Feelin Like A Monday
1. If I were to sit and write some stuff, should I keep it to myself? Should I send it to someone? I mean i could write and write, but what good does it do me if I don't share it? Any thought?
That is kind of a personal decision. Some people like to share, others don't. It sounds like you do as you are asking, so I say, why not? Go for it.
2. Are you a vegetarian?
No. I used to be. I eat chicken and fish, but no red meat or pork.
3. Happy thanksgiving... while doing my daily DN memoriblia search I came accross this... is it really yours?
I don't remember that guitar. It kind of looks like the one from the Warped video but I am not certain. The signatures appear to be authentic. It's quite possible.
4. DAVE!!! ok, CSI boy, what has changed in your perspective since watching all those crime dramas and cases....does it sharpen an already suspicious nature, or are you more careful when you go out in public not to leave any water bottles behind...?
Just find them interesting. As for the bottles, I couldn't care less as I don't plan on killing anyone.
5. Dave- do you cook or does Carmen??
We had two really great friends, Amy and Sugar, cook up an amazing spread for about 16 people last night. Thanx again girls!

Hey Dave @ friends!
Question for you Dave? Has Perk abandoned his website or is he just lax about it? He hasnt been active since early summer. I understand he has other more pressing and exciting endevours to attend to, but I was just curious. Can not wait to see TPC live, hopefully a show in Boston will come up sometime. Happy Holidays!

Hey!
Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm a Swedish girl living in London, UK so I don't celebrate Thanksgiving.. but anyway! I have 2 quick questions, one of which I've asked before but anyway!
1. Where did you find your stylist? I'm a stylist myself and could use some info on how different people hook up with their stylists, because I'm considering moving to LA soon...
2. Do you watch Scrubs? Ya like it? I myself am addicted to it :)
Take care now, and happy thanksgiving to everyone!!

Happy Days All,
I'd like to take a guess at Dave's favorite song to play from Trents question. I think Three Days is the most fun and satisfying song to play live. The solo alone always lifts me! Have a Great few days off!

Hello? how's my family?
I have been watching the Law and Order marathon today, I had forgotten all about the early years, before Sam Waterston, before Benjamin Bratt, before...whoever the girl is they have now...Did you guys know that ALL the Law and Order's are filmed in New York City? Jezzi's trivial piece of useless info du jour...
HEY!!! I have a favor to ask... I am going to email some of you, but for those I don't know, I was hoping you would send my cherubs a Christmas Card...It's a cool way to teach them letter writing skills, poetry, and geography, as well as different Christmas traditions both here and abroad...click on my name below and I will send you my school's address....
DAVE!!! of course that means you too!! It would be my urchins' 'brush with greatness', their first 'celebrity' encounter....
Thanks in advance, everyone

Really looking forward to Dec. 2nd!

Kia ora Dave and family!
I have a quick question, Dave .. who do you think is the most unnoticed guitarist in music today? To me it's gotta be Mike Enziger of Incubus. The man is simply incredible! What he plays ..how he plays .. the sounds he make his guitars make. It's ineffable. I can sit for hours and watch their DVDs just to watch him play.

Hello everyone!
Since quitting retail, I rarely go to a store on the day after Thanksgiving. I did today. What an outing!
One thing I have tried to establish with my son during this time is to tell why you are giving thanks. So I would like to thank all of you - especially Dave for giving us this forum! I have "met" some outstanding people, along with Mr. Navarro, and it enlightens my life.
I appreciate all of you!
Always,
me

hope everyone's thanksgiving was awesome including dave's and that everyone is gearing up for x-mas! love you all so much!

Wow, quiet around here today!
Happy Friday to all; I did the marathon shopping this morning and ended the evening with the verifiable flu. No kidding, nasal swab and all, I have the flu. Woe is me. Alas, my body's defense has gone asunder. A pox upon who gave this to me. bah.
Okay, enough of that, I'm off to bed - I hate when you ache so much it hurts for the covers to touch your skin...(okay, i guess it wasn't quite enough of that!)
Jezzi, I'd love to send your cherubs card(s); let me know, k?
Posted by: Aimee at November 26, 2004 05:45 PM
Cori and Aimee!!!! You ROCK!!! I am feeling so excited right now, I am SO looking forward to Monday, I miss my minions!! I know they are probably going to be BURSTING at the seams with stories to tell me!
Misty! My kids LOVE Lemony Snicket, although that baby with the mouth full of teeth puts me off a bit...is her name Suzy? I think it is, I have a little sister named Susie, who was prone to biting herself...Anyway, Dave, take her up on recommendation, the Jim Carrey movie is actually a compilation of first 3 volumes, there are 10 in all, quite funny...and the author introduces each one with his own special brand of sardonic wit I am sure you can relate too!
Emily! Where is that tavern? When I went to New York last time, seeing a taping of Law and Order, ANY Law and Order, was one of the things I missed, that, and the MOMA...cause it was in QUEENS at the time....I'll be back, I think in March, and I will have a East Coast 6767 meetup!! Holla!!
jezebel(come on guys, it's for the KIDS!)
Posted by: jezebel at November 26, 2004 06:07 PM
Hey, what's wrong with QUEENS, jezzi?? I have a very beautiful NYC skyline view from where I live in Queens!
It's the BEST of both worlds....very close proximity to NYC (as are certain parts of Brooklyn...Park Slope & Brooklyn Heights are gorgeous!)....a NYC view... ALL without the outrageous NYC rents ($3,000 a month & UP anyone? Be MY guest! lol) & general craziness.
Posted by: itanja at November 26, 2004 06:17 PM
EEEEEK!, once again, the misunderstood....
Itanja, when we went to New York, we didn't have unlimited cabfare, so we were limited to places within walking distance, as it was, we walked many miles. Our hotel was the Doubletree in Times Square, we walked to the Public Library, MTV, Virgin Records, Toys R us, Empire State Building ,up and down 5th Avenue, St. Pat's, The Met, the Museum of Natural History, all around Central Park, the Dakota, phew, although we did cheat a bit by taking subway to Ground Zero, Wall Street, Washington Square, Greenwich Village, and the Staten Island Ferry to see Statue of Liberty...No amount of convincing could get my travel companions to go to Queens on the subway just to see a Van Gogh...crazy kids....I love Queens, I love ALL of New York, and, rest assured, when I return, I will make a special trip there...
jezebel(seasoned traveler?)
Posted by: jezebel at November 26, 2004 06:30 PM
Emily......'Fraunces Tavern'!! The the last time I was there, I was about 8, on a school outing! lol I stil have the collectbles I bought there.
Btw.....Law & Order' is actually filmed in NYC, Brooklyn & sometimes in my neighborhood, Long Island City.
Dave Chapelle has even filmed some stuff out in the streets here, near the industrial part of my neighborhood. Certain parts of my area also resemble the West Village, with quaint tree lined brownstoned streets.
In fact, they just filmed a 'L&O Criminal Intent' here a few weeks ago. My dads street was blocked off in the morning, he couldn't get his car out of the garage!
A friend in Brooklyn, he lives in an area called Fort Green, sees the 'Law & Order' & 'Third Watch' crews all the time, they always seem to be filming near his block.
Here's some MORE trivia...'CSI: NY' is actually filmed in California. They just come into NYC to shoot the outside scenes all at once, then head back to the West Coast.
The other shows filmed in NYC are 'L&O, Special Victims Unit' (or whatever that ones called!), 'Hope & Faith' & 'Third Watch'.
'Sex And The City' & 'The Sopranos' were filmed at Silvercup Studios, which is actually about 7 long blocks from where I live. The rest of the exterior Sopranos scenes are filmed in New Jersey. The actual Soprano house interior has been re-created in the Silvercup Studios.
I've never seen any NYC based celebs around here filming on the streets, I always seem to hear about it after the fact. Though I do live near the main drag which takes their limos to the 59th Street Bridge on their way back into NYC. Come to think of it, I did once see Chris Meloni in Costco buying toilet paper! lol
I should have gone on the "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" trivia edition show recently, I would have, at least, won a few thousand bucks! lol
Posted by: itanja at November 26, 2004 06:30 PM
mmmmmm.....Chris Meloni.....mmmmmm
jezebel(excuse me, was that one or two ply?)
Posted by: jezebel at November 26, 2004 06:36 PM
Well the MOMA is now back in NYC....the only 'museums' left in my area are: 'The Museum of The Moving Image' at the Kaufmann Astoria Studios, the Noguchi Museum which is a few blocks from my apartment & P.S.1, the huge former school, now a massive art gallery.
Funny to see all the 'hipsters', who would have never set foot in Queens, suddenly thinking it's so cool to now come here to check out the art scene (there actually is none!) & buy lofts! lol
As a longtime resident, I get a total kick out of the people now deeming my neighborhood 'hip'. There was a whole three page 'New York Times' article about it recently. It's called 'gentrification', we neighborhood people are mighty amused & a bit turned off.
Well, we are certainly not amused by the rising prices of food & stuff.....
Posted by: itanja at November 26, 2004 06:44 PM
So much of the Sopranos is filmed literally, within a mile of where I live and a big chunk of the intro is my neighborhood. It's kind of neat to see places so close to where I live actually make it to TV.
Shopping today was such a trip. I was online outside Best Buy at 5:30am to buy a 199.00 computer & monitor package for my mom. Turns out there were about 800 other people there for the same reason, and the 15 of them that the store had in stock were sold out before I got in the door. I did get a webcam for 4.99 though. Pretty good deal. At least the trip wasn't wasted.
So, what's the plan for CFR tomorrow?
Spreading the turkey leftovers,
Deena
Posted by: Deena13 at November 26, 2004 09:04 PM
oooh, Deena, that was me a few years ago, when the nieces, nephews, and son was still old enough to appreciate presents over cold hard cash. It's kind of what I liked about working retail, if my store didn't sell it, they didn't get it!! Of course, come Monday, I must think of useful ways to use egg cartons, popsicle sticks, and cans for my cherubs' Christmas gifts!! I once received a Mary and Joseph made of toilet paper rolls and a clothespin baby Jesus....I am crafty!!
oh, hey everybody, when was the last time you visited Deena's Calendar of Events?
Lyn...thank you.....

AHHHHH the joys of retail! I got the enjoyable experience of woking today (4 years in retail first job in the mall)! On my way in to start my shift at 8 after witing 1/2 an hour in the cold to catch the employee shuttle I saw 2 people sleeping on a bench outside surrounded by bags and bags of deals. Later in the day I waited in line for a little over 20 min at Starbucks to get my needed nourishment. after my lunch i was witness to a nice little yelling match between 2 women in the Jr.'s department across the isle over the last of something. When I finaly made it home I crashed hard. Hope everyone had a more enjoyable day than I did.
Sorry I needed to tell someone about my day. See you all on the 2nd

Itanja, that's such a trip about Queens. I knew, sooner or later, the "hipsters" would make it there, driving up the property values. Queens had about as much appeal as stale fish when I was in Brooklyn, about 15 years ago (mostly). I knew I should've found some investors to be buying up some property, I just knew it. Another one of those lost opportunities, but I guess one can always look back, especially at real estate/stocks, and say, you know I could've, should've, almost....but looking back doesn't pay very well, and is a waste of energy. I mean, I went to work when I was 16 at a Treasure Island store (speaking of retail-long since bankrupt) pushing grocery carts. Then, this little store opened up next to us that sold hammers and cases of coca-cola. Yep, you guessed it, the first Home Depot. I plainly remember laughing at the store, as I was one of the very first worldwide shoppers to visit, and seeing lots of boxes piled high up to the ceiling. Came to find out later on, most of those boxes were empty, as Arthur Blank was a genius by fooling creditors into thinking he had tons of inventory. I met a guy the other day that invested 25K in stock when he went to work for them-it's now valued at over 17 MIL. Here I am counting change for gas money. Oh well, what are you gonna do, ya know? But, I'm not dead yet, and there's always hope. Today is a new day. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend. BTW, if anyone can email me as to how to join the CFR chats, I'd appreciate it. Peace!

dave - the original white PRS.. Did it really shatter?
and what were you doing to smash it?
Posted by: b at November 27, 2004 06:23 AM
Hi Lyn.
Well, it seems any area which has a view of the NYC skyline is bound to become 'hip'.
Hoboken (Sinatras' hometown', I think?) in New Jersey, was one of the very first outer boro areas to become gentrified here on the East Coast.
Today the area has 1 mililon & up apartments. Most of the railroad flats were gutted & renovated. New buildings also went up. A few friends from Jersey stayed in this area where they had grown up, they never budged & are now sitting on some pretty expensive real estate. Good for them!
I bought my apartment years ago before real state prices soared, even though the price has more than tripled, I'd have nowhere to go if I sold because I don't want to move to the suburbs. I couldn't afford to buy anything bigger around here for the amount I'd get.
I guess we all have to make do, though I regret not buying a bigger apartment in my co-op complex. Right now, my spare bedroom is being used like large walk-in closet. lol
A 25k investment is now worth 17 million! Unreal!
Coincidence....BBCAmerica's "Ground Force" is on my TV right now, they are in Queens renovating someone's backyard! lol
take care,
itanja
Btw, the actor Chris Meloni (SFU) was also on 'OZ' & re the toilet paper inquiry....he was buying the red label 'Charmin' at Costco & he was with his wife.
Posted by: itanja at November 27, 2004 07:07 AM
Any thoughts on the up and coming band BAT (bad acid trip)?
Posted by: bluved at November 27, 2004 07:08 AM
One more thing Lyn...where did you live in Brooklyn? I lived in Bushwich & Ridgewood when I was very small.
Btw, I think the 'Treasure Island' stores have now re-opened, unless they are using the same name. I've been seeing lots of TV commercials for this store lately, it's a suburban place which sells home furnishings. Right now, they are pushing Christmas decorations.
Posted by: itanja at November 27, 2004 07:19 AM

Hi Steve,
Yes, the men in the US have noticed Charlie~~! lol
The 'Ground Force' crew started filming some of their shows here a few years ago. One of their first assignments was working with Bette Midler's Lower East Side community garden projects. She's been fighting to save neighborhood gardens from the real estate developers.
The 'Ground Force' crew did such great job on one community garden, they kept coming back to do more. They repeat so much on BBCAmerica, I guess it'll be awhile until the new season starts.
I also enjoy, 'Location, Location, Location', 'Changing Rooms' & 'Bargain Hunt' is a trip....was the host, David Dickinson, a former TV personality there? He looks as if he might have been a DJ or working in the music world in the 60 or 70s. He dresses right out of the 1960s....Carnaby Street meets Saville Row! He's very entertaining!
take care,
itanja

hi.
How are you all doing?
I'm a bit bummed out today, not only because my baby~dog is sick but also because I He hardly even spoke to me last night. Then he fucking emails me and tells me it was great that me and my friends came. Well if it was so fucking great then why didn't you care to even speak to me?? I want him to stop playing these games with me, and I can't decide whether to tell him to fuck off or if I should just stay would-be friends with him like nothing. I sort of hate him right now...
Sorry about the rant :p
I hope you're all enjoying your weekend.

Itanja! My goal is to live in Queens and work in the city, but seeing how queens is becoming gentrified...it might be hard by the time i'm ready to set out on my own. It's really hard for the people my age who are just starting out, to buy real estate, when starting prices are not equivalent to starting salaries. I've always loved queens, because it wasn't the extreme hussle and bussle of teh city, but so close. I used to live in Howard Beach for a number of years, and I would LOVE to live in Long Island City, which is a beautiful area. But, it is becoming a very expensive b/c of its nearness to the city. Oh well...I can only hope that when i get out of college, and grad school, that i'll be able to afford something nice. Thanks for the info though. I always love what you (and jezzi and others) have to say :-)
