CFR Saturday

dave_spread_iconCFR tonight! Billy, Dono and I will be in the studio. I think we will be giving away some tickets to the December 2nd show featuring Doheny, The Tints and The Panic Channel. I plan to play some more Starlit on the show. I may even try to get Simara on the phone again as she is so good with the words. I rented an amazing documentary last night called, The Hunting of the President. Check it out if you haven't yet. Really compelling stuff about the Clinton administration and the attempt to bring it down. The best part for me was in the special features when Clinton responds to the film after a screening. What an amazing guy. You know, I'm not much for politics but he really is an amazing speaker and presence. I met him once with Carmen at the Democratic National Convention and he was nothing short of totally charismatic. Anyway, I enjoyed the film.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and have a wonderful weekend.

Dave,
Taking requests for CFR? How about a Hollywood list...
Celebrity Skin? The Weirdos? Thelonious Monster? X? Dream Syndicate? The Nymphs? Take your pick.
Rock on!
Happy Saturday!

PS. Did anyone think that that turkey looked like really old box? Yuck!

Dave, do you have lots of guitars? do you ever sell them? would you ever sell them through your site? I'd love to have a PRS - what a beastly guitar.
Anyways, music is good, anyone who doesnt play - get out there and have a strum! it's good for the soul.
have a good weekend peoples!

Posted by: leigh at November 27, 2004 10:23 AM

hey leigh, my friend is teaching me how to play the guitar, but she is still learning as well..so the sounds we produce are quite crappy, but it's good fun. and you're right, it's good for the soul
haha, we'll get there one day, where-ever that is

i still have to learn a lot, i can install my sisters computer (she bought an eMac, G4), connect her to internet, build up a firewall and all the things you have to do to get the machine working..but i can't listen to CFR!
it's not fair
so, how was everyone's saturday? mine was rainy, but i shopped all day and bought beautiful presents for my family so it was great :D
i'm going to check out how i can listen to CFR, and what time in the morning i have to get up to listen to it!
love, emma

i got it! i have to get up at 3 o clock in the mornin' to listen to CFR..hm
hope i'm right.......!

Posted by: Emma at November 27, 2004 10:42 AM

The Hunting of the President! That one is on my to see list.
For the other end of the spectrum, I suggest watching the (new) Clinton Chronicles. I totally agree that he is a great speaker, but as far as certain things concerning foreign policy (ie. Kosovo) that he was involved in, I think it could have been handled differently.

Hope to catch CFR tonight!

Have a good day everyone

Afternoon Dave and family. How are ya? :) This card idea sounds great.

Posted by: AeroGem at November 27, 2004 10:51 AM

Hey Dave, thanks for the link, I'd never heard of the pic before. I too met Clinton, in early '92, when he and Gore were campaigning together. I'm a lifelong dem, so, for me, it was a real thrill. Shook his hand and said, "Now you go out and beat that (insert your own expletive here)". He smiled, started to laugh, and restrained himself. He had to move on, because he was about to burst into laughter-I'll never forget that. I'm hoping Hillary runs and wins in '08. That way, I'll have 2 Prez's autographs on the same piece of paper!

hey dave! hey everyone... hope u all had a wonderful thanksgiving!

could anyone help me out? for a while... i've wanted to play guitar.... electric. but then now, my parents have finally agreed to get me one. but yesterday... i couldnt choose between acoustic or electric... because the acoustic is much cheaper and yah... i dont know which one i should get. do you know which is easier to learn on? and if i learn to play acoustic, would i be able to play electric and vice versa? thanks....

Posted by: debbie at November 27, 2004 11:44 AM

Dave,

If you get the chance, check out a film called "Outfoxed". It document's the conservative bias and bent of Fox News in their reporting, it's subserviency to the White House, the outright lies that are reported for political gain, as well as Rupert Murdoch's control and influence on major media. Another good one is "Bush's Brain". That document's W's advisor Karl Rove and examine's how his strategic decisions seem to be determining U.S. policy for the Bush administration, the war in Iraq, running the dirtiest campaign in U.S. history, etc. I believe both films are out on DVD/VHS now. Scary stuff. Even scarier when you consider that there are billboards being put up around the country with George W. Bush's picture and the words "Our Leader" next to it. Isn't that what Hitler and Saddam used to do?

Anyway, sorry for the political rant...that kind of stuff gets to me.

Hope everyone here had a wonderful Thanksgiving with their family/friends! Good weekend to all.

Peace,
Sean

Hey!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, for all the responses so far!!! As far as docs go, I haven't seen hunting of the President, but IFC and Sundance both have shown The War Room, which is a behind the scenes look at Clinton's campaign, and the wonders of James Carville and George S., as well as Bush's Brain, a pretty scary look at the mechanisms of Karl Rove...

electric vs acoustic...I am a lefty, I like learning on the electric only because I am such a klutz, and I like the heavier strings...

As far as my suggestions for CFR, I think that after Dave does his worthy pimping of the beautiful and articulate Simara Rose and her band, they should spend the rest of the time playing Panic Channel, Doheny, maybe some Camp Freddy...you know, self-promote and all...that's my request...

jezebel(hi, sweet Emma!)

Posted by: jezebel at November 27, 2004 12:01 PM

Debbie,

You could start out with either one and be able to play both. It depends how cheap the acoustic is, because the strings on some acoustic guitars are bit further away from the fretboard than others. But, that will help you develop good callouses and strong fingers, so when you do switch over to a good electric guitar, it will be a breeze to play. Personally, I would pick up an electric first. You'll be fine either way.

What kind of guitar were you thinking of picking up?

Posted by: Sean at November 27, 2004 12:06 PM

I think you should learn how to "play" on an acoustic. Steel strings will give your fingers a workout and feel more like rock and roll. Nylon strings are better for fingering instead of strumming. Whichever you choose, you need to learn fundamentals. It is too easy to pick up bad habits on an electric. Plus, if you learn your chords and practice tempo, etc...you will have more fun and be more confident with all that juice behind you.
My two cents.

ok, I just googled cheer up, and look what i found, http://www.explodingdog.com/aug3/cheerup.html

The weather here is pretty dismal as well, my dog is so bored, he is chasing his tail, I am watching the Sponge Bob marathon...watching my phone not ring....like I was telling Chantelle...STUPID BOYS.....grrrr.....

DAVE...burning question of the day...CSI....Las Vegas, Miami, or New York....Law and Order...original, CI, or SVU....and if it is original, which team, you know,I was always partial to Jill Hennessey!, and Lenny will always be my main man....

jezebel(mmmm...Meloni....)

Posted by: jezebel at November 27, 2004 02:16 PM

hey jezzi, you cheered me up :D hope i'm not the only one
sleepy hallow was on tv, don't know what it is but movies like that scare me to death. i wanted to see it because i like Ricci and i'm a big Burton fan... there was a really good comedian performing. i went to one of his shows and he was good so i missed the end of sleepy hallow and watch the comedian..the movie was too scary for me anyway.
i'm gonna do it! i'm going to set my alarmclock at 3 o'clock to listen to CFR..i usually change my mind when i hear the clock ringing...when it's dark and cold and everyone's asleep i just want to get back in bed and forget about it all.
is there any way i can listen the show later? is it somewhere on the internet...? that would be nice, you know..
sweet dreams everyone and (hopefully) see ya later
love, emma

Saw 'The Hunting...' last summer. As Sean and probably others have said, check out 'Outfoxed' if you haven't seen already.

There's a bunch of documentaries coming out these days. And the Metallcia documentary, that's good for anyone in the music biz to see.

If you are on a Mac; try this little free application. it's retro player. it plays your mp3s as analog, and it's so cute, like a little record player.

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audio/retroplayer.html

i've been listening to my music files on it. i like the sound better than itunes! as long as you turn down 'skip' to zero, in the prefs.

Posted by: ylais at November 27, 2004 04:13 PM

Learning guitar: I've been learning on an electric Fender. and I am fine. doing well. and i'm lefty. when i was a teen, i started on acoustic and hated it, because i wanted to hear electric, that's what i like. so that's more of a motivation to play, and learn, and keep playing for me,
i've got no complaints about the strings either. plus because i have listen to electric guitar music for so long, since i was in my mother's womb, i know what it should sound like, and what i want it to sound like.

throwing my experience in the pot there.

Posted by: ylais at November 27, 2004 04:22 PM

Electric and Acoustic sounds have their own characteristics,i love em both, when i started learning guitar it took me ages to get used to the guitar sound on it's own,ya know, with out a band to fill out the sound.

Deena, you're my girl!!! Hey everybody, Deena has a Panic Chat room during CFR....you can contact indie during the show by using AIM or AOL, their address is indie103@aol.com and if you click on Doheny link, you can join Karen and the gang in Doheny chat room...oh, and don't forget the number 1-877-4LA-1031...there's a 4 or 5 minute delay if you are listening on Internet...

ok, have I made everything clear, they are giving away tix for Dec 2nd show tonight, according to Billy's blog, which you guys should check out as well, he is wicked funny!!

jezebel(Where's Timothy)

Posted by: jezebel at November 27, 2004 05:42 PM

jezzi - a card has been sent.

debbie- I've been playing for a long time and I've given a few lesons in my time as well. Listen in your head, if you want to strum a few tunes around a campfire then grab the accoustic, if you want to rock out, get the electric its easier to play. when your learning on something you hear in your head you will stick with it longer.

now time to rock out!

"The Hunting of the President"...Thanks for the recommendation, Dave. I had the pleasure of meeting Bill Clinton twice, briefly, he is a very engaging person. I look forward to checking out the movie.

Posted by: Cori at November 27, 2004 11:07 PM

Dave, i have kind of a possible problem.

My girlfriend of 5 years and i recently parted ways.

I have her name tattooed on me much in the same style/place as your "trust no one" tattoo

So my question is:

How do you handle a situation where you have a woman's name tattooed on you that you're no longer with, especially when you start seeing someone else? Have you found that the next person you're with expected you to do the same for them?

I don't regret what i did in the slightest. She will always be my best friend, and i doubt i will ever be as close to someone as i am to her. So it is a nice reminder of our time together. But i don't think a girl wants to pull down her boyfriend's pants and see another girl's name staring back at her.

I figured if i had to ask anyone about this, it would DEFINITELY be you.

Posted by: Six7Six7 at November 28, 2004 12:08 AM

Actually, six7six, a girl's perspective might be nice too...I have recently begun a something with this guy...he has a girl's name tattooed on his arm, as well as still having her picture on his camera phone, he asked for my pic, and I gave him Scrappy's...I just think that it's great that he has the capacity to love and to have faith that he will love her forever, does that sound lame...it doesn't bother me,

no matter what ends up happening with this guy and me... I wouldn't want him to hide his love for her away, it's part of who he is...and I like who he is

ok, nevermind, going away now, thanks for talking to me tonight Dave...page 23 of the Godfather, check it out

Hey I was just looking at the website of an Australian band called Regurgitator (regurgitator.net) and noticed in thier timeline that they toured with the Red Hot Chili Peppers around Australia when you guys visited the country in May 1996.
As a recently converted Regurgitator fan and a Chili Peppers fan I just wanted to know some things.
What did you think of Regurgitator back then? And have you heard of their Band in the Bubble stunt(http://www.bandinabubble.com) and the new album recently released as a result of the Band in the Bubble thing?

Dave, you guys sounded like you were in a great mood last night (Are there TWO snakes this big?)...I found myself uncontrollably laughing right along with you! Did you hear that one promotional commercial for Indie's birthday where the tag line was "Sorry, Jesus"? So....utterly....wrong.....

But, wait, Indie? birthday? Does that mean that a Camp Freddy show for the rest of us is on the horizon?
It was wonderful to hear you giving away tix for one last night!!! You ARE the generous one!!!

jezebel(who wakes up this early on a Sunday?)

Posted by: jezebel at November 28, 2004 05:43 AM

Good Morning Dave...Morning Jezzi, my dear!

Well, I spent about 20 hours decorating my front and back yards for Christmas the last couple of days...it was beautiful, just perfect. Last night, I toasted the GFI...now I'm anxiously awaiting the electrician! :p I NEED MORE POWER!!!

Anyway...Six7Six7...I'm gonna throw in my 2 cents. I got my boyfriend's name tattooed just below my right hip when I was 15. Naturally, that romance did not last and there were a few people who saw it after that...never a complaint or expectation that they would be next...just curiosity, if anything.

That all changed with the person (1st person) I would eventually marry (big mistake...should have seen it coming) who just could not stand to see another man's name on my person. As a gift, to soothe his wild insecurity, I had it covered up.

I don't regret covering it up but, it should have given me a hint about Hubby #1's character...I don't think he should have been so bothered by it...we all have a past after all and it makes us who we are today.

Hope you all have a peaceful Sunday!

PS: Jezz...I'm searching for just the right card for your little people...I will be sending soon!

Can anyone give me a CF update...I missed it...again!

Posted by: Cori at November 28, 2004 06:41 AM

jezz, your 'dear sweet exchange student Emma' is searching for the right card as well...and i think i found the right one, so he will be on his way soon :D

cori, yeah a CF update would be nice. i'm still banging my head against a wall for sleeping through my alarmclock! how could i!! arrrrg (my pirate-yell)

anyway, i'm going to my sister now, we're gonna cook together at her place. have a great sunday everyone

Hi all!

Cori~You've started decorating for Christmas already?
Do you have coloured lights outside and stuff like that?

On a different note, I am seriously going to stop trying to figure men out. I've had it! Experience shows I only fall for a guy about once ever 2,5 years, anyway, so I'll be in for a treat the next couple of years. Wohoo? I've officially fallen out :) Maybe I should go eat all the cake and ice cream I've denied myself over the past month? hmmmm :)

Hope yer all well!

FRIDAY THE 13th...

Dave,
I read that Friday October 13th, 1307 was the date that the Pope and the King of France ordered the arrest, torture and burning of the Templar Knights. Hundreds were rounded up burned as heretics.

Another theory goes back to the Last Supper. 13 were present. JC and his 12 apostles. The myth says that at any gathering of 13 people, the first to rise will die before the end of the current year. This one sounds like some kind of goocher and I don't really believe in moons and goochers. (See Corey Feldman in Stand By Me.)

However, if you believe historians, Christ was died on a Friday the 13th. That sounds pretty unlucky to me.

There's more...

According to numerology, anyone with 13 letters in there name is said to have the "devil's luck." Saddam Hussein has 13 letters and furthermore was captured on Dec. 13th, 2003.

Weird.

Hope that helps.
IMABOUTADO.

PS. The Van Halen cut was great.

Posted by: Steve at November 28, 2004 09:38 AM
