Chaney

100_29451. Have you ever played with Rob Lamothe or Stevie Salas ?

No, never have.

2. Dave, I was wondering, are you still on methadone in place of heroin?

God no! That stuff is pure evil. It was invented by the Nazis to get the Jews all strung out and force them to work harder. If they didn't work, they wouldn't get their dose and become extremely ill. That's the story, anyway. It is actually much harder to get off of than heroin. When I stopped using it back in the 90's, it took me six months before I started to feel better. My humble advice, avoid it at all costs.

3. I got the alanis morissette cd and eric doesn't play bass on it. Is he just a live bassist or does he write on any of her albums???

I really don't know for sure. I do know he tours with her, but I have never bought an Alanis album so I don't know if he records with her.

4. Dave any news on when the Camp Freddy album is gonna be out?

That is hard to say. All of the basic tracks are done but scheduling all the guests is tricky. The record keeps evolving and it takes time. I know that recently, Chad Smith, Jerry Cantrell, Billy Duffy and Macy Gray have contributed.

5. Dave I was just wondering if you keep in touch or know how rhian and monet (ur ex's) r doin?

I speak to Monet from time to time and she is kicking ass. Always working on some film. She is doing great. Rhian, on the other hand I have not spoken to in a while, but she is very sweet and I am sure she is doing well.

6. What have happened to that beautiful moment of "Go On" - in 2.28 min of the song. Your little riff? That amazing moment is no longer in that Oct. 16th version? Why?

I am not sure I know exactly what you are talking about. It should be the same...

7. Does anyone know Dave's specific workout plan or how to get in touch with his personal trainer, William Thompson? Any information on what Dave does when he works out is greatly appreciated.

I try to mix it up. Cardio, light weights and yoga. I try to spend no less than an hour in the gym a day, but no more than that either. If time doesn't permit, I do what I can. 20 minutes, half an hour... something is better than nothing.

8. Dave - What was that mahvelous shade of eye shadow you were wearing at the TPC show tuesday night? A girl's gotta know!

I don't know. I kind of just grab whatever is around and use that. Later, Riss applied some stuff on top of what I had done. It's just some type of mixed medium... I use NARS black sparkle eyeliner, any mascara (water proof to avoid running into my eyes from sweat), MAC C4 powder and MAC NC35 cover up. Eye shadow is a mystery. I just rummage through Carmen's stuff till I like something.

9. Dave...what would your "perfect Christmas" be like?

I'm easy. Snow would be nice. I have never had a Christmas in the snow.

10. Mornin Dave, what's the most amazing thing you've ever seen?

This.

Dave

Good Day to Dave and everyone in 67Land.

Dave have you ever collaborated with any members of Living Colour, would you consider doing so, and what do you think of them?

Got the chance to see them for the first of many times when i was 16 years old(1990) on times up tour. Amazing band but lost some of their sparkle with departure of Muzz(Skillings)original bassist.

Keep up the good work, dont play too hard hope to hear Steve I shout the words "Good evening U.K!" some time in the NTDF(Not too distant future"

Hope you all enjoy your weekends.

Peace & Love 2 all

Good morning all. I hope everyone had a wonderful week and is planning something fun and relaxing for the weekend.

Dave... this is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. The man we all look up to at some level is sharing his life with us and we give back what we can. Its truly a blessing. So again as I have said 100 times Thank You.

Much love to all.. and a special Hello to those of you I haven't talk to yet or haven't heard from in awhile.

Mornin' to you Dave (I am half way through my work day here in the East!)

Love the Q & A - you are truly amazing!

Snow is good - but here, where we get alot of snow - we often have a green Christmas. You want to see something spectacular? Spend Christmas or New Years in Niagra Falls - Just plain AWESOME!!!

And for those of you who might be wondering - 26 DAYS til Santa arrives!

Always,
me

Christmas in the snow...I would switch places with you in a second. I'm in Northern Ontario where all we get is snow (surprisingly none yet - knock on wood). I on the other hand want this christmas to be snow free.

The warm climate people always want snow until they get here, realize it's freezing and no fun. And Dave would have to wear a shirt...and jacket...and lots of layers, which i'm not sure can be done!

Good Morning Dave and Family!

RE: Snow at Christmas. Dave, if you an' Carmen really want to experience snow at Xmas, with that 'kind of wistful, old fashioned way', but don't want to drive/fly to hell-n-gone, I'd suggest heading up to Julian, in the mountains east of San Diego. It's historic mainstreet still looks pretty turn of the cetury and the Orchard Hill Inn , is a very cool place to stay, run by some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Very 'classic' in terms of what you think of for XMas, horse drawn carriages, and all of that.

Yet, the general store sells Red Bull and Rockstars. My god, how I love living in California.

The family goes up there every holiday, and it's really all of the benefits of going to small town, wintery america, without any of the red-neckery. All that, and kick ass apple pie to boot.

Eek, snow!
It started snowing here last night (or was it two days ago? I'm not sure) and there's several inches of snow here now (I live in Oslo, Norway) It makes me not want to leave my house untill spring. I hate snow. Snow is overrated. Who actually goes skiing anyway?!

Sorry, I've been spending the past 4 hours underneath a blanket cause the house is freezing so I had to rant.

Hope yer all well.

i don't like snow either..it's cold and wet..and i always slip which is not very charming
we never have a white christmas..but a wet one. if we're 'lucky' there might fall some snow the time before or after. but our snow isn't very pretty. it's like 5 centimeters which turns into brown mud and then disapears.
ohw, and the layer beneath the snow is frozen so the snow is extra slippery! great

but in my head december is still a 'white' month, like in the astrid lindgren stories!
..pretty and cosy

Hey all!

Just wanted to drop by and tell everyone I'm still kicking. My friends band's playing at a small club in an hour or so, so I've gotta run to catch it. Unfortunately haven't had too much time to read recent posts lately but I'll catch up during the weekend. Hope you all had a great time at the show on Tuesday, I'm so fucking envious.

And Dave, although it's over a month 'till Christmas, first snow came down yesterday here in southern Finland! Temperature -6 Celsius (21 Fahrenheit), so I'll go now and freeze my ass off.

If you wanna go some place w/ snow and Finland's a little too far away, go to Lake Tahoe! I spent one Christmas there and it was amazingly beautiful! There you don't have to die to rest your soul!

Peace out, everyone!

I am so glad that I discovered you and your website.

You are such a class act. There are many artists who will never match your talent or success that would never give their fans the time of day.

Keep on being you

2. The classic Looney Tunes ya know when Bugs was crazy
3. And the schoool house rock shorts
4. And those other food shorts, like hank for a hunk of cheese.(can't remember the yellow dude's name)
5. Accually, I watched anything that was on ABC.

what is up, yo!

hope everyone's doing well.

not to promote negativity or anything, but i have a funny story. i met 2 guys the other night who saw JA at one of the kroq acoustic shows...and they were thrilled to hear JA sans Perry is working out well. (yeah stevie!) haha anyway, the one guy, a snarky british boy, mocked perry because he didn't even sing during some of the songs, chugged JD and then told the rest of JA, "that sounds good. you should record it." eww did perry really say that? what an ass! then he said that perry was wearing a bustier, attempted to take it off & failed, then ordered stagehands to take it off him, before running off stage & not finishing the set.

anyway, then later i heard "ballroom blitz" from the dj booth and thought of camp freddy & it made my night :)

Anybody hear from Jezebel today?

Posted by: Cori at November 19, 2004 01:03 PM

sorry can't help it, the thing about the jews and methadone just isn't true, never heard that one before... the main reason methadone was invented was because the germans opium supply was cut off, so they made their own shit, for themselves. it was used as a super painkiller to "strengthen" their army. besides,
using methadone to create withdrawls simply isn't very torturous. they did way worse shit than that....

Methadone was originally developed by the Nazis during World War II. When the supply of opium was cut off, Nazi addicts like Hermann Goering (Commander in Chief of the Luftwaffe and Hitler's designated successor) wanted to avoid the possibility of withdrawal. He instructed the German drug companies to produce a wholly synthetic opiate that didn't need to rely on the poppy. The chemists came up with a drug that not only worked, but also lasted a long time. As a result, Methadone has become the drug of choice for doctors who are trying to help users manage their opiate dependency. Methadone lasts anywhere between 24 and 72 hours, depending on the dose that you take and on your individual metabolism.

Mike from NYC - I do believe you're reliving your childhood? :)

Okay, horrid/funny snow story - keep in mind I'm from Louisiana, land of the once-a-decade-snow-flurry...

I was living in OKC, Oklahoma and exactly 8.98 months pregnant (come to think of it, I believe I gave birth three days after this incident). Anyway - it's snowing and very very icy outside and I worked at a hospital that didn't have covered parking - crazy. I had gotten out of my car and was walking to the employee entrance when my shoes hit this patch of ice and I sssskkkkkiiiiidddded to the entrace, arms flailing, big pregnant belly cutting a swath through the air, complete with cartoon expletives (whooooooaaaaaaa! shitttttt!!!) and strangers pausing to watch this vision of grace skate across the parking lot. Horrified! Thankful I didn't land baby belly first though. So give me the occasional snow flake, but keep the ice! Christmas or not :)

Crecencia,

You are thinking of "Time for Timer." The characters name was Timer and he "hankered for a hunk of cheese." He said, "When your ten gallon hat is a-feelin' five gallons flat, or whenever you get a-weak-in-the-knees, you hanker for a hunk of, a slab, or slice, or chunk of, you hanker for a hunk of cheese!" He also did one called "sunshine on a stick" where you put your favorite juice into icecube trays, put a layer of plastic wrap over the tray and poked toothpicks into the plastic to make mini popsicles.

Yes - I am a veritable corucopia, a plethora, a vast array of useless knowledge!

Some of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons were "The Superfriends," and I loved Aqua Man and the Wonder Twins. Wonder twin powers - ACTIVATE! I also loved Hong Kong Fuey - because he is the #1 Super Guy!!

Aimee~Amazing! I had the same thing happen to me when I was very pregnant, slipping over on the ice in NYC, while there to see the tree, at Rockefeller Center.
I remember being terriffied of landing on my belly!

it is Hong Kong Phooey. I love that cartoon!

Posted by: ylais at November 19, 2004 02:30 PM

Ylais, it's one of those things that you can look back on and crack up. I can imagine being one of the bystanders - I would have been biting my tongue not to laugh once making it through the door. I was so thankful nothing happened, but it really was comical after the fact! Pregnant and graceful don't ever seem to fit in the same sentence :)

Posted by: Aimee at November 19, 2004 02:35 PM

awww....pooor dave...i can't imagine not having at least one white x-mas...i've had a few...here in NY the weather isn't TOO bad...but we get snow sometimes so it's all good...NY is totally the perfect place to live ha ha...i'm the typical, self involved NY-er stereotype...it's really sad.

just wishing everyone well and hope everyone has an awesome weekend!

loved the answers to the questions...and yes...methadone is worse than heroin...it has to do with nerve receptors, but i'm not going to bore you all with the details of it lol...i took a whole course in drugs and how they affect behavior and the nervous system...interesting stuff indeed...catch you all later

Hey People!

Radio 6 (UK BBC station) played 'Just Because' today and the DJ described it as ... 'The song U2 wish they had recorded'

Dave, I was lucky enough to see RHCP support U2 in Ireland a couple of years back. Would U2 be a band you'd like TPC to support?

Or how about a Bono/Edge Camp Freddy happening?

I would like to share my emotions with all of you because you are all part of me.I am very happy because I am going on a trip with my boyfriend; it's the first time we are travelling together out of the country. I can't stop smiling. I am so happy
I don't know how it would be to be in the same house 10 days, see each other when we wake up, when we go to bed, get to know all our habits that we can only do when we are by ouselves.he tells me to see it as a honeymoon y I tell him that this is the test to see if we could ever live together.

Yesterday, someone asked why Dave was on VH1's Least Metal Moments, which I just happened to see a few minutes ago. At number 24 was MARIAH DOES DEF LEPPARD'S "BRINGIN' ON THE HEARTBREAK" with Dave on guitar http://www.mariahcarey.dk/both/both.jpg.

Dave, I have a question for you. In 20 years, when you and Carmen are sitting around, tending to the 4 kids (Candace, Dave Jr., Jimi, and Patricia :) and two regular fans are sitting around comparing styles, how would you like YOUR style of playing to be remembered? For instance, when Stevie Ray came along, he was compared to Hendrix. Randy Rhoades to Page, non-defined solo guitarists are compared to Keith Richards (four hands on the guitar at once)etc. In which "grouping" would you consider yourself to be in or would like to be included in? The Strat guys, the Les Paul guys, the PRS guys? In short, whom do want your style to be compared to, if such a thing came up in conversation?
Thanks!

Forgot-do you ever hum any JA songs? If a JA song comes on on the radio, do you change it, or let it play? Just wondering. Thanks!

Cartoons? I think Kimba the White Lion was my favorite. I watched them all, but loved the live action Saturday morning shows. Who can forget H.R. Puffnstuff? Got my little boy hooked on the DVD. And there were the Banana Splits - how about Lidsville or Sigmund the Seamonster?

Miss the days when you could watch really good shows on a Saturday morning. I remember when The Monkees were new. . . and as for Super Hereos - Captain California is a very good friend of mine - really, he is!

Bless All and Goodnight!

Wow! I finally had a chance to listen to the clip from the Dragonfly show, and I am floored.

DAVE - You just keep getting better and better as a guitarist, if that's possible. I'm blown away by your playing. Even if you weren't as beautiful, stylish, and unique as you are, you would still be a veritable "rock god".

We've all said this before, but we're truly lucky to be able to have an open line of communication with someone of your calibre. Thank you so much for being such a cool, nice person.

All the best,
-Denise

Posted by: Denise at November 19, 2004 06:18 PM

PART II - Re: Saturday morning shows... When I was younger, I would watch just about anything that was animated on TV. I remember absolutely loving the Smurfs. And you can't beat good old-fashioned Looney Tunes. Bugs Bunny, the Road Runner, Pepe Le Pew, Tweety Bird... the whole gang.

When the cartoons were over, I would then watch American Bandstand and Soul Train. In days when we didn't have cable and MTV, that was the next best thing... and I ate it up!

Sidenote: The discussion on methadone is very interesting. You learn something new every day. Speaking of Nazis, I also heard that it was the Nazis who developed and used the first synthetic amphetamines to keep their insane, menacing energy up.

Dave,

I'm way behind everyone else, but I finally got to finish DTTAH. Hats off to you for sticking that out there. When you came back to the book after not looking at it in over a year, that had to be painful. That was a lot of courage, and a bit inspirational for me to keep keepin' on. Thanks !

Question: I know you play your songs, but which other songs do you jam on by OTHER artists that is a staple when you're playing?

Cartoons for me were good ol' Tom and Jerry...never said a freakin' word! And I used to have to get up early and watch one of the first anime cartoon...VOLTRON! That was tight! Can't seen to find it anymore.

I gotta say, Dave's talent as a musician really comes through in the Dazed video. Rock on D-dogg, rock on...

I have a question for you all. What have you learned about Dave from visiting here regularly?

And vice-versa to Dave.. what have you learned about the fans (or even being famous) from reading the comments on here?

Steve L, you around?
what about Luiz?

Jez, I hope everything is ok with you... please give us a sign if you're out there.

Have a great weekend everyone! :)

I had to chime in in the saturday morming cartoon thing going on here - LOVE the Smurfs!! I always thought after school cartoons were better though, like Tom & Jerry, Flinstones, Casper, Thunder Cats, He-Man, She-Ra, Chilly Willy, Droopy - know what I mean??

Dave, it's so nice to know there is a man that appreciates quality make-up!!!

Mortisha -

Your question is a great one. What have we learned? I could go on an on, but here is my "Cliff's Notes" version.

From my POV, I'd already read virtually everthing that has ever been written about or by Dave. (I know, I'm such a geek!) The more I read and learned about him, the more impressed I became with Dave the Human Being as well as Dave the Guitar God.

Now that he is actually interacting with us mere "pedestrians" on a regular basis (which in itself is wonderful and representative of his character), I can say this: If everything he says here is sincere, then it confirms what I've always suspected. That he is the coolest motherf*cker alive. Plain and simple.

And if not, then it's like he admits in DTTAH: He's very good at manipulating people! ;)

"I have a question for you all. What have you learned about Dave from visiting here regularly?"

He has one hell of a sense of humor...I love it!!! (I, too appreciate the make-up tips) ;)

Laura...have the time of your life, Sweetie!

Jezz....???? Come out, come out, wherever you are!

i have always been so much more into classic rock than the any of the new music. so, i haven't really been to all that many live shows in my life. but i have discovered lately, that the most fun i've had seeing a show has been watching CF and TPC. i have been so focused on school lately, i have forgotten how much i really love music. CF really reminded me of that. and TPC really gets me excited about new music.

though i always knew about Dave, i started to notice Dave more when he married Carmen, much like the rest of the world. and then with TDDUP and CPS, i started find him very charming, and intelligent, and a normal human being, nothing like i expected after some of the stories i had heard.

by coming here, i have learned everything i now know about who Dave is. i have learned about what he used to be like, and about all that he has overcome. most importantly, i have learned how much he really cares and respects his fans. as someone said before, that he is "a fan of his fans".

Dave, you have made me excited about the future of technology and music. you have inspired me by bringing together a world of fans to one place, where we can all gain support and comfort and a sense of belonging. where we can all join you on this new exciting adventure, a new chapter in music history, and actually have a part in it. i can honestly say that i haven't been so excited about something in a long time.

thanks Dave.

That he really is one of the coolest and nicest people around. And that he really cares about his fans.

Later,

holy shit. has anyone heard about the pacers/pistons game tonight? i could not believe my eyes.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=241119008
here's the story but you really have to see a video.
i can't seem to find anything online yet.

the worst is the chicken-shit fans who were pouring out their sodas and beers on the heads of the pacers players and managers as they were walking into the lockers rooms, not to mention throwing ice cubes and chairs. just wrong.

I know there are a lot of insomniacs here...why don't we ever seem to have it at the same time? ;)

Posted by: Cori at November 20, 2004 02:01 AM

We DO have it at the same time! We're just in the wrong place!

Posted by: los lonely boy at November 20, 2004 03:04 AM

good mornin' fam! we've just had some snow over here..but like i thought it would be, it was wet..more like big, white, raindrops..too bad
it's almost st. Nicolaas (Sinterklaas) here in the Netherlands, 5 december is just a couple of weeks away..time to buy presents. i get my money before 5 december, so hopefully that'll be okay.
we don't really celebrate christmas. not with presents (though some people do). but we do buy a tree and organize fancy dinners with candles and delicious food, and some go to church. St. Nicolaas is kinda like Santa, he's an old (skinny) guy who arrives in a boat from Spain. and at night he rides on his white horse on the rooftops and his assistances (that sounds a lot fancier than slaves, they are black, so i guess centuries ago they were his slaves) help him to drop presents through the chimney in the shoes of kids. the kids will only get presents when they've been good this year and sing songs before they go to bed.
older people who don't believe in Sinterklaas anymore, buy eatch other presents and write poems.
i thought i would be fun to share a tradition with the fam.
everyone's asleep so now you guys have something to read when you wake up, haha. i couldn't describe everything, my english isn't good enough, too bad.
great weekend all! love, emma

it's morning here now...and I'm bummed out so I'm not about to leave this very room all day. I hate it when everything sucks.
Ah well...

Jez~ What have you been upto today? It's not like you to spend this much time away from the site.

Anyway, I'm gonna...Umm, I'm not quite sure what I can do without leaving the room, but I'll figure out something. Ah yeh, I'm gonna go type out a whiny story about my mental week. Have fun everyone!

All the talk about snow and cold weather inspired me to go down and take in the much under-appreciated California sunset today. =) It was great! thanks for the idea hee hee hee. A little hazy today, but I got some nice pictures nonetheless. Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

So do we have a "normal" CFR coming up????

Posted by: Abby at November 20, 2004 03:43 AM

about Dave?

He is sensitive, eager to share but has obviously been burned by it, so he uses humor to deflect attack.

He is madly in love with his wife, which is probably by far the most attractive thing about him.

His website is the most interesting thing on the web!

...oh yeah, he's also passionate about music, and loyal to his family, friends and even his fans!

Posted by: Cynthia at November 20, 2004 07:38 AM

Emma! Thanks for describing your traditions, I'd never heard any of that! If anyone else from around the world could share some, I find it really interesting!

thank you

Me too! Happy Saturday Dave & Family!

Denise's comment about manipulation is interesting and something I've been wondering about as well.

This blog, and the way it has brought together different individuals who have created a sense of belonging to a family, is really interesting both in the actuality of it, and also as a potential social experiment.

Being the cynic that I am, and understanding how easy it is to mimic interaction and disclosure on the internet, I waver between thinking that Dave is really on the other end (so to speak) and interested in conversing and interacting with us (I dislike the word 'fan' because individuals can be 'fans' of each other without being celebritites) and him manipulating & thinking that this is one really cool social experiment like the photo booth.

And I hope that there is understanding that I am not 'dissing' this blog, but actually find it quite interesting and fascinating and really do hope that it is reflective of Dave as well as who we all are.

Posted by: mortisha8 | November 19, 2004 08:17 PM

I guess apart from what i knew before i came here which was what an awsome musician he is and the problems he's had with drugs, what i've learned from this site is this:

He's incredibly generous giving us this place and giving up his time to answer questions and update us with info,he's patient and polite when the odd negative post pops up.He speaks from the heart when someone is asking for help or is having a rough time.
I respect him even more now than i did before i discovered 6767.

And everyone else here is great too
