got a second opinion from her.She even wanted to phone my doctor up to tell him off.lol
She's probably the best boss i've ever had,she takes no shit but she's a fair person.Kudo's to my boss (you don't hear that everyday!!!)

Just read about Steve Issacs robbery.

Anyone out ther beleive in Karma, reap what you sow kinda thing.I do.I believe that if anyone does something bad to you that in some point in their life they will pay for it.

You wouldn't have to physically be involved in the pay back, just leave it to fate,i take great comfort in that belief, even though i will be upset/angry and want to extract revenge on my terms,i don't do it,i really believe that it will happen without me having anything to do with it.Could happen in 5 years or 50 years but it will happen eventually.

My philosophy on wrong-do'rs.lol

I hope Steve gets his stuff back.

Steve~sounds like you got it sorted then, thanks to your boss? she does sound nice. :D
I dunno about the karma thing though but would enjoy chatting about it more with you. I've got a good reason to believe otherwise on that. :S I won't try to convince you from your own beliefs though, you know, just tell you my stuff about it. :D

I just have to say Bijou looks fantastic in those photos. She looks healthy and happy. That makes me happy. :-)

Good health wishes to all who are suffering... No offense, but the site has been a bit of a downer in the past 24. Anyone got a good joke? (Sorry, I guess I'm a "sweep the pain under the carpet" type of gal.)

Please smile, people.

Posted by: NightBird at November 6, 2004 09:33 AM

Hey -

Nightbird - I'm all for lightening up the mood. (At the same time, my heart goes out to all of you. Your situations make the cold that I have pale in comparison!)

I can't think of any jokes off the top of my head at the moment, but I always enjoy talking about fun stuff. Like fashion/style, etc. I just checked out the Getty images link, and I agree that Bijou looks very good these days. I also think that Jerry Cantrell should shave more often, because it makes him look 20 years younger and 1,000 times better. Goatees look great on Dave, not on Jerry. As for Dave, I agree that he looks a tad ... I don't know... preoccupied. But we all have our moments, don't we. It must be really difficult for a celebrity to be "on" all the time.

Useless tidbit of info... I'm going to a wedding tonight for two of our friends. This couple actually met at our wedding, which is nice. The point is ...that this reminds me that Dave and Carmen's anniversary is coming up very, very soon.

So Dave... Happy (early) Anniversary to you and Carmen!

Cheers,
-Denise
