All Up In Da Club

TheyknowwhoyouareI got home late last night after spending three days with my family. We had a great time. I took my little brothers, Gabe (10) and Henry (5), down to Indie 103.1 for a little guest DJ spot on Saturday. They did great. Today is kind of a rock cram session for TPC. We are rehearsing for the show tomorrow. The set list will be pretty similar to the one we played a couple months ago... about as long too. We are just trying to keep our chops together. As some of you know, I lost miserably on CPS. Damn it was hard to sit at the same table as Emily Proctor. I had fun though.

1. Very funny shot Dave, what illustrious 'rock' photographer' took it?? Who came up with the concept, must have ben you!

Carter Smith shot that. It was an actual moment.

2. Because its not about the music its about the product, the units, the hype. And the face of the product,an over groomed shirtless session guitarist? If you stick a hat on him and he'll be perfect in appealing to the target audience of 13-16 year old girls and celbrity worshipping ass kissers.

Awesome! Thanks, Molly! BTW: Send us your picture, if you are as hot as you sound, I am in love.

i've been away for the past 4 or 5 days, so haven't been able to keep up reading all of the posts. i'm curious to read the full rant of this "molly" character, whose critique dave so cleverly responded to. anyone know what date it's under so i can sort through and read it in full?

Hi Dave,

Very cute art today, the artists here are such a talented bunch!

Thanks for the info about the photographer, yes I know Carter Smiths work.

I just saw a brief commercial for some ABC show tonight, they showed Carmen. Are you guys on this show? It's hard keeping track of all the shows you've been on lately. lol

Music Station(((RockOnTV))) doesn't have this ABC show listed. Here's the info for the 6767 family; it's called "Life Of Luxury' , it's on 8PM EST.

Unfortunately I missed the E! show with you & Carmen. In the brief commerical clip I saw, you were talking about fashion 'Do's' & Dont's', you said you loved Carmen's 'Dont's'. I put E! on when the show was scheduled, there was something else on with Jackie Collins hosting, it was about 'Hollywood vixens'! Hope that wasn't it, because I turned it off!

Have a great show!

take care,
itanja

Dave? what? can you not even pee in private? grr...What I really wanted to know is who took 'Sweet Dreams' pic? or the Unicorn, for that matter?

Second, is molly referring to me, when she says 13-16, or does she think I am famous? Next week, on Celebrity Ass-Kissing!!!

ok, must stop, Soph, great artwork sweetie,

good morning Maria!!
am off to meet with professors today to see if I can postpone final because I want to go to key club? What do you think they'll say?, it's for CHARITY!!!!

Hi,

This is my first post here, I have been checking out the site for the last few days and think it's great. I am very excited to hear the new stuff & hope that you are able to make it to Boston. I have been a Jane's fan for years & just finished reading your book. I couldn't put it down I think I read it in less then a day. What guts to put yourself out there like that, I admire you for being able to say, "this is me, here is where I came from and this is were I am ready to go" so many people are not able to do that never mind someone who is so much in the public eye!!! Props to you and keep up the great work!!!

Much love,

by the way...does anyone think it's ridiculous that jessica simpson is playing daisy duke in teh "dukes of hazard" remake? ummm...isn't the character brunette? anyone think carmen would've been an infinitely better choice? i do!! lol...just thought i'd say that...she's also a much better actress than jessica "my IQ is 160" simpson (i still laugh my head off at the opening of Scary Movie)

DAVE,

I did a photoshoot on Friday in Toronto, my first ever!

Most of the pictures are TPC promotional, similar to the Agency Artwork.

I was wondering if you could contact me at so that I could send you the pictures, or if there is an email address which I could mail them to?

I would love for you guys to have them. After all, I wouldn't have done the shoot if it wasn't for TPC inspiration!

I was also wondering: have you guys ever done photos with any of the girls in the Agency artwork? If not, would you be willing to?

Hope you get back to me.

Hi Dave, Hi Sue, Hi Everyone,

Dave - have a great show!

Sue - I wanted to answer your question from yesterday, about how people "hear" music. Having come from a musical background myself (there are several musicians in the family, I can play the piano/keyboards, I used to play french horn in band, and am an avid dance enthusiast), I am somewhat qualified (though not as much as Dave!) to take a stab.

If I'm just chilling out listening to a song, I usually listen to it in its entirety, and try to just appreciate the entire piece of work. But if I choose to concentrate on a certain part, such as the bass line, the rhythm guitar, strings, bass drum, harmonies... I can hear it. This is especially true if a song has a noteworthy bass line, or rhythm, or, say, an amazing guitar solo. Some things can't be ignored.

When I dance (which I basically do for fun and exercise), that's when I really hear all of those different components, and dream up movements for each part. It's a very cool experience, because the music dictates how I move. The music is the driver, and I am the vehicle. I just let it happen.

On that note, I have to drag my booty outside to try out our new leaf blower (one of my least favorite sounds)and clean out our yard. Ugh!

Later!
-Denise

Hey Emily!

I am a Christmas person too! It is a legacy in my family. My father was a manager of an upscale department store when I was a kid and he was in charge of the Christmas shop (along with remodelling, etc . . . ) So twenty years later, I go to work at a different Upscale store, it seemed so natural. I decorated and performed customer service for 8 years and I loved it!!!!! There are days I still wish I worked there. No money in retail, but I loved doing the visual displays and I miss my customers!

*knowing wink to Madamoiselle Souf*

Hey, it's been over a year now since I saw you guys live and I'm *still* tingling from the experience. I know that was different times and different crimes with Jane's, and I was gutted to hear you'd split for what looks like the final time... but I'm nurturing my warm & fuzzy glow inside with the knowledge that you're still making fucking beautiful music & I'll selfishly cling onto the dream that I'll hear you again soon.

13-16 celebrity worshipping ass-kisser? I'm not a screaming teen and I sure as hell aint any glossy-eyed MTV bitch, but when the ass is that fine it's not fair to deny me a little nibble... *mwah!*

Ooo, got my extra copy of TNO and the Rexall single today! BONUS—didn’t realize that TNO was the promo! Sweet.
CD Binging again, bought both versions of Vertigo, the Natural Born Killers soundtrack (mmm LOVE Trent), and Pygmy Love Circus –The Power of Beef…

Hey Denise, thanks for answering. I always wonder about that, I’ve discussed it w/my kids before (singer and drummer), and I know how music affects each person is such a unique thing, but I know that once I learn a lot about something, I never see it in quite the same way again. Part of me is glad to be in the dark, to just immerse myself completely into the songs, but when people start talking about arrangements and dissecting guitar parts I am curious about that side of it.

Oh yeah, speaking of the Nat. Born Killers soundtrack, how many soundtracks do you think Jane’s Addiction has ended up on? I mean, even the movie Singles had Three Days in it, but it wasn’t on the soundtrack album. Was Stop in The Incredibles? I heard it was, but it’s not on the soundtrack. That song has been EVERYWHERE lately!

Have a good day, all! And to all you lucky souls going to TPC tomorrow, wish I was there, have a great time!

Just thought I'd share some random things. I am so done sharing a bill with shitty bands that think they are playing Madison Square Garden. How much time do you need to set up your crappy Guitar Center gear? And after playing an already too long set ask to play one last song so we can watch them destroy "So Young" by Suede.I might have imploded in another moments time.My band goes on an hour late because of a local NJ cheese band with a brit complex. Wake up!!!!! You're from Jersey!!!!!!!! *Phew* I"m done. xoxo

Must Have albums (won't include any Jane's or Dave stuff here assuming you already have it.)

Only Five Albums?!? Cannot even do it. Here's a *handful* of my must-haves, the ones that are always on my MP3 player, no matter what else rotates in or out.

I've limited it to one album by each artist, but in all honesty every one of these artists has their full discography taking up disc space on the Dell Digital Jukebox...

Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing
Jethro Tull - Stormwatch
David Sylvian - Gone to Earth
Deftones - White Pony
Dead Can Dance - The Serpent's Egg
Brad - Shame
Bob Mould - Workbook
Sisters of Mercy - Floodland
Bauhaus - Burning from the Inside
The Cure - Disentigration
The Bloodhound Gang - Hooray for Boobies
Tad- 8 way Santa
Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park
Rush - Permanent Waves
Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R
Peter Murphy - Love Hysteria
Peter Gabriel - Security
Ministry - The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste
KMFDM - Symbols
Everclear - Sparkle and Fade

My comp HD currently clocks in at around 90 gigs of MP3s, ALL ripped from my own CDs in an effort to minimize the household clutter. Most purchased before BC (Before Children) and going thorugh insane buying binges while working at Disney and getting paid idiotic money.

"What shall we use to fill the empty spaces?"

Lot's of CDs and toys, that's what. Disney money is hazard pay. You get a lot of money and great benefits while they destroy your soul and very spirit. But... that's another story.

With the addition of my wife's CDs when we got married... the content is a schizo collection to be sure...

hey, been a long time since my last post... i love this site and i stay true to my first statement some months ago right here; saying that dave was one of the most sensitive sounding rock guitarrists ever...
i kinda miss the old vibe of the site, back when all of us were RAGING with anticipation to hear the final result of shoot... so i guess i might give a shot at the new loops... we all should!

so here's my 5 musthave cds

pink floyd - the dark side of the moon
radiohead - kid a
pearl jam - ten
ledzep - how the west was won
The Panic Channel - SelfTitled!!!!!!

actually it's too tough to narrow it down to just 5... why not make it 50??

take care,
Felipe

Hi Dave and everyone else here!

This is my first post! I love this site and think it's amazing how Dave keeps us updated on a day to day basis! Now, that's staying true to your fans!!!!!

So, my question is....how do we 'really' know that Dave is the one answering all of these questions? I'm not trying to be a downer, but he must be so busy! I can't imagine him having time everyday to write to us himself! Dave, if you do...you are truly more amazing than I already think you are!!!!!!!

Hey all

Not posted in eons but have been checking in every day. Just want to say enjoy the Dragonfly show to those of you who can make it. I'm sure you'll have a blast.

Molly, do you not think your intrests would be better served by investing your time and energy into supporting something you do believe in rather than wasting it on something you so obviously do not? I ask out of genuine curiosity, what pleasure do you derive from it? You are, of course, entitled to your opinions which are no less or more important than those of anyone else who should care to visit this site. I do, however feel that it's a pity that you choose to expend your your energy and passion spilling bile on those you despise instead of giving support to those you love.

Peace out

That is an almost impossible to question to answer because there are so many.
I could easily list about 50 or 60 but I can't Here are my top 5 in random order:
LEGEND by Bob Marley
RUBBER SOUL by The Beatles
EXILE ON MAIN STREET by The Rolling Stones
BACK IN BLACK by AC/DC
DARK SIDE OF THE MOON & THE WALL by Pink Floyd

Obviously, I am not including great albums by THE WHO, METALLICA, REM, RADIOHEAD, LED ZEPPELIN, JOHNNY CASH, THE RAMONES, JAY-Z, RUN DMC, EMINEM, CREAM, MARVIN GAYE, STEVIE WONDER, CCR, GUNS N' ROSES, JIMI HENDRIX, etc....

Emily!!!! Thanks for the compliment, sweetie!
I personally think that question needs to be reworded, into what 5 cds would you save from burning structure, or what 5 cds would you like to have, cause you know, we are so very different, at least I know I am

ok, my fav five
1. A Charlie Brown Christmas..The Vince Guaraldi (sp)Trio---what's not to love

2. Alison Krauss and Union Station..LIVE 2 CD set

3. U2--The best of 1984-1994?

4. Joni Mitchell- Hits

5. Sade--Lover's Rock

Dave, just saw Carmen's Star Style, I love your damn superbowl shirt! thats f*ucking great! Any idea where I can pick that up?

Jaclyn, in my last band we figured out how to stop the other bands from taking our time. We would get to a gig, with 4 other bands, and half the crowd would be there to see us. The other bands would be arguing over who would go last, and we would say "Hey, we'll go first" Then we would go out and blow the stage up, and the place would empty after that. After a few months we had a rep. No one wanted to follow us, and club owners would tell the other bands we had to go last and they better not go over! just a thought, good luck

Tammi there are things that have been mentioned on here and Dave has brought them up on the radio or at the signings and other apperances. look back through the archives and watch for sean's post about a book signing. it's an amazing story. yes he's amazing.

Damn, sorry to double post, I forgot about my Top 5 albums.

1) The Doors - The Doors
2) Portishead - Portishead
3) Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking
4) Silverchair - Neon Ballroom
5) Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals

I should note, these are not necessarily my all time favorite albums, since there are dozens more I hold in equally high regard. But for the sake of a "Top 5" list, these are the ones currently tickling my fancy. My all time favorite albums list has about 30 more tacked onto that, and they can be in any random order as each of them carry different feelings/meanings with them.

Tammy, to add to what Shane said from personal I can tell you that he does write and read most of the stuff. After the first TPC show, I introduced myself with my screen name and he said something like “yeah, you’re the one that purchased the camera for the show. I had just posted that info a few hours before the show. For some reason it caught me off guard that he read it. So again to answer your question, it is him. Plus if you read his book you can tell how much of a computer geek he is (I mean that in a nice way, I’m an aspiring computer geek).

By the way I can’t wait for tomorrow. I just learned how to use the video feature of my not so handy dandy camera. I’ll try to capture one of the songs and post it for everyone that can’t catch the show. I don’t have tons of memory so I’ll just record one.

Everyone,
I think that the most "poular" songs on the radio are not the best songs. That's why I don't listen to the radio anymore.
Here is another little list from me. Here are 10 of my favorite under-rated songs. They are not the most "popular" hits, but I love them just as much.

JACKASS by Beck.
ROCK N ROLL DAMNATION by AC/DC
LOUNGE ACT by Nirvana
RAMBLE ON by Led Zeppelin
PEACE FROG by The Doors
MASCARA by Deftones
TRASH by Korn
GOD SAYS NO by Monster Magnet
FOLLOW by Sevendust
BIG BANG BABY by Stone Temple Pilots

1. Jane's Addiction-Ritual de lo Habitual
2. Radiohead-OK computer
3. Soundgarden-Superunknown
4. Nirvana- Nevermind or In utero (depending on mood)
5. Sarah McLachlan- Fumbling Towards Ecstacy

those are just my top five...and i'm soooo not including all the other great albums by those artists and other great artists...peace with everyone

Hi everyone.... I can breathe a sigh of relief now that this day is almost over. Whoosh. What a crazy day.

5 WITHOUT, LIVING WOULD BE UNFATHOMABLE (or just... different):
Kate Bush—Hounds of Love
Tori Amos—Little Earthquakes
The Cure—Disintegration
Liz Phair—Exile in Guyville
Def Leppard—Pyromania (hee... I have the tape in my car. Had it since 1985. It fell in a river once, and it's still alive. This album lives forever.)

My top 5 albums would be a bit tricky. But off the top of my head this is what I came up with.

Nirvana- Nevermind
Ramones- Ramones
Sex Pistols-Never Mind the Bullocks
Janes Addiction- Nothings Shocking
The Doors- Best of

Hello there, not sure how you have time to read all these. Anyway, I kinda met you in Las Vegas at Mr. Lucky's at the Hard Rock. I am a waitress there. I had to tell you and Courtney Love to stop smoking, my bad.

Anway, you are even more gorgeous in person.

Have a wonderful week

Dave,
I really think you guys need to consider playing with Velvet Revolver in Orlando, Fl on Dec. 8th. Dont forget about Fl! I figured it was worth a try.

Quiet Riot! Dio! Dokken!

RAAAWWWWWWKKKKK.

"Hello my name is Rantz, and I'm a recovering butt-rocker"

In the ages of spandex glory, when men wore Aqua Net like a badge of power and flipping a bass over your shoulder was seen as an 'edgy' thing to do, I was a desperate metal wanna-be. I seriously don't think there was one metal band from that era that I didn't make the 90=mile trek to Spokane WA. to see them live. I thank art school, bauhaus, the cure, skinny puppy and seeing Jane's at Scream for saving me from a mullet-filled life.

I stop myself short of posting pics of this horrific time.

Posted by: Rantz at November 15, 2004 10:44 PM

butt-rocker?eeeeewwww, there's a mental image I can live without, I used to call those guys, men with mousse, I was telling Maria at Rainbow last night, that the last time I was there, was the first and only time I had escargot, and it was still on the menu...everything tastes great when you are in love...we went to roxy next back then in eighty something, and all I remember is men with mousse, and making out in public, good times, good times

jezebel(I have a picture with ME with a mullet, looked like I had mousse AND squirrel to borrow line from Will and Grace)

The best thing about Mondays? West Wing marathon, baby, the cure for what ails me....

Yeah the today's artwork is way cool!!!

To the Panic Channel and the people going to the show: Have a rockin' night!!! I'll be thinking of you.
I won't ask for a vid of that show again.......(still disappointed that there was not more of the last one).

Well a bit criticm is always good and keeps things in perspective but not in that "Molly" kind of way...my two cents.

have a good day,
love,

Hello Dave, hello all...I hope everyone is doing good!!Hey Dave, have you ever thought of doing 20 questions on metalsludge.com??

Posted by: chaos at November 15, 2004 11:08 PM

The 'butt-rock' label is one that we tended to use in the NW circa mid 90s to describe the 80s band because of the tendancy in videos for guys to shake their spandex-clad asses at the camera lense ala' David Lee Roth.

not because of... well, other reasons.
