Kyle... you need to clear your History. Are you using IE or AOL? Those tend to be very stubborn in holding on to old information. If you need more coaching in how to clear your History, let me know.
Dammit, Dave beat me to it. I wanted to be the IT expert. (pout)

This most recent post had me wondering...do you have help updating this site? I know you like computers, but I never saw you as the 'technical support' type. If you are, that just makes you all the more amazing. :-)

Unfortunately, I can't use Safari because my G4 OS is still 9.1~!! I was also told, I can no longer use Quark if I upgrade to OS 10. All my graphics programs are about 5 years old, I haven't upgraded.
An old friend offered to overhaul my Mac for free, but I'll be without a computer for about a week.
Such a dilemma~~!!

Dave- I proudly Rocked my vote at 7:45 AM cali time. Did you vote yet? People please get out there and VOTE!!!!
Brett
Posted by: Brett at November 2, 2004 09:29 AM
Let your friend do it, itanja! Life will be so much easier once you've updated. Quark 6 is mostly great, but it has its drawbacks. OS 10 has its drawbacks as well, but it's a whole new world... so different from OS 9. (I have one boss who refuses to upgrade because she's afraid.) But I fully support being technologically current.

this morning a dutch director and writer has been shot in Amsterdam, Theo van Gogh. at the moment he was making a movie about a dutch politician who has been shot a while ago (Pim Fortuyn). that's kinda freaky, i think.
Theo was someone who never hessitated to give his opinion, for him the freedom of speech was very important. and i think it's pity some twisted mind thinks that shooting the guy is the best solution if you don't like him..
RIP Theo
okay, very excited bout the elections in the meantime. have a good day everyone

So I'm gonna comment on voting...
Me, My Boyfriend and my little brother all went out and voted about 10:30 this morning...all of us under 25...all of us voting for Kerry!
Go!
Vote!
Now!
DO IT!
<3 Marg :)
P.S. I know we have a huge international community here...and I think the american press isn't worth the 35 cents we have to pay to buy the paper...if there is anyone out there who would be willing to send me a copy of their local paper post election please let me know via e-mail!! I'd love to try to get as many post election foreign papers as possible...because today is not just about America's future, it's about the world's future (both from an environmental standpoint and a war standpoint)...atleast according to the papers I read online from the international community
P.P.S. REMEMBER it is your RIGHT to vote...make sure you get to the polls before they close...i'm going to use NJ as an example just cuz it's where I live...polls here close at 8pm...if you get on line at 8pm and there's a 4 hour wait THE POLLS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO REMAIN OPEN UNTIL YOU CAST YOUR VOTE! This isn't just in NJ it's EVERYWHERE
if you have ANY sort of problem voting call 866-OUR-VOTE it's a group of non partisan lawyers who are there to answer your questions and help you out if you were treated unjustly... you can always e-mail or IM me (wetodd3029) if you've got a question, I've been obsessive about following the news for the past few months and I'm here to help!

CD Buys of the Day:
Banyan – Live at Perkins’ Palace-AWESOME! And comes with a sticker of the cover art--bonus!
A Perfect Circle - eMOTIVe
Jane’s Live & Rare
John Frusciante – Inside of Emptiness
And NIN - Into the Void - import from Australia
I definitely have a CD addiction. I am so obsessive now about collecting that I had to buy a new Deconstruction because Dave signed the booklet on my original, and two new TNO CDs because my original skips on Venus and after I got the first I saw another that had a bonus in the form of the Rexall single. I need CD/DVD rehab.

What's crackin' Dave n' fam,
Ah yes I rocked my vote this am here in PA for the first time, had problems!! I had transfered my registration from FL to PA 3 months ago, received my card..thinking everything was straight...HA, I get to the Town Hall..and my name isn't on the "roll" so I can fill out the ballot, I was forced to vote provisional ballot...so I called county headquarters, she looked me up..and proceeded to tell me "oh, your registered, your name should've been on the roll", "why didn't they call here to confirm", "they're supposed to, if they question anyone's registration card".......Oh those old fuckers in there don't know what they're doing!! So I hope my ballot gets counted..because I was surrounded by Republicans standing in line!!!!!
Ah I feel better now, thanx for letting me vent. I hope u's had a smoother vote process! Peace n' luv peeps!!

PANIC SITE UPDATE:
Hi everybody, I found that bug in the pop up windows in the photo libraries. Should be fixed now. I was going nuts Halloween night trying to get this thing up that that one slipped by me. If anyone else is having trouble, lemme know. Also, you might have to allow the panic site to show pop ups if you are on Windows after SP2, there is a pop up blocker by default on IE after that update.
Posted by: Steve Isaacs at November 2, 2004 11:36 AM

Hello All
first post here, hopefully I won't be too much of a raging newb.
With all the talk of voting, was interested to hear if anyone else in the greater LA/OC area had this issue.... I made my selections on the 'wonderful' electronic vote machine, and scrolled forward only to find on the 'review your selections' screen that it had registered 3 of my choices WRONG. I had to scroll back through and then double-check them on the review sheet to make sure the selections were correct.
I know this wasn't user error. I've been doing software development for 10 years now and know my way around these kinds of things. One person at the office has a daughter working at another OC polling place. When she told her daughter about my experience, she said they had multiple instances of that very thing that had been reported at that location.
So, I'm wondering, any of you voters in the socal zones having similar experiences? And, if you haven't voted yet, be sure and check ALL of your selections on the review pages!
On Dave-related stuff, got the book, read it in a day. Good read, heartbreaking at time, but satisfying at the end because ourourborous stops eating his tail. Many times, that sadly isn't the case. TPC stuff sounds lovely. Hope to convince the wife that making the jaunt to the show at the Key Club will be well worth it. Hell, I can always say it's my b-day gift...
Ok, I shall retreat into less vocal newbness now.

Welcome, Rantz! And thank you for your anecdote about your voting experience. Thankfully, they are not using those electronic machines here in NY. But Jezebel gave advice earlier that people who don't want to use the CA electronic machines should request a paper ballot. Isn't that what you suggested, Jez?
And we totally love vocal newbies! Speak up, Rantz...

I got up early today so I could go vote BEFORE work. I proudly cast my vote for John Kerry this morning. I know many people refuse to say who they voted for if they are asked, but I am happy to let people know I want Bush out of office.
I hope all Americans get out today and vote!
Now I am off to work at a polling place, inspecting ballots. It will keep my busy so I won't be pacing the floor tonight!! I'm so nervous!

An energetic election Tuesday around here, I must say. Almost as (jezzi's fave) Rod Stewart doing a cover of Ruby Tuesday on the radio right now (not so energetic really)...
It's really interesting. Every channel n' station is covering the election even here in Finland.
Enough of the election, just vote Kerry, especially if you're in Florida, Ohio or Pennsylvania...
Checked out the TPC site earlier and liked it a lot. Good job! Thank you boyz!
BTW Noticed a nice little detail about the game GTA San Andreas although I haven't played it yet. There's a guy called Tommy Smith (I think) whose voice is....Axl Rose.

Georgina's post made me go back and think whether it was Oct 22 or Nov 22 last year that I saw you live with JA in Stockholm, Sweden. Well, too long ago, anyway. I really outta consider traveling to L.A. I haven't been there since May 2000 and that's too long ago, too. *Cos I really miss Santa Monica. Welcome Rantz, thanks for the voting info, and thanks, too, Adina and Pekka for the mention of my name!!! Attention whore that I am.....loving it!!
Please, people, if you MUST do it electronically, review your vote. Wonderful documentary on Sundance last night about the fact that most of these electronic voter machines are susceptible to FRAUD!! from computer hackers that can change your vote, to the fact that recounts aren't able to be done electronically, you will get the same result each time, there is NO HARD COPY...There was even a case of a guy in Ohio that was running for office, yet OWNED the company that made the electronic voting machines....hmmm, do you think he won? OF Course he did
ok, back to me....
DAVE!!!! Camp Freddy-Vegas-Jezebel-Birthday....Did I mention I have MAD poker skills!!!

I'm so concerned about the election that I'm still up (it's 3:40 am here) watching the CBS Campaign '04 broadcast and listening to Indie online 'cos there ain't no decent radio stations in here.
Jezzi, we just had the municipal election and somewhere in the east some guy who was running for the office got to take part in counting the votes in his own municipality! How screwed is that?
Noticed another cool detail: Perk played percussions on RATM's "Rage Against The Machine" album which I definitely include in my TOP 5 '90s albums. Perk just keeps amazing me!
Posted by: Pekka at November 2, 2004 05:46 PM
Wow, thanks one and all for the really great and open welcome. Shocking somewhat, but very nice ;)
Been a Dave/Jane's fan since the Scream days back around 86-87. I was even one of the crazy bastards that bought Deconstruction.
Met Dave a couple of times (Hi Dave) and have all sorts of weird little stories (real stuff, not weird little stories like 'ok let me tell you about a strange and mystical badger named wallace'.) that if any of you are interested, I can post from time to time. Walking cautiously into the fray here. From experience there's pretty much nothing more annoying than someone who appears on a forum and does the "Hey all, I am really fucking cool, I R0x0rz!!!" thing. so. Want to avoid being that guy.
And, to answer the question, yes Rantz is my real name. No, it's not an internet invention :).
In parting, I will say this. If I don't like bush in my bedroom, why would I want it in the Whitehouse?

Hi everyone. those of you who sent good vibes our way when my dad had his heart surgery we could use them again. A couple of days ago he developed a pulmonary embolism, and almost died. he survived, but things are bad. he's going to be laid up for quite a while. my wife has been sick and her company is threatening to fire her if she doesn't go back to work, even though she is still ill. not only would we loose half our income but our health insurance too. on top of this the small company I work for has been bought out. my job is protected for the time being but I'm not sure how long I will stick around. I hope Kerry wins but a lot of people here in FL who have agreed with me about how screwed up things are told me today they voted the curent dumbass anyway. Jezzi I hope your birthday tomorrow is better than mine will be. sorry not trying to bring anyone down but I needed to rant.

Hey Dave,
Have you ever considered getting a nose ring? I think you would look awesome with one, especially looking at some of those pictures on the TPC site. Which, by the way, looks extraordinary. Steve did an amazing job, it really looks amazing.
But, seriously, you should consider it. I just got mine (I'll try to get some pictures together soon) and I love mine, and I think you would look even MORE sexy with one (if that is possible).
Love To All,

Hey Dave and Fam!
How is everyone on this beautiful Election Night?! Sorry for not being around this past week - my comp has just recently recovered from the beating I had to give it.
I haven't had the chance before now; so, I just want to send a big humongo THANKS (and big wet, sloppy tongue kisses, of course) for all the offers to send things/ideas for my firm's Halloween Scavenger Hunt. You guys are AWESOME!
I rocked my vote for President-elect Kerry at 7:30-ish a.m. in the greatest of all states - in my opinion - JERZEEE! (which I'm also happy to report is a projected win for President-elect Kerry)
*sends Jersey love to the rest of the NJ delegation of the Fam*
Funny story (I think so anyway): quite a few of the people in the departments surrounding mine plan on voting for former President Dubya and wanted to know why I was instead voting for President-elect Kerry.
*bats my eyelashes innocently*
My response?
*smiles sweetly*
"The only bush I'D vote for is my own."
Off to FINALLY check out the TPC site.
Much love and HAPPY VOTING!
~ Lori

Happy Birthday, Jezebel!
I can't watch the results of this election unfold any longer. I'm going to bed to dream of a world where Bush is not the president.
My thoughts are with you, Shane.
G'night, all.
Posted by: NightBird at November 2, 2004 09:55 PM
I really can't believe what's happening. Freak I may be joining you in Paris or somewhere else outside of the states. It just boggles my mind how much support a retard like Bush has. Are people completely blind? I don’t get it. I was supposed to leave at 7 to get my shit done and I’m sitting here with my mouth in the desk looking at what’s happening. I simply don’t get it; maybe I’m the retard that still believes that people do understand the difference between right and wrong.
Posted by: wendybird at November 2, 2004 10:19 PM
I knew Bush would win, and I'm not just saying that because he has..it was predictable sadly. Blind? People don't care for change much really that's all.
Had it on the telly all bloody night, it's still on..and on..and on...turned it off.
They've made it into a big thing over here in the UK this election..first time they've done that.

*props toothpicks under my eyelids*
I should really go to bed. I really should. Ohio's probably going to end up going out for another 10+ days and now Iowa's broken.
As proof that I've got entirely too much time on my hands, if Kerry takes Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada and Hawaii, he'll have 253 electoral votes; and, if that other guy takes New Mexico, he'll have 254 ... it's going to come down to Iowa and Ohio ... and they won't be announced any time tonight.
I really should just say screw it and go to bed cause, no matter what happens, that other guy will STILL be in office which will STILL sucks ...
... but I'm not going to do that because I'm compelled to watch the margin in Ohio.
*growls*
Much love - and here's hoping this country will be run by someone ELSE in the next few days,
~Lori~

What fascinates me is the elections happen between Halloween/Samhain and during the Time that there is "Day of the Dead", and Bonfire Night/Guy Fawlkes.
That in between time...very odd time to have an election really. People are wearing poppies on TV here, the announcers, and that's to commerate the dead.
Elections and remembering the dead and your ancestors? Oo
Anyone know why that time was chosen for USA elections? I don't recall about that from US History...
Posted by: ylais at November 3, 2004 07:27 AM
I'm finding rather rude that it's at that time of year when we're having a holiday. HOLY DAYS taken over by an election. UK doesn't usually have as much concern about it, but they have this particular election. I'm finding it intrusive personally.

Good morning everybody!!! Happy Birthday Shane!! All good wishes to you and yours!
Hi family! Here are Jezzi's suggestions for celebrating my birthday
1. Remember that Kate Bush song Don't give Up? Play it in your head.
2. Go give blood.
3. Activism is borne of disappointment. No matter what the outcome, in the words of my favorite tv character, Josiah Bartlet...."What's NEXT?"
4. Smile at a stranger.
5. Give a random hug.
6. Kiss someone ***MY PERSONAL FAV THING TO DO!!!*
7. Pay it forward
8. Dance like nobody's watching!
9. Be spontaneous
10. Say " I like me". (you, not me, well, ok, me too!!)
ok, so it is 7:57, I started celebrating my birthday in New York time....so, I am about halfway through my list, but 4-6 were so much fun, I am going to see if I can do it some more....
Think globally, act locally....
DAVE!!!! I love you! Hey, don't worry about that Camp Freddy thing, I will see you at Dragonfly, a tip of my incognito hat to you and yours this beautiful day....
jezzi(go shorty, it's your birthday, gonna party like it's your birthday)
Posted by: jezebel at November 3, 2004 08:00 AM
Well it is now my turn to get back at all you NY and Cali people. You see I have been holding a bit of grudge seeing that you guys got to see not only Camp Freddy but also TPC and will get to see them again.
Well here is my revenge......
I am from OHIO and we are the NEW florida. I guess with all the hurricanes and destruction Florida had this year. The government had to choose another patsy. So here we are. OHIO will control the election.
Actually don't get mad. i am only playing. Just in a smart ass mood today. I have much love and respect for all my 6767 family. Just thought i would add some cheer to this god awful thing we call election time.
Voting - kinda like non-alcholic beer.....whats the point?
Lawyers and the government are going to pick who they want anyway. Well maybe just OHIO. hahahaha.
Peace and love,
Ron

Marg~I woke up by the news on the radio. I was soo disappointed. I talked to my mother and said "Bush is winning the election, I'm so pissed!" and she went "well there's no use in being upset" and although I wouldn't admit it at first, she was right. So I was pretty disappointed, and I still am, but I guess I'll just have to put faith in that Bush will clean up his mess and stop fucking around with the world.
Shit, we're all doomed...

This is total bullshit. I can not believe Bush will serve another four years. We are fucked. I feel like America is turning into a Corporate Dictatorship with all the Politicians running to the bank and cashing out America. All I can say is that we will be dealing with Bush's defects for years to come and of course "you and I" will be paying for it dearly. Half the country hates Bush, thats the only thing keeping me motivated right now.

"3. Activism is borne of disappointment. No matter what the outcome, in the words of my favorite tv character, Josiah Bartlet...."What's NEXT?" "
That's the perfect way to look at it. All light needs darkness, and usually grows stronger in the face of the other. The Reagan-Bush Sr. years were fucked up years for the average person but it forced people to a critical mass situation of massive discontent. I would argue that one of the reason's for U2's original breakthrough as a massive band was tapping into that discontent and giving it a voice. One of the reason's Bill Hicks best work was during the Bush/Persian Gulf era.
We're on the edge of that now. Look at how close the popular vote is. look at the art that's coming out recently, the rock for change tour, KMFDM's last album, the new Perfect Circle disc that came out yesterday... Adversity *does* build strength if you choose to not let it take you.
I'm not happy about this situation the state of US politics currently is in btu when I see people, hear people saying "fuck it I've moving to France/Canada/UK/etc, it is really just dissapointing (that the nicest way to put it. The more accurate one gets into the realm of insulting).
It's become an all too typical American response to anything that doesn't go the way you've planned or wanted. Guy at your job is difficult to deal with? Fuck him, he's an asshole, I quit. The wife being difficult and you're fighting alot? Fuck that bitch, my bags are packed and I'm out of here. The flawed aspect of this approach is that there is no positive outcome. In the case of Marriage, you leave the person you love, who you once felt close enough to commit 'forever' and have kids with. Who you felt you couldn't live without. But instead of working through it, dealing with the pain, dealing with the difficult issues and coming up with methodologies of fixing thing or more positive ways of dealing with conflict, you walk. The outcome? You and the one you loved are now estranged at best, downright hostile at worst. If you have kids, their sense of belonging is fucked with, and their impression of what love and relationships mean and entail is irrevocably altered.
In the political arena, I see it as the same kinda thing. YOu can throw your hands up and say 'fuck it, I quit'. Or you can say "Fuck YOU, you bastards, we will take you DOWN'. With the supreme court about to be altered in its make-up, potentially affecting issues like Roe v. Wade, the latter is the attitude that is going to be needed more than ever over the next four years if we want this country to remain free in regards to speech, and personal rights.
Shit, ok, so much for walking timidly into the fray...lol. There are large generalzations made herein for the reason of illustrating a point. It's not that I don't think that sometimes divorce is the best and only option. Just using it as a simple parallel.
I'll retreat now, and promise that next post won't be a self-rigtheous political tirade.

I can't believe Kerry conceded. He could have at least given Bush a few days of his own medicine. Don't we all recall in the last election the Republicans demanding all of this recounting in Florida? From the numbers I see in Ohio, the state is split right down the middle.... I'm sure if we spent a few months counting and recounting, we could find some way for Kerry to win. Isn't that the way George got his first term? Goddammit, Bush doesn't deserve this kind of ego stroke. I am scared for my rights as a woman, and just plain frustrated in general. I can't even think of something funny to say. This is a sad day in American history.
Posted by: NightBird at November 3, 2004 09:49 AM
I just received this in an email from a close friend, he just about said IT ALL:
Some Very Sad Predictions:
We'll be embroiled in the Iraqi quagmire for the next four years and our costs top one trillion dollars.
That a draft is enacted not only for soldiers, but for medical personnel.
Record deficits will destroy the economy for 98 percent of the population while Bush's cronies continue to get wealthier.
That Social Security is privatized and subsequently bankrupted.
That a Bush Supreme Court appointee or two is able to overturn Roe vs. Wade and abortion is outlawed.
That the environment continues to be defiled by strip mining and oil and gas interests use of federal lands. That thousands of acres of virgin timber be cut down as a measure towards "fire-prevention."
That the US continue to be the target of the world's hatred because of its illegal intervention in Iraq and its total non-cooperation with the UN.
That radical Right-Wing fundamentalists are able to control what our children are taught in schools, including outlawing the theory of evolution and propagating the myth that dinosaurs were a troublesome nuisance to folks about 5,000 years ago.
That "equal rights for all" is soon consigned to the scrap heap by Bush's Fascist thugs and thought police, who seek to disenfranchise anyone who isn't a white, god-fearing Christian male.
That gays and lesbians continue to suffer persecution and discrimination in every aspect of their lives.
Then, and only then, the mindless moronic sheep who voted for George Bush, as well as the idiots who didn't vote at all, will MAYBE get a clue about the damage they've inflicted on this country for untold generations.

Rantz~
I completely agree with you.
I say that I'm gonna move to another country in jest. My family means way to much to me to go run to another country, besides the fact it is virtually impossible for me to leave.
When I was little I always looked up to the "hippies" people who knew things were wrong and wanted to change, I guess today I have been given the opportunity to join this rank. I'm not giving up, anything I learn that I can do to attempt to change this country I will do.
I just feel like today is a dark day for the US, a dark day for the innocent people of Iraq, and a dark day for the world in whole.
I wish I was still on those happy pills from the shrink..

Itanja-I totally agree with your post and it was hard just to read it becuase I believe that's where Bush's agrendas are going as well. My job as a Social Worker is going to be brutal the next four years. I am upset and mad but I refuse to be a defeatist. I am not going to take it anymore. I think I am going to quit Social Work and go to Law School, I am going to exercise my "power as a consumer" and not buy from the corporations that feed this self serving beast. I am going to get involved, join moveon.org, get involed at any cost, I am going to do something. Change is inevitable.

Shane - Best wishes to you and your family. And try to have a happy birthday, if it is your b-day.
Jezzi - Happy birthday!
Rantz - Welcome!
Steve I. - Thanks for tweaking the site so that we could enlarge the pics. I wish I looked as good up close in pictures as you guys do! LOL
As for the election... c'est la vie, I guess. At least we all know that we tried our best by voting. There are many factors leading to Bush's re-election, and we just have to look on the bright side... it's only 4 more years. The pendulum will swing back eventually, as it always inevitably does... and until then, we can just do our best to make our own little worlds as good as possible. America is still a great country, and in more ways than not, those of us who live here are still very fortunate to do so.
Take care, everyone!

very disappointed that bush won...it's because of his patriot act that our rights to privacy and and a life without interference are systematically chipped away and why my family, among others, are being sued for d/l music...yes i am one of the people that got caught...and i find it ironic...cause i only d/l to see if a cd is worth buying...so i do buy cd's. but it's only through bush's patriot act that my activity online (as well as the other people in my house who use the computer) can be traced and tracked, only for corporate greed. it's a very sad story...it's also upsetting that, i, a woman, will see my reproductive rights stripped away as well...it's a woman's right to decide to bring life into this world, and if seh feels she cannot provide the right environment for a child (a loving, stable environment), then it's much more cruel to subject that young innocent child to a life of hardships and cruelties, rather than never having it exposed to that at all. what's next on the agenda? getting rid of condoms because they're seen as an abortion in a bag? it's ridiculous...bush constantly uses his religious beliefs to run this country...what ever happened to separation of church and state? just because the bible says something, it doesn't mean it's a law or mandate that needs to be put into effect in our country. we're known as a melting pot of cultures and religions, so don't try to unite the country under a catholic rule by being sneaky and using religion as law. i don't have anything against the catholic relgion, as i myself am catholic...i do, however, have a problem with forcing religion onto other people.
i guess that's teh end of my rant against bush...it's just sad to know that we're going to be dug into a hole in the next four years

I echo everyone's comments here regarding Bush and the election results. This is indeed a very sad day for America. The only comforting thought I have right now is that Democrats still control the Senate, so whatever ridiculous ideological amendments and laws this maniac tries to pass will get shot down in the Senate. We managed to survive 12 years of Reagan and Bush Sr. and their destructive policies and agenda which were eventually reversed under Clinton. I think we can do it again. All my friend's are contemplating moves to Canada (which in all honesty, does not sound like a bad idea), but I intend on staying to fight for what I believe in and what this country was founded on, in any way possible. As cynical and crushed as I am today, I remain with a glimmer of hope.

Ok, I would have given anything to of been a voter in Ohio yesterday - For all the Ohio people who voted, thank you. For all the Ohio people who voted for Kerry yesterday, god bless you and I wish there were more of you - like 200,000 more of you - What's done is done. We need to be proactive and write, fax, and call our congress men when we need to be heard. Most of all, we need to stay informed.

I suppose people are still curious about Dave's political stance in this election. It doesn't really matter who he voted for, considering that Kerry won in California. I'm assuming Carmen is also registered in California, but.... the in-laws are from Cincinnati, in the state that kept us awake for most of the night. I have no clue where Carmen stands on pretty much any issue. She must know plenty of people who stood on those crazy long lines to vote last night in Ohio. Here's my question for Dave: have you found yourself influenced by Carmen's religious and political views since you united, and vice versa? I was brought up in a household where my father is a Jewish Democrat and my mother is a Protestant Republican, and I'm fascinated by how relationships can become either closer or divided by those two factors. My current boyfriend hates my mystical spirituality... but we won't go there.
Everyone, try to smile...

Thanks, Sean - I couldn't have said it better myself.
I don't think this country is going to instantly go to hell the way some people fear. Yes, Bush might try to push his agenda on the country, but that doesn't mean that Congress and the individual states will let it happen.
The thing that I fear the most is the war situation. I was hoping that it would end sooner than later. I still have my fingers crossed.
The truth is, things like peace, love, liberty, and the pursuit of justice begin at home. It's not up to one person, a president, a mere figurehead (IMO), to make everyone's lives better. (They seldom do, believe me!) It's up to each of us to try to set a good example... to love and respect those who are different from us... to educate our children... to treat each other with compassion. Little changes are what lead to bigger societal changes.
OK... I'm done for now. :)
Peace,
-Denise

Great posts Brett & blondi~!
I've lived through many different Presidents during my many years on this planet, we honestly should stop thinking that this country is a beacon of progressiveness. That seems to have ended when the Vietnam War and that particular era of strong activism ended.
YES, whatever happened to separation of church and state?
Also, there ARE many people are sadly influenced by silly, airhead 'entertainment' personalities & their mindless addiction to all things superficial. We've become an increasingly product obsessed nation, filled with people spending money on things they think they 'need' & the corporate greed which plays into their obsessions.
Unfortunately, many are looking up to these money obsessed celebrities as their new sorts of 'heroes'. The 'Dumbing Down of America' on a completely different level than the Right Wing fundies influence, but just as bad & corrupting.
We also seem to forget that huge parts of this country have always harbored a kind of puritan, frontier, flag waving, gun toting mentality.
The big cultural and technological developments that took hold in large urban areas over the last decade, have created this sort of fear among the rest of the country that their way of life will come to pass. Hence, their strong reaction to it, electing these Right Wing fundies into office. These are the folks who voted for the likes of 'Good Old Boy' George Bush.
People who live in New York & California, seem to lose track of the fact that there is whole other section of the USA who clearly live in their own little 'time warp' 1950's world where there's a mom and a pop & a white picket fence.
Besides, don't underestimate the educational level of the general American population, relatively few people in the flyover areas (except for those living in the larger urban areas) have skills that make them job-flexible. You threaten to close their local Walmart down and their little insular world starts to crumble.
In such times, these people turn to something that will provide comfort on some level (ie: fundemental religion and paternalistic government). What mindless idiots! These are the folks who voted in Bush. And don't forget the very wealthy, who are also afraid to lose their 'to-the-manor-born' way of life.
Four more years of this crap. I've never been this upset over an election outcome in my life. UGH~~!
Oh yes, let's not forget this is the highest level of unemployment under any presidency, not to mention all the jobs being outsourced to other countries. Bush's buddies can become even wealthier, as more Americans lose their jobs, homes & all the things we should have as hard working tax payers.
I guess even more folks will be losing their jobs over the next few months. The so-called jobs this presidency keeps telling us about are mostly in the service industry. If you don't mind working behind a counter asking: "fries with your burger?" OR in a department store as a sales person, you are all welcome to these so-called 'jobs'. Young people are going to college for this?
The next 'four more years' will be damn torturous!
Btw, leaving this country & escaping doesn't help either, stay & fight for YOUR rights!! The extreme right wing fundies, who unfortunately are getting more of a tighter hold of the US, cannot be allowed to destroy this country any further.

I can't say that I don't agree with Itanja but, we all have a voice and a choice. Our congress men are supossed to represent us. If you are aware of a bill being introduced or in the process of being passed or are concerned about an issue, call them, write them, be proactive. I'm COMPLETELY depressed over this but we have to have hope. We can be heard. We still have freedom that most people don't have in other countries. I have to look at the bright side right now or I'm going to cry.

ditto to what Rantz said. The fact with the U.S. is that we are spoiled, which in turn can make us selfish. We have jobs and get paid comfortably enough to get and do whatever we want. We tend to take it all for granted.
Although I love the U.S. and feel that it is one of the greatest countries, If a serious situation came about, you bet I'd be on the first plane or boat out of here to save my booty. But as it stands, there's nowhere else I'd rather be.
However, I feel that we should be staying on top of things and fighting against corporate greed and keeping the separation between church and state. Brett, I'm joining you.

What bothers me is that our elections our decided overnight based on exit polls reported by mega-news corporations. What bothers me even more is that one third of the country voted on the new Electronic Voting Machines. Two companies supplied these, and each company's CEO publicly stated they would do anything to get Bush re-elected. More importantly, by noon yesterday, reports were coming in from computer techs at polling places stating that the counters on the machines were already reporting hundreds of thousands of votes already cast. I'm far from a conspiracy theorist, but I smell fraud.
I want to wait until all the real votes are counted: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/

Anyways I found a website today that I thought I would share with everyone. I hope to become active sending things to our troops, and I know I will be able to get my family to become active as well... I figured I'd share the site with my 6767 family in the hopes that maybe someone else would want to help out.

There are alot of rules on the site as to what you can and can't send to them, so if you do decide to send some things along make sure there isn't a rule against it!

You know I have never been really political or anything and I made a lot of assumptions about this whole thing. I really believed that the majority of people would do the right thing, that the majority had common sense that the majority cared about our future, that the majority... Next election year I’m not taking anything for granted. What this election has taught me is that it’s not so cheesy sporting an I voted sticker, that the next time someone stops me to ask if I’m a registered voter I’m going to hold my life for a minute and thank them for doing a great job. I’m voting for Hilary in 2008!
